But the urge would no doubt be greater if you were living on the streets with little food and money. All of this makes the actions of the homeless Tom Smith even more remarkable. After spotting a wallet on the front seat inside a parked car with its window down, he stood guard in the rain for about two hours waiting for the owner to return. After hours in the cold and wet, he reached inside and pulled the wallet out hoping to find some ID so he could contact the driver, only to discover it contained 400 in notes, with another 50 in spare change beside it. He then took the wallet to a nearby police station. When the car’s owner John Anderson and his colleague Carol Lawrence returned back, they were shocked to find two policemen standing next to it. The policemen told them what Mr. Smith did and that the wallet was safe. The pair were later able to thank Mr. Smith for his kindness. Mr. Anderson said: “I couldn’t believe that the guy never took a penny. To think he is sleeping on the streets tonight when he could have stolen the money and paid for a place to stay in. This guy has nothing and yet he didn’t take the wallet for himself; he thought about others instead. It’s unbelievable. It just proves there are honest guys out there.” Mr. Smith’s act drew much of the public’s attention and won praise from social media users after Mr. Anderson posted the story on Facebook. Now Mr. Anderson has set up an online campaign to raise money for Mr. Smith and other homeless people in the area, which by yesterday had received 8,000. “People have been approaching him in the street; he’s had job offers and all sorts,” Mr. Anderson commented. 4. You do not notice, but someone is watching you and learns your iPhone password(密码). Then, they steal your phone. Suddenly, your photos, documents, financial information, and the rest of your digital life have been taken from you. Apple, the iPhone maker, recently released an update to its iOS operating system. It has a new feature called Stolen Device Protection (SDP). The feature makes it a lot harder for phone thieves to open the device and access important functions and settings. Apple says the feature adds extra security for users. It addresses a drawback that thieves have used to lock device owners out of their Apple accounts, delete their photos and other files from their iCloud, and take money from their bank accounts. SDP keeps track of a user’s “familiar locations”, such as their home or workplace. It also reduces the importance of passwords. Instead, it favors “biometric”(生物识别的)features such as faces or fingerprints, which are a lot harder to copy. If a thief tries to erase or reset an iPhone, the device will require a Face ID or Touch ID scan to confirm that the person is the rightful owner. The new feature does not let someone use the password or any other backup method. Another part of the new feature is designed to slow down thieves trying to change security settings. For example, if someone tries to sign out of an Apple ID account, change the password or reset the phone in an unfamiliar location, they will have to authenticate(证实)by using Face ID or Touch ID, wait an hour, and then do a second facial or fingerprint scan. Changing an Apple ID password, updating Apple ID security settings, adding or removing Face or Touch ID, and turning off the Find My device feature or Stolen Device Protection also will lead to this feature. 8. What is the function of paragraph 1? A. To set a phone-stealing scene. B. To introduce the following text. C. To remind readers to be cautious. D. To explain how password theft directly causes device loss. 9. What can SDP do to add security for users? A. Stop iCloud files from being deleted. B. Make it less likely to enter the phone. C. Secure Apple accounts with remote locking. D. Prevent thieves from accessing bank accounts. 10. What does SDP require for resetting a stolen iPhone? A. Previous passwords. B. A new security setting. C. An Apple ID account. D. Identity recognition. 11. What does the passage mainly talk about? A. iPhone’s anti-theft measure. B. Apple ID security settings. C. Usage of biometric features. D. Apple’s iOS operating system. B 9. B 10. D 11. 