Described as China’s first-ever sci-fi blockbuster, it is already a hit in China and around the world. It is based on the novella of the same name by Hugo Award-winning author Liu Cixin. The Wandering Earth centres on three generations of a Chinese family: the grandfather, the father Liu Peiqiang, and his son Liu Qi. In the setting of the movie, the Sun is dying out, and people all around the world have built giant planet thrusters to move the Earth out of its orbit and to sail the Earth to a new star system. Leading the journey will be a massive space station that will ensure a safe journey. It’s Liu Peiqiang who’s volunteered to be part of the space station staff, a job that will keep him in space for almost twenty years. General introduction Main plot 1. What does the passage talk about? 2. How does the author develop this text? Sample writing Yet the 2500-year journey comes with unexpected dangers, and in order to save humanity, Liu Qi joins a group of young people who boldly fight for everyone’s survival. The movie presents a traditional tale of nations and people pulling together to save the planet, with large measures of love, sacrifice, and redemption. The most memorable scene is towards the end when rescue workers fleeing to their homeland turn back and help Liu Qi to save the Earth. With global conflict and division so prevalent today, these messages of hope and unity have undoubtedly struck an emotional chord in many viewers and made the film much more accessible for international audiences. With all of that said, The Wondering Earth is a massive, exciting concept and a solid tension-building story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I suggest everyone go to see it and enjoy a wholly different science fiction epic that marks a milestone in Chinese film. The most memorable scene Comments 06. Summary Good Book, Bad Movie?
