根据第一段“The Community Garden Program (CGP) engages teenagers in environmental conservation through hands-on activities to empower them as environmentally aware citizens. Participants will team up to plant vegetables, maintain green spaces, and learn sustainable practices.(社区花园计划(CGP)通过动手活动让青少年参与环境保护,使他们成为具有环保意识的公民。参与者将组队种植蔬菜,维护绿地,并学习可持续发展的做法)”可知,CGP的重点是生态责任。故选C项。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据Requirements for Participation下的“-Tasks: Activities include soil preparation, composting (堆肥), planting native species, and organizing community workshops on sustainability.(-任务:活动包括准备土壤,堆肥,种植本地物种,组织可持续发展社区讲习班)”可知,CGP参与者需要组织可持续发展社区讲习班。 Confirmation: Participants receive a confirmation email with a unique ID after passing a brief environmental awareness quiz.(确认:参与者在通过一个简短的环保意识测试后,会收到一封带有唯一ID的确认邮件)”可知,接受与否取决于能否通过测试。故选B项。 B I am Maria Martignoni. When I completed a doctoral program in mathematical biology, I wasn’t sure where I saw my career going. But satisfying my curiosity for knowledge as a postdoc seemed more exciting. The problem was what to do afterward. When people would ask me, “What would you like to do next?” and I had no answer to give and began to worry. My research was fun, but I doubted it could ever be useful. My peers (同辈) asked sharp questions during academic discussions. I could not get rid of the feeling that I was just pretending. It was only during my third postdoc that I experienced a change of attitude. It happened after I volunteered to co-lead a group of scientists writing a perspective piece about what future research was needed in our field. The senior researchers on the team commented that, although the draft still needed some significant changes, it was suitable for submission to a high-impact journal. This statement changed my attitude. Clearly, they saw me as knowledgeable and competent. Maybe I needed to value my own professional skills a little more highly? I decided to do my best to improve the article — spending more than a year reading dozens of papers, leading group discussions, and editing the article. The process was long and dull. But the more time I devoted to it, the more knowledge I gained, and the more confident I grew. Ultimately, I landed a tenure-track position. When students ask me for advice, I usually tell them that one does not need to have a clear life plan to belong in science. Many know from the start that they want to be researchers. But for others the path to being a scientist unfolds gradually, with uncertainties along the way. As researchers, part of our mission involves finding our way without always knowing where we are going. By the way, always keep in mind that it is self-trust that counts. 4. What made the author feel anxious? A. Laughter from her peers. B. Uselessness of her major. C. Uncertainty of her future. D. Distance from her dreams. 5. Why did the author shift her attitude? A. She acquired respect from others. B. Teammates gave practical advice. C. She finished the essay quickly. D. Teammates praised her draft. 6. What does the author suggest students do? A. Have an obvious life direction. B. Seek for careers like explorers. C. Neglect worldly labels bravely. D. Stick to original choices firmly. 7. What is the suitable title for the text? A. How I found my confidence as a scientist B. How I regained my curiosity for research C. How I sensed the meaning of persistence D. How I achieved in mathematical biology 【答案】4. C 5. D 6. B 7. 根据第一段中“When people would ask me, “What would you like to do next?” and I had no answer to give and began to worry. (当人们问我“你接下来想做什么?”时,我无法回答,并且开始为此担忧。)”可知,让作者感到焦虑的是她对未来的不确定性。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“The senior researchers on the team commented that, although the draft still needed some significant changes, it was suitable for submission to a high-impact journal. This statement changed my attitude. Clearly, they saw me as knowledgeable and competent. Maybe I needed to value my own professional skills a little more highly? (团队中的资深研究人员评价说,尽管这篇草稿仍需要做一些重大修改,但它适合提交给一份高影响力的期刊。这番话改变了我的态度。很明显,他们认为我知识渊博且有能力。也许我需要更高地评价自己的专业技能?)”可知,作者的态度发生了转变是因为队友对她的文章草稿的赞扬。故选D。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“When students ask me for advice, I usually tell them that one does not need to have a clear life plan to belong in science. Many know from the start that they want to be researchers. But for others the path to being a scientist unfolds gradually, with uncertainties along the way. As researchers, part of our mission involves finding our way without always knowing where we are going. 和第二段中“The senior researchers on the team commented that, although the draft still needed some significant changes, it was suitable for submission to a high-impact journal. This statement changed my attitude. Clearly, they saw me as knowledgeable and competent. Maybe I needed to value my own professional skills a little more highly? (团队中的资深研究人员评价说,尽管这篇草稿仍需要做一些重大修改,但它适合提交给一份高影响力的期刊。