一、开场(Introduction)
T: Good morning, class! Welcome back to our English class. Today, we are going to have a review of Unit 2 “Getting along”. As we all know, getting along with others is a very important part of our lives. In this unit, we have learned many useful words, expressions and stories related to good relationships. Now, let's start our journey of review.
二、词汇复习(Vocabulary Review)
T: First, let's look at some key words in this unit. Who can tell me what “selfish” means? (Write “selfish” on the blackboard)
S1: It means a person only cares about himself/herself and not about others.
T: Very good! You are absolutely right. “Selfish” is an adjective. For example, “He is a selfish boy because he never shares his toys with his friends.” (Write the example sentence on the blackboard) Now, can you change “selfish” into a noun?
S2: It's “selfishness”.
T: Great! “Selfishness” is the noun form of “selfish”. Next word, “angry”. What's the meaning of “angry” and how can we use it?
S3: “Angry” means being very annoyed. We can say “I am angry with him because he broke my pencil.”
T: Excellent! “Angry” is often used with the preposition “with”. And do you know the noun form of “angry”?
S4: It's “anger”.
T: Correct. And the adverb form?
S5: “Angrily”.
T: Well done. Let's see another word, “lively”. Who can give me an example sentence with “lively”?
S6: The party was very lively last night.
T: Perfect. “Lively” describes something full of energy and life. Now, “afraid”. What does it mean and how do we use it?
S7: “Afraid” means feeling scared. We can say “I am afraid of dogs.”
T: Good. “Be afraid of” is a common phrase. Now, let's move on to some verbs. “Get along”. What does “get along” mean?
S8: It means to have a friendly relationship with someone.
T: Exactly. We often use “get along with sb.” For example, “I get along well with my classmates.” (Write the example on the blackboard) Next, “share”. What's the meaning of “share” and can you give an example?
S9: “Share” means to give a part of something to others. Like “We should share our happiness with our friends.”
T: Very good. Sharing is an important way to build good relationships. Then, “shout”. What does “shout” mean?
S10: It means to speak very loudly.
T: Right. And we often use “shout at sb.” when we are angry with someone. For example, “Don't shout at your parents. It's not polite.” Now, “run away”. What does this phrase mean?
S11: It means to leave quickly in order to escape.
T: Correct. For example, “The thief ran away when he saw the police.”
三、课文回顾(Text Review)
T: Now that we have reviewed some important words, let's recall the stories in our textbook. Do you remember the story about the Giant's garden? Who can briefly tell the story?
S12: There was a giant who had a beautiful garden. At first, he was selfish and didn't allow children to play in his garden. So, winter stayed in his garden all the time. Later, he realized his mistake and let the children in. Then, spring came back to his garden.
T: Wonderful! You told the story very clearly. So, from this story, what can we learn about getting along with others?
S13: We should be kind and share with others, not be selfish.
T: Exactly. Sharing and kindness can bring happiness and make our relationships better. Now, let's look at another story, the story of Liu Chi Xiang. Who can tell this story?
S14: There were two families, the Zhangs and the Wus, who had a dispute over the dividing line between their houses. The Zhang family asked a relative for help, but the relative told them to step back. So, the Zhang family stepped back three chi. Then, the Wu family was moved and also stepped back three chi. That's how Liu Chi Xiang was formed.
T: Great job. What do we learn from this story?
S15: We should learn to be tolerant and take a step back when we have conflicts with others.
T: Very good. Tolerance and compromise are important in getting along with others.
四、语法复习(Grammar Review)
T: In this unit, we also learned some important grammar points. We learned the present perfect tense with “since” and “for”. Who can tell me the difference between using “since” and “for” in the present perfect tense?
S16: “Since” is used with a point in time, like “since last year”, “since I was 10 years old”. And “for” is used with a period of time, like “for three years”, “for two hours”.
T: Excellent. You understand it very well. Now, let's do some exercises. I will give you some sentences, and you need to fill in the blanks with “since” or “for”. (Write the sentences on the blackboard: 1. I have lived in this city ______ 2010. 2. She has been ill ______ three days. 3. We have been friends ______ a long time. 4. He has studied English ______ he was in Grade 5.)
S17: For the first sentence, it should be “since”.
T: Right. Because “2010” is a point in time.
S18: The second sentence should be “for”.
T: Correct. “Three days” is a period of time.
S19: The third sentence, “for”.
T: Good. “A long time” is a period.
S20: The fourth sentence, “since”.
T: Well done. Now, let's also review the usage of “hear sb./sth. doing sth.” We use this structure to express that we hear someone or something is in the process of doing something. For example, “I heard the birds singing in the tree this morning.” Can you give me another example?
S21: I heard my mother cooking in the kitchen just now.
T: Very good. This shows that you are cooking at that moment.
五、口语练习(Oral Practice)
T: Now, let's do some oral practice. I will divide you into pairs. Suppose you are in a situation where you have a disagreement with your friend. You need to have a conversation with your partner to solve the problem. You can use the words and expressions we learned in this unit, like “argue over”, “reach an agreement”, “explain”, “discuss” and so on. You have 5 minutes to prepare. (Students start to practice in pairs)
T: Time's up. Which pair would like to come to the front and show us your conversation?
Pair 1:
S22: Hi, I'm so angry with you. We argued over which movie to watch last time. You didn't listen to me at all.
S23: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you angry. Let's discuss it again. What kind of movies do you like?
S22: I like action movies, but you always want to watch romantic movies.
S23: Well, how about this time we watch an action movie first, and next time we watch a romantic movie?
S22: Hmm, that sounds fair. Okay, let's reach an agreement on this.
T: Great job, you two. You used the words and expressions very well and solved the problem in a good way. Let's give them a big hand. (Clap hands) Now, which other pair wants to show?
Pair 2:
S24: I'm really upset. We argued over the plan for our school project. You didn't follow my idea.
S25: I'm sorry. I just thought my idea was better. Let's explain our ideas clearly to each other.
S24: My idea is to do a survey about students' hobbies, and yours?
S25: I think we can make a video about our school's history. But now I see your idea is also good. Maybe we can combine them.
S24: How?
S25: We can start with a survey about students' hobbies related to school history, and then make a video.
S24: That's a great solution. Let's reach an agreement.
T: Wonderful. You not only solved the problem but also came up with a creative solution.
六、写作指导(Writing Guidance)
T: After the oral practice, now it's time for writing. Suppose you are going to write a passage about “How to Get Along Well with Others”. First, let's think about the structure of this passage. What should we include in the beginning?
S26: We can write why it's important to get along well with others.
T: Right. We can use some sentences like “Getting along well with others is very important in our daily lives because we need to communicate and cooperate with people all the time.” Then, what should we write in the main part?
S27: We can write about some problems we may have when getting along with others and how to solve them.
T: Exactly. For example, we can write “A common problem is arguing with friends. If we disagree about something, we should communicate with each other, listen to each other's opinions, and try to reach an agreement.” What else can we write in the main part?
S28: We can also write about some good ways to get along well, like being kind, sharing, and being helpful.
T: Good. We can say “We should be kind to others. For example, we can help our classmates when they have difficulties in study. Sharing is also important. We can share our books, toys or even our feelings with our friends.” Now, what about the ending?
S29: We can write a conclusion, like “In conclusion, if we follow these ways, we can get along well with others and have a happy life.”
T: Great. Now, you have 15 minutes to write this passage. Remember to use the words, expressions and grammar we learned in this unit. (Students start to write)
