Walking is the best form of exercise. It is good for the upper respiratory (呼吸的) system and the legs. It helps us control our weight and blood sugar. Walking is also a good way to help you make more friends, bringing chances to see new things and meet new people. Personally, I try to walk at least 5 miles daily.
As well as walking, I also cycle around Xiamen. Cycling is great for weight loss and helps to build stamina, which allows you to cycle for hours without getting tired. However, cycling does not allow for the same level of social contact as walking. It is for this reason that I would strongly suggest that you try long-distance walking if you want to be physically healthy. I originally started walking around Xiamen because I didn’t have a car, but I soon started to enjoy the walking for its own sake.
I have also made many friends during my walks. It’s not uncommon for my 5-mile walk to sometimes take as long as 2 or 3 hours, because I stop to chat with different shop owners along my route. These days, if I skip my walk for even one day, the people in the shops may want to know why I didn’t come.
I’ll never forget the first time some people followed me when I was walking, and asked if it was okay for them to walk with me. I really didn’t know what to say, so I just replied that I didn’t mind. I have been invited for lunch, dinner, and sometimes just to sit and drink tea with total strangers. There is nothing more pleasant than walking past a schoolyard and hearing all the kids say hello to me.
4. What are walking’s physical benefits mentioned in the passage?
A. Helping weight loss and stretching legs.
B. Doing good to legs and controlling weight.
C. Strengthening muscles and building bones.
D. Controlling blood sugar and relaxing nerves.
5. What does the underlined word “stamina” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Mental focus. B. Short-term power.
C. Quick reaction speed. D. Long-lasting energy.
6. Why does the author talk about his walking experiences?
A. To criticize strangers.
B. To introduce ways to walk.
C. To show us the joy of walking.
D. To teach us communication methods.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Cycling for Weight Loss
B. Building Social Connections
C. Exploring Urban Exercise Trends
D. Walking for Health and Social Contact
B 5. D 6. C 7. D
根据第一段中“It is good for the upper respiratory (呼吸的) system and the legs. It helps us control our weight and blood sugar. (它对上呼吸道和腿部有好处。它帮助我们控制体重和血糖)”可知,步行的好处包括对腿部有益、控制体重。故选B项。
【5题详解】
词句猜测题。根据画线词的下文“which allows you to cycle for hours without getting tired (使你能连续骑行数小时而不疲倦)”可知,能让人长时间骑行且不疲倦的应该是“持久的耐力”,画线词意思应该是“耐力,持久力”。故选D项。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“I have also made many friends during my walks. It’s not uncommon for my 5-mile walk to sometimes take as long as 2 or 3 hours, because I stop to chat with different shop owners along my route. (我也在步行途中结交了许多朋友。我每天5英里的步行路程有时会花上2到3个小时,这并不稀奇,因为我总会停下来和沿途各家店铺的老板们聊聊天)”和最后一段中“I have been invited for lunch, dinner, and sometimes just to sit and drink tea with total strangers. There is nothing more pleasant than walking past a schoolyard and hearing all the kids say hello to me. (我曾多次被陌生人邀请共进午餐、晚餐,有时只是坐下来一起喝茶。最令人愉悦的莫过于经过学校操场时,听到所有孩子都向我问好的时刻)”可知,作者在步行的过程中结交朋友,享受互动,收获愉悦。由此可知,他提到这些经历是为了向我们展示步行的乐趣。故选C项。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“Walking is the best form of exercise. (步行是最佳的运动方式)”和“Walking is also a good way to help you make more friends, bringing chances to see new things and meet new people. (步行也是结交更多朋友的好方法,它能带来见识新事物、结识新朋友的机会)”可知,文章围绕步行的益处展开,从健康和社交两个方面展开论述,表明步行可以帮助控制体重、血糖等,还能让人沿途交友,与他人互动。因此,D项“为健康与社交而步行”最契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选D项。

