Our tickets to tour the tower’s two levels can be purchased online up to two months in advance, but they always sell out quickly. However, since many tour operators get advance access to tickets, you can often book even earlier, or possibly score a last-minute trip to the tower. Everyone in the group can take the first part of the climb at their own pace, after which they will be given 15 minutes to catch their breath and explore the first floor of the Eiffel Tower at their 1leisure before gathering for a narrated (有讲解的) tour up. Tourists then proceed to the second floor for the narrated portion of the tour on the second floor. The tour concludes there, where tourists are free to ask questions or explore before leaving on their own. The guide for the second-floor climb is energetic and excited to share his knowledge of the Eiffel Tower, and he has an album of historic photos to back up his commentary. The guide gives visitors enough free time to explore independently from the group. Your tour ticket allows you to stay at the tower as long as you please, so plan to stick around after the tour ends to explore the shops, restaurants, and viewpoints on the first and second floors. There is an upgraded ticket option that allows you to take an elevator to the top level; this ticket will cost extra. 1. Which way can best ensure an Eiffel Tower visit? A. Buy tickets 2 months earlier. B. Ask help from tour operators. C. Book at the last minute. D. Wait for on-site tickets. 2. What can we know about the narrated tour on the Eiffel Tower? A. It costs visitors extra money. B. It begins from the 2nd floor. C. It relies on a historic album. D. It lasts 15 minutes at least. 3. What can visitors do on the second floor? A. Take a free ride to the top floor. B. Catch a bird’s-eye view of Paris. C. Enjoy a pleasant tower meal. D. Have a one-night hotel stay. B I was recently on a crowded flight home from California, and holiday travel was busy and chaotic. I counted three different occasions of children having emotional breakdowns — one at the security check point and two on the plane. I couldn’t help but notice people in line commenting, “Can’t that mom get a handle on her child?” “That kid needs some discipline!”... These people seemed to suggest that these awful holiday travel circumstances should somehow be tackled with grace and ease. To her credit, the mother of the toddler (学步儿童) in the security line kept her cool despite the sweat on her brow and her reddened face. As a mom who was constantly peppered with comments from well-intentioned friends who thought they were in possession of the recipe for perfect parenthood, I was all too familiar with her situation. I might have been one of those judgmental folks before having my own children. Today I’m much more understanding. Raising children is hard, and every child and family situation is extremely unique. The reality of our hustle-culture and the lack of resources prohibits many people from being the kind of parents they would really like to be. Judgment certainly isn’t helpful, only causing a feeling of shame. As is echoed in the article Reimaging Shame, Author Jan Bonhoeffer states, “Left unexamined, shame can cloud our self-view, leaving us convinced that our worth is conditional. It whispers lies: ‘You’ll never be good enough.’ And when shame continues, it can lead to self abandonment.” The role of motherhood is both complex and challenging, so any attack on a mother will get her loaded with shame, and shame is disempowering. The last thing women need is more disempowerment. Whoever coined the phrase, “Everyone you meet is facing an invisible battle. Be kind,” was accurate. The least we can do is suspend our tendency to judge one another, replace it with a mindset of compassion, and resolve to do a better job empowering the other women in our lives through intentional action or advocacy. 4. What can be inferred from paragraph 1? A. It’s easy to be an armchair critic. B. Bystanders see most of the game. C. There is no life without discipline. D. Criticism is a cornerstone to growth. 5. How does the author find her friends’ comments? A. Constructive. B. Informative. C. Misleading. D. Unworkable. 6. What does Jan Bonhoeffer stress in the article? A. The true worth of self-views. B. The core concept of shame. C. The potential impact of shame. D. The complex role of motherhood. 7. What does the author suggest people do in the last paragraph? A. Being non-judgmental toward mothers. B. Maintaining a positive mindset at work. C. Empowering moms with multiple skills. D. Acting swiftly to resolve hidden conflicts. C Self-confidence is trusting in our abilities or qualities. It’s usually seen as a good thing. But is it possible that we might benefit from a little less confidence in our beliefs? For many years, Dr. Mark Leary, a neuroscientist at Duke University in Durham, N.C. , has studied the role of people’s beliefs in their behavior. He found overconfidence is very common, especially when it comes to what people believe to be true, and can lead us to disastrous decisions. In 1986, NASA believed that the risk of loss for any space flight was roughly 1 in 100,000. It was an overconfident belief and might have led to the explosion of the Challenger. The good news is that there’s a “vaccine (疫苗)” for overconfidence, and that’s what scientists call “intellectual humility”— recognizing that your beliefs could be wrong. A survey of 144 college students to measure their intellectual humility found that students who saw their thinking could be wrong tended to be more curious and more likely to seek out new knowledge. They ended up knowing more at the end of the