Actually, there’s nothing wrong with your eyes. This twinkle (闪烁的) effect is called scintillation (闪烁现象). Scintillation happens because of air movement in the earth’s atmosphere (大气). Light is “bent (弯曲)” when it travels through different parts of the earth atmosphere. As the air in the earth’s atmosphere is moving all the time, the light traveling through the atmosphere makes the stars look as if they are moving, too. The same thing also happens to things on the ground. On a very hot and shiny day, if you look at the road, you will see that the image (影像) in the distance is not clear and things move slightly. You can also see the same effect if you drop a rock into water. The rock appears a little unclear under the moving water. This twinkling effect causes a lot of problems for astronomers (天文学家), because they cannot observe the stars clearly. So, a telescope was needed in space so that the air movements in the atmosphere could be avoided. It took a long time to build the space telescope but finally in 1990, a huge space telescope called the Hubble Space Telescope was successfully sent into space. Since then, astronomers have made many important observations that have helped people understand space better. 18.The underline word “deceiving” in Paragraph 1 means ________. 19.What can we learn from the second paragraph? A.How scintillation does harm to our eyes? B.How scintillation happens in the atmosphere? C.Why light can travel through the atmosphere? D.Why the atmosphere air is moving all the time? 20.When a rock is dropped into the moving water, it appears a little unclear. Why? A.Because the water is too light to lift the rock up. B.Because the light is “bent” when traveling through the water. C.Because the water becomes dirty when the light travels through it. D.Because the rock becomes dirty when the light travels through the water. 21.The underlined world “they” in Paragraph 4 refers to ________. A.stars B.problems C.telescopes D.astronomers 22.The passage is written to ________. A.explain scintillation B.explain how a telescope works C.tell something about Hubble Space Telescope D.tell us the twinkling effect causes a lot of problems 答案第1页,共2页 答案第1页,共2页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ Unit 3 It must belong to Carla. 1.run after 2.run for exercise 3.strange happenings 4.wear a suit 5.catch a bus 6.a lady with a camera 【详解】 1. 6.with sth表示带着某物,故此处表示“拿着相机的女士”用a lady with a camera。 7.I saw a big bird flying the sky. 8.A strange thing happened him last week. 9.He might be running exercise. 10.The woman a camera could be the TV news. 11.W had a lot of delicious food the picnic. 7.in 8.to 9.for 10. with from 11.at 【详解】 7. “在天空中”in the sky,介词短语作地点状语,故填in. 8. 这里考查动词happen的用法,某人发生某事sth happen to sb, 故填to. 9. 本句是could be 表示可能性推测,根据句子结构,这里需要介词短语做定语修饰the woman, “带着,有着”with, “来自电视新闻”from the news, 故填with, from. 11. 12.The boy with __ _ unusual face said that he had seen _ __ UFO in the sky. A.a; a B.an; a C.a; an D.an; an 【答案】B 【详解】句意:这个长相不普通的男孩儿说他在天空中看到UFO了。 B。 13.They had to drive very quickly in order to __ __ the train. A.by B.taking C.catch D.on 【答案】C 【详解】句意:为了赶上火车,他们必须快点开车。by表示方式,take the train乘火车,catch the train赶上火车,on the train在火车上;根据句意可知这里表示“为了赶上火车”故选C。 14.Don’t always sit at the desk and do ______. You need more _____ if you want to keep healthy. A.exercise; exercises B.exercises; exercises C.exercises; exercise D.exercise; exercise 【答案】C 【详解】句意:不要总是坐在桌子前做练习。 exercise意为“练习,做作业”时,为可数名词;exercise意为“锻炼,运动”,为不可数名词;根据“sit at the desk and do”可知,第一空指“做练习”,因此填exercises;根据“if you want to keep healthy.” C。 15.Several policemen ________ that thief and finally caught him. A.dealt with B.ran after C.worried about D.divided up 【答案】B 【详解】句意:几个警察追赶那个小偷,最后把他抓住了。 dealt with处理;ran after追赶;worried about担心;divided up分割。 B。 16.---____ should get the job, Peter or Sandy? ---I think Sandy should get the job. A.Do you think whose B.Whose do you think C.Who do you think D.Do you think who 【答案】C 【详解】句意:---你认为谁应该得到这个工作,Peter还是Sandy? C。 17.---- Is that Mr. Green? --- Impossible. He has gone to America. It ------be him. A.could B.must C.can`t D.might 【答案】C 【详解】试题分析:句意:――那是格林先生吗?――不可能,他去美国了。 When you look up into the sky at night, have you ever felt that your eyes are deceiving you? The rock appears a little unclear under the moving water.” 根据第四段“This twinkling effect causes a lot of problems for astronomers (天文学家), because they cannot observe the stars clearly.” 故选A。
