There are very few countries in the world that don’t have some sort of legend (传说) or connect ion with dragons. Here are some great destinations to get a fi x on dragon.
France
Calais in France has a dragon standing 33 feet tall, 82 feet long, with a wingspan of more than 55 feet. It walks and moves as you would imagine a dragon does, and you can take it for a ride. The Calais dragon is a mechanical wonder, which is nearly too real to be called a fairground creature.
Wales
In the UK, you will find a proud dragon country, Wales. Here there is the legend of two dragons: one white and one red. Wales’ tale describes the two dragons fighting and the red one winning, so you will find it difficult to hurry about the country without coming across a red dragon. Dragons are sold in souvenir shops, sit by ancient castles, hang around in King Arthur’s Labyrinth, and are featured on the national flag.
Norway
The Vikings knew a thing or two about dragons. In the lovely film How to Train Your Dragon, they even flew them. But seriously, when you dig into Norway’s Viking history and legends, you will find dragons mentioned everywhere, though not as cute as those in the film. From the figurehead in the Viking Ship Museum to jewelry, and decorations on buildings, be on the lookout for them when visiting Norway.
Bhutan
The Druk or Thunder Dragon, is the national symbol and appears everywhere. The country is called Land of the Thunder Dragon, or Kingdom of Druk, and it’s part of the national anthem (国歌) and its flag. Despite its fearful name, it’s actually rather cute. The legend has it that the sound of thunder through the mountain s is actually the dragon roaring.
21. What can we learn about the Calais dragon?
A. It’s a character from a popular film. B. It’s a creation designed for entertainment.
C. It’s a real creature trained for rides. D. It’s a sculpture displayed in a museum.
22. What do Wales and Bhutan have in common on dragons?
A. They feature dragons on their flags. B. They include dragons in their anthems.
C. They have a legend of two dragons. D. They describe dragons as cute images.
23. Which country associates dragons with a natural phenomenon?
A. France. B. Wales. C. Norway. D. Bhutan.

“I know I can’t change a person or the choices they make. However, having the capacity to make a difference in the life of not one, but many, is something I desire to,” says 19-year-old Amatulah Vahanwalla.
Evidently she walks the talk. It all began in November 2015, when Amatulah and Jaju, Class XI students, were discussing their community service project. Niharika told Amatulah about her first hair donation experience at the age of nine and that she was eager to do it again. This set off a chain of brainstorming sessions, and they came up with a hair donation drive—Hair for Happiness (HH). The proceeds (收益) of the campaign go to the Little Prince Trust, a British non-profit that helps create wigs made from real hair for children suffering from hair loss due to illness. “Painstaking research goes into finding physical treatments for serious diseases. However, it makes me sad that people who are suffering are treated like numbers on a graph, nothing more and nothing less,” says Niharika.
Motivation for helping a child regain self-esteem helped them overcome obstacles. Initially, all the hair donation organizations only accepted longer strands (12 to 13 inches) of untreated hair. “But the Little Princess Trust (LPT) had a minimum requirement of seven inches of hair to make wigs and donate wigs,” says Amatulah. This opened up a bigger door for cooperation.
However, another struggle was to find enough donors. Through promotions in schools, departments, as well as salons like Cracle, and reaching out to volunteer hairstylists, they eventually made it. Since the initiative was consistent with their social responsibility goals, some companies provided funds by covering the cost for larger drives.
“I think the moment I finally realized the significance of our creation was when we crossed 100 donations,” says Niharika. This, when they assumed it would take a “miracle to reach even 10 donations”.
24. What upset Niharika according to paragraph 2?
A. The lack of hair donors. B. The ignorance of human-centered care.
C. The imbalance of medical resources. D. The overemphasis on medical treatment.
25. What fostered the partnership between HH and LPT?
A. LPT’s less demanding conditions. B. LPT’s established reputation.
C. HH’s pressing need for hair. D. HH’s constant innovation.
26. Why did some companies sponsor the project?
A. To enhance corporate image. B. To strengthen bonds between schools.
C. To spread awareness of charity. D. To fulfill their mission of public welfare.
27. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Girl Power: From 10 to 100
B. Niharika’s Growth: Make a Difference
C. Hair for Happiness: From Idea to Impact
D. Teens in Action: Hair Donation and Beyond