A few years ago, Casey Harrell was diagnosed with a serious brain disease that left him paralyzed (瘫痪的) and unable to speak. Last year, some scientists put tiny electrodes (电极) into the speech center of his brain. They pick up brainwaves that a computer can convert into words. Today, the 46-year-old man can get his “voice” back.
Using recordings of his voice before his disease, the scientists were able to train an artificial intelligence model. With its model, Harrell now “speaks” through an electronic voice synthesizer (合成器). And thanks to that AI, it sounds similar to the natural voice he once had.
“One of the things that people with my disease suffer from is loneliness,” Harrell says. These individuals don’t feel like they matter anymore. But thanks to this tech, he and others like him might be able to actively participate in society again.
This new technology offers “by far the most accurate speech-decoding (语音解码) ever developed,” says David Brandman, one of the scientists who implanted the devices in Harrell’s brain. “This technology isn’t a mind reader. It can’t listen to someone’s secret thoughts. It only works when the user wants it to.”
Electrical signals from the brain travel along neurons to control the muscles for every movement in the body. Different parts of the brain turn on each time you wave your hand, run or smile. Those electrical signals travel down paths to activate the muscles you want to use. But injury or disease can damage parts of those neural (神经的) paths. This can keep the electrical signals from reaching the muscles needed to move or speak.
Since 2021, Brandman’s team has been working to restore speech through technology known as brain-computer interfaces (接口) or BCIs. BCIs use devices to access brain signals. A computer learns to interpret what the brain signals mean. Later, it can translate those signals into machine movement.
8. What was Harrell’s condition before treatment?
A. He was sad about being blind.
B. He was unable to walk and speak.
C. He had muscle and hearing problems.
D He suffered from serious memory loss.
9. What is the technology’s effect in helping individuals like Casey Harrell?
A. Making them feel lonelier.
B. Replacing their traditional treatment.
C. Enabling them to regain social participation.
D. Allowing them to communicate through writing.
10. What can be learned about the new technology from Paragraph 4?
A. It is reliable. B. It is destructive.
C. It is inaccurate. D. It is uncontrollable.
11. How does Brandman’s team restore speech?
A. By using devices to record words.
B. By using machines to observe mouths.
C. By applying hi-tech to handle brain signals.
D. By applying computers to interpret languages.
B 9. C 10. A 11. C

根据第三段中“But thanks to this tech, he and others like him might be able to actively participate in society again. (但多亏了这项技术,他和其他像他一样的人可能能够再次积极参与社会活动。)”可知,这项技术使像Casey Harrell这样的个体能够重新参与社会活动。故选C。

The post-screening discussion was insightful too — we explored themes like family, heroism, and cultural heritage.
Ms. Pinelli was walking her dog, Boomerang, past our driveway when I told her that it had been barking throughout the afternoon. We assumed it probably saw a squirrel or something.
After school the next day, I was practising the piano when Boomerang started barking again. (No, my piano playing isn’t that bad!) Anyway, it never used to bark when I practiced. Ten minutes later, it was still barking. Jumping up, I decided to play detective instead of the piano. The Pinellis’ trees were small, and I didn’t spot anything that disturbed it in them. The curtains were open, but I couldn’t see Boomerang looking out. I wondered if something was wrong.
After thinking it over, I called Ms. Pinelli at work and told her Boomerang was barking nonstop again. Ms. Pinelli returned immediately and put it into her car and drove off.
Later, after dinner, she dropped by my house and told me that the vet (兽医) had checked it out. Boomerang was fine but it probably missed Leo, Ms. Pinelli’s son. He used to be its playmate but started college in the fall. During our conversation, I knew how Boomerang got its name. It was like a boomerang (飞镖) when playing fetch, running off and then returning with a ball with Leo. To tell the truth, I missed Leo too because he had taught me how to throw a ball in the yard.
We felt bad for the dog and were eager to find a way to help it cope with Leo’s absence. Ms. Pinelli mentioned that she would leave the TV on the next day, hoping that the noise would distract it.
The following day, when I got off the bus, I could hear Boomerang’s barking loud and clear. I rushed to have a check, finding Boomerang pacing back and forth restlessly. Ms. Pinelli was busy with her computer work. She asked me whether I could do her a favor to keep an eye on it for a while. I gladly said, “Yes!”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Then I approached Boomerang.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Then I approached Boomerang. It was pacing around the yard, its eyes darting around an xiously. I knelt down and tried to calm it by petting its head and speaking softly. Its tail wagged slightly in response, but its barks continued. I knew that it was missing Leo deeply and the TV noise wasn't enough to distract it.
Suddenly, its name reminded me how it played with Leo .I remembered the joy on both their faces as they played fetch together, Bomerang always returning the ball with a triumphant bark. A plan formed in my mind. I quickly ran into my house and grabbed a ball. I threw it into the yard and called Boomerang's name. It immediately stopped barking and sprinted towards the ball, bringing it back to me with a happy bark.

D. He suffered from serious memory loss.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
