第一节
The power of cooperation
This picture shows several ants are marching in a neat line beneath a branch. The branch looks much bigger than their bodies. But with their concerted effort, they can carry it.
This scene powerfully illustrates how cooperation creates strength. Individually, ants appear small, but their unity allows them to tackle challenges far beyond their size. It mirrors human experiences: whether in workplaces or communities, collective effort often produces remarkable results. The ants’ orderly progress teaches us that shared goals and teamwork can turn even the tiniest contributions into meaningful achievements. True power, indeed, grows from collaboration.
第二节 读后续写(此范文仅供参考)
During the afternoon hike, Ronnie tripped over a hidden root and hurt his ankle. As he cried in pain, the group gathered around, unsure of what to do. Despite a few metres away, I immediately rushed forward to help him. "Are you okay, Ronnie?" I asked, examining the injured ankle. Ronnie, shocked by my kindness, said hesitantly, "I think so, but I can't put any weight on it." I offered Ronnie a shoulder to lean on, helping him to his feet as the others watched in astonishment. Together, we made our way back to the campsite, supporting Ronnie every step.
At the campsite, Ronnie turned to me, "Thanks, Tim. I... I didn't expect you to help me." "It's no big deal, Ronnie. We're classmates after all." I responded. Upon hearing what I had said, Ronnie was deeply moved and grabbed my hands tightly. Surprised at this sudden turn of events, I managed a smile. Ronnie was ashamed that it had taken him such a long time to realise the impact of his actions. From then on, Ronnie began standing up for me whenever others tried to belittle me. Meanwhile, I regained my confidence, feeling more at ease in class and social activities. As my self-confidence grew, so did our friendship.

附【听力原文】
Text 1
M: Are you going to buy any new clothes this month?
W: No, not yet. The end of the season is always the best time to go clothing shopping. I’m waiting for the prices to go down.
Text 2
M: Concert tickets are 8 dollars for adults, half price for children.
W: OK. I’d like one adult ticket and two children tickets, please.
Text 3
M: I’m thinking about moving out of my place.
W: How come? Is it far from your workplace?
M: No. With three kids growing up and reaching school age, my house is too small.
Text 4
W: Hello? This is Martha White at 274 Bagley Road. I’m having trouble with my TV, and I need someone to help fix it. This is the third time I’ve called!
M: My apologies, Ms White. We will have someone over tomorrow morning at 8 am.
Text 5
M: Are you going to the lecture this afternoon?
W: No, I’m afraid I can’t. I have to go to the library and get some information about American history for my paper.
M: Then I have to change my plan.
Text 6
M: We've finally reached the hotel.
W: Well, Dad, what shall we do tomorrow?
M: We are going to the shopping center. I promised your mom to buy her a beautiful dress.
W: Do you know what color mom likes most?
M: Pink, I think. Maybe yellow.
W: I think she likes bright red.
Text 7
M: Hey, Jane. Do you happen to know where the movie theater is?
W: Yeah. Why do you want to know?
M: Well, on Monday, I asked Jennifer out on a date for this coming Saturday night.
W: Wow. You’ve really been seeing a lot of her lately. Sounds great. Okay, write down these directions so you don’t get lost.
M: Okay, go ahead.
W: First, drive west down Maple Street, cross the river, and keep going straight until Pine Street.
M: Until Pine Street, right?
W: Right. Then turn left, and the movie theater is the second building on the right. It’s next to the church.
M: Second building on the right. Got it. Thanks a lot.
Text 8
M: Hi, Judy. I'd like to celebrate my 18th birthday with some friends this Saturday.

