“Yes,” said Martha with a smile, “The spring’s coming.”

She ran round and round the fountain ten times and soon she started to feel better. Ben Weatherstaff was in the vegetable garden. He didn’t look angry that day so she went to speak to him.
“The spring’s coming,” he said to her.
“Can you see those green points in the earth?” Mary looked.
“What are they?” she asked.
“They’re spring flowers.” Then the robin appeared and sat on the ground near them.
“Is spring coming in the secret garden, too?” Mary asked Ben, “Or are all the flowers dead?”
“Ask the robin.” said Ben Weather staff.
“He’s the only one who knows.” And he went back to work.
The robin was hopping around on the ground. Mary was watching him when she saw something in the earth. She picked it up. It was an old key.

①We all love our phones, but using them too much can cause problems. Did you know most people check their phones over 50 times a day? Many teens feel nervous when they don’t have their phones nearby. Even worse, phones sometimes make us miss what’s happening right around us. Here’s how to take control without giving up your phone completely.
②A good way to use your phone less is to pick a special time each day. Choose 30 minutes after school just for phone use. During this time, really focus on what you’re doing — watch videos, message friends, or play games. But when time’s up, put your phone away.
③Next, fight those noisy dings and buzzes. Turn off all notifications (通知) except for important ones. Imagine this: Your phone stays quiet during homework hours, but still rings if your mom needs you. This simple change reduces the brain’s ideas of “check it now”. Without these, you’ll feel less pulled to check your phone every minute.
④Create places where phones aren’t allowed. Keep your phone out of these three places: the dinner table — talk to family instead, your bed — charge (充电) it in the kitchen overnight, and study areas. Try the “Doorway Method”: leave your phone by the front door when you get home, and only check it there when truly needed. If reaching for your phone requires walking downstairs, you’ll think twice.
⑤Scientists found that about 1/3 of phone time is just habit, not something we truly enjoy. That’s why the methods mentioned above. By making such small changes, you can save over 2 hours daily! Use that extra time to read, play outside, or try a new hobby.
⑥Remember what an old Greek teacher once said, “Real freedom comes from controlling yourself.” Phones are tools, not bosses. Start small: Try one tip this week. Your phone will still be there, but you’ll be in charge.
1. What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us?
A. Turning off notifications. B. Using the doorway trick.
C. Setting special phone time. D. Creating phone-free places.
2. What is the main benefit of the “Doorway Method”?
A. Charging your phone faster. B. Avoiding leaving your phone at the door.
C. Remembering where your phone is. D. Reducing the times you check your phone.
3. Why does the article mention the Greek teacher’s words?
A. To advise people to plan time freely.
B. To encourage students to try a new hobby.
C. To explain the importance of managing oneself well.
D. To compare ancient wisdom and modern technology.
4. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A. ①/②③④/⑤/⑥ B. ①/②/③④⑤/⑥
C. ①/②③④⑤⑥ D. ①/②③④⑤/⑥

I went to 221B Baker Street to find my friend Mr. Sherlock Holmes. When I arrived, I saw that he was talking with a stout (矮胖) gentleman with fiery (火焰般的) red hair. “Mr. Wilson here was explaining the thing about an unusual part-time job. Mr. Wilson, this is Doctor Watson. He has been my helper and friend for years.” I nodded and took a seat near Holmes.
This stout man pulled from his pocket a dirty newspaper. As he did this, I took the chance to look at the men carefully.
To my eye, Mr. Wilson seemed quite common. He was overweight, and from his suit I could guess he might be a salesman. Other than his fiery red hair, I could find nothing special. Holmes, however, said, “It is easy to know that you have done a lot of writing, and at some time been to China.”
Mr. Wilson looked at Holmes surprisedly and said, “How did you know? It is true!”
“I knew from your hands. Your right hand is a little bit larger than your left.”
“And how about China? That was so many years ago.” asked Mr. Wilson. “Well, you have a Chinese coin hanging from your watch chain,” answered Holmes.
“Quite so!” Mr. Wilson was amazed. “I believe you were about to show us a newspaper advertisement.” said Holmes. “Yes! Here it is.” Below was what Holmes and I read:
To all red–headed men:
Mr. Hopkins has left his money to help all red-headed men. Members can get a salary (薪水) of 4 pounds a week. All red-headed men 20 years old or older are able to join. Apply in person on Monday at 11:00 to Duncan Ross at the League Office.
I read it again and wondered, “What does it mean?”
Mr. Wilson talked about his fantastic part-time job. He has got the job not because of any skill or ability, but only because he had red hair. He had worked there for 8 weeks and received a handsome salary of 4 pounds per week. But one morning he went to the work only to find his office closed and his job gone. He had to come to Mr. Holmes looking for answers.
–– Taken from The Red-headed League

