I’m a traveller in the sky. The wind is my guide, and it takes me on journeys. Right now, as the morning light passes through my body, I’m flying above the mountains of Zhangjiajie.
The rock called Qiankun Column catches my eye first. It’s about 150 metres high—so high that I can touch it! Its special shape also surprises me. It’s like a huge stone sword (石剑) pointing to the sky. Below, there are many trees around so the rock stands out more.
I move on and see Gold Whip Stream. It goes through a large forest and people say it’s home to all kinds of birds. Look! There’s a golden golden (红腿锦鸡). It’s looking at itself in the water! Its body is a mix of bright red, gold, yellow and green. The beautiful colours make the water even livelier.
Suddenly, the sun disappears when I’m flying forward. I see people building a traditional house. I want to take a closer look, so I become rain and fall slowly. It’s a Tujia stilt house, like a treehouse, but not in the tree. The bottom part has no walls, and the top part is where people live. This stops the water from coming in. What’s more, in Tujia culture, no one builds a stilt house alone. People in the same village come together to help. This tradition makes building easier and connects people with each other.
When the moon climbs over the mountains, it’s time for me to leave Zhangjiajie. However, I will never forget this magical land—its sights, its animals and its culture.
19. What makes Qiankun Column special to “me”?
A Its shape. B. Its colour. C. Its name. D. Its history.
20. Which of the following do “I” see according to Paragraph 3?
A. B. C. D.
21. Which of the following about the Tujia stilt house is TRUE?
A. People build it in the tree. B. It’s a place to collect water.
C. People live in its bottom part. D. It brings local people closer.
22. What might “I” be in the text?
A. A rock. B. A bird. C. The cloud. D. The wind.

I remember lying on the grass and counting stars with my parents when I was a child. My life was full of fun then. However children today are busy with schoolwork or they are glued to their screens. In fact, there are many cool new hobbies for them to see the outside world. Let’s take a look!
Geocaching is a popular treasure-searching game. The “treasure” is usually a box with a notebook and gifts. You can find the box in a park or other outdoor places. Just open the Geocaching app, choose a “treasure” near you, and then the app will offer a puzzle (谜) to help you find it.
Bird watching is also a great activity. You just need binoculars (双筒望远镜) and a guidebook. Then you can be a bird-wacher and head into nature to watch wild birds alone or in a team. As you watch them with your guidebook, you’ll get to know their names, looks and habits (习惯). Remember to move slowly, stay quiet, and protect the birds’ space for the best experience.
These hobbies are so special that they benefit (使……受益) you in different ways. When you search for “treasures” through geocaching, you’re not just walking around—you’re solving real-world problems with GPS and discovering hidden places. Bird watching provides you with a chance to learn about different birds and their homes, and help with scientific research. As well as helping you see nature differently, the two hobbies make you learn new skills and grow as a person!
Why not stay away from screens and give one of these unusual hobbies a try? They might become your new favourite source of happiness.
23. How did the writer spend his past life as a child?
A. Getting busy with schoolwork. B. Staying with grandparents.
C. Using too much time on screens. D. Enjoying outdoor activities.
24. What can we learn about the hobbies in Paragraph 2-3?
A. Geocaching is an activity inside houses.
B. Guidebooks are helpful in bird watching.
C. Geocaching is an activity to protect nature.
D. Teamwork is quite important in bird watching.
25. Which of the following can be put into ▲ in the chart?
A. get closer to nature B. develop good friendships
C. improve health conditions D. help with school subjects
26. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Keeping a new hobby is hard work.
B. Children need to have different hobbies.
C. Some unusual hobbies are fun and meaningful.
D. Geocaching is more exciting than bird watching.

Are we alone in the universe? How can we know if there is life out there in space? Just as the famous scientist Carl Sagan said, “Where there’s water, there might be life.” We’ve searched for water on many other planets, especially on Mars.
In 1877, Schiaparelli watched Mars and noticed some lines. Some people believed the lines could be man-made rivers and life on Mars built them. Then, in 1964, NASA sent Mariner 4 to take photos of Mars. Yet there was nothing to see on the planet, just a cold and dry wasteland.
This didn’t stop people’s interest. Scientists decided to find out if there was once life on Mars. In 2004, NASA’s two rovers (探测器), Spirit and Opportunity, found white lines on rocks from different places on Mars. It showed that perhaps water moved through the ground before. In 2013, another rover, Curiosity, found 2% of water in the soil (土壤) on Mars.
The discoveries were encouraging. However, they were still not enough to show there was life on Mars. These days a Chinese research team opened new doors. After China’s Zhurong rover reached Mars on May 22nd, 2021, the team studied the area around the rover’s landing place. They found special layers (层) of rocks. The layers looked a lot like those near the earth’s coastlines. This finding has been the biggest so far. It shows there was a sea on Mars a long time ago!
The discovery makes people believe that Mars was once warm, wet and habitable. To make Mars a good place to live again, scientists can study how it changed from warm and wet to cold and dry.
Now, China is planning to send astronauts to Mars. We are the ones who will go on writing the history. Was there life on Mars? What surprising facts will be discovered next? Let’s wait and see!
27. In Paragraph 1, how does the writer show water is important for finding life?
A. He lists numbers. B. He tells fun science stories.
C. He gives examples. D. He uses a famous person’s words.
28. Which is the correct order of the findings on Mars since 1877?
①There was once a sea on Mars.
②There was water in the soil on Mars.
③There could be man-made rivers on Mars.
④Maybe water once moved through the ground on Mars.
A. ④③②① B. ④①③② C. ③④②① D. ③①④②
29. What does the underlined word “habitable” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Fine to live on. B. Easy to change. C. Difficult to land on. D. Impossible to study.
30. What’s the best title for the text?
A. Mars, Are You Out There? B. Hello, Is Anyone on Mars?
C. Mars We Need Water on the Earth! D. Hello, Let’s Visit Mars Again!

Hello, everyone! I’m glad to show you my plan for the summer course Exploring New Rural China.
My design focuses on experiencing China’s rural transformation through hands-on activities. First, we’ll operate modern farming machines to understand agricultural technology. This showcases how innovation boosts efficiency. Next, we’ll assist farmers in selling local fruits via e-commerce platforms, learning about digital empowerment in rural areas. Additionally, we’ll visit eco-friendly villages to observe sustainable development practices.
These activities will deepen our understanding of rural revitalization while developing practical skills. By combining technology, economy, and ecology, we can truly appreciate China’s new countryside. Let’s explore this exciting journey together!
Thank you!
