As one of the latest countries to welcome Chinese language lecturers, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to open Chinese language courses in 200 public primary and secondary schools; experienced Chinese teachers are eagerly needed. Other Chinese courses opening across world show the increasing demand for Chinese-speaking talent. Russia included Mandarin (普通话) as an elective foreign language in the country’s college entrance exam. Following English, German, French, and Spanish, Mandarin has become the fifth elective test item for the exam, according to Sergey Kravtsov, Deputy Minister of Russia’s Ministry of Education and Science. Spain, for example, has more than 40,000 people learning Chinese; last year some 8,000 took the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) exam, ranking first among the member states of the European Union, according to Xinhua News Agency. In the US, learning Chinese has been thriving for a number of years and is now a popular choice for American children, especially those who born in elite (精英) families. The children are exposed to the language at an early age as their parents believe mastering Chinese will help them build successful international careers. 28. What makes Chinese language learning so hot now? A. China has the highest international position. B. Many countries depend on China to develop. C. Many countries want to adopt China’s culture. D. China has more international influence globally. 29. What can we know about Chinese learning in Europe? A. Chinese is always an elective foreign language in Russia. B. Stopping suddenly. D. Changing all the time. 31. How many foreign countries are mentioned in the passage? A. 3 B. 4 C. 8 D. 9 D When people think about improving their physical fitness, they often neglect (忽视) balance. Good balance is a necessary part of being physically fit and key to living a long life, according to a research. It’s important for everyone, no matter your age. Older adults are most affected by poor balance. Falls(跌倒) are the leading cause of injury and death for those 65 and older, with nearly 30% in this age group reporting at least one fall in 2018, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But younger adults frequently fall down, too. Forty-eight percent of young adults reported falling at least once during one 16-week study. The falls most commonly happened during sports activities, with women in the study reporting more falls and fall-related injuries than men. Falls within the previous two years were reported by 18% of young adults (ages 20 to 45) in another study published in the journal BMC Public Health. That figure (数据) compared with 21% of middle-aged adults (46 to 65) reporting falls and 35% of those over 65. While falls among young adults were often connected with sports, falls by the middle-aged group were typically related to health problems and physical changes. Many factors (因素) can affect your balance outside of age, such as vision changes, brain injuries, overweight and a general lack of physical fitness. Even if you have no risk factors, simply neglecting to work regularly on your balance will result in increased instability (不稳定性). “Our body is conditioned to lose what we don’t regularly use and practice, and balance is no different,” said a researcher. 32. What role does a good balance play in our lives? A. It helps us live a healthy and long life. B. It enables us to build a perfect shape. C. It protects us from getting seriously sick. D. It has the power to make us look young. 33. How does the author show the research results? A. By having a discussion. B. By giving a list of figures. C. By raising questions. D. By following the time order. 34. In which situation are young adults likely to fall down? A. When a health problem comes up. B. When working regularly. C. When a physical change appears. D. When joining in a sport. 35. What can we learn from the last paragraph? A. We are naturally born with balance. B. We should manage our body properly. C. Our body is used to working in its own way. D. We’ll lose our balance if we don’t practise it often. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Easy Ways to Keep Your Brain Sharp(敏捷的) Everyone is forgetful, but as we age, we start to feel like our brains are slowing down a bit- -and that can be a very annoying thing. ___36___Read on for some techniques(技巧,方法)worth trying. ___37___ People who regularly made plans and looked forward to upcoming events had a 50 percent reduced chance of Alzheimer’s disease (早老性痴呆症),according to a recent study. ___38___Something as simple as setting a goal to have a weekly coffee date with a friend will do. It’s about our son Jimmy. 2.B 【原文】M: What time is your flight today? W: Well, it was supposed to leave at 2:15 p.m., but the airline just called and told me it was delayed until 7:15 p.m. At least this way, I can take my time and have lunch at home. 3.A 【原文】W: You like reading a lot, don’t you? M: Yeah, I find it very relaxing. The one I’m reading now is really exciting. W: It’s that good, huh? M: Oh, yeah. Ever since I started reading it, I haven’t been able to put it down. 4.B 【原文】W: I’m sorry to call so early, but I wanted to let you know I’ve come down with something and won’t be able to come into work today. I should be fine by tomorrow afternoon. M: No problem. We’re having an office party tomorrow night, so I hope you’re well enough to come! 5.A 【原文】W: Bradley, this coffee tastes a little strange. It’s time for us to get back to natural flavors, don’t you think? 6.A 7.C 【原文】W: I’m here to pick up the flowers for Anna. M: I’m sorry, but those won’t be ready for another two hours. W: She’s getting married in two hours! I need time to bring them back so that I can set them up before the guests come. M: We haven’t even started putting them together yet. We told you on the phone they’d be ready by noon. It’s only 10:00. W: Is there another flower company that can deliver them in the next thirty minutes? M: I doubt it. Flower companies don’t normally do rush orders. 8.A 9.B 【原文】W: It’s nice and quiet out here in the countryside. M: My grandpa used to take me fishing here when I was five. W: My parents never took me anywhere when I was little. I guess we went to Los Angeles to visit my aunt and uncle a few times when I was in sixth and seventh grade. But other than that, we just stayed at home. M: It’s important to slow down and breathe some fresh air once in a while. W: Absolutely. So, what’s the plan for the rest of the day? M: Well, you could study art history. That was my wife’s major, you know. W: Really? What did you major in? M: Oh, I always wanted to be a businessman, so that’s what I did in college. It’s not for everyone, but I liked it. I wish I had taken some other classes, though. If you have a chance to learn about a bunch of different things and then make a decision, I think that would be your best bet. W: That’s good advice, Mr. Sanders. Thanks! M: My pleasure. If you want to talk more, come next door anytime you want. W: I sure will. Thank you! 13.C 14.C 15.A 16.B 【原文】M: OK, your bill comes to thirty-six dollars. W: Well, I never carry cash on me anymore. But if you use a credit card, I think they charge you a small fee. M: That’s cool. I never use my credit card, anyway. So, what can I do with the money once it’s there? Can I use Venmo at stores? W: You still can’t use it at most restaurants and big chain stores, but a lot of smaller shops accept it. It’s getting more popular all the time. M: All right, how can I sign up for Venmo?
