When Stella Olsen was 12 years old, her father presented her with a choice. Her family owned sled dogs, which could take a lot of work. Her father asked her if she’d like to take care of the dogs. “If you don’t want to take care of them, we have to destroy them,” Olsen recalls him saying. She immediately sprung into action, hunting and fishing to feed the dogs. Now, 14 years later, she’s raising sled dogs of her own. Her dogs are like family.
For generations, Greenlanders have relied on sled dogs for hunting. But the number of sled dogs has been cut in half over the last 20 years. “One of the contributors is that the traditional hunting culture is changing,” Morten Meldgaard, a professor at the University of Greenland, said. Those who have long relied on dog sledding are also having to adapt to a warming climate. “Sea ice is not as widespread as it was earlier on. And so, the use of the sled dogs on the ice is limited,” he added.
That means mushers (赶狗拉雪橇的人) like Olsen have to adapt to keep this tradition alive. She’s considering buying a sled with wheels to train her dogs, to account for the fact that there is less ice. “I’m not going to quit my dogs because of the weather but it’s really difficult,” she said. For her, it’s hard to put into words what it feels like to dogsled. “People always ask about how it used to be, but I can only tell it in my version because I live here and now,” she said.
“Putting all of this into words will be key to preserving many of Greenland’s traditions,” says Manumina Lund Jensen, a PhD student at the University of Greenland. She’s working to preserve knowledge about dog sledding through research and by collecting oral histories. “That is the wisdom which we pass on to the younger generations,” she says.
4. Why did Olsen decide to look after the sled dogs?
A. Because she valued sled dogs highly.
B. Because her father forced her to do so.
C. Because the dogs were easy to raise.
D. Because she longed to sell them.
5. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. Examples of climate change.
B. Reasons for the decline of sled dogs.
C. A brief introduction of Greenlanders’ life.
D. The destructive effect of global warming.
6. What does Olsen think of preserving the tradition of dog sledding?
A Tiring. B. Expensive. C. Challenging. D. Risky.
7. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Scientific research on dog sledding has proved effective.
B. Younger generations have lost interest in dogsled.
C. Oral histories play a key role in preserving traditions.
D. Climate change makes cultural preservation impossible.
A 5. B 6. C 7. C
根据第一段中““If you don’t want to take care of them, we have to destroy them,” Olsen recalls him saying. She immediately sprung into action, hunting and fishing to feed the dogs. Now, 14 years later, she’s raising sled dogs of her own. Her dogs are like family. (“如果你不想照顾它们,我们就只能销毁它们,”Olsen回忆父亲当时说道。她立刻行动起来,通过打猎和捕鱼来喂养这些雪橇犬。14年后的今天,她已拥有了自己的雪橇犬群,这些狗狗对她而言如同家人一般)”可推知,Olsen选择照顾雪橇犬是因为她非常珍视它们,不愿意看到它们被销毁。故选A项。
根据第二段中“But the number of sled dogs has been cut in half over the last 20 years.
根据第三段中Olsen所说的话“I’m not going to quit my dogs because of the weather but it’s really difficult (我不会因为天气原因就放弃我的雪橇犬,但这确实非常艰难)”可知,Olsen认为保护雪橇犬的传统非常有挑战性。
根据最后一段中“Putting all of this into words will be key to preserving many of Greenland’s traditions (把这一切用语言表达出来,将是保存格陵兰诸多传统的关键所在)”和“She’s working to preserve knowledge about dog sledding through research and by collecting oral histories. (她正通过研究和收集口述历史,致力于保存有关狗拉雪橇的传统知识)”可推知,口述历史对保护雪橇犬传统很关键。故选C项。