这番话改变了我的态度。很明显,他们认为我知识渊博且有能力。也许我需要更高地评价自己的专业技能?)”可知,作者通过自己的经历,讲述了在科学领域中,如何从对未来的不确定和焦虑中逐渐找到自信,并最终获得稳定职位的过程。结合选项可知,A选项“How I found my confidence as a scientist (我是如何找到作为科学家的自信的)”最符合文章主旨,最适合作为文章的标题。故选A。 C On average, American kids ages 3 to 12 spent 29 hours a week in school, eight hours more than they did in 1981. They also did more household work and participated in more of such organized activities as soccer and ballet. Involvement in sports, in particular, rose almost 50% from 1981 to 1997: boys now spend an average of four hours a week playing sports; girls log hall that time. All in all, however, children’s leisure time dropped from 40% of the day in 1981 to 25%. “Children are affected by the same time crunch that affects their parents,” says Sandra Hofferth, who headed the recent study of children’s timetable. A chief reason, she says, is that more mothers are working outside the home. (Nevertheless, children in both double-income and “male breadwinner” households spent comparable amounts of time interacting with their parents 19 hours and 22 hours respectively. In contrast, children spent only 9 hours with their single mothers.) All work and no play could make for some very messed-up kids. “Play is the most powerful way a child explores the world and learns about himself,” says T. Berry Brazelton, professor at Harvard Medical School Unstructured play encourages independent thinking and allows the young to negotiate their relationships with their peers, but kids ages 3 to 12 spent only 12 hours a week engaged in it. The children sampled spent a quarter of their rapidly decreasing “free time” watching television. But that, believe it or not, was one of the findings parents might regard as good news. If they’re spending less time in front of the TV set, however, kids aren’t replacing it with reading. Despite efforts to get kids more interested in books, the children spent just over an hour a week reading. Let’s face it, who’s got the time? 8. What does the underlined phrase “the same time crunch” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. Children have little time to play with their parents. B. Both parents and children suffer from lack of leisure time. C. Children are not taken good care of by their working parents. D. Both parents and children have trouble managing their time. 9. In the author’s opinion, a child develops better if . A. he has plenty of time reading and studying B. he is free to interact with his working parents C. he is left to play with his peers in his own way D. he has more time participating in school activities 10. What does the author worry about American kids? A. They are increasingly ignored by their working mothers. B. They are engaged in more and more structured activities. C. They are spending more and more time watching TV. D. They are involved less and less in household work. 11. What can we conclude from the text? A. Extracurricular activities promote children’s intelligence. B. Most parents believe reading to be beneficial to children. C. Efforts to get kids interested in reading have been fruitful. D. Most children will turn to reading with TV sets switched off. 【答案】8 B 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段中“All in all, however, children’s leisure time dropped from 40% of the day in 1981 to 25%.(然而,总的来说,儿童的休闲时间从1981年的40%下降到了25%) ”;第二段中“A chief reason, she says, is that more mothers are working outside the home.(她说,一个主要原因是越来越多的母亲在外工作)”以及“In contrast, children spent only 9 hours with their single mothers.(相比之下,孩子们和单身母亲在一起的时间只有9个小时)”可知,父母和孩子都缺少闲暇时间,故划线部分的意思是“父母和孩子都缺少闲暇时间”。 根据第三段中“Play is the most powerful way a child explores the world and learns about himself,(玩耍是孩子探索世界和了解自己最有力的方式)”和“play encourages independent thinking and allows the young to handle their relationships with their peers(玩耍鼓励独立思考,并允许年轻人处理与同龄人的关系)”由此可知,根据作者的观点,如果让孩子以自己的方式和同龄人一起玩,他会发展得更好。 根据第三段中““Play is the most powerful way a child explores the world and learns about himself,” says T. Berry Brazelton, professor at Harvard Medical School Unstructured play encourages independent thinking and allows the young to negotiate their relationships with their peers, but kids ages 3 to 12 spent only 12 hours a week engaged in it.(哈佛大学医学院教授T. Berry Brazelton说:“游戏是孩子探索世界和了解自己的最有力方式。非结构化的游戏鼓励独立思考,并允许年轻人与同伴协商他们的关系,但3至12岁的孩子每周只花12小时参与游戏。”)”可知,作者对美国孩子的担忧是他们从事越来越多结构化的活动。故选B。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Despite efforts to get kids more interested in books, the children spent just over an hour a week reading.(尽管努力让孩子们对书籍更感兴趣,孩子们每周花在阅读上的时间还是刚刚超过一个小时)”可推知,大多数父母认为阅读对孩子有益。故选B。 