Chinese pianist Tian Jiaxin explores creative performances and crossover cooperations with
traditional Chinese music, with the hope of bringing the music of the East to the Western
world.
高一级英语试题第4页(共12页)
Tian attended regular school instead of studying at a music school in her childhood.
This enabled her to absorb China's rich culture and understand the bigger picture later in
her pursuit of a career as a professional pianist."There's so much to grasp when explaining
a piece. What we're conveying is not only the notes, but the culture behind the music,"Tian
said.
As a Chinese pianist,Tian is looking to add more depth to her performances, stressing
the contrast between Eastern and Western cultures."No matter which country I am
performing in,I always include Chinese music in my program. With Western pieces,I hope
to show the world that a female musician from China can perform the music that they are
familiar with and love."Tian says that she believes her mission is to make China heard on
a wider stage.
Tian believes that music is developing over time and that music from different ages
has its own unique meaning."I've found that people's understanding of Chinese music is
often limited to certain pieces like Jasmine Flower,"Tian said."However, there are so
many great pieces of Chinese music that are unacquainted outside of China. So,I always
try to feature both the time-honored classics of Chinese music and the newly created pieces,"
she added.
"Chinese music has the magic to cause resonance (with the audience and
convey the various and deep culture of Chinese civilization,"Tian said.

A new study confirms what many have expected and offers a bit of hope:stress,or
pressure, can lead to gray hair, and taking stress away appears to reverse (the process.
Study co-author Martin Picard was amazed at the number of people sharing stories of
their white hair growing out in color."People were saying,I saw this when I was younger.
My gray hair went back to dark after this event had happened and people said I was crazy
because it was not possible.Thank you for confirming that I'm not crazy,'"said Picard.
Picard and his team examined 397 hairs from 14 healthy volunteers ranging in age
from 9 to 65.All had some gray hairs or two-colored hair.
They described periods of extreme stress during the last year. The researchers then
looked at tiny parts of their hair-a record that Picard compared to the rings of a tree-
to infer what happened to the pigment()during those troubled times. It tumned out the
increase in stress is closely connected with hair graying. But when they told researchers
about a reduction in stress, some hairs got their pigment again.
Today,an unfriendly email or a controlling boss can cause a stress response. These
changes help you continue to exist in difficult or dangerous situations, according to the
authors."The stress response is necessary because it helps ensure survival in evolutionary
(terms, but there's a cost to being stressed and the cost is that maybe some of the
cells(细胞)age faster,,”Picard said.
While hairs are growing, cells receive signals from the body, including stress
hormones (chemicals produced by your body),the authors write. These hormones may
cause changes in hair pigmentation and lead to gray hair."But don't put away the hair dye
(染发剂)just yet,”Picard said. The effect is possible for only a certain age window and
influences just some hair cells on someone's head.So if you've had gray hair for many
years,a long relaxing vacation won't help it start growing black again.

A.They disbelieved it.
B.They were angry about it.

A.Report increases or reductions in stress.
B.Compare their hairs to the rings of a tree.
C.Do relaxing activities like going on vacation.
D.Draw their gray or two-colored hair.
24.What do the researchers say about stress response?
A.It will damage human health.
B.It helps humans survive danger.
C.It may make cells grow much faster.
D.It increases the chances of color returning.
25.Which statement might Picard agree with?
A.Common hair dyes are likely to cause gray hair.
