I was a professional skater. Skating fast down a long hill, I slipped and ended up Supermanning 10 feet through the air before falling headfirst, my teeth crashing through my lower left cheek. I went to hospital and got the wound sewed. When I look at my scar (伤疤) in a mirror, I don’t experience it as a disfigurement. I remember the joy and excitement of flying through the air.
No doubt this puts me in a minority. To most, a beautiful body is a healthy body. But there’s a limit to the happiness we can find in maintaining what is generally accepted as a healthy or beautiful body. As a professor of philosophy exploring important life questions with my students, I often return to this one: How can we come to understand the full range of the body’s aesthetic (美学的) potential and power?
I like to tell them about Henri Matisse,a revolutionary French painter. In 1941, when Matisse was 72, he was found with cancer. After a risky surgery, Matisse’s mobility was severely restricted, and he spent a lot of time in bed. Feeling as though he had gone as far as he could with oil painting, Matisse found that everything in his life was open to question.
At that time, Matisse might have been expected to see his new condition as a reason to give up. He didn’t. He said, “My terrible operation has made a philosopher of me. I have so completely prepared for my exit from life that it seems that Tm in a second life.” Matisse turned to collage (拼贴画). With paint, scissors and paper,he drew and constructed a new self.
There’s a lesson on what it means to care for the body. It’s a lesson learned when we live through our bodies as vehicles of beauty,as channels for aesthetic engagement. It’s a lesson learned when we practise complete aesthetic openness to our bodies,to what they can do and produce as time and chance unavoidably transform us.
24. How did the author feel about his skating accident?
A. It was quite a terrible experience. B. It brought him unusual pleasure.
C. It severely damaged his appearance. D. It urged him to reflect on his failure.
25. Why does the author mention Henri Matisse?
A. To help explain a philosophical question. B. To prove the significance of a healthy body.
C. To show the life struggles of different people. D. To demonstrate his great artistic achievements.
26. What do Matisse’s words in paragraph 4 imply?
A. His operation didn’t work out well. B. His hidden talent for found art emerged.
C. His loss was actually transformative. D. His immobility limited his artistic progress.
27. What does the author advise people to do?
A. Try to find beauty in the world. B. Attach more importance to physical health.
C. Engage in more aesthetic activities. D. Fully appreciate the body’s aesthetic capabilities.

Companies are increasingly using AI in recruiting (招聘) and human resources. This includes CV (简历) screenings, candidate matching, interview schedules, performance evaluations and layoff decisions. A make-up artist says she lost her job at a leading brand after an AI recruitment tool that used facial recognition technology marked her down for her body language.
New figures show some 41% of companies use AI to “improve recruiting and human resources”, according to a study of 20 countries in November last year. The UK ranked joint second with the United Arab Emirates, above the United States and below India, for the use of AI tools to support human resources needs like hiring, firing and training workers.
Figures on the use of AI in work must be taken with a pinch of salt because different companies define the use of AI differently, but the overall trend is that companies are increasingly using AI for human resources, and the UK is one of the front-runners in this space.
AI is used by companies to read CVs and score candidates based on who it predicts is the best match, as well as to analyse candidates’ body language and facial expressions in video interviews. It comes against a background of a significant jump in the number of job applications last year on the social network for careers. The number of online applications per person suddenly increased by 23% in 2023 compared with the year before.
Software companies are also advertising AI tools that can check if an employee is at risk of resigning based on metrics (衡量指标) like their pay and work history. However, workers in the UK say they do not know when these tools are being used on them and the Trades Union Congress is calling for regulations to be put in place to protect them.
28. What does the make-up artist’s experience indicate?
A. AI is replacing man in some jobs. B. AI might give unfair judgements
C. AI-driven recruitment worries man. D. AI is influencing hiring decisions.
29. Which best explains the underlined part “a pinch of salt” in paragraph 3?
A. Curiosity. B. Relief. C. Doubt. D. Anxiety
30. What is the purpose of speaking of application numbers in paragraph 4?
A. To explain the reason for AI usage. B. To criticize great reliance on AI.
C. To discuss a new trend for careers. D. To show shifts in the job market.
31.What is UK workers’ attitude towards AI tools in work?
A. Worried. B. Dismissive. C. Tolerant. D.Approving.

Sea ice is vital for snow crabs (雪蟹). Usually, as winter’s thick sea ice melts (融化), the meltwater settles on the seafloor, producing a pool with temperatures below 2℃. This cold-water pool not only serves as a shelter for snow crabs, but also allows them to grow well on the eastern Bering Sea shelf, Alaska. But a heat wave in the sea in the region in 2018 and 2019 prevented the usual amount of sea ice from forming, and, according to yearly temperature survey data, the cold pool never appeared and then a large number of crabs died.
Cody Szuwalski, a fishery biologist at the 0.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, used computer models to analyze temperature data while creating various environmental conditions in the laboratory to observe the crabs’ responses to changes in water temperature, and look for drivers behind the sudden population drop.
Data show the crab population initially exploded in 2018-reaching a historic high. But the crabs occupied a smaller area than normal for some reason. That means more crabs were crowding onto less space on the shelf. Then came the heat wave. The water temperature probably didn’t kill the crabs directly, as snow crabs in laboratories can survive in waters up to 12℃. Higher water temperature can speed the cold-blooded crabs’ metabolism As a result, the crowded crabs probably needed more calories, but because of the smaller area, they had even fewer resources to sink their claws into. Compared with similar-sized crabs from the previous year, those surveyed in 2018 had lower body weights, evidence that starvation played a role in the missing crabs.
Scientists can typically use data from the past to help predict and prepare for changes in the future. But the future increasingly holds events that have never happened on record before---like the snow crab population decline---so they’re harder to prepare for, says Christopher Harley, an ecologist at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, because there hasn’t been enough attention to the secondary effects of heat waves in the sea on cold-blooded creatures, such as higher calorie needs and the risk of starvation.
32. Why is sea ice important to snow crabs?
A. It shelters them from harm. B. It makes ideal habitats for them.
C. It regulates water temperatures. D. It stabilizes the seafloor for them.
33. How did Cody Szuwalski get his findings?
A. By observing snow crabs in the sea. B. By launching field investigations.
C. By virtual analysis and lab research. D. By integration of other studies' data.
34. Ho, did the heat wave affect snow crabs?
A. It sped up their reproduction. B. It increased their need for food.
C. It narrowed their living places. D. It slowed down their movements.
35. Which can be the best title for the text?
A. Global Warming Threatens Ocean Life B. Heat Waves Ruin Snow Crabs’ Last Home
C. The Number of Snow Crabs Decreases Fast D. The Mass Death of Snow Crabs Is Explained