D In the U. S., people eat more protein than they need to, which might not be bad for human health, but does pose a problem for the country’s waterways. The nation’s wastewater is loaded with the leftovers (残留物) from protein digestion: nitrogen (氮) compounds that can feed harmful algal blooms (藻华) and pollute the air and drinking water. Maya Almaraz, a biogeochemist at the University of California, Davis, and her team wanted to see how much of this nitrogen entered into the U. S. wastewater system because of a protein-heavy diet. The researchers found that the majority of nitrogen pollution present in wastewater — some 67 to 100 precent — is a by-product of water people consume. Once it enters the environment, the nitrogen can have a series of ecological impacts. It helps algae grow much faster than they would normally, which is harmful to humans, other animals and plants. And when the algae eventually die, the problem is not over. Microorganisms (微生物) that feed on dead algae use up the oxygen in the water, leading to “dead zones”, where many species simply cannot survive, in rivers, lakes and oceans. Although it is possible to treat algal blooms, many of the current methods are not always effective at getting rid of all of the harmful growth. Some of these methods can even lead to additional pollution. So the best strategy for dealing with the effects of nitrogen pollution is prevention, says Patricia Glibert, an ocean scientist at the University of Maryland. Almaraz and her team suggest that controlling nitrogen pollution could be approached more quickly with a change in eating habits that could save billions of dollars in the long term. 12. Which aspect of Americans’ diet does Almaraz’s research focus on ? A. Its amount. B. Its variety. C. Its make-up. D. Its effect. 13. What causes “dead zones” in the water? A. Death of lots of healthy algae. B. No oxygen for many species. C. Microorganisms’ over-consumption of nutrients. D. Poisonous chemicals released by harmful algae. 14. What is the problem with current algal bloom treatment methods? A. They are too costly. B. They are time-consuming. C. They may cause more pollution. D. They may kill all algae. 15. What does the text mainly tell us? A. Prevention is better than cure in treating air pollution. B. Researchers find solutions to the wastewater problem. C. It is high time to treat wild algae growth. D. Eating too much protein harms the planet. D 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第一段中“The nation’s wastewater is loaded with the leftovers (残留物) from protein digestion: nitrogen (氮) compounds that can feed harmful algal blooms (藻华) and pollute the air and drinking water.(这个国家的废水中充满了蛋白质消化的残余物:氮化合物,这些化合物会滋生有害的藻华,污染空气和饮用水)”以及第二段中“Maya Almaraz, a biogeochemist at the University of California, Davis, and her team wanted to see how much of this nitrogen entered into the U. S. wastewater system because of a protein-heavy diet.(加州大学戴维斯分校的生物地球化学家玛雅·阿尔玛拉兹和她的团队想知道,由于蛋白质含量高的饮食,有多少氮进入了美国的废水系统)”可知,加州大学戴维斯分校的生物地球化学家玛雅·阿尔玛拉兹和她的团队研究关注的是美国人饮食由于蛋白质含量高,美国的水道中含有蛋白质消化的残余物:氯化合物,该物质对生物、空气和饮用水等造成了影响。 根据第三段“Microorganisms (微生物) that feed on dead algae use up the oxygen in the water, leading to “dead zones”, where many species simply cannot survive, in rivers, lakes and oceans.(以死藻为食的微生物耗尽了水中的氧气,导致河流、湖泊和海洋中的“死区”,许多物种根本无法在那里生存)”可知,以死藻为食的微生物耗尽了水中的氧气,导致河流、湖泊和海洋中的“死区”。 根据第四段“Some of these methods can even lead to additional pollution.(其中一些方法甚至会导致额外的污染)”可知,当前的一些处理方法容易造成额外污染,即二次污染。 根据第一段“The nation’s wastewater is loaded with the leftovers (残留物) from protein digestion: nitrogen (氮) compounds that can feed harmful algal blooms (藻华) and pollute the air and drinking water.(这个国家的废水中充满了蛋白质消化的残余物:氮化合物,这些化合物会滋生有害的藻华,污染空气和饮用水)”以及通读全文,文章介绍了美国人吃过多蛋白质会导致氮污染,并且这种污染会促进有害藻类的生长,最终对环境造成负面影响。 由此可知,D选项“Eating too much protein harms the planet.(摄入过多的蛋白质对地球有害)”概括文章主要内容,符合题意。 By being involved in your community improvement, you can gain a sense of achievement. Oftentimes, when we feel dissatisfied with how things are done in our community, it can be tempting (有诱惑力的) to pull back entirely from getting involved. ____16____ The problem is that the road to community improvement depends on the work of tons of volunteers who work tirelessly for improvement. So before you decide how you’ll get involved, consider what you’d like to see as a result from your service. Here are a few of the benefits to consider: You can make small, everyday improvements to your community. You may not notice when the park is looking especially clean. ____17____ Living in a community that seems loved and cared-for has a huge impact on our general sense of well-being and happiness. ____18____ There are many people who’d like to get involved but don’t know how. By seeking out involvement opportunities, you can set a good example and you can also help others find the resources and information they need to get involved. You can develop good values in your family. Kids are hugely impacted by the values of their parents, so demonstrate to your