Here are the top music festivals to add the unique magic of British festivals to your summer vacation in 2025. Glastonbury (June 25-29, 2025, Somerset) Glastonbury Festival, which needs no introduction, is the world’s largest green field performing arts festival. Founded in 1970, the festival is held on a 900-acre farm in Somerset, but it also reaches a worldwide audience in the millions with a live broadcast on the BBC and online. Boomtown Fair (August 6-10, 2025, Hampshire) Boomtown Fair Festival was created by a group of young party lovers who wanted to showcase underground music, art, and theater culture. In 2025, the theme “Chapter 4: The Power of Now” continues an ongoing story. Its immersive temporary city features wandering performers and diverse music via pop-up sound systems. Reading and Leeds (July 21-24, 2025, Reading& Leeds) A youth favorite, this twin-site festival alternates acts between northern and southern England. The 2025 list of performers features Travis Scott and Bring Me The Horizon. Both venues are easily accessible by public transport, ideal for day-trippers. Latitude (July 24-27, 2025, Suffolk) The 2025 Latitude Festival features headliners Sting, Fatboy Slim, and Snow Patrol, alongside comedy stars Bridget Christie and Greg Davies. Activities include writing poems, listening to podcasts, watching cooking shows, and booking a special dinner in advance. 1. What do we know about Glastonbury? A. This made me fit into the category of being “constantly online”, defined as someone whose entire life depends on the Internet. So I decided to change my lifestyle and use a dumbphone, designed with minimal features, primarily for basic communication such as calls, text messages and limited or no Internet access. The first two days of my experiment started on a weekend. I experienced deep anxiety: I thought I was missing out on an event. As a result, I started calling my friends and family just to make sure that I wasn’t. I asked Lindsay Bira, a clinical health psychologist, why my decision to downgrade initially made me more anxious. “Being alone or disconnected from what’s going on can be read by the deep brain as a survival threat when it really isn’t a threat,” Bira said. “It is important to learn how to tolerate the feeling of being disconnected or left out until our brain understands that it is not a problem, which allows us to self-control without reaching for the phone, and we develop a deeper, healthier connection to ourselves.” I started calling friends to hang out, rediscovering the lost art of phone conversations. It reduces miscommunication compared to texting and makes me a better listener, helping me feel more connected. After the week, I broke the habit of automatically checking my phone for information. Instead of going through social media at work, I started getting news from other sources. 4. Why did the author switch to a dumbphone? A. To reduce her phone usage. B. To break her Internet dependency. C. To follow a trendy lifestyle. D. To improve her work productivity. 5. What was a problem the author faced at the beginning of her experiment? A. Her friends usually disturbed her. B. Her parents showed their worries. C. She began forgetting things. D. She felt deeply anxious. 6. What is Bira’s suggestion for feeling disconnected? A. Remove the survival threat. B. Distract attention from technology. C. Accept the feeling until the brain adjusts. D. Avoid situations that can cause anxiety. 7. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Abandoning smartphones for a tech-free lifestyle B. Reconnecting with nature and the self C. Creating space for family relationships D. Disconnecting for inner peace and connection 【答案】4. B 5. D 6. C 7. 根据第一段中的“This made me fit into the category of being “constantly online”, defined as someone whose entire life depends on the Internet. So I decided to change my lifestyle and use a dumbphone(这使我属于“持续在线”的类别,即整个生活都依赖互联网的人。所以我决定改变生活方式,使用一部傻瓜机)”可知,作者改用傻瓜机是为了打破对网络的依赖。故选B项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The first two days of my experiment started on a weekend. I experienced deep anxiety(我的实验最初两天是在周末开始的。我经历了深深的焦虑)”可知,作者在实验开始时面临的问题是感到深深的焦虑。