In this spirit, we are excited to introduce our newest educational plan: the “Green Thumb” program. This innovative program aims to connect students with the land, teaching them valuable lessons about responsibility and the joy of farming. The heart of the “Green Thumb” program is our dedicated on-campus farm, an outdoor space where students can roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty. This living classroom features rows of garden beds, a greenhouse and a small plot of land, all carefully tended by our students under the guidance of experienced agricultural educators. In this hands-on learning environment, students not only acquire practical farming skills but also gain a deep appreciation of where their food comes from. They’ll learn to plant, nurture and harvest certain types of crops: tomatoes, potatoes and carrots. Sunflowers and fruit trees are also planned for next year if the program goes smoothly. By engaging in the “Green Thumb” program