DQomolangma, also known as Mount Everest,is the
highest mountain in the world. It's a part of Himalayas. In
1975,Chinese scientists measured()that Mount
Qomolangma was 8,848.13 meters high.In 2005,another
group of Chinese researchers found the height of Qomolangma was 8,844.43 meters.
Later in December 2020,a Chinese survey()team re-measured it and got the
latest number 8,848.86.And we know the height of the mountain can change all the
time. That's why scientists never stop setting out to the top of the mountain for the further
study.
2In fact, measuring the height of Qomolangma is more than just getting one
exact number.Mount Qomolangma is at the point where the Eurasian plate(
meets the Indian plate. It formed from an ocean 38 million years ago as the two
plates hit each other.Changes in the height can show whether the two plates are
heading toward or away from each other. This can help us understand the movement
of the earth's crust().The survey team will also get first-hand information about
environmental conditions at the top of the mountain. This will help us know more about the
climate changes on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau().
3However,it is not an easy task to work there. The air temperature on the
mountain is usually -26'C or so in May,the snow there is 3~5 meters thick and
powerful winds blow all the time.In such bad conditions, surveying drones()
cannot work at the top of the mountain,so it's still necessary to send human experts
to the top to get exact results.

Have you always wanted to learn an instrument?Would you like to introduce
your friends to instrument lessons and help them start building a lifetime of music?
In many cultures, music is an important part of people's ways of life.People may
make music as a hobby, like a teenager playing the violin in a youth
orchestra(管弦乐队),or work as a professional musician or a singer..
But why is music so important? That may be because music can train children's
brains.Every time you listen to a piece of music, you're actually giving yourself a deep and
full-brain workout. If the brain is a muscle(),then learning to play an instrument
and read music is the basic exercise. Two new studies show that music training can change
both the brain's white matter(),which carries signals through the brain, and grey
matter(灰质),which covers most of the brain's neurons(神经元)that are active in
processing information.Another reason is that one can get the joy of learning to play an
instrument later in life.People of any age can learn to play and get a level of satisfaction.
More people in their 50s and 60s are finding that taking up a musical instrument or singing
improves their lives in many ways.
Music education can provide more than just learning how to sing or play an
instrument. It can also provide different skills that people may need for success in a
job outside of music. So forget apps and learn a musical instrument to train your
brain now!
()25.What can teenagers do to make music as a hobby?
A.Play an instrument in a youth orchestra.
B.Play instruments which they used to play.
C.Help their friends build a lifetime of music.
()26.How can music train children's brains?
A.By changing the brain's white matter only.
B.By giving them a deep and full-brain exercise.
C.By sending signals through the brain's grey matter.
()27.What does the underlined word "signals"in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.News.
B.Stories.
C.Messages.
()28.What can we learn from the text?
A.Instruments don't play a role in social or cultural activities.
B.People of any age can learn to play music and gain satisfaction.
C.Music education can only provide how to sing or play an instrument.

阅读下面短文,从短文后框内选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有
一项为多余选项。
A.But do you know the use of eggshells?
B.What else do you know about eggshells?
C.But the scientists didn't test the "eggshell bones".
D.The molds looked like small pieces of beehives()
E.This allows bones to grow faster and become stronger.
F.Some scientists have already tested the "eggshell bones"on mice.
②热点素材When we eat eggs,we usually throw
away eggshells().29.In a new study,a group of US
scientists from the University of Massachusetts Lowell
found that eggshells were of great use. They used them to
help broken bones(骨头)to get better.
The scientists first crushed()eggshells and mixed them with other things.
They then put the glue-like mix into a 3D printer to make small molds().30.
When they put cells()of a person's bones on these molds, the cells grew very
quickly.This surprised the scientists greatly.
This is because eggshells have many minerals(f矿物质)in them, such as
calcium. These minerals can provide "food"for the cells, scientists told Medical
News Today.31.
If someone loses a bone, doctors can put the "eggshell bones"into the person's
body.Because they're grown from the person's cells, they will work better.
32.They worked well.Also,thanks to 3D printing,scientists were able to
create molds in different shapes. This makes it possible for our teeth to be repaired
in the same way.
