I’m sure you’ve all noticed the snowstorm has become worse since we arrived here at 8 a.m. The school staff and I apologize for not realizing how heavy this storm would be. It was reported that there would be 5 cm of snow. But indeed, we currently have double that amount, and it’s expected to become over 20 cm by three o’clock. So, what does that mean? It will require classes to end now, at 11 o’clock. Lunch will still be served in the cafeteria; you may have it now. For senior students who have driven to school, you’re welcome to drive home, but please be careful. For everyone else, the school buses are coming at noon. You are advised to wait in the cafeteria until then. But please, for everyone in the school, call your parents to tell them what you’re doing. It’s quite a dangerous situation out there right now. And by this evening, we’ll have almost a meter of snow on the ground. Next, wait for an announcement from our school bus driver, Jamie Johnson. He will tell you more information about bus schedules and safety advice. Thanks, everyone—and please, stay safe out there. A The Rumpus Poetry Competition: Celebrating Literary Excellence The Rumpus is excited to announce the launch of our poetry competition, an opportunity to support both emerging and established poets. We seek to publish the single best poem or set of 2–3 poems that resonate(回响) deeply with readers.(我们备受尊敬的评委将根据作品的创造力、原创性以及作品的情感感染力来对投稿进行评估。 C。 B My birth was a little more dramatic than the standard way a baby enters the world. Within minutes of coming out, I was taken away into another room while doctors gave my parents the difficult news: I was born missing my left hand. This news would come to define the rest of my life, but thanks to a nurse’ intervention telling my parents to treat me normally. I had a relatively normal childhood. I played sports, acted in theater, excelled (出色) in school, participated in student government and had play dates with friends. Despite some stares and polite questions about my limb (肢体) difference, I wasn’t made fun of. As kids do, I quickly learned to adapt, working around the “missing” hand. One of my earliest memories is my father trying to teach me to tie my shoes. His two handed method wouldn’t work for me, so I figured out a way to do it with one hand. I started hiding disability on the first day of high school. I was 13, an age when kids are already very self-conscious. I remember getting on the yellow school bus and one of the other kids stared just a little too long at my left arm. The staring worried me in a way it never had before, and I felt a sudden urge to hide my hand, so I impulsively (冲动地) slipped it into my pocket. For the next two decades, I kept my limb difference hidden at all times. From then on, I realized that my missing hand made me hideous and that if people knew about it they would be scared of me and they don’t want to be around me anymore. Honestly, I was terrified that if I exposed my limb difference that people would find me as ugly as I found myself, I felt lonely and scared all the time. When I was 38 years old, tired of hiding and so lonely, I met someone who convinced me to stop hiding my limb difference. For the first time in my life, I allowed someone to really hold my limb, look at it, take pictures of it, touch it, love it—love me. From that point on, I saw my limb difference as something unique and beautiful about me, something that should be shown, not hidden. Unhiding my hand made everything in my life better. It was a transformational experience, and through that process, I learned to love myself. This ability to love myself changed how I lived my entire life, and it made me happier. 24.Why was the author taken to another room shortly after birth? A.The author was born prematurely. B.The author needed special medical treatment. C.The parents wanted to see their newborn child. D.The doctors had something to inform the parents. 25.What does the author’s memory of tying shoes with one hand suggest? A.The author relied heavily on others. B.The author’s father was not helpful. C.The author has a strong ability to adapt. D.There are challenges in the author’s daily life. 26.What can be inferred about the author’s emotional state in high school? A.Fearful of judgment and self-doubting. B.Self-conscious and confident. C.Motivated and optimistic. D.Envious and insecure. 27.What is the main message the author wants to convey? A.Actions speak louder than words. B.Be yourself, everyone else is taken. C.Practice makes perfect. D.Better late than never. 根据第一段“Within minutes of coming out, I was taken away into another room while doctors gave my parents the difficult news: I was born missing my left hand. 根据第二段“One of my earliest memories is my father trying to teach me to tie my shoes. His two handed method wouldn’t work for me, so I figured out a way to do it with one hand.(我最早的回忆是我的父亲教我系鞋带。 根据第三段“The staring worried me in a way it never had before, and I felt a sudden urge to hide my hand, so I impulsively (冲动地) slipped it into my pocket. For the next two decades, I kept my limb difference hidden at all times. From then on, I realized that my missing hand made me hideous and that if people knew about it they would be scared of me and they don’t want to be around me anymore. Honestly, I was terrified that if I exposed my limb difference that people would find me as ugly as I found myself, I felt lonely and scared all the time.