第一段“Imagine that you are in a crowded place. You do not notice, but someone is watching you and learns your iPhone password(密码). Then, they steal your phone. Suddenly, your photos, documents, financial information, and the rest of your digital life have been taken from you.(想象你在一个拥挤的地方。 根据第二段中“It has a new feature called Stolen Device Protection (SDP). The feature makes it a lot harder for phone thieves to open the device and access important functions and settings.(它有一个新功能,称为失窃设备保护(SDP)。这一功能使得手机窃贼更难打开手机并访问重要功能和设置)”可知,SDP可以让手机不太容易被他人打开,故选B。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“If a thief tries to erase or reset an iPhone, the device will require a Face ID or Touch ID scan to confirm that the person is the rightful owner.(如果小偷试图删除或重置iPhone,该设备将需要面部识别或触摸识别扫描,以确认该人是合法的所有者)”可知,如果想重置iPhone,需要身份确认,故选D。 根据全文内容,结合第二段“Apple, the iPhone maker, recently released an update to its iOS operating system. It has a new feature called Stolen Device Protection (SDP). The feature makes it a lot harder for phone thieves to open the device and access important functions and settings.(iPhone制造商苹果公司(Apple)最近发布了iOS操作系统的更新。它有一个新功能,称为被盗设备保护(SDP)。这一功能使得手机窃贼更难打开手机并访问重要功能和设置)”可知,文章主要介绍了iPhone的“失窃设备保护”功能,故选A。 D When you think about it, food is an important part of our lives. Family gatherings center around food and the celebration of major life events and milestones involves food in one way or another. The same holds true for us here on the Space Station. Food is important and ends up usually being a topic of discussion for almost every crew. The food that we have here on ISS has to meet many different requirements. What about variety? How do you meet all of the peculiarities of the people that you come across, especially when they are from different cultures? What about the logistics (物流) of getting the right food here at the right time? So there are a couple of different questions you have to consider when you talk about food and long-duration space flight. On the U.S. side we have gone to a standard menu, meaning that every 16 days you start over with the same menu. To compensate the crews, we are allowed to pick one “preference” container which consists of our pick of anything on the U.S. menu list. This allows us some variety in our menu, with the choices up to us. One of the desirable options for any crew is to make sure that enough tortillas (墨西哥薄饼) get on board. You can do so much with a tortilla; it becomes the vehicle with which to eat almost anything. Our food also comes packaged in many ways. But no matter what the form of the food though, you still have the same problem eating it—you do not want it flying away from you and making a mess when you open it up. In this case a little bit of extra water is extremely helpful. It keeps the food kind of sticking together and to the package and to your spoon. Small things do escape from time to time, but we really try hard to minimize the random flying food problem. That is enough for now! Next time I will write about how to cook in space. 12. What does the underlined word “peculiarities” mean in paragraph 2? A. Ambitious targets. B. Similar requests. C. Unusual habits. D. Extreme conditions. 13. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning tortilas? A. To explain the preference container. B. To give an example of standard menu. C. To advocate tortilas to the readers. D. To show the variety of food options. 14. What can be inferred about eating in space? A. Food packaging is optional. B. Sufficient water helps transport food. C. Flying food problem is unavoidable. D. Eating in space is easier than most imagine. 15. Where is the text most probably taken from? A. A science fiction. B. A food magazine. C. A space history website. D. An astronaut’s journal. C 13. A 14. C 15. 根据第二段“How do you meet all of the peculiarities of the people that you come across, especially when they are from different cultures?(你如何满足你遇到的人的所有特点,特别是当他们来自不同的文化背景时?)” 