故选D项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中Bira所说的话“It is important to learn how to tolerate the feeling of being disconnected or left out until our brain understands that it is not a problem(重要的是学会如何忍受与外界脱节或被冷落的感觉,直到我们的大脑明白这不是问题)”可知,Bira对于感到与外界脱节的建议是接受这种感觉,直到大脑适应调整。 C An Anna’s Hummingbird (蜂鸟) was seen in the forest in California recently. As it moved its head, its feathers changed colours in the sunlight. The Anna’s Hummingbird is a small hummingbird found along the west coast of North America. The male Anna’s Hummingbird has colourful feathers on its head and throat, which can appear red, pink, orange, or green. This has led to the assumption that the bird can actively change the colour of its feathers, but it is actually not the case. The colour shifts we see are caused by the structure of the feathers, not by changes to the actual colouring of the feathers. The tiny structures on the surface of the feathers interact with light waves to produce certain colours. Anna’s Hummingbird feathers have tiny structures called melanosomes (黑色素体) that look like stacked flat discs (圆片). These disc stacks are super thin, close to the size of the light waves we can see. When sunlight hits these discs, the light waves bounce and interact with each other. Some colours get brighter, while others cancel out, creating shining rainbow effects — similar to how soap bubbles. This “light dance” is why hummingbird feathers look so colourful! Unlike Anna’s Hummingbirds, some birds change the colour of their feathers in a different way. For example, the Western Tanager has yellow feathers on its head and body. During molting (蜕毛), it can absorb the yellow colour to reveal an orange-red colour underneath. Thus, while Anna’s Hummingbirds rely purely on the structures of feathers, other birds actively control the colour spread and feather movement to generate changeable feathers. The special feather structures in Anna’s Hummingbirds allow us to witness the diversity and wonder of the world. Next time you observe an Anna’s Hummingbird in the sun, watch closely as its throat seems to flash in rainbow colours. But remember — this magic is happening in the structures through physics, not biology. 8. What can we learn about Anna’s Hummingbirds according to the passage? A. Their migration happens along the coast of America. B. They move their ways towards the position of the sun. C. Their wings are covered with colourful feathers. D. They are unable to control the colour changes. 9. What causes the colour changes of Anna’s Hummingbirds? A. The high brightness of their feathers. B. The actual colouring of their feathers. C. The surface structure of their feathers. D. The seasonal changes of their feathers. 10. What can be inferred from paragraph 3 about the Western Tanager? A. It absorbs various light waves. B. It actively changes the colour of the feathers. C. It mainly generates the yellow colour feathers. D. It depends on its head to change colours. 11. What is the purpose of the last paragraph? A. To advocate for the conservation of Anna’s Hummingbirds. B. To explain the biological process of feather colour changes. C. To highlight the diversity and wonder of physics in nature. D. To compare colour-changing ways among different birds. D 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段中“This has led to the assumption that the bird can actively change the colour of its feathers, but it is actually not the case.(这导致人们假设这种鸟能主动改变羽毛的颜色,但实际上并非如此)”可知,安娜蜂鸟无法控制颜色的变化。 根据第二段中“The colour shifts we see are caused by the structure of the feathers, not by changes to the actual colouring of the feathers.(我们看到的颜色变化是由羽毛的结构引起的,而不是由羽毛实际颜色的变化引起的)”可知,安娜蜂鸟羽毛颜色变化是由羽毛表面结构引起的。 根据第三段中“Unlike Anna’s Hummingbirds, some birds change the colour of their feathers in a different way. For example, the Western Tanager has yellow feathers on its head and body. During molting (蜕毛), it can absorb the yellow colour to reveal an orange-red colour underneath.(与安娜蜂鸟不同,有些鸟以不同的方式改变羽毛的颜色。例如,西方黄林莺的头部和身体上有黄色的羽毛。在蜕毛期间,它可以吸收黄色,露出下面的橙红色)”可知,西方黄林莺主动改变羽毛的颜色。故选B。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“The special feather structures in Anna’s Hummingbirds allow us to witness the diversity and wonder of the world.(安娜蜂鸟特殊的羽毛结构让我们见证了世界的多样性和奇妙)”以及“But remember — this magic is happening in the structures through physics, not biology.