(这种凝视让我感到前所未有的担忧,我突然有一种想把手藏起来的冲动,于是我冲动地把它塞进了口袋。 故选A。 27. 根据最后一段“Unhiding my hand made everything in my life better. It was a transformational experience, and through that process, I learned to love myself. This ability to love myself changed how I lived my entire life, and it made me happier.(露出我的手让我的生活变得更好。 B。 C Earthquakes are among the most mysterious and terrifying natural disasters. While we can sometimes predict major ones, others strike without warning, devastating cities and causing fires, landslides and tsunamis. With climate change leading to increased wildfires and hurricanes, could it also make earthquakes more common? The most dangerous earthquakes are tectonic (地壳构造的) earthquakes, caused by the movement of Earth’s tectonic plates. These plates shift about 1.5 centimeters per year due to internal heat, building pressure until they suddenly move, which releases energy and causes earthquakes. Unlike other disasters, it’s almost impossible to predict when earthquakes will happen, making planned evacuations (疏散) next to impossible. Unfortunately, climate change could make quakes happen closer together and with more intensity, experts told Live Science. With global warming, glaciers are melting at an increased rate. When melted glacier water flows off land and into the sea, the land that used to sit underneath it rises, said John Cassidy, an earthquake seismologist at the Geological Survey of Canada and the University of Victoria. More concerning than glacial-melt earthquakes are those that could be caused by an increase in sea level. As sea levels rise, pressure underwater on the seafloor also goes up, said Marco Bohnhoff, a geophysicist at GFZ Helmholtz Centre Potsdam and Free University Berlin in Germany. As water pressure spikes, the pressure on fault (断层) lines near the coast will also increase. Even if we stopped using greenhouse gases now, it would take up to 1,000 years for sea level rise to stop, Bohnhoff added. He predicts that over that time, the gaps between big coastal earthquakes will become shorter. Cassidy is uncertain if sea level rise will cause giant quakes to happen faster within our lifetimes. He emphasized that climate change will make them more dangerous. “It’s an important topic, and one that I’m sure we’ll see a lot of information coming out on in the coming months and years,” he said. “But no matter what we’ve discovered, it’s not good news.” 28.What does the article tell us about tectonic earthquakes? A.They are easier to predict than others. B.They happen mostly near coastal areas. C.They result from the shifting of Earth’s plates. D.They rarely lead to other natural disasters. 29.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 4 refer to? A.The land. B.The glacier. C.The quake. D.The sea. 30.What does Bohnhoff imply? A.Coastal areas will be safer over time. B.Sea level rise will eventually stabilize. C.Human actions have long-term effects. D.Earthquakes will become more predictable. 31.What is Cassidy’s attitude toward the future impact of climate change on earthquakes? A.Hopeful. B.Concerned. C.Uncaring. D.Skeptical. 根据第二段中“The most dangerous earthquakes are tectonic (地壳构造的) earthquakes, caused by the movement of Earth’s tectonic plates. 根据第四段中“With global warming, glaciers are melting at an increased rate. When melted glacier water flows off land and into the sea, the land that used to sit underneath it rises 根据第六段中“Even if we stopped using greenhouse gases now, it would take up to 1,000 years for sea level rise to stop, Bohnhoff added. 根据最后一段中“He emphasized that climate change will make them more dangerous. “It’s an important topic, and one that I’m sure we’ll see a lot of information coming out on in the coming months and years,” he said. “But no matter what we’ve discovered, it’s not good news.” D Those who spent more time typing or speaking with ChatGPT each day tended to report higher levels of emotional dependence on, and problematic use of, the chatbot, as well as heightened levels of loneliness, according to new research from OpenAI in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The findings were part of a pair of studies conducted by researchers at the two organizations. The launch of ChatGPT in late 2022 helped kick off a craze for generative artificial intelligence. Since then, people have used chatbots for everything from coding to therapy sessions. As developers like OpenAI push out more sophisticated models and voice features that make them better at imitating the ways humans communicate, there is arguably more potential for forming parasocial relationships with these chatbots. To conduct the studies, the researchers followed nearly 1,000 people for a month. participants had a wide range of prior experience with ChatGPT and were randomly assigned a text-only version of it or one of two different voice-based options to use for at least five minutes per day. Some were told to carry out open-ended chats about anything they wanted; others were told to have personal or non-personal conversations with the service. The researchers found that people who tend to get more emotionally attached in human relationships and are more trusting of the chatbot were more likely to feel lonelier and more emotionally dependent on ChatGPT. The researchers didn’t find that a more engaging voice led to a more negative outcome, they said. In the second study, researchers used software to analyze 3 million user conversations with ChatGPT and also surveyed people about how they interact with the chatbot. They found very few people actually use ChatGPT for emotional conversations. Cathy Mengying Fang, a study co-author and MIT graduate student, said the researchers are cautious about people using the findings to conclude that more usage of the chatbot will necessarily have negative consequences for users. The study didn’t control for the amount of time people used the chatbot as a main factor, she said, and didn’t compare to a control group that doesn’t use chatbots. 