Have you heard of Grandparents’ Day? It is a day for grandparents and children to show how much they love each other. To celebrate it, why don’t you interview a grandparent about their childhood (童年)? Speaking to grandparents is a good way to learn more about them, as well as about the past. Here are some tips on how to interview a grandparent.
Decide how you’ll do it.
Set up a time to do the interview when you can be relaxed. It’s best to talk face to face but if you can’t, a phone call or video chat will do. Try to record the conversation. People often talk faster than you can write, so you might miss something. Also when you listen back to the recording you might have more questions to ask later. Can you video it or use a voice recorder?
Get the best out of it
Make sure you are prepared and have all your questions in front of you. You might have your own questions. Ask a parent if they know anything interesting to talk about. During your interview, listen carefully. If you think of an extra question while they are talking, note it down so you can ask it when there is a natural break in the conversation.
Create a record to keep
You can share the video of your interview with the family, or turn it into a memory book. Write out the questions and answers, or use what you learned to write a story of your grandparent’s childhood or a collection of fun facts. Ask them if they have any photos you could use .You could also add drawings of your own.

Trying new things can be exciting, but it can also be a little scary. To solve the problems, it’s good to first find out why. 26 .
One reason why new things are scary is that we don’t know much about them. Our minds like things we know because they make us feel safe. 27 . We feel scared of being not successful. The third reason is that we worry about what others will think if we try something new and don’t do it well. We might think, “What if I make a mistake in front of my friends?” But you know what? 28 .
So how can we overcome (克服) the fear of trying new things? First, start small. For example, if you’re afraid of public speaking, don’t try to speak in front of lots of people in the very beginning. It’s better to practise speaking in front of fewer people. Second, accept the fear. 29 . Third, don’t care too much about the results. We don’t always get things right for the first time, but mistakes make us learn and grow. Fourth, do something we can control. When we’re scared, we often come up with “what if (要是……会怎么样呢)” questions. Worrying about these things isn’t useful, and we should try to do something we can control. 30 .

请认真阅读下面短文,用英语回答短文后的问题,并将答案写在答题卡标有题号的横线上。
Along with firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce and vinegar, tea is considered one of the seven necessities for life in China. Now, it has also won global recognition (全球认可) as a shared cultural treasure of mankind.
On November 29, 2022, Chinese traditional tea processing techniques (制作技艺) and their related (相关的) social practices were added to the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list. Since ancient times, Chinese people have been planting, picking, making and drinking tea.
More importantly, China’s tea culture has nurtured (培养) social practices. It is a Chinese traditional custom (习俗) that a host should welcome visiting guests with boiled tea. A poem by Song poet Du Lei reads: I offer tea, not wine, to a guest on a cold night. When water boils on the stove, fire burns with flame bright. (寒夜客来茶当酒,竹炉汤沸火初红。)
Boiling tea is one of the oldest Chinese tea brewing methods (煮沏法), dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618—907). Tea leaves were boiled for a long time and sometimes they were cooked together with different kinds of herbs (草药) and fruits. During this process, people could enjoy a quiet time. Later in the Ming Dynasty (1368—1644), a faster and more convenient method became more popular—steeping (冲泡).
However, the old method is now making a comeback among Chinese young people. On the app Xiaohongshu, or Little Red Book, there are over 40, 000 posts on the topic of “stove-boiled” tea (围炉煮茶). They lightly roast (烤) tea leaves before boiling them in a teapot on a charcoal-filled (装满木炭的) stove. People sit around the stove in a natural setting and have snacks with their hot tea. Some also wear traditional hanfu as if it could take them back to those ancient times.
Through “stove-boiled” tea, people can taste a slower, pastoral-like (田园式的) life and find their inner peace. As is written in one Xiaohongshu post, “it is very relaxing to drink hot tea, feel the fall breeze (微风), and chat with best friends.”
54.When did steep tea become more popular?
55.What does the writer want to tell us through Du Lei’s poem?
56.Would you like to try “stove-boiled” tea? Why?
【答案】54.In the Ming Dynasty. 55.The writer wants to tell us that it is a custom to welcome friends with tea. 56.Yes. Because “stove-boiled” tea can make me taste a slower, pastoral-like life/No. Because I am not interested in tea.