A new global review of data from the Spanish study found that increasing the number of daily steps, even at low levels, was associated with a reduction in depressive symptoms (症状). Researchers led by Jimenez-Lopez, of the University of Castile-La Mancha, noted there’s already solid evidence that exercise of any kind is a natural antidepressant. But what about something as easy as walking? To find out, they looked at data from high-quality studies on daily step counts and their links to mental health.
The new review covered 33 studies with a total of more than 96,000 adults worldwide, including those who used fitness-tracker devices to calculate their daily steps. Compared to a baseline of 5,000 steps taken per day, folks who took even 1,000 more steps daily saw a 9% drop in their chances for developing depression, the researchers found. Those benefits quickly mounted up. Compared to folks walking 5,000 steps per day or less, those who walked 7,000 steps per day had 31% lower odds for depression. “In addition, counts above 7,500 steps per day were associated with a 43% lower frequency of depression,” Jimenez-Lopez and colleagues wrote, and those trends held true for “all age groups, females and males.”
There did seem to be a leveling out of mental health benefits at about 10,000 steps per day, the data showed. As has been observed in studies on physical health, up to a level of about 10,000 steps per day causes the chances for depression to decline. However, the researchers revealed that increasing the number of steps beyond this point may not have been associated with a significant reduction in depressive symptoms.
Furthermore, the new findings add walking to many other forms of physical activity – weight training, yoga and even tai chi – as ways to help prevent depression.
“Setting goals for the number of daily steps can be a rewarding and inclusive public health strategy for the prevention of depression,” the study suggested.
28. What can be inferred about the Spanish study from paragraph 1?
A. It centers on depression patients. B. It confirms the advantages of walking.
C. It contradicts former study results. D. It looks into evidence of taking exercise.
29. How is Paragraph 2 developed?
A. By giving examples. B. By following a timeline.
C. By analyzing causes. D. By making a comparison.
30. What is likely to happen after walking over 10,000 steps per day?
A. Risks of other diseases drop sharply. B. Benefits stop increasing significantly.
C. Physical health improves dramatically. D. Depression symptoms disappear totally.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards the strategy of setting goals for daily step counts?
A Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Indifferent.
D
In a drawing room in rural Oxfordshire, an artist slowly and deliberately puts pen to paper. Her arm moves across the canvas, the marks gradually integrating into a portrait of herself. It seems like a moment of creative expression. But this is no ordinary artist — she is the world’s first humanoid robot artist, Ai-Da. By design, her very existence brings into question how we define art, and who, or in this case, what, can create it.
Will AI algorithms (算法) and robots like Ai-Da mean the end of human creativity and artistry, or can they strengthen our own creative potential? When Marcel Duchamp proposed that a urinal (小便池) be considered art, he flipped the art world on its head. In much the same way, AI-created artworks are changing the standards of the art world, because both were controversial and contain objects that haven’t technically been created by an “artist’s” hand.
Someone argues that a humanoid artist like Ai-Da represents society’s current fears — the rise of job-stealing AI algorithms and potential robot domination. But technological revolutions like artificial intelligence don’t necessarily mean the “end of art” as many fear. Instead, they can help to kickstart an artistic transformation and move us towards different ways of seeing and creating. “AI might kick us into being creative again as humans,” says mathematician Du Sautoy, who sees it as a powerful partner in the pursuit of human creativity.
However, questions of authorship haunt the artificial intelligence story. Artists Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst co-founded Spawning AI, which aimed at empowering human creators to prohibit AI from using their works. But there are also artists who see AI as a new outlet for their own creativity. Some artists are now even training algorithms in an attempt to push their own creative boundaries.
It’s clear that AI algorithms and machines like Ai-Da are having an impact on the art world. Their works are exhibited alongside more traditional forms of art worldwide. Next year we’ll see the world’s first AI art gallery open its doors in LA. Eva Jäger, the creative AI lead, is also helping to bring AI art to the masses, with a programme of exhibitions leading to critical discussion about the impact of technology on art. She sees the cooperation between human and machine as a space for real creative potential.
32. What does the phrase “flipped the art world on its head” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Dominated the art world. B. Overturned the art standards.
C. Broadened artists’ horizons. D. Recognized artists’ wisdom.
33. What influence will Ai-Da generate on the art world according to Du Sautoy?
A. It will increase the commercial value. B. It will replace human artists soon.
C. It may boost human creativity. D. It may cause fears in artists.
34. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A. Spawning AI helps human artists use AI works.
B. Some artists train AI to work for them.
C. AI art gallery will win over more visitors.
D. Eva Jäger looks favorably to the future of AI.
35. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To argue that AI will eventually outperform human artists.
B. To promote the idea that artworks created by AI lack value.
C. To explore the impact of AI on art definition and creativity.
D. To record the history of art movements and their significance.