(但请记住——这种神奇是通过物理在结构中发生的,而不是生物学)”可知,最后一段的目的是强调自然中物理的多样性和奇妙。故选C。 D According to the American Time Use Survey, an average grocery trip takes more than 40 minutes. That may not sound like much, but the task can be time-consuming on busy days, largely due to many decisions. A study found that the average American consumer makes about 227 choices regarding food every day. Barry Schwartz, the psychologist and author of The Paradox of Choice, connects consumer hesitation to an increase in dissatisfaction. Even after making a choice, you can doubt whether you made the right one. It seems what we could really use at the grocery store is not more choices, but fewer. Fortunately, there exists a part of the retail sector (零售) I think of as the “single-option store” or SOS. The offerings there are deliberately reduced, typically leaving only a handful of each item to choose from. Perhaps the best example is Aldi (奥乐齐). It sells the basic grocery items, while largely avoiding name brands. Instead, it provides its own line of items. The time I save from choosing among the pared-down choices means I often get my shopping done much faster through the store. Efficiency is what we are after. While the SOS model reduces certain frustrations, it has some limitations. Any Aldi’s shopper will know the annoyance of searching in vain for some specialty item needed to complete a recipe, like a particular sauce. A person may also not like an SOS brand’s particular item. Sometimes the brands I like aren’t sold at Aldi, and the store’s option just doesn’t measure up. Still, the SOS is effective at what it does: providing limited, mid-tier-quality food options, and maybe reducing my hundreds of daily decisions. I’ll gladly take that trade-off for the time it saves me, as well as the mental space it clears. Now, I can head to my local SOS and enjoy the freedom of not having to make any choice at all. 12. What effect do too many choices have on consumers according to Schwartz? A. They encourage consumers to buy more. B. They increase consumers’ confidence in their choices. C. They cause consumers to feel frustrated and dissatisfied. D. They give consumers a greater sense of freedom in their options. 13. What does the underlined word “pared-down” mean in paragraph 3? A. Simplified. B. Expanded. C. Complicated. D. Tailored. 14. What can we know about the SOS model? A. The quality of food there is very low. B. It provides only one brand for each product category. C. Shoppers have to spend more time choosing products. D. Specialty items needed for certain recipes may not be available. 15. What is the author’s attitude toward the SOS model? A. Supportive. B. Cautious. C. Indifferent. D. Doubtful. C 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第二段中的“Barry Schwartz, the psychologist and author of The Paradox of Choice, connects consumer hesitation to an increase in dissatisfaction. Even after making a choice, you can doubt whether you made the right one.(心理学家、《选择的悖论》一书的作者巴里·施瓦茨将消费者的犹豫与不满情绪的增加联系起来。即使做出了选择,你也可能怀疑自己是否做出了正确的选择)”可知,施瓦茨认为过多的选择会导致消费者感到沮丧和不满。故选C项。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“Fortunately, there exists a part of the retail sector (零售) I think of as the “single-option store” or SOS. The offerings there are deliberately reduced, typically leaving only a handful of each item to choose from.(幸运的是,我认为零售业中有一部分是“单一选择商店”或SOS。那里的商品供应被刻意减少,通常每种商品只留下少数几种可供选择)”和“The time I save from choosing among the pared-down choices means I often get my shopping done much faster through the store.(从pared-down选择中节省下来的时间意味着我经常在商店里更快地完成购物)”可知,在零售业的“单一选择商店”或SOS模式中商品供应被刻意减少,“pared-down”所在句表示从这些简化后的选择中挑选,所以“pared-down”意思是“Simplified (简化的)”。故选A项。 根据第四段中的“Any Aldi’s shopper will know the annoyance of searching in vain for some specialty item needed to complete a recipe, like a particular sauce.(任何一个在奥乐齐购物的人都知道,为了完成一道菜而寻找某种特色食材(比如某种特定的酱料)却一无所获的烦恼)”可知,SOS模式下特定食谱所需的特色食材可能无法买到。 根据最后一段“Still, the SOS is effective at what it does: providing limited, mid-tier-quality food options, and maybe reducing my hundreds of daily decisions. I’ll gladly take that trade-off for the time it saves me, as well as the mental space it clears.(尽管如此,SOS模式在其所能做的方面是有效的:提供有限的、中等质量的食物选择,也许还能减少我每天数百个决策。