M: Yeah, from now on, I have to take responsibility for my actions. It's really an important day in my life.
W: How do you plan to celebrate it, Mike? In a bar?
M: No, I plan to celebrate it in my home and invite some friends to come over.
W: How about a birthday party? We can buy some balloons to decorate your room and buy some drinks.
M: Sounds fantastic. And maybe we can prepare some food all by ourselves and make a salad.
W: That's a sign you've become a grown-up.
M: You bet. Well, on Saturday morning, I'll order a birthday cake. Then, I'll go shopping in the supermarket. On that afternoon I'll decorate my room.
W: I will help you.
Text 9
W: Good morning, Steve. Where are you going so early on a Saturday?
M: I’m going to my driver’s education course. Aren’t you taking it?
W: No, I’m not. Should I be?
M: You’d better if you want to have your driver’s license when you turn 16 a few months from now.
W: Is that so? In my state when you’re 16, you just take the written examination and pass the road test. You don’t have to take a special course.
M: Here if you want your license at 16 or before you’re 18 years old, you have to go through a driver’s education course.
W: I’m glad you told me. I was simply going to ask my parents to teach me how to drive. I’ll register for driver’s education right away.
Text 10
W: Good morning, everyone. I’d like to talk about reading today. There are two things that you should do before reading a passage. One is to consider your reason for reading. Are you reading only for the pleasure? Or are you reading to search for some facts? Your purpose should decide how you read. Secondly, you should think about what the passage will tell you. What do you already know about that topic? This will help you to have a better understanding of the passage you are preparing to read. When you are ready to read, you should begin by skimming the passage, that is, read quickly through the passage. In doing so, you should pay attention to the title and note the key words. While skimming, you should always make a note of the topic sentence of each paragraph. The topic sentence often contains the main idea of the paragraph. Once skimming is done, you should read through the passage in more detail.

A few years back,I was leaving the animal shelter where I worked only to find a
baby goat at the end of the driveway. The shelter's owners are known animal rescuers,
and I figured someone had dropped him over the fence. The kid was visibly nervous but
stood perfectly still as I approached.
I'm an animal lover and I've brought home dogs, cats, horses, and chickens, but
never a goat. The tiny kid was too adorable to resist.I named him Rocky, and with the
help of some experienced friends,bottle-fed him in my bathroom.
高二英语第4页(共12页)
Rocky proved to be quite intelligent. When he was about a week old,I knocked on
the bathroom floor and said"lie down".I was astonished when he dropped down.I was
even more amazed when he did it three times in a row.
A quick study!Rocky learned to lie down, bow, and turn in a circle in no time.He is
house-trained,jumps in the back of my car when I say "load up",and spends the day
wandering with my dogs, whom he considers his fellow group. He knows the name of
everything I feed him,and even joins us for trips to the dog park.
I love to train animals and often take my dogs to shows where they can perform
their tricks.Rocky did his first show when he was just six weeks old.He knew only a
few tricks then, but he did them perfectly and never misbehaved or got nervous in front
of the crowd.
Now he has a whole inventory ()he'll come when called, walk on a string,
wave, smile for the camera("Say cheese!"),and more.Rocky and my dogs perform
regularly at schools,nursing homes,and charity events.Rocky can even "read"his
tricks off cards, which always earns the most applause.
It's hard to believe that the baby goat nobody wanted turned out to be one of the
smartest and most good-natured animals I've ever had. He's by far the sharpest of my
bunch-just don't tell the dogs!
24.How did the author acquire Rocky?
A.He bought him from a pet store.
B.He received him from a shelter owner.
C.He saw him inside the shelter building.
D.He found him abandoned near his workplace.
25.What first demonstrated Rocky's intelligence at one week old?
A.Playing with the narrator's dogs.
B.Jumping into the car on command.
C.Recognizing different foods by name.
D.Obeying the“lie down”command repeatedly.
26.What does Rocky's view of the dogs as"his fellow group"imply?
A.He sees them as his protective family group.
B.He increasingly dominates the dogs.
C.He competes with them for food.
D.He fears them and avoids interaction.
高二英语第5页(共12页)
27.Which receives"the most applause"during performances?
A.Smiling for the camera.
B.Waving at the audience.
C.Walking perfectly on a string.
D.Performing tricks by reading cards.
C
Even if you don't worry that artificial intelligence(AI)will destroy the human race,
you might concern that its fearsome appetite for electricity will destroy the environment.
Asking ChatGPT a question means using ten times more energy than an old-fashioned
search inquiry.Google's greenhouse-gas emissions()rose by nearly half between
2019 and 2023,as the AI boom took off;Microsoft's have been up by almost 30%since
2020.With huge investments in new data centres planned, more rises seem to happen.
But the spread of such pessimistic sentiments(悲观情绪)is inappropriate. In absolute
terms,AI may be less energy-hungry than many people assume.Better still,AI can help
remove carbon from the industries that have proved hardest to clean up.
Consider AI's appetite for energy first. The International Energy Agency(IEA)
thinks that electricity consumption by data centres could as much as triple()in the
next five years.Even if energy usage soars, though, the base is still low.Data centres
today account for about 1.5%of the world's electricity consumption-and the vast
majority of that is due to streaming, social media and online shopping, not Al.
Moreover, some of AI's electricity use will help with greening the economy. As
we explain in this week's Science technology section,AI excels at identifying complex
patterns, processing giant data sets and upgrading systems, all of which can help reduce
emissions.AI is already helping improve the efficiency of electrical networks, cut fuel
use in shipping and spot otherwise invisible leaks of methane,a powerful greenhouse
gas.
The task for policymakers and industry bosses is to maximize such benefits while
minimizing the climate impacts. The most elegant solution would be for governments
to impose a proper price on carbon and leave the market to do its work.
28.What is the author's main argument regarding AI's energy consumption?
A.Governments must immediately stop AI development.
B.AI will cause environmental disaster to the human race.
C.Current concerns about AI's energy impact are overstated.
D.Streaming services and social media pose greater threats than Al.
29.What does the underlined word"soars"in paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A.Increases quickly.
B.Looks normal.
C.Falls sharply.
D.Comes easily.
高二英语第6页(共12页)》
30.How does AI help to reduce emissions?
A.By shutting down high-pollution factories.
B.By developing new carbon capture technologies.