根据第三段“To compensate the crews, we are allowed to pick one “preference” container which consists of our pick of anything on the U.S. menu list. This allows us some variety in our menu, with the choices up to us. One of the desirable options for any crew is to make sure that enough tortillas (墨西哥薄饼) get on board. (为了补偿机组人员,我们可以挑选一个“偏好”容器,里面装有我们从美国菜单列表中挑选的任何东西。这让我们的菜单有了一些多样性,选择权在我们自己。对任何机组人员来说,一个理想的选择是确保有足够的墨西哥薄饼被带上飞船。)”可知,作者提到墨西哥薄饼是为了解释“偏好”容器。故选A项。 根据第四段“Small things do escape from time to time, but we really try hard to minimize the random flying food problem.(小东西确实会时不时地飞出来,但我们真的在努力将随机飞散的食物问题降到最低。)” Helping Your Child Understand the Value of Money It seems that there are more things for teens to spend money on than ever. There are expensive clothes, video games, MP3 players, and more. If you aren’t made of money, it’s hard to give your kids everything they want. ____16____ Start teaching your children about money early. Starting around age 10, give them a few dollars every week for them to spend however they want. ____17____ But let them choose what they want to do. Don’t set limits on what they can spend it on, and don’t continually buy them things they want. They’ll soon learn that if they spend all their money as soon as they get it, they won’t be able to afford more expensive things they want. ____18____ Have them go to the store with you or watch you pay the bills. Soon they’ll realize how much some things really cost. As your child gets older, about 13 or 14, increase their pocket money as you increase their responsibility. Once they’re more responsible, give them a budget for something bigger like clothes and make them stick to it. Eventually, your child will probably get a job. Take this opportunity to teach them about savings. ____19____ Let them use the rest as mad money to spend however they want. If you’re worried about what they’re buying, open them a checking account you can monitor. Teaching your child the value of money will not happen overnight. ____20____ Remember that they will probably mess up along the way, but mistakes are how they learn. A. Help them choose a well-paid job. B Introduce the budgets (预算) and how much things cost to your children earlier. C. Have them put some into a savings account to use for other pursuits. D. And you can also encourage them to pay the bills. E. That’s why it’s important to help them understand the value of money. F. It takes many small steps. G. Make the pocket money dependent on doing housework. E 17. G 18. B 19. C 20. 【16题详解】 根据空前的“It seems that there are more things for teens to spend money on than ever. There are expensive clothes, video games, MP3 players, and more. If you aren’t made of money, it’s hard to give your kids everything they want. (如今,青少年的消费项目似乎比以往任何时候都要多。昂贵的衣物、电子游戏、MP3 播放器等等,不一而足。如果你并非财力雄厚,很难满足孩子所有的愿望。)”可知,此处应说明在这种情况下,让孩子理解金钱价值的重要性。E选项“That’s why it’s important to help them understand the value of money. (这就是为什么帮助他们理解金钱的价值很重要。)”中的“That”指代前文情况,且引出下文关于如何教孩子理解金钱价值的内容,符合语境。故选E项。 【17题详解】 根据空前“Starting around age 10, give them a few dollars every week for them to spend however they want. (从10岁左右开始,每周给他们几美元,让他们随意花。)”可知,此处应是对给零花钱方式的进一步说明。G选项“Make the pocket money dependent on doing housework. (让零花钱与做家务挂钩。)”是给零花钱的一种具体方式,能让孩子明白金钱需要通过劳动获得,符合语境。故选G项。 【18题详解】 分析语篇可知,此处应为本段的主题句,概括本段主要内容。根据空后的“Have them go to the store with you or watch you pay the bills. Soon they’ll realize how much some things really cost. As your child gets older, about 13 or 14, increase their pocket money as you increase their responsibility. Once they’re more responsible, give them a budget for something bigger like clothes and make them stick to it. (让他们和你一起去商店,或者看着你支付账单。很快,他们就会意识到有些东西的实际花费有多少。当孩子再大一些,大约十三四岁时,随着你增加他们的责任,也要相应增加他们的零花钱。一旦他们更有责任心了,就给他们一笔用于购买衣物等较大宗物品的预算,并让他们严格遵守。)”可知,本段主要讲述的是让孩子了解预算和物价。B选项“Introduce the budgets (预算) and how much things cost to your children earlier. (早点向你的孩子介绍预算和东西的价格。)”能够概括本段主旨,引出下文内容,符合语境。故选B项。 【19题详解】 根据空前的“Eventually, your child will probably get a job. Take this opportunity to teach them about savings. (最终,你的孩子可能会找到一份工作。抓住这个机会教他们储蓄。)”以及空后的“Let them use the rest as mad money to spend however they want. (让他们把剩下的钱当作闲钱随意花。)”可知,此处应说明让孩子如何进行储蓄。