六、阅读与表达。
“What should I we call you?” I asked.
“My name is Captain Nemo,” he told us. “The name of my ship is Nautilus.”
Captain Nemo showed me the library, the art gallery and the engine room.
“It’s a wonderful ship!” I exclaimed.
“I love it as if it were my child,” he replied.
“It must have cost a fortune!”
“Millions of dollars,” he replied. “However, I have billions!”
Ned Land and Conseil were as amazed at the ship as I was, but Ned was still interested in trying to find a way to escape. I told him that he should stop thinking about it for the moment.
A few days later, Captain Nemo invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island under the sea. When returned to the Nautilus, we were tired but amazed by what we had seen during the trip. It was an amazing experience.
When we entered the Torres Strait, the Nautilus hit a reef and stopped. We had to wait for the high tide to lift the Nautilus off the reef. We three were allowed to use Captain Nemo’s dinghy to go onto the island. We were excited. When we returned to the island the next day, we were attacked by savages. About one hundred savages followed us and tried to come into the ship. Captain Nemo didn’t worry about them. When they put their hands on the rail, they all fell back and ran away. Captain Nemo had put electricity into the rail. Anybody who touched it would receive an electric shock.
One day, Captain Nemo asked me to follow him to another room and help one of his men. A man lay on a bed with a very bad head wound. I looked at it. “What happened?” Captain Nemo answered, “Something broke in the engine. A heavy piece of metal hit his head.” “He is going to die soon,” I said. “Nothing can save him.” Tears filled Captain Nemo’s eyes, and he asked me to leave.
We sailed through a sea of milk and huge armies of shell sand, sometimes large crowds of sharks. I realized that I did not really want to escape.

2. What does the underlined “it” refer to?

1. 词义猜测题。根据第6、7段“‘It must have cost a fortune!’‘Millions of dollars,’ he replied.(‘这一定花了一大笔钱!’‘几百万美元’他回答道。)”可知,此处划线部分fortune指一大笔钱。故填A large amount of money. / (A lot of ) Money. / Much money.
2. 代词指代题。根据第8段“Ned Land and Conseil were as amazed at the ship as I was, but Ned was still interested in trying to find a way to escape. I told him that he should stop thinking about it for the moment.(奈德·兰和康塞尔和我一样对这艘船感到惊讶,但奈德仍然有兴趣设法逃跑。我告诉他,他现在应该停止想这件事。)”可知,Ned一直想要逃跑,我告诉他现在不是想这个的时候,此处it指代上文提到的“trying to find a way to escape”。故填To escape. / (Trying) to find a way to escape.
3. 细节理解题。根据第10段“When they put their hands on the rail, they all fell back and ran away. Captain Nemo had put electricity into the rail. Anybody who touched it would receive an electric shock.(当他们把手放在栏杆上时,他们都往后退了,跑开了。尼摩船长已经给铁轨通了电。任何触碰它的人都会受到电击。)”可知,当他们把手放在栏杆上时他们都向后倒了然后逃跑了,因为Nemo船长给铁轨通了电,任何触碰它的人都会受到电击。故填 (Because) Captain Nemo had put electricity into the rail. / Because they received an electric shock.
4. 细节理解题。根据第9段“A few days later, Captain Nemo invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island under the sea.(几天后,Nemo船长邀请我和我的朋友一起去海底的克雷斯波岛森林打猎。)和第10段“We three were allowed to use Captain Nemo’s dinghy to go onto the island.(我们三个被允许使用Nemo船长的小艇上岛。)及最后一段“We sailed through a sea of milk and huge armies of shell sand, sometimes large crowds of sharks. I realized that I did not really want to escape.(我们驶过一片牛奶的海洋和大量的贝壳沙,有时还有一大群鲨鱼。我意识到我并不是真的想逃跑。)”可知,作者一共离开Nautilus三次。故填Three (times).
5. 推理判断题。题目问:根据文章,你对Nemo船长有什么看法?根据第10段“About one hundred savages followed us and tried to come into the ship. Captain Nemo didn’t worry about them. When they put their hands on the rail, they all fell back and ran away. Captain Nemo had put electricity into the rail. Anybody who touched it would receive an electric shock.(大约有一百名野蛮人跟着我们,试图上船。尼摩船长并不担心他们。当他们把手放在栏杆上时,他们都往后退了,跑开了。尼摩船长已经给铁轨通了电。任何触碰它的人都会受到电击。)”可知他富有、聪明,关心他的人。故填He was rich, clever and cared for his men.