我很乐意用这些来换取它为我节省的时间以及它为我腾出的思维空间)”可知,作者认为SOS模式在提供选择和减少决策方面有效,且乐意接受这种模式带来的好处,所以作者对SOS模式持支持态度。故选A项。 Without feedback, we are cut off. We behave in a way that we think is right while remaining ignorant. There is positive feedback and negative feedback. Negative feedback can be hard to handle. When it is poorly delivered, it is unhelpful. ____16____ Below are some useful tips to help us give negative feedback. Deliver feedback carefully and respectfully. If given too frequently and without regard to feeling, the person on the other end will go back to defense mode — possibly losing confidence, self-esteem, and motivation. ____17____ Avoid wrapping negative feedback in praise. The feedback sandwich — “praise, criticism, praise”, while popular, may not always be appropriate. The standard can give a false view of how someone is performing. ____18____ Therefore, this standard might suggest that the performance was successful. ____19____ Either positive or negative feedback can be constructive, as long as it encourages growth. On the other hand, critical feedback serves little purpose other than to tell someone they are not good. We must, therefore, begin by considering the goal of feedback: improvement. The receiver should be clear about what has gone well and what needs to be progressed. Negative feedback must be handled carefully. ____20____ If encouraged to play to their strengths, the person receiving the feedback may possibly find a more effective way of resolving difficulties. A. Pay attention to feedback’s true goal. B. Learn to view positive feedback properly. C. Two positive comments outweigh one negative comment. D. The key is to focus on solutions and strengths, not just problems. E. Giving feedback requires a certain amount of communication skills. F. Therefore, we’d better deliver feedback with both caution and respect. G. However, if appropriate, negative feedback can be a positive experience. G 17. F 18. C 19. A 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Negative feedback can be hard to handle. When it is poorly delivered, it is unhelpful.(负面反馈可能很难处理。如果传递方式不当,它就毫无帮助)” 以及下文“Below are some useful tips to help us give negative feedback.(以下是一些有用的小贴士,帮助我们给出负面反馈)”可知,选项与前文形成转折,引出后文关于如何恰当给予负面反馈的内容。故G选项“然而,如果方式恰当,负面反馈可以是一次积极的体验” 符合语境,故选G。 【17题详解】 根据上文 “Deliver feedback carefully and respectfully.(谨慎且尊重地给予反馈)”以及上文“If given too frequently and without regard to feeling, the person on the other end will go back to defense mode — possibly losing confidence, self-esteem, and motivation.(如果反馈过于频繁且不顾及感受,对方会进入防御模式 —— 可能会失去信心、自尊和动力)” 可知,选项与小标题呼应,总结前文,说明因为不恰当反馈有不良后果,所以要谨慎且尊重地给予反馈。 【18题详解】 根据上文“The feedback sandwich — “praise, criticism, praise”, while popular, may not always be appropriate. The standard can give a false view of how someone is performing.(‘赞扬—批评—赞扬’这种反馈三明治模式,虽然流行,但可能并不总是合适。这种标准会让人对某人的表现产生错误看法)” 指出“赞扬—批评—赞扬”这种反馈模式会让人产生错误看法;C选项“两条正面评价胜过一条负面评价。”解释前文这种反馈模式会产生错误看法的原因,指出可能因表扬比例过高导致误解,符合语境。故选C。 【19题详解】 根据下文“Either positive or negative feedback can be constructive, as long as it encourages growth. On the other hand, critical feedback serves little purpose other than to tell someone they are not good. We must, therefore, begin by considering the goal of feedback: improvement. The receiver should be clear about what has gone well and what needs to be progressed.(无论是正面还是负面反馈,只要它鼓励成长就是有建设性。另一方面,批判性反馈除了告诉某人他们做得不好之外,几乎没有其他作用。因此,我们必须从考虑反馈的目标开始:改进。接收者应该清楚哪些做得好,哪些需要改进)” 可知,选项强调关注反馈目标的重要性,引出后文关于反馈目标是改进的内容。A选项“关注反馈的真正目标” 符合语境,作为主旨句概括该段内容,故选A。 【20题详解】 根据上文“Negative feedback must be handled carefully.(负面反馈必须谨慎处理)” 及下文 “If encouraged to play to their strengths, the person receiving the feedback may possibly find a more effective way of resolving difficulties.(如果鼓励对方发挥优势,接受反馈的人可能会找到更有效的解决困难的方法)” 可知,选项承上启下,说明谨慎处理负面反馈的关键,引出后文鼓励发挥优势以解决困难的内容。 