Listening to music can enhance our lives in all kinds of way — many of us use it during exercise to regulate our mood. But can listening to background music while you work really make you more productive? The answer is yes. Actually, the best way to use music in the workplace depends on several factors, including your personality traits, what you’re doing, and what kind of music you’re listening to.
Your personality has a key influence on whether background music can boost productivity or be distracting in the workplace, which relates to your unique level of arousal (唤起). Research suggests that being at a best level of arousal facilitates a state of “flow”, enhancing performance and productivity. Introverts (内向的人) already have a high baseline level of internal arousal. Adding background music might push them over their optimal (最佳的) level, likely reducing productivity. Extroverts, on the other hand, have lower baseline levels of internal arousal, so need more external stimulation to perform at their optimal level.
Research has shown the nature of the task you’re doing can also have an important effect. Because of connections between music and language in the brain, trying to read and write at the same time as listening to complex music — especially music with lyrics — can be particularly difficult. However, if you’re doing a simple or repetitive task such as data entry or a manual task, having music on in the background can help with performance — particularly upbeat and complex music.
Studies reveal that fast and loud music is somewhat detrimental to complex tasks, like reading comprehension, whereas soft and slow music has been shown to promote the completion of tasks requiring critical thinking skills. Other research found that listening to calming music can have benefits for memory, while aggressive and unpleasant music can have the opposite effect. However, these effects also depend on your personality, your familiarity with the music, and your musical preferences.
Music can be beneficial to your attention, mood and motivation. Choosing music that makes you feel good will likely help boost your performance in the workplace.
8. What can be inferred about introverts and their preference for background music?
A. They need complex music to stay focused.
B. They would perform better with loud music.
C. They might prefer silence to avoid overstimulation.
D. They benefit equally from all types of background music.
9. What kind of music is the most helpful when you do simple tasks?
A. Soft and slow music. B. Upbeat and complex music.
C. Classical music without lyrics. D. Nature sounds like rain or waves.
10. What does the underlined word “detrimental” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Beneficial. B. Appropriate. C. Unique. D. Harmful
11. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Music: Language We All Speak
B. Musical Preference: Think Before You Leap
C. Music’s Impact: It Depends
D. Aggressive Music: Memory Killer
C 9. B 10. D 11. C
根据第二段中的“Introverts (内向的人) already have a high baseline level of internal arousal. Adding background music might push them over their optimal (最佳的) level, likely reducing productivity.(内向的人本身就有较高的内在兴奋基线水平。添加背景音乐可能会让他们超过最佳水平,从而可能降低工作效率)”可知,内向的人可能更喜欢安静,以避免过度刺激。故选C项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“However, if you’re doing a simple or repetitive task such as data entry or a manual task, having music on in the background can help with performance — particularly upbeat and complex music.(然而,如果你在做简单或重复性的任务,如数据录入或体力劳动,播放背景音乐有助于提高表现——尤其是欢快复杂的音乐)”可知,做简单任务时,欢快复杂的音乐最有帮助。
根据第四段中的“Studies reveal that fast and loud music is somewhat detrimental to complex tasks, like reading comprehension, whereas soft and slow music has been shown to promote the completion of tasks requiring critical thinking skills.(研究表明,快速且大声的音乐对阅读理解等复杂任务有些detrimental,而轻柔缓慢的音乐则有助于完成需要批判性思维能力的任务)”可知,前后句为对比关系,“detrimental”与“promote”意思相反,意为“有害的”。
D
When 58-year-old Will Studholme ended up at a hospital with belly pain, he wasn’t expecting a diagnosis of osteoporosis It turned out that he had a severe case of food poisoning, but earlier, he received an abdominal CT scan. That scan was later run through artificial intelligence (AI) technology which identified a collapsed vertebra (椎体塌陷) in his spine, a common early sign of osteoporosis. “I feel very lucky,” says Mr. Studholme, “This would not have been recognized without the AI technology.”
Applying AI to examine scans and identify early signs of common preventable chronic (慢性的) diseases is called opportunistic imaging (机会性成像). It is considered opportunistic because it makes use of imaging that has already been done for another clinical purpose — whether suspected cancer or belly pain. It has the potential to catch previously undiagnosed diseases in the early stages, before the beginning of symptoms.
There’s a lot of data in CT scans related to body tissues and organs that we don’t really use, notes Miriam Bredella, a radiologist at NYU. And while analysis of it could be done without AI by radiologists, it would be time consuming. There are also benefits of the technology in terms of reducing bias (偏见), she notes. A disease like osteoporosis, for example, is considered as mostly affecting elderly white women, so doctors don’t always think to look outside of that population. Opportunistic imaging, on the other hand, doesn’t discriminate that way. Mr. Studholme’s case is a good example.
“While the technology can benefit individuals, there are negative effects,” says Sebastien Ourselin, a professor of healthcare engineering. First, people who are marked by the opportunistic imaging as potentially having a disease will likely need further testing, which takes resources. And, if the AI is inaccurate, that could result in a lot of unnecessary testing. Then, services need to be in place for those extra people that do end up being diagnosed. The extra load is a challenge that comes with the technology.
12. What did the AI technology recognize in Mr. Studholme’s CT scan?
A. A collapsed vertebra. B. Food poisoning.
C. Cancer symptoms. D. Belly pain.
13. How does AI technology assist in identifying diseases according to the text?
A. By creating a wide range of medical scans.
B. By reducing the need for healthcare experts.
C. By concentrating only on pretty severe symptoms.
D. By analyzing CT scans done for another purpose.
14. Why is the example of osteoporosis mentioned in paragraph 3?
A. To prove opportunistic imaging helps reduce bias.
B. To show it takes plenty of time to perform CT scans.
C. To highlight osteoporosis is a rare disease.
D. To explain how AI works faster than humans.
15. According to Sebastien, what is a major concern about opportunistic imaging?
A. It may lead to unnecessary treatments.
B. It treats certain patient groups worse.
C. It cannot provide testing results right away.
D. It may increase the demand on the healthcare system.
A 13. D 14. A 15. D
根据文章第一段“That scan was later run through artificial intelligence (AI) technology which identified a collapsed vertebra (椎体塌陷)in his spine, a common early indicator of osteoporosis.( 随后,该扫描结果经过人工智能(AI)技术分析,该技术识别出他脊柱中有一处椎体塌陷,这是骨质疏松症常见的早期迹象)”可知,AI技术在Studholme先生的CT扫描中发现塌陷的椎体。故选A项。
根据文章第二段“Applying AI to examine scans and identify early signs of common preventable chronic (慢性的) diseases is called opportunistic imaging (机会性成像). It is considered opportunistic because it makes use of imaging that has already been done for another clinical purpose—whether suspected cancer or belly pain.(应用人工智能检查扫描并识别常见可预防慢性疾病的早期迹象被称为机会性成像。它被认为是机会性的,因为它利用了用于其他临床目的的成像——无论是疑似癌症还是腹痛。)”可知,人工智能通过分析用于其他临床目的的成像来识别疾病。故选D项。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“There are also benefits of the technology in terms of reducing bias (偏见), she notes. A disease like osteoporosis, for example, is considered as mostly affecting elderly white women, so doctors don’t always think to look outside of that population. Opportunistic imaging, on the other hand, doesn’t discriminate that way. Mr Studholme’s case is a good example.(机会性成像在减少偏见方面也有好处。例如,像骨质疏松症这样的疾病被认为主要影响老年白人女性,所以医生们并不总是考虑将目光投向这一人群之外,而机会性成像就不会有这样的区别。)”可知,此处以骨质疏松症为例来说明机会性成像有助于减少偏见。故选A项。
根据最后一段“First, people who are marked by the opportunistic imaging as potentially having a disease will likely need further testing, which takes resources. And, if the AI is inaccurate, that could result in a lot of unnecessary testing. Then services need to be in place for those extra people that do end up being diagnosed. The extra load is a challenge that comes with the technology.(首先,那些被机会成像标记为潜在疾病的人可能需要进一步的检查,这需要资源。而且,如果人工智能不准确,可能会导致大量不必要的测试。然后,需要为那些最终被诊断出来的额外的人提供服务。额外的负荷是这项技术带来的挑战。)”可知,机会性成像的运用会造成额外的负荷, 增加对医疗保健系统的需求。故选D项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How to Break a Bad Habit
Maybe you bite your nails when you watch a movie. Or, you’re drinking more than you’d like or checking your phone way too often. We all have habits that can seem to take over our lives. ____16____ Here are some tips to help you.
•Know your triggers (诱因). What sets a habit in motion are triggers. They can be numerous. Knowing what triggers your behavior is the first step in breaking a bad habit. ____17____ With recognition, you have an opportunity to do something different.
•Plan a replacement in advance. Breaking a bad habit is a planned replacement: Sit on your hands during the movie; put your phone in your coat pocket rather than leave it in sight. But don’t expect to come up with a replacement on the spot. You should know what you’ll do about the movie or phone in advance. If you wait, ____18____
•____19____ Because bad habits start as bad solutions to problems, it makes sense to find a better solution to your primary problem. Maybe you have an anxiety disorder that drives your use of alcohol. It’s time to find better ways to solve your anxiety. The habit will fade over time when you reduce the source.
•Have a sideline coach. ____20____ It means having someone to turn to when you’re struggling. The key is being clear with the coach about the help you need to avoid feeling resentful.
Breaking bad habits is about replacing habit-driven behaviors with new, healthier options. It’s about you running your brain rather than your brain running you.
A. Identifying the trigger makes it less of a trigger.
B. This is about support.
C. the triggers will be too powerful to resist.
D. no one talks about it.
E. But habits can be broken.
F. Track your emotional temperature.
G. Solve the underlying (根本的) problems.
E 17. A 18. C 19. G 20. B