C选项“Have them put some into a savings account to use for other pursuits. (让他们把一部分存入储蓄账户,用于其他追求。)”中的“some”与空后“the rest”相呼应,是教孩子储蓄的具体做法,符合语境。故选C项。 【20题详解】 根据空前的“Teaching your child the value of money will not happen overnight. (教孩子金钱的价值不是一蹴而就的。)”可知,此处应进一步说明这个过程的特点。F选项“It takes many small steps. (这需要很多小步骤。)”承接前文,解释了教孩子理解金钱价值需要循序渐进,符合语境。故选F项。 第三部分 语言运用(每小题1分,满分15分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A destructive fire raced through Lahaina, Hawaii last August. We’re going to miss the movie!” Sarah shouted at her best friend, Emily, who was still looking for her wallet. The two had planned to see a movie together, but Emily’s frequent lateness was driving Sarah crazy. “I’m sorry, I just can’t find it,” Emily replied, her voice shaking. As they finally rushed out of the house, Sarah continued to complain. “This always happens. I’m tired of waiting for you. I plan everything, and you ruin it!” Emily remained silent, her eyes fixed on the ground. When they arrived at the cinema, it was already ten minutes after the movie had started. “See? We missed the beginning because of you,” Sarah said angrily. Emily bought the tickets without a word. During the movie, Sarah couldn’t focus. She noticed Emily was sitting quietly, looking down. Sarah’s anger began to fade, and she started to feel a bit guilty. After the movie ended, they walked out of the cinema. Sarah realized Emily was acting strange. Usually, she would be chatting non-stop, but now she seemed lost in thought. “Hey, are you okay?” Sarah asked, a little worried. Emily looked up, her eyes red. “I’m really sorry about today. It’s just that…my mom’s been sick, and I’ve been under so much stress. I was looking for the money she gave me to buy some medicine.” Sarah was shocked. She had been so busy being angry about being late that she hadn’t even noticed something was wrong with Emily. At that moment, a wave of regret washed over Sarah. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From that day on, Sarah changed. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 At that moment, a wave of regret washed over Sarah. She reached out and gently held Emily’s hand. “I’m the one who should be sorry,” she said sincerely. “I was so caught up in my own feelings that I didn’t stop to think about what you were going through. How’s your mom now?” Emily’s eyes filled with tears again, but this time they were tears of relief. She shared the details of her mother’s condition, and Sarah listened attentively, offering words of comfort. Sarah then suggested they go to the pharmacy together to buy the medicine. From that day on, Sarah changed. Whenever she felt annoyed or impatient, she would think of that day and try to see things from the other person’s perspective. She realized that everyone was fighting their own battles, and a little understanding could make a big difference. When Emily was late again, instead of getting angry, Sarah would ask if everything was okay. Their friendship became stronger than ever, built on a foundation of mutual understanding and empathy. 3.词汇激活 行为类 ① 提供:offer/provide ② 意识到:realize/be aware of ③ 建议:suggest/advise 情绪类 ① 温柔地:gently/softly ②宽慰:relief/comfort 【点睛】【高分句型 1】“I’m the one who should be sorry,” she said sincerely.(运用了who引导的定语从句) 【高分句型 2】Whenever she felt annoyed or impatient, she would think of that day and try to see things from the other person’s perspective.(运用了whenever引导的时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 秘密★启用前 萍乡市2024—2025学年度高一第二学期期末考试 英语试卷 (120分钟,总分150分) 本试卷分选择题和非选择题两部分。 1. 4. Great minds think alike. B. Patience is the best remedy. C. Reap what you have sown. D. Fortune favors the bold. C Imagine that you are in a crowded place. B Sufficient water helps transport food. C. Flying food problem is unavoidable. D. Eating in space is easier than most imagine. 15. Where is the text most probably taken from? A. A science fiction. B. A food magazine. C. A space history website. D. An astronaut’s journal. Helping Your Child Understand the Value of Money It seems that there are more things for teens to spend money on than ever. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