A career in waitressing isn’t a dream job for most people, but Melina Salazar wasn’t like most people. At that time, I was still sad about losing Lucy, my twelve-year-old dog. I was also terrified of facing the emptiness that the death of Lucy left behind. Kody and I found each other by chance when I happened to pass by a local pet store. As luck would have it, a local shelter was there for an adoption event. I passed by the dog shelter that Kody was in, and the connection was instant. At that very moment, looking up at me was a short-haired dog with hope in his sweet but lonely eyes. The volunteer from the shelter explained that Kody was almost two and had never had a home. That was all I needed to hear. While filling out the official adoption papers, the volunteer told me that Kody was quite shy. In the first few weeks after Kody came, I found myself retreating from my own life to be alone with my sorrow. Similarly, I realized my new dog was not only shy but terrified of going out. Kody and I became couch potatoes (电视虫), comforted by the fact that we only left the house when necessary. We were partners in our shared dislike of the outside world, preferring our loneliness to the company of others. As time went on, I gradually emerged from the sadness of losing Lucy, and I realized I needed to introduce Kody to life beyond our neighborhood. Our first trip to a local dog park was a disaster. Whenever a dog passed by Kody, he was so frightened that he hid behind me. Maybe I pushed it too far, so I invited a friend and his dog to play at my house. I thought that in a familiar environment, Kody would feel much more at ease. We were all in our backyard, enjoying the fresh air and open space. However, Kody spent the entire time at the back door, wanting to be let back in. Observing his behavior, my friend commented, “He’s afraid of everything.” Not wanting Kody to be defined like this, I aimed to enrich Kody’s life. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On our second visit to the dog park, I felt nervous. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Not wanting Kody to be defined like this, I aimed to enrich Kody’s life. After reflecting on his performances, I realized that I had pushed Kody too hard. This time, I decided to take a gentler approach. I started by taking Kody to small, pet-friendly cafes where he could get used to being around people and other animals in a controlled environment. I also did some training at home, playing recordings of dogs barking and rewarding Kody when he stayed calm. Gradually, he became more relaxed, and I felt ready to try the dog park again. On our second visit to the dog park, I felt very nervous. As we entered, I kept a close eye on Kody, ready to comfort him if he got scared. To my surprise, he walked slowly towards a group of dogs. He watched them for a moment, then cautiously joined in. What made me even more proud was that Kody began to explore the park on his own, sniffing the grass. I realized then that with patience and love, even the most fearful dog could learn to enjoy the world outside his comfort zone. 词汇激活 行为类 ①反思:reflect on/think over ②习惯于:get used to/be accustomed to ③密切关注:keep a close eye on/watch closely/pay close attention to ④探索:explore/venture into 情绪类 ①令某人吃惊的是:to one’s surprise/to one’s astonishment ②害怕的:fearful/frightened 【点睛】【高分句型1】After reflecting on his performances, I realized that I had pushed Kody too hard.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】I started by taking Kody to small, pet-friendly cafes where he could get used to being around people and other animals in a controlled environment.(运用了where引导的定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 南充市2024-2025学年度下期普通高中二年级学业质量监测 英语试题 本试卷分为试题卷和答题卡两部分,其中试题卷共12页,答题卡共2页。 How much is the shirt? B My average screen time was eight hours and 44 minutes per day — more time than I spent sleeping. As a result I started calling my friends and family just to make sure that I wasn’t. Disconnecting for inner peace and connection C An Anna’s Hummingbird (蜂鸟) was seen in the forest in California recently. D According to the American Time Use Survey, an average grocery trip takes more than 40 minutes. 15 What is the author’s attitude toward the SOS model? A. Supportive. B. Cautious. C. Indifferent. D. Doubtful. Without feedback, we are cut off. E Giving feedback requires a certain amount of communication skills. F. Therefore, we’d better deliver feedback with both caution and respect. G. However, if appropriate, negative feedback can be a positive experience. A career in waitressing isn’t a dream job for most people, but Melina Salazar wasn’t like most people. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