根据空前的“We all have habits that can seem to take over our lives. (我们都有一些似乎能掌控我们生活的习惯)”以及空后的“Here are some tips to help you. (这里有一些建议可以帮助你)”可知,此处应起到转折作用,表明坏习惯是可以被打破的,从而引出下文的建议。E选项“But habits can be broken. (但习惯是可以被打破的)”中的“But”承接前文,与前文形成转折,且为下文介绍打破坏习惯的方法做了铺垫,符合语境。故选E项。
【17题详解】
根据本段小标题“Know your triggers (诱因). (了解你的诱因)”以及空前的“Knowing what triggers your behavior is the first step in breaking a bad habit. (知道是什么触发了你的行为是打破坏习惯的第一步)”可知,此处应进一步说明识别诱因的作用。A选项“Identifying the trigger makes it less of a trigger. (识别诱因会降低它的触发作用)”中的“Identifying the trigger”与前文内容相呼应,解释了识别诱因对打破坏习惯的意义,符合语境。故选A项。
根据空前的“But don’t expect to come up with a replacement on the spot. You should know what you’ll do about the movie or phone in advance. If you wait, (但不要指望当场就能想出替代方案。你应该提前知道你会如何处理电影或手机。如果你坐以待毙,)”可知,此处应说明不提前计划替代方案的后果。C选项“the triggers will be too powerful to resist.