It’s well known that kids benefit from eating dinner with their families. In fact, children who spend this quality time with their parents do better in school and have larger vocabularies. 36_________ But what you may not know is that eating together as a family has benefits in other aspects too.
Healthy eating can be promoted. When families eat together, they usually have healthier home-cooked meals and consume more fruits and vegetables. 37_________ So they tend to give up destructive behavior and eat more mindfully when their children are watching.
38_________ It has been found that family meals may lead to social benefits for parents including those who have lower levels of the symptoms (症状) of depression and stress. Parents who eat with their children also say that they are more likely to be in a good mood.
When parents and kids eat together, they are developing links. In other words, they can build stronger connections. They will turn of the TV, put away their cell phones and just have face-to-face conversations. Keep the conversations positive and encourage kids to discuss their day. 39_________
Eating together helps pass on family tradition. 40_________ When teens grow up in homes that have regular family meals, they are far more likely to copy that practice in their homes. A study published in the Journal of Family Psychology shows the more frequently a child eats family meals with his parents, the more he eats with his own children.
A. Social skills can also be a key factor.
B. Eating together profits parents' mental health.
C. Plus, parents should keep listening more often.
D. Parents want to be a model of good eating habits.
E. Eating as a family hands down good parenting skills.

Growing up in a small village in the care of my grandmother affected my childhood with a mix of love and simple pleasures. Every day after school, Pd hurry to Grandmother's welcoming hone, greeted by the smell of freshly baked cookies and the warmth of the fireplace. We would spend hours together gardening, baking, and especially knitting (编织). Each birthday,Grandmother would gift me a hand-knitted sweater with bright colors and complex patterns, which I held dear.
Later, I moved to the city for my studies, leaving the countryside and Grandmother behind. Getting used to the exciting city life and burdened by an increasingly demanding academic schedule, I found myself unwilling to call Grandmother. Although the handmade sweater kept arriving each year, my appreciation for it decreased,The bright, old-fashioned patterns looked out of place among the modern and fashionable clothes of my classmates.
Before my 18h birthday, a package from Grandmother arrived on time again. Inside was Grandmother’s latest creation. The sweater was as colorful as ever, with eye-catching designs, but it might cause embarrassment if I wore it in school. In a moment of disappointment, I threw the sweater aside. “Why couldn’t Grandmother just be like my fiends relatives who gifted fashionable clothes or smart devices? Why does she stick to such an old-fashioned tradition?” I complained to my mother.
My mother was sad when she heard my words. “Your grandmother is getting older, and her eyesight is not so good as it used to be,” she replied. “Despite this, she insists on keeping the birthday tradition alive.” She continued, her voice trembling (颤抖), “She rejected my advice, spending months knitting that sweater. Every stitch (一针) is filled with her love for you. She could easily buy something from the store, but she chooses to make the sweater because it means something more.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;

D
Cody Szuwalski...used computer models to analyze temperature data...in the laboratory to
observe the crabs' responses to changes in water temperature...drop”可知,Cody Szuwalski利用计算机模
寻线索 根据第三段中的“Higher water temperatures can speed the cold-blooded crabs' metabolism(新陈代谢)...because of the smaller area, they had even fewer resources to sink their claws into...the missing crabs”可知,较高的水温可以加快冷血动物雪蟹的新陈代谢。
通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“then a large number of crabs died”、第二段中的“1ook for drivers behind the sudden population drop”以及第三段中的“Data show”
“The water temperature probably didn't kill the crabs directly” “evidence that starvation played a role in the missing crabs”可知,第一段先叙述了雪蟹数量骤减的情况;第二段讲述一个生物学家通过使用电脑模型和实验室实验来寻找导致这种情况的原因;第三段展开阐述原因:热浪和饥饿;最后一段进行了总结。

56.on/upon 考查介词。 故填on/upon。
I went to China's ceramics capital, and then to Gaoling Mountain。 故填was found。
I saw the caves______ the paths。caves后的where people... ago是定语从句,paths后的they used to walk along是省略that/which的定语从句。
I was deeply impressed by a 5,000-year-old ceramic piece。During my visit to Shanghai Museum是介词短语作状语空处所在部分是修饰先行词piece的定语从句,proving... the same是现在分词短语作状语。
I founded our ceramics art brand。
the connection between A and B表示“A和B的联系”,本句表示“我们不仅想要珍惜陶艺而且想要珍惜两个陶艺之都之间的联系”。

However, their reaction didn’t bother me. After I explained its story and the love behind it, an expression of envy crossed their face. They showed great admiration for my unique and priceless git. Wearing the sweater, I felt a profound connection to my grandmother. I proudly saw her creation as a badge of honor.