As a forest ranger (护林员), I was making an inspection tour as usual on a misty dawn. Boots sank into the damp path, each step breaking the deep quiet of the ancient woodland. As I adjusted the camera trap on a trunk, its lens (镜头) was still covered with raindrops from last night. Suddenly, a weak crying sound cut through the fog.
Pushing through wet bushes, I stopped instantly. There, in the shallow muddy river, lay an elephant calf (幼崽). Its reddish-brown fur was dirty with mud. The calf’s back leg was trapped unnaturally beneath a messy pile of old wire netting — the kind illegal woodcutters used to mark territories. Old metal pieces were cruel marks of humans in this wild nature reserve. His dark brown eyes locked onto mine, and unexpectedly my normal forest check became a fight against time.
The calf struggled with little strength, and its leg got stuck tighter in the sharp metal wires every time he moved. I thought of Professor Liang, an expert in wildlife protection, who once said, “For endangered species, humans are both threat and hope.” Therefore, I carefully opened my field work-box. The scissors felt tiny as I tried to cut the wires. One wrong move could hurt the calf. Just as I started cutting, a roar came from the fog.
Behind me, the bushes shook violently. Out of the mist came an adult elephant, with ears flapping (拍打) like a storm cloud. She stopped ten steps away, strong muscles tense under gray skin. The morning sunlight cast the mother’s shadow over the trapped calf. We formed a tense triangle — human, mother and calf — bound by fear. A sharp cry of a bird cut through the tension. Its black wings broke the quiet, as if nature itself was watching this delicate moment.

W: I did. It was a lovely family restaurant in Athens and they were looking for someone who could speak English to help with the customers. They’ve got children who can speak it, but they weren’t around over the summer, so they employed me.
M: So that paid for your holiday then.
W: Most of it yes. It was perfect for me as they only wanted me to work there during the week. That meant I could visit the islands at the week end. I used to catch the boat on Friday evening, have two nights on an island somewhere and then get back on Sunday night ready for work.

W: Thank you for listening to MZ morning traffic with Julie Park. City tunnel is backed up almost 10 miles because a truck went out of control and crashed into the back of a car. The police are already at the scene, but it will take at least another hour. So if you’re on highway 95, I would recommend the Route 65 instead of the tunnel.
According to the weather report, there will be a snowstorm at noon, so please use extra caution because the roads will be slippery and as the temperature goes down this afternoon, the conditions will get worse. Here is another reminder that on Friday, the blue line train to DuPont Circle will be delayed for 30 minutes due to railway condition changes.
I recommend the passengers take the red line train first. And change to the blue line at East River Station. Be sure to pick up your free pass at the customer service desk before you board the red line. This Saturday, Central Bridge will reopen after two weeks of construction. Stay tuned. I’ll be right back soon with more detailed information about Central Bridge.

Evidently, she walks the talk.
26 Why did some companies sponsor the project?
A. To enhance corporate image. B. To strengthen bonds between schools.
C. To spread awareness of charity. D. To fulfill their mission of public welfare.
27. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Girl Power: From 10 to 100

根据第四段“Since the initiative was consistent with their social responsibility goals, some companies provided funds by covering the cost for larger drives.(由于该倡议与他们的社会责任目标一致,一些公司通过承担更大规模活动的费用来提供资金)” 可知,一些公司赞助这个项目是为了履行他们的公益使命。故选D。

A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Indifferent.
B 29. D 30. B 31. C