【例文】
My amazing trip
I had an unforgettable trip to the Tianchi of Changbai Mountain. I have experienced many firsts, but the most unforgettable one is that I saw the Tianchi of Changbai Mountain for the first time.
Last July, my family and I took a tour to Changbai Mountain. We climbed up from the west slope, where the scenery basically remains the most primitive state. After climbing 1440 steps, we finally reached the top of the mountain. Although we were very tired, the temperature on the top of the mountain was very suitable, making us feel extremely comfortable. What’s more, we were lucky enough to see the Tianchi, which is like a huge mirror inlaid among the peaks. It’s said that 70% of the people who came to Changbai Mountain for the first time can’t see the Tianchi because the weather on the top of the mountain is unpredictable. And the first time I came to Changbai Mountain, I saw Tianchi of Changbai Mountain, which is really amazing.
Although we were tired, we were happy.

Things prepared: a potato with some sprouts(芽), a flower pot with soil(土壤), a camera

“You pretty, he ugly. You swan, he frog!” Foreign people just love this funny English sentence going around the Chinese Internet. It all started when a foreign girl named Kris posted a sad photo online. It looked like her boyfriend made her cry. Some nice Chinese people tried to cheer her up. They asked her to find someone better. Some made funny Chinglish to make her feel happy, such as “You swan, he frog.”

It’s common to feel scared when we are trying something new. Lots of people feel that way!
A.Here are some reasons.
B.It’s normal to feel afraid of trying new things.
C.Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and it’s okay!
D.Second, try your best to solve the problems.
E.Ask your parents to help with your problems.

Why?

14.According to paragraph 1, what question can we ask a grandparent?
A.Do you want to live with your children? B.When did you finish your school?
C.Where did you go on holiday as a child? D.What was your first job?
15.How can we interview?
① talk face to face ② make a phone call ③ send an e-mail ④video chat
A.①②③ B.②③④ C.①③④ D.①②④
16.What does “it” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.The extra question. B.The answer.

This became a hit with foreigners. Many found it cool. They shared it a lot online and made funny pictures with it.
“I need Chinese friends in my life who call the people that have hurt me frogs,”said a foreign internet user, showing her love for the expression. Some of them wanted to know why Chinese people use “swan” and “frog” to describe this couple. After looking into it, they learned that it came from the famous old Chinese story of the beautiful swan and the ugly toad, and got interested in the Chinese stories behind Chinglish.
In the past, people often corrected those who spoke Chinglish because it was full of grammar mistakes. However, with globalization (全球化), people from different countries can now share their ideas more often. Different styles of speaking English are becoming common and even accepted. English with local touches can also be popular. For example, the well-known “add oil” has now appeared in the Oxford dictionary and people use it widely. The phrase shows Chinese culture.

It’s common to feel scared when we are trying something new. Lots of people feel that way!
A.Here are some reasons.
B.It’s normal to feel afraid of trying new things.
C.Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and it’s okay!
D.Second, try your best to solve the problems.
E.Ask your parents to help with your problems.

What is the reason for pain? Pain hurts us, but could it be good for us? Is pain in fact helpful? Pain is the
body’s way to tell us that something is wrong so that we stop what we are doing to protect the body. For example,
if you break your leg, pain stops you from walking on it. If you didn’t feel any pain, you would continue walking
around and you could hurt your leg more. But why does it continue to hurt even after you have stopped walking on
your hurt leg? That is because your body needs you to rest in order to have the energy to mend the broken bone.
But how does pain work? We have special cells in our skin, our eyes, and inside our bodies, too. When
something goes wrong, these cells send messages to the brain. The brain then makes us feel pain so we will stop
doing whatever is causing the pain. Put your hand on a hot pan, and your hand’s skin cells tell your muscles and
your brain. Your muscles are able to quickly move your hand away from the heat. At the same time, your brain

