Practice role-playing to reinforce real-life communication. 教学环节 学习活动 新课教学 一、开场(Greeting) T: Good morning, class! Nice to see you again. How are you today? S: Fine, thank you. And you? T: I'm great, too. Before we start our new lesson, let's have a quick review of what we learned last time. 二、复习导入(Revision and Lead-in) T: In the last unit, we talked a lot about ourselves, like our appearances, personalities and hobbies. Now, I want some of you to come to the front and briefly introduce yourself to the class again. Who wants to have a try? (邀请几位同学进行简单的自我介绍) S1: My name is... I'm... years old. I like... S2: ... T: Very good! You all did a wonderful job. Now, think about this. In our daily lives, we don't live alone. We are always around different people, such as our family members, classmates and friends. So, how can we get along well with them? That's what we are going to learn in Unit 2 - Getting along. 三、新课讲解(Presentation) (一)Quote Reading T: First, look at the quotes on the screen. Read them carefully and think about the questions below. (展示三句引言) Don't do to others what you don't want others to do to you. —Confucius Not everyone thinks the way you think, knows the things you know, believes the things you believe, nor acts the way you would act. Remember this and you will go a long way in getting along with people. —Arthur Forman We need people, we need the cooperation of others. There is very little we can do alone. —Earl Nightingale T: Now, let's discuss the first question: What are the quotes about? Talk with your partners for one minute. (学生讨论) T: Time's up. Who wants to share your opinion? S3: I think these quotes are all about how we should get along with other people. T: Exactly! Confucius' quote tells us a very important principle in getting along with others. What does it mean in Chinese? S4: 己所不欲,勿施于人。 T: Right. It teaches us to think about how others feel and treat them the way we want to be treated. How about the second quote by Arthur Forman? What does it tell us? S5: It means that we should understand that different people have different thoughts, knowledge, beliefs and behaviors. T: Great! We should respect these differences if we want to get along well with others. And the third quote by Earl Nightingale? S6: It shows the importance of cooperation. We can't do many things by ourselves, so we need others' help. T: You are absolutely right. Now, let's move on to the second question. Which quote do you agree with most? Discuss with your partners again. (学生讨论) T: OK. Stop here. Let's share our ideas. S7: I agree with Confucius' quote most because it's very easy to understand and it's a basic moral rule. If everyone follows this rule, the world will be a better place. T: That's a very good point. What about others? S8: I like the third quote. In our study and daily life, we really need to cooperate with others. For example, in group projects, we all have different tasks, and only by working together can we finish the project well. T: Well said. Cooperation is really important in many situations. (二)Picture Discussion T: After discussing the quotes, let's look at the picture on the textbook. What can you see in the picture? S9: I can see some children playing in a garden. T: Good. And is there anything else? S10: There is a big wall around the garden. T: Right. Now, answer two questions. First, do you have any problems in getting along with others? Second, can you share one with the class? Discuss with your group members. Each group chooses a representative to share your group's ideas later. (学生分组讨论) T: Time's up. Let's start with Group 1. Group 1 representative: Sometimes we have problems with sharing. For example, in our group, we have only one ball, and everyone wants to play with it first. T: Oh, that's a common problem. How did you solve it? Group 1 representative: We decided to take turns playing with the ball. T: That's a good way. It shows that communication and compromise are important in getting along with others. What about Group 2? Group 2 representative: We sometimes have misunderstandings. Like one of my classmates thought I was laughing at him, but actually I was laughing at a joke on my phone. T: I see. Misunderstandings can easily happen. What did you do then? Group 2 representative: I explained to him immediately, and then he understood. T: Good. Honest communication can clear up misunderstandings. (三)Title and Picture Prediction T: Next, look at the title of the passage on the next page: "The Selfish Giant" and the picture below it. Try to predict what the passage is about. Use the words on the screen to help you. (展示单词:garden, selfish, play, children, angry, spring) T: Discuss with your partners for two minutes. (学生讨论) T: Now, let's hear your predictions. S11: I think the story is about a selfish giant who doesn't let children play in his garden. Maybe he gets angry when he sees the children. And it may have something to do with spring. T: That's a very good prediction. What do other students think? S12: I agree. Maybe the garden has some changes in spring, and the giant's attitude also changes. T: Well, let's read the passage together to see if your predictions are correct. (四)Passage Reading T: Open your textbooks to the passage "The Selfish Giant". I will read the passage aloud first. Listen carefully and try to catch the main idea. (教师朗读文章) T: OK. Now, let's analyze the passage paragraph by paragraph. In the first paragraph, it says "Every afternoon, the children play in the Giant's garden. It is a large garden with soft, green grass. Here and there, over the grass, stand beautiful flowers, like stars." What kind of place is the garden? S13: It's a very beautiful and lovely place. T: Right. There is soft grass and beautiful flowers. How about the children? What are they doing? S14: They are playing in the garden. T: Good. Now, look at the second paragraph. The Giant comes back. What does he do when he sees the children in his garden? S15: He shouts at them in an angry voice. T: How do you know he is angry? S15: Because it says "he shouts in a very angry voice". T: Very good. What does the word "shout" mean? Can you give me an example sentence? S16: "Shout" means to speak very loudly. For example, "Don't shout at me!" T: Great. So, the Giant shouts at the children. Then what do the children do? S17: They run away. T: And what does the Giant do next? S18: He closes the gate and builds a high wall around the garden. T: Why does he do that? S19: Maybe he is selfish and doesn't want the children to play in his garden. T: Exactly. The word "selfish" means caring only about oneself. The Giant is very selfish. Now, look at the fourth paragraph. What season comes, but not in the Giant's garden? S20: Spring comes, but it's still winter in the Giant's garden. T: Why is it still winter in the Giant's garden? S21: Maybe because the Giant is selfish and doesn't let the children in. T: Good guess. Let's continue. In the sixth paragraph, what does the Giant hear one morning? S22: He hears birds singing. T: How does he feel? S23: He is very happy because he thinks spring has come at last. T: Right. Then he jumps out of bed and looks outside. What does he see? S24: He sees a hole in the wall and a little child in every tree. And the trees are covered with flowers. T: How does the Giant feel then? S25: He feels ashamed because he realizes he has been selfish. T: Exactly. What does he do next? S26: He knocks down the wall. T: What does the phrase "knock down" mean? S27: It means to make something fall by hitting it. T: Good. So, the Giant knocks down the wall. What does this show? S28: It shows that he has changed and is no longer selfish. T: Very good. Now, let's summarize the story. Who can tell the story briefly? S29: At first, the children like to play in the Giant's beautiful garden. But the selfish Giant gets angry when he sees them and drives them away. He closes the gate and builds a wall. Then, spring comes to other places, but his garden is still in winter. One day, he hears birds singing and sees a hole in the wall and children in the trees. He realizes he has been selfish and knocks down the wall. T: Wonderful! You really understand the story. 四、知识讲解(Language Points) (一)Shout T: Just now, we learned the word "shout". Let's learn more about it. "Shout" can be used as a verb, meaning to speak very loudly. We often use "shout at sb." to show that we are angry with someone and speak loudly to them. For example, "The teacher shouted at the noisy students." But if we just want to make someone hear us from a distance, we use "shout to sb." For example, "I shouted to my friend across the street." Now, I will give you some sentences. Please choose the correct preposition, "at" or "to". (展示句子) He shouted ____ me because I broke his toy. She shouted ____ her mother from the second floor. (学生回答) S30: The first one should be "at", and the second one should be "to". T: Correct. Well done. (二)Since T: Another important word we met in the passage is "since". "Since" can be used as a preposition or a conjunction. When it is used as a preposition, it means "from a particular time in the past until now". For example, "I have lived in this city since 2010." Here, "since 2010" shows the starting point of the action. When it is used as a conjunction, it also means "from a particular time in the past until now", and the clause after "since" usually uses the past tense. For example, "I have known him since we were in primary school." Now, let's do some exercises. Complete the sentences with the correct form of the verb. (展示句子) He ____ (be) ill since last week. Since I ____ (come) to this school, I have made many friends. (学生回答) S31: The first one should be "has been", and the second one should be "came". T: Perfect. You've got it. (三)Nor T: We also saw the word "nor" in the passage. "Nor" is a conjunction, and it is often used with "neither" or "not". For example, "He doesn't like apples, nor does he like bananas." It means he doesn't like either apples or bananas. Now, make a sentence using "nor". S32: She can't sing, nor can she dance. T: Very good. Your sentence is correct and meaningful. (四)Glad T: "Glad" is an adjective, meaning happy or pleased. We often use "be glad to do sth." For example, "I'm glad to meet you." or "She is glad to help her classmates." Now, please make a sentence using "be glad to do sth." S33: I'm glad to go to the park with my parents this weekend. T: Great. It seems you are all looking forward to the weekend. (五)Knock T: "Knock" can be used as a verb. It has several meanings. In the passage, "knock down" means to make something fall by hitting it. But "knock" can also mean to hit a door, window, etc. with your knuckles to attract attention. For example, "Please knock on the door before you come in." Now, I will give you some sentences. Please tell me the meaning of "knock" in each sentence. (展示句子) He knocked on the table to get our attention. The workers knocked down the old building. (学生回答) S34: In the first sentence, "knock" means to hit the table with his hand to get our attention. In the second sentence, "knock down" means to make the old building fall. T: Exactly. You understood it very well. 五、课堂练习(Practice) T: Now, let's do some exercises to 巩固 what we have learned today. Open your workbooks to the corresponding page. First, let's do the vocabulary exercise. Match the words with their meanings. (学生完成练习,教师核对答案) T: Next, let's do the reading comprehension exercise. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions. (学生阅读并回答问题,教师讲解答案) T: Well, you all did a good job in the exercises. 六、课堂总结(Summary) T: Today, we have learned a lot. First, we discussed some quotes about getting along with others and understood the importance of treating others as we want to be treated, respecting differences and cooperation. Then, we read the story "The Selfish Giant" and learned some new words and phrases, such as "shout", "since", "nor", "glad", "knock down". Remember these words and try to use them in your daily communication. Also, think about the moral of the story. We should be kind and unselfish, and only in this way can we get along well with others and make our lives more beautiful. 七、作业布置(Homework) T: For today's homework, first, copy the new words and phrases three times and remember their meanings. Second, write a short passage about how you get along with your best friend. You can talk about your experiences, problems and how you solve them. The passage should be at least 80 words. Bring your homework to class next time. T: That's all for today's class. See you next time! 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