kids the importance of civic activities by getting involved in community efforts. ____19____ Start something big. If you’ve noticed something going on in your area that you think is a problem, the chances are that others have noticed it, too. Even if they haven’t, once it’s been brought to their attention, they’ll be likely to have an opinion on it. ____20____ In this way, you can start something big! A. Consider your role in the community. B. You can set a good example for others. C. So why not bring attention to these kinds of issues? D. However, you’ll notice when it’s looking especially dirty. E Local organizations in your community can be of help. F. During these times, we tend to feel like our voices don’t matter. G. Include them in any efforts where it’ll be safe for kids to participate. F 17. D 18. B 19. G 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Oftentimes, when we feel dissatisfied with how things are done in our community, it can be tempting (有诱惑力的) to pull back entirely from getting involved. (通常,当我们对社区的事情处理方式感到不满时,我们可能会完全不参与其中。)”可知,人们不参与社区事情是因为自己觉得自己的声音无关紧要,F 选项“During these times, we tend to feel like our voices don’t matter. Next Saturday was her friend Betty’s birthday, but she did not have anything nice to wear to the party. Her father had just lost his job, so she couldn’t ask for a new dress. Nina decided to wear an old dress that had been her favorite for many years but had become a little too short for her now. “I’ll ask the tailor to increase the length,” Nina said to herself. The tailor, however, refused to do so. “The dress is too old. Any alteration (改动) won’t work for it. Besides, I have too many other orders. My hands are full.” With a sad heart, she walked out of the tailor’s shop. “What am I to do?” she thought. Just as she was about to go home, she saw a lady getting out of a car not far away and walking toward the bank in a hurry. The lady opened her handbag to take out some papers, and her wallet fell on the ground. Unaware of it, she went into the bank. Nina ran and picked up the wallet. There were so many people inside the bank that she decided to wait on the steps. After a long time, the lady came out. Nina handed her the wallet that she had dropped. The lady could not believe it. The little girl had been waiting for her for so long to hand her the wallet. She looked at the contents in it, and everything was just the way she had left it. “Thank you, sweetheart. What is your name, and where are you going? Can I drop you home?” the lady asked Nina softly. Nina told the lady her name and that she was going home. The lady invited Nina to get into the car. On the way, Nina told her what had happened in the tailor’s shop and the difficulty her father was facing. The lady looked at the dress and then at Nina. She was the owner of a boutique (时装店) that stitched (缝制) clothes for children and young adults. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 “Come to my shop and collect your dress tomorrow,” the lady told Nina. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On Saturday, Nina wore the dress with a fresh new design to Betty’s birthday party. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: “Come to my shop and collect your dress tomorrow,” the lady told Nina. The next morning, Nina nervously entered the boutique. The lady greeted her warmly and handed her the dress. To Nina’s surprise, the old dress had been transformed — its length was perfectly extended with delicate flowers on the sleeves. “I added some adjustments,” the lady smiled. “Kindness deserves beauty.” Nina’s eyes filled with tears. “Thank you… but I can’t afford this,” she whispered. The lady gently shook her head. “This is my gift to you. Your honesty moved me.” On Saturday, Nina wore the dress with a fresh new design to Betty’s birthday party. When she entered, everyone gasped. Betty ran over, exclaiming, “You look like a princess!” For the first time in weeks, Nina smiled brightly. When Nina returned home, her father was waiting with tear-filled eyes. “The boutique called,” he said, holding a job offer letter. “They need a delivery driver… and heard I’m good with maps.” That night, Nina hung the transformed dress by her window. The dress was not just fabric; it was a reminder that even in hardship, kindness could make miracles. 词汇激活 行为类 ①低声说:whisper/mutter ②大喊:exclaim/yell/cry ③回家:return home/come home ④抓着:hold/grasp/clutch 情绪类 ①紧张地:nervously/anxiously ②惊讶:surprise/amazement 【点睛】[高分句型1] When she entered, everyone gasped. How I achieved in mathematical biology C On average, American kids ages 3 to 12 spent 29 hours a week in school, eight hours more than they did in 1981. C Children are not taken good care of by their working parents. A They are increasingly ignored by their working mothers. D In the U. A. The tailor however, refused to do so.