day. But does it actually help you beyond that? To find out more, Dr. Tenelle Porter at Ball State University conducted a series of studies with high school students. She found that students with intellectual humility were much more likely to test themselves to see whether they really understood the material and seek out potential holes in their understanding. When they got test scores, they’d change their study strategics to improve their performance and master the material for the next test. Students who didn’t see their knowledge could be wrong might instead just sail through their studying and wouldn’t stop to ask themselves if they truly understood what they read, heard, or did. Such students thought they got a subject down pat, but when asked to explain it on a test, they found they didn’t actually understand as much as they had thought. Although it might be good for you, researchers recognize that questioning your beliefs can be truly hard. Still, it’s important to remember that questioning beliefs isn’t always about replacing old ones with new ones. If you find it hard to question a belief, try taking “baby steps.” 8. Why does the author mention the explosion of the Challenger? A. To express his sorrow for the loss. B. To stress the high risk of space flights. C. To show the result of wrong operation. D. To give an example of overconfidence. 9. What do we know about intellectual humility according to Porter’s research? A. It urged students to gain recognition. B. It encouraged students to take exams. C. It helped students to adjust learning methods. D. It motivated students to memorize knowledge. 10. What do the underlined words “got a subject down pat” mean in paragraph 5? A. Fully mastered a subject. B. Put great effort into a subject C. Really enjoyed a subject. D. Benefited a lot from a subject. 11. What will probably be discussed in the following paragraphs? A. Why questioning our belief is hard. B. Why intellectual humility is helpful. C. How to become a confident person. D. How to practice intellectual humility. D The growing interaction between humans and artificial intelligence (AI) is shaping a new way of thinking, known as System 0. This new cognitive (认知的) framework exists outside the human mind and works as an external “thinking assistant”. System 0 works alongside the two established models of human thought: System l, which is fast, intuitive (直觉的) , and automatic, and System 2, which is slower, more analytical, and reflective. Just as an external drive allows us to store data that are not present on the computer, and we can work by connecting our drive to a PC wherever we are. AI, with its powerful processing and data-handling capabilities, can represent an external circuit to the human brain capable of enhancing it. Hence the idea of System 0, which is essentially a form of “external” thinking that relies on the capabilities of AI. By managing enormous amounts of data, AI can process information and provide suggestions based on complex algorithms (算法). However, unlike intuitive or analytical thinking, System 0 can perform calculations, make predictions, and generate responses without truly “understanding” the content of the data it works with. The integration of system 0 into human cognition raises some concerns. One of the most pressing ones is the potential damage to our critical thinking and reasoning abilities. If we blindly trust the output of system 0 without questioning it, we risk losing our ability to think independently, leading to a weaker capacity for innovation and creativity. At the same time, it is important to acknowledge the potential benefits of system 0 in increasing our cognitive capabilities and addressing complex challenges that may be beyond the capacity of human intelligence alone. Despite the polarized visions on the topic of the evolution of AI, we recommend that this revolutionary system be the object of a deep, shared reflection on how we plan to integrate it into the future of human thought. To ensure that AI remains a tool to enhance — rather than decrease — our cognitive autonomy, clear boundaries must be established. 12. What is the purpose of paragraph 1? A. To state AI’s influence on daily life. B. To introduce a new cognitive model. C. To compare three thinking systems. D. To discuss AI’s role in decision-making. 13. Which can best describe the essence of System 0? A. A deep meaning seeker. B. An analytical thinking pioneer. C. A smart decision-maker. D. An external cognitive enhancer. 14. What is the author’s tone carried in paragraph 4? A. Pushy. B. Indifferent. C. Objective. D. Dismissive. 15. What will the follow-up paragraph most probably talk about? A. Moral dilemmas in human-AI integration. B. Possibly promising prospects of System 0. C. Technical challenges in sharpening System 0. D. Specific guidelines on using System 0 critically. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 As a leadership consultant for many years, I’ve found many of the leaders I work with report feeling frustrated (沮丧的) as they face the continuous change and uncertainty in the growing challenges of their roles. ____16____ Throughout their careers, leaders are conditioned to come up with the final, correct answer. Given that human's brains are hardwired to see uncertainty as a risk or threat, it’s physiologically normal to feel stress when faced with unfamiliar situations. Sadly, in the world of leadership training, we often celebrate qualities like decisiveness, innovation, and resilience (抗逆力). ____17____ Without it, even the most talented leaders struggle to sustain their success. According to the psychological definition, frustration tolerance involves the capacity to bear discomfort, regulate emotional responses, and maintain a forward mindset in the face of challenges. ____18____ It not only allows leaders to stand the discomfort of building something meaningful without giving up but also helps them stay grounded and purposeful, even when immediate results aren’t what they hoped for. ____19____ Leaders can train their frustration tolerance by pursuing goals outside of leadership that don’t offer instant rewards. Try going to the gym teaching discipline, patience, and the value of gradual progress. These experiences build resilience and reinforce frustration tolerance as a transferable skill. ____20____ Leadership and entrepreneurship are marathons, not sprints (冲刺). Honoring your energy ensures you’re better equipped to handle frustration and maintain the stamina needed for long-term success. A. They quit their jobs out of the blue. B. Understandably, it’s easy for them to feel this way. C. In leadership it is the unsung hero of long-term success. D. One vital skill — frustration tolerance — is often overlooked. E. Leadership can’t be defined by a one-size-fits-all approach. F. Developing frustration tolerance isn’t easy, but it’s possible. G. Also, remember to prioritize rest and create space to recharge. 第三部分:语言知识运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) When Mysha decided to improve her fitness in late 2019, taking up running was a no-brainer. Every moment, we were moving farther away from the city, the place where I knew how to do things right. The car engine wasn’t off before Grandma hugged me. I slowly dragged myself out of the car. “Jude, you look unhappy. Why?” Grandma asked. She acted like nothing bad had happened last time. Could I ask how much money her neighbor Mr. Jackson had lost because of my mistake? Was he still upset with me? “I’m fine,” I answered. “I’m just missing my computer camp. Computers are something I’m good at.” “That sounds disappointing.” Grandma nodded. I liked visiting the farm during breaks before I messed things up last summer. Grandma lived alone, and Mr. Jackson was like family to her. Then one day I forgot to lock the gate and let the goats into his flower beds. He lost almost all his roses for the farmers’ market. Now, back at the farm, I felt nervous. I was trying to hide in the room when I saw Mr. Jackson! He was opening the door and calling Grandma. “I need help!” he yelled to her. “Just a second for the freshly harvested roses!” That was when he saw me. I felt my heart tighten and was ready for his criticism. I deserved it. He had probably been waiting for this moment since last summer. However, Mr. Jackson greeted me happily, “Great, Jude is here! Your grandma always tells us you are a wonderfully competent(有能力的)computer programmer.” I shook my head. “I am not competent. I am sorry I messed things up.” He was surprised and comforted me, “It was an accident. Being competent doesn’t mean you never make mistakes.” I looked out of the window. There were piles of roses waiting to be sold. “Jude, can you help us? We want to sell roses online. We have a computer and all the parts(零件)for our internet connection, but we just can’t set it up,” Grandma asked. No internet. They seemed to live in the twentieth century. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Maybe I could be someone who was really competent. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Within a few hours, orders for roses flooded in. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 江科附中2024-2025学年第二学期高一年级期末考试 英语试卷 卷面分数:150分;考试时间:120分钟 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 1. There are several reasons for this. First, students have to spend long hours studying to get good grades, which leaves them little time for rest or hobbies. Second, parents and teachers often expect them to succeed, making them feel guilty if they don’t perform well. Third, teenagers may also pressure themselves to be perfect, fearing failure. To solve these problems, schools should reduce homework and offer more mental health support. Parents should encourage their children instead of pushing them too hard. Society should also create a more relaxed environment for young people. In short, reducing pressure and providing support can help teenagers grow up happily and healthily. 第二节(满分25分) 【47题答案】 【答案】 I could be someone who was really competent. “I can definitely help with that! Where are the parts?” Following Grandma, I went into the room, where a computer sat surrounded by some scattered parts. Rolling up my sleeves, I carefully connected everything. It was a piece of cake to me. “Done!” I announced confidently. After a few adjustments, the internet was up and running. Now it was time to sell the roses. I decided to start from my social media platform. I quickly uploaded photos, added descriptions, and set prices. Before long, notifications started showing up — people were noticing. My abilities made a difference!(96词) Within a few hours, orders for roses flooded in. “This is amazing, Jude!” Grandma cheered with joy as she began bustling about, packing flowers. Mr. Jackson chuckled warmly as he handed me another bunch to label. The energy was electric — everyone was on their feet, moving quickly to keep up with the growing orders. The farm felt alive, and so did I. To our surprise, the roses sold out in just half a day. “You’ve brought the farm into the twenty-first century, Jude,” Grandma hugged me tightly. I realized that being competent wasn’t about avoiding mistakes. It was about facing them head-on and making the most of my strengths.(100词) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