32.What is the main conclusion of the study? A.Most users rely on ChatGPT for emotional support. B.More ChatGPT use may cause emotional problems. C.Frequent ChatGPT users may lose control of emotions. D.Voice chat may lead to stronger emotional attachment. 33.Why are chatbots like ChatGPT becoming popular? A.They offer free services. B.Tech giants develop them. C.Their functions are advanced. D.They can replace human work. 34.What were the participants in the first study asked to do? A.Test ChatGPT’s technical capabilities through specific tasks. B.Regularly interact with ChatGPT using different modes and topics. C.Complete surveys about their emotional experiences with ChatGPT. D.Analyze their own conversations with ChatGPT for research purposes. 35.What can be inferred from Cathy Mengying Fang? A.The study has some limitations. B.She is critical of the study findings. C.The study conclusion applies widely. D.The study shows ChatGPT’s harm clearly. 根据文章第一段“Those who spent more time typing or speaking with ChatGPT each day tended to report higher levels of emotional dependence on, and problematic use of, the chatbot, as well as heightened levels of loneliness(每天花更多时间与ChatGPT打字或语音交流的人,往往报告对聊天机器人的情感依赖和问题使用程度更高,孤独感也更强)”可知,研究的主要结论是更多使用ChatGPT可能导致情感问题。故选B。 33. 根据文章第二段中“The launch of ChatGPT in late 2022 helped kick off a craze for generative artificial intelligenc(ChatGPT的发布引发了生成式人工智能的热潮) ”和“As developers like OpenAI push out more sophisticated models and voice features that make them better at imitating the ways humans communicate, there is arguably more potential for forming parasocial relationships with these chatbots.(随着OpenAI等开发人员推出更复杂的模型和语音功能,使它们能够更好地模仿人类的交流方式,可以说,与这些聊天机器人建立准社会关系的潜力更大。)” 根据文章第三段中“Participants had a wide range of prior experience with ChatGPT and were randomly assigned a text-only version of it or one of two different voice-based options to use for at least five minutes per day. Some were told to carry out open-ended chats about anything they wanted; others were told to have personal or non-personal conversations with the service.(参与者对ChatGPT有各种各样的使用经验,并随机分配了一个纯文本版本或两个不同的基于语音的选项,每天至少使用五分钟。 根据文章最后一段“The study didn’t control for the amount of time people used the chatbot as a main factor, she said, and didn’t compare to a control group that doesn’t use chatbots.(她说,研究没有将人们使用聊天机器人作为主要因素的时间进行控制,也没有与不使用聊天机器人的对照组进行比较。)” 故选A。 While travelling alone can be an enlightening experience, it can be incredibly overwhelming to leave home and head into the big wide world with just you and your backpack. 36 But what kind of person should we anticipate? A person with opposite characteristics may increase the enjoyment of your trip’s duration. My best friend and I are far too alike. We love the same food, music and both love to travel. 37 We both hate making decisions and are poor with money. This is a recipe for disaster. My travel partner, on the other hand, is the total opposite of me. He loves to plan and budgets are his best friend. This is why we make such a great travel team. 38 You will make memories and share experiences that will last a lifetime. However, travelling the world together won’t be sun-kissed days and picture-perfect moments all the time. There will be flight delays, homesickness… even actual sickness. To resolve them quickly and fairly, you two need to be on the same wavelength. Put more simply, it’s important to find a travel buddy who communicates openly. Although I’ve enjoyed traveling with my partner for over a decade, I can admit that friendship fatigue (疲劳) is real. You will long for some alone time eventually as it is tiring spending 24/7 with another human, regardless of how much you love and respect him/ her. 39 Make sure you find a travel buddy who understands this. With a travel companion, not only will you save money but it is beneficial to share travel stories and have a familiar face as you travel into the unknown. 40 A travel buddy and personal photographer all in one! A.Love and respect can take you far. B.We are terrible travel companions, nevertheless. C.A travel companion might make a world of difference. D.Also, who else will take those natural photos for you? E.A significant key to travelling together is communication. F.That’s why we need to give it a second thought before travelling. G.Alone time is healthy and very much critical for your mental well-being. 36.由上文“While travelling alone can be an enlightening experience, it can be incredibly overwhelming to leave home and head into the big wide world with just you and your backpack. 39.