故填a。
故填What。
根据than可知,此处用precise的比较级more precise,修饰名词documentation。故填more precise。
故填have been adopted。
故填as。
故填to teach。

I’m excited to share that our class won the “Sea Exploration” poster competition organized by the school English newspaper!
Our team spent weeks brainstorming creative ways to combine marine biodiversity with sustainable technology. We used recycled materials and painted vibrant coral reefs alongside futuristic underwater research stations. It was challenging but fun to balance art and science.
This experience taught me the power of teamwork and the urgency of ocean conservation. I’ve grown more curious about humans’ role in protecting marine ecosystems. Let’s discuss your thoughts on this topic sometime!
Best wishes,

It was a hot July day in Philadelphia. The five boys I was with had grown tired of playing football.
“Hey!” said Ned. “We haven’t climbed the cliff (悬崖) for a long while.”
“Let’s go!” said someone else.
And off they went, running like a group of dogs. I hesitated. I longed to be brave, but I’d been a sickly child most of my eight years and dared not take chances.
“Come on!” called Jerry, my best friend. ’“I’m coming!” I yelled, and ran after them. Finally we arrived at a clearing At the far side was the cliff. It was only about 60 feet high, but to me it looked like the very symbol of the impossible.
One by one, the other boys climbed upward. I stayed behind until the others were halfway up; then trembling and sweating, I began to climb. At some point, I looked back and was scared. The ground below the cliff seemed very far below; one slip and I would fall.
But the boys were chatting above me on an earthen ledge (悬崖岩石突出部) two thirds of the way to the top. I tried my best to catch up with them and stayed as far back on the ledge as I could. In a few minutes, they started up to the top. They planned to walk home by another way from the top.
“Hey, wait!” I cried, “But I cannot, I...”
“You can stay if you want to”, said Ned.
Jerry looked concerned, but he went with the others. I looked down and felt dizzy. I could never climb back down; halfway, I would grow weak, fall and die. But the way up to the top was even worse — higher and steeper; I would never make it.
Silent now, I lay on my stomach, filled with fear and tiredness, unable to move. Night fell and a first star in the sky appeared.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At that moment, I heard the voices of Jerry and my father. I could hardly believe my ears. Jerry must have gone back home and fetched my father, realizing I was in trouble. Their voices seemed to carry a glimmer of hope in the growing darkness. “Don’t move, we’re coming!” Jerry shouted, trying to sound reassuring. My father’s voice followed, steady and calm, “Stay where you are, son. We’ll get you down safely.” The sound of their approach filled me with a sense of relief. Before I knew it, they were beside me, and my father’s hands found mine in the darkness.
My father began guiding me down, his voice calm yet firm. “Take it slow, one step at a time,” he instructed, his hands reaching out to steady me whenever I hesitated. Jerry stayed close to us, and his presence was a silent source of strength. The descent was slow, but with their support, I managed to keep going. My father’s comforting words and Jerry’s occasional words of encouragement kept me focused. As we reached the bottom, I collapsed into my father’s arms, tears streaming down my face. He held me tightly, saying, “You did it, son. You faced your fear and came out stronger.” That night, I learned that courage wasn’t about being fearless, but about finding the strength to move forward despite the fear.

A. Tiring. B. Expensive. C. Challenging. D. Risky.
7. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Scientific research on dog sledding has proved effective.
B. Younger generations have lost interest in dogsled.
C. Oral histories play a key role in preserving traditions.
D Climate change makes cultural preservation impossible.
C
A Soft and slow music.

B To show it takes plenty of time to perform CT scans.

It was a hot July day in Philadelphia. The five boys I was with had grown tired of playing football.
“Hey!” said Ned “We haven’t climbed the cliff (悬崖) for a long while.”