Around 1745,Chinese emperor and poet Qianlong was sailing on the Yangtze
River toward Zhenjiang when he encountered a breathtaking sight:a group of Yangtze
finless porpoises()emerged from the water's surface. He wrote a poem about it.
"Porpoises chased moonlight on silvered tides,as dragons summoned storm-clouds
loom in sight..”
Almost 300 years later, scientists wanted to chart the historical range of this
critically endangered animal,so they searched hundreds of ancient Chinese poems to seek
mentions of it,hoping to map its historical distribution()and thus better understand
threats to this species. The Yangtze finless porpoises, the world's only freshwater
porpoises, are found in China's Yangtze River.About 1,250 individuals are left in the
wild.
"Having access to past data allows us to detect when declines began and relate
those changes to potential threats like habitat destruction, climate change, overhunting,
disease or the introduction of invasive species,"says Yaoyao Zhang,an ecologist at the
Institute of Hydrobiology,Chinese Academy of Sciences.Zhang and her team turned to
ancient poems because official records rarely mentioned these animals."Using an online
database of Chinese literature,we searched for various historical names of the Yangtze
finless porpoise across dynastic poetry, confirming each mention to ensure it referred to
the porpoise and not other animals,"Zhang says.
The research, published on Monday in Current Biology, revealed 724 poems that
mentioned the porpoises.Half contained information about where they were seen. This
window into the past revealed that the porpoises'range has decreased by around 65
percent over 1,400 years, with a rapid decline in the past century.Poems from the distant

past mentioned these animals living in tributaries()and lakes along the Yangtze,
but in more recent poems, these references dramatically decreased.
This study builds on previous examples ofusing historical texts to understand species
distributions and human-caused biodiversity losses.Next, the research team plans to
further analyze the collected poems for more information about the past environment
and porpoise groups.
32.Why did scientists study ancient Chinese poems?
A.To analyze Qianlong's poetry about natural phenomena.
B.To track historical distribution of Yangtze finless porpoises.
C.To prove ancient poems are more reliable than official records.
D.To promote public awareness of freshwater species conservation.
33.What is special about Yangtze finless porpoises?
A.They were first documented in Chinese ancient poetry.
B.They are the only freshwater porpoises in the world.
C.They began to drop in number 1,400 years ago.
D.They can survive in both rivers and seawater.
34.How did researchers ensure the accuracy of porpoise references in poems?
A.By focusing on poems only from the Qing Dynasty.
B.By comparing poetry records with modern sightings.
C.By checking historical names and dropping other animals.
D.By working together with literature experts worldwide.
35.What does the research on ancient poems show?
A.The number of Yangtze finless porpoises is increasing.
B.The range of porpoises has decreased significantly.
C.Climate change caused the most rapid decline.
D.Official records contained more location data.

36 Before attending any social event, ask yourself:"Does this agree with my
values?”or“Will this help me grow?”Ifyou're attending just out of obligation(义务),
it's likely an unworthy commitment.Psychologists suggest that 70%of social tiredness
comes from activities we didn't genuinely want to join.
Quality Over Quantity.Having hundreds of so-called friends doesn't equal true
connection.37 A Cambridge University study shows that people with 3-5 deep
friendships report higher life satisfaction than those with dozens of so-called ones.
Invest time in relationships that inspire growth each other.
Master the Art of Saying No.The fear of missing out often pushes us into unwanted
gatherings.38 Politely declining invitations with simple statements like "I have
other priorities'”is perfectly acceptable.Remember,,every“yes”to others is a“no”to
yourself.