In the past, making dictionaries was different from today. Without computers, dictionary makers had to do
everything by hand, which took many years of hard work.
First, teams of researchers read thousands of books, newspapers, and letters. As they read, they copied
important information on cards: interesting words, common words—both in their daily uses and unusual uses, the
words and the uses of each word were collected. For big dictionaries like the Oxford English Dictionary, they
collected over 5 million such cards! As the cards were collected, they were put in alphabetical order (A-Z).
________.
Then, dictionary makers would study all the cards for one word to understand its different meanings. For
example, they might find that “mouse” could mean an animal or a computer device. Finally, they wrote the
definitions (定义), following the hard-and-fast rule: each definition must come from an example on a certain card
in front of him.
The most important rule was that dictionary makers never invented meanings. They only wrote definitions
based on how people actually used words in real life. They are the historians (历史学家 ) not the law makers.
Sometimes, this research took decades—the first Oxford English Dictionary needed 70 years to finish!
Nowadays, we can use online dictionaries. When choosing our words in speaking or writing, we cannot be
controlled by it, because the new society, new inventions, and new feelings are always pushing us to give new uses
to old words.
22.Which shows the correct steps of how dictionaries were made in the past?
A.①③④② B.①②④③ C.③④②① D.③①④②
23.What can we learn from the passage about dictionary writing in the past?
A.It should be done by historians. B.It was a task of inventing and recording.
C.It was long-time hard work. D.It had to use the law-making rules.
24.Which sentence is the best for “________” in Paragraph 2?
A.When this was done, there would be several hundred cards for each single word.
B.There are many types of cards, such as paper-based cards and e-cards.
C.However, if dictionary writers use them in a wrong way, the cards can’t help them.
D.Cards as tools can help the learners to develop their language skills.
25.What does the writer advise us to do when we choose words in communication?
A.Be open to the new uses of words. B.Follow the dictionary only.
C.Use online dictionaries instead. D.Try to create new words.

Mountains are usually not nice places for people to live in. This is mainly because the weather in the
mountain s is not as good as that in low areas. 26 Few people live in the mountains that are over 2,500
meters high, because it’s difficult for people to breathe. If a mountain is more than 8,000 meters high, for example,
Qomolangma, there’s not enough air for people. This is known as one of the most dangerous areas.
However, mountains are important to people. Most water in the rivers is from the snow and rain water of
the mountains. 27 Mountains are also rich in minerals (矿产). 28 Many people also go to
mountains to spend their holidays during the hot summer, because it’s much cooler there.
Mountain climbing has a history of over 150 years. 29 However, only a few people reached the
tops of the highest mountains at that time. 30 Mountain climbing has become a popular sport in the
world.
A.The sport first became popular in England.
B.Lots of people in the world depend on mountains to get drinking water.
C.The higher a mountain is, the less air there will be.
D.So mountain tourism is developing very slowly.
E.Now more and more people try to climb the highest mountains.
F.As we all know, there are many kinds of mountains in the world.
G.People living in the mountains depend on them to make a living.

Kevin and Matt both wanted to do well on the test, but they studied for the test in different ways.
Kevin waited until Thursday evening to begin studying. He thought he would be able to remember it better
on Friday in this way. On Thursday evening, Kevin took his study notes into the living room so he could watch TV
while studying. He read the list of the countries and capitals over and over again. Then he covered up the capitals
and tried to remember what they were as he read each country’s name. When he felt he knew most of the capitals,
he then took out his map and began studying where all the countries were. Since Kevin kept spending time on TV
shows, he did not finish his study until very late.
Matt, on the other hand, worked in a different way. On Monday evening, he made a set of cards. On one
side of the card, he wrote the name of the country and on the other side, he wrote the country’s capital. There was
one card for each country. He then made several copies of the map of the world with the names of the countries
erased (擦掉). Now he could practise writing the names. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Matt spent an
hour after supper in his room studying his cards and practicing filling in his maps. On his way to school each day,
Matt took his cards with him on the bus and practiced naming the capitals. He went to bed earlier on Thursday
evening.
When the boys arrived at school on Friday, they joined their classmates and prepared to take the big test. As
Mrs. Bunch handed out the test, they both began to work very hard.

55.Who stayed up late for the test preparation?