由上文“You will long for some alone time eventually as it is tiring spending 24/7 with another human, regardless of how much you love and respect him/her. (你最终会渴望一些独处的时间,因为不管你有多爱和尊重他 / 她,整天和另一个人在一起都很累。)”可知,此处讨论独处时间的必要性,G项Alone time is healthy and very much critical for your mental well-being. 40.由下文“A travel buddy and personal photographer all in one! (一个旅行伙伴同时也是私人摄影师!)”可知,此处列举旅伴的额外好处,D项Also, who else will take those natural photos for you? Initially, I wanted to throw it away, but my wife suggested we give the remaining Popsicles to the neighborhood children. Her suggestion changed our life and led us to a future full of “Popsicle Kids.” My wife and I, retired on Social Security, live in an apartment complex. After careers in sales and nursing, our daily concerns revolved around aches, pains, and dinner. We often wondered what good we were to the world. That changed dramatically after we gave away the first Popsicle. Minutes after watching a neighbor boy, a second grader, walk away with an icy treat, our doorbell rang. An adorable blond girl, about six, smiled sweetly, “Is it true you’re giving away Popsicles?” With the box empty, we returned to our concerns. Early the next morning, the doorbell rang repeatedly. Standing on our porch were the four children from the previous day. They vocalized their wants, chanting (有节奏地喊), “We want Popsicles! We want Popsicles!” Looking into their eager young faces, I wondered, “What have I started?” Sensing a victory, they nodded eagerly when I explained the rules: ring the bell once, one Popsicle per day, and share something good about their day. But their thin shoulders bent downwards in disappointment when I mentioned they had to give something in return. I came to the rescue, suggesting they share something positive about their day, like what they learned at school or helping another student. Over time, new rules were added: “Ladies first,” “Don’t interrupt,” and “Properly get rid of the sticks.” On holidays, they expressed their understanding of why the day was celebrated. Over the years, about fifty youngsters visited. Some became part of my life, like the four kids who joined me on the steps one spring to read “Where the Red Fern Grows.” We discussed catching crawfish, loving pets, and family relationships. This simple act of sharing Popsicles transformed our life, bringing joy and meaning to both the children and ourselves. Paragraph1: One night, another boy appeared at the door, saying “I don’t want a Popsicle; I just need to talk” ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: I’ve sensed it’s more than Popsicles that bring these kids to our door. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph1: One night, another boy appeared at the door, saying “I don’t want a Popsicle; I just need to talk”. Surprised but concerned, I invited him in and offered a seat. He sat on the couch, looking down at his shoes, his face filled with anxiety. Slowly, he opened up about the argument he had with his best friend at school that day. I listened attentively, nodding occasionally to show I was there for him. After he poured out his feelings, I shared some stories of my own childhood conflicts and how I resolved them. By the end of our talk, his frown had turned into a faint smile. Before leaving, he thanked me earnestly, and I realized that our little Popsicle tradition had become a safe haven for these kids. Paragraph 2: I’ve sensed it’s more than Popsicles that bring these kids to our door. Beyond the sweet treats, it’s the sense of trust and understanding we’ve built. We’ve become their confidants, their listening ears. For us, these interactions have filled our retired life with purpose and warmth. We’ve witnessed their growth, their joys, and their sorrows. Each time the doorbell rings, it’s not just the anticipation of sharing a Popsicle but an opportunity to connect, to offer comfort, and to be a part of these young lives. In return, they’ve given us a new perspective on life and a deeper appreciation for the simple yet profound power of human connection. 词汇激活 行为类 ①充满:be filled with/be full of ②解决:resolve/deal with ③意识到:realize/be aware of ④提供:offer/provide 情绪类 ①悲伤:sorrow/sadness ②惊讶的:surprised/astonished 【点睛】[高分句型1]Before leaving, he thanked me earnestly, and I realized that our little Popsicle tradition had become a safe haven for these kids.(运用了that引导宾语从句) [高分句型2]After he poured out his feelings, I shared some stories of my own childhood conflicts and how I resolved them.(运用了after引导时间状语从句,how引导宾语从句) 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$听力考试正式开始。Everyone sleeping, Francis, please keep your voice down. B My birth was a little more dramatic than the standard way a baby enters the world. C Earthquakes are among the most mysterious and terrifying natural disasters. D Those who spent more time typing or speaking with ChatGPT each day tended to report higher levels of emotional dependence on, and problematic use of, the chatbot, as well as heightened levels of loneliness, according to new research from OpenAI in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While travelling alone can be an enlightening experience, it can be incredibly overwhelming to leave home and head into the big wide world with just you and your backpack. The last thing Matthews remembered before waking up in the hospital was riding along a quiet street.