根据第一段中“A new global review of data from the Spanish study found that increasing the number of daily steps, even if at modest levels, was associated with a reduction in depressive symptoms (症状). (一项对西班牙研究数据的全球新评估发现,增加每日步数,即使是适度增加,也与抑郁症状的减少有关)”可知,西班牙研究发现适度增加每日步数与抑郁症状的减少有关,由此可知,该研究证实了步行的益处。故选B。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“ Compared to a baseline of 5,000 steps taken per day, folks who took even 1,000 more steps daily saw a 9% drop in their chances for developing depression, the researchers found. Those benefits quickly mounted up. Compared to folks walking 5,000 steps per day or less, those who walked 7,000 steps per day had 31% lower odds for depression. “In addition, counts above 7,500 steps per day were associated with a 43% lower frequency of depression,” Jimenez-Lopez and colleagues wrote, and those trends held true for “all age groups, females and males.”(研究人员发现,与每天仅走5000步的基准相比,每天多走1000步的人患抑郁症的几率降低了9%。这些益处迅速累积起来。与每天步行5000步或更少的人相比,每天步行7000步的人患抑郁症的几率降低了31%。吉梅内斯-洛佩斯及其同事写道:“此外,每天步行超过7500步与抑郁症发作频率降低 43%有关。”而且这些趋势在“所有年龄段、女性和男性”中都成立)”可知,第二段通过进行比较展开论述。故选D。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“As has been observed in studies on mental health, up to a level of about 10,000 steps per day causes the chances for depression to decline. However, the researchers revealed that increasing the number of steps beyond this point may not lead to a significant reduction in depressive symptoms. (正如心理健康研究中所观察到的,每天步数达到约10000步会使患抑郁症的几率下降。然而,研究人员透露,超过这个步数可能不会显著减轻抑郁症状)”可知,每天走超过10000步时,抑郁症状减轻不明显,即益处不再显著增加。故选B。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段““Setting goals for the number of daily steps can be a rewarding and inclusive public health strategy for the prevention of depression,” the study suggested.( 该研究指出:“设定每日步数的目标是一种有益且具有包容性的公共健康策略,有助于预防抑郁症。”)”

根据文章第二段“In much the same way, AI-created artworks are changing the standards of the art world, because both were controversial and contain objects that haven’t technically been created by an“ artist’s” hand. (同样,人工智能创作的艺术品正在改变艺术界的标准,因为它们都是有争议的,而且包含的物品在技术上并不是由“艺术家”的手创作的)”可知,人工智能创作的艺术品正在改变艺术界的标准,结合“In much the same way”可知,此处指的是当马塞尔·杜尚提出将小便池视为艺术时,他彻底改变了艺术的标准,所以划线部分意思是“彻底改变了艺术的标准”符合语境。故选B。

【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Next year we’ll see the world’s first AI art gallery open its doors in LA. Eva Jäger, the creative AI lead, is also helping to bring AI art to the masses, with a programme of exhibitions leading to critical discussion about the impact of technology on art. She sees the cooperation between human and machine as a space for real creative potential. (明年,我们将在洛杉矶见证世界上第一家AI艺术馆开馆。创意AI负责人伊娃·贾格尔正通过一系列展览将AI艺术带给大众,这些展览引发了关于技术对艺术影响的深刻讨论。她认为,人类与机器的合作是释放真正创造力的潜在空间)”可知,她觉得人与机器之间的合作是释放真正创造力的潜在空间。由此可知,Eva对AI的未来持积极态度。故选D。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“By design, her very existence brings into question how we define art, and who, or in this case, what, can create it. (通过设计,她的存在本身就引发了我们如何定义艺术以及谁,或者在这种情况下,什么可以创造艺术的问题)”以及下文介绍的AI在艺术领域的应用及其对艺术世界的影响可推知,作者写作的目的是探讨AI对艺术定义和创造力的影响。故选C。

【答案】 The Power of Museums
As shown in the chart, we can see that there has been an increasing number of people visiting museums in the last decade.
It is worth analyzing the phenomenon that museum attendance has doubled. To begin with, museums, as one of the main approaches to preserve collections ranging from antiques to modern artifacts, document social transformation of social life and narrate those stories without words. Secondly, as exhibitions are diverse, museums cater to people from almost all walks of life and ages, allowing visitors to find displays that align with their interests. Additionally, visiting museums and engaging in their exhibitions not only can people’s lives be enriched, but also broaden their knowledge and perspectives.
As far as I am concerned, museums play a crucial role in our society, and it’s high time we made visiting them a part of our leisure activities.

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
The mother elephant took a step forward, her eyes never leaving me.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hours later, I watched the mother elephant and her calf from a distance through cameras.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The mother elephant took a step forward, her eyes never leaving me. I stood still, my heart pounding wildly. She approached cautiously and gently nudged the calf with her trunk. The trapped leg was now even more tightly caught in the wires. I knew I had to do something fast. With trembling hands, I resumed cutting the wires, all the while keeping an eye on the mother elephant. To my relief, she seemed to sense my intention and remained calm. After what felt like an eternity, the last piece of wire fell away, freeing the calf’s leg.
Hours later, I watched the mother elephant and her calf from a distance through cameras. They were walking slowly but steadily towards the heart of the forest. The calf occasionally stumbled, but the mother was always there to support him. Seeing them disappear into the greenery, a wave of emotion washed over me. This encounter reminded me of the delicate balance between humans and wildlife. We have the power to destroy, but also the ability to heal. As long as we choose hope over threat, there will always be a chance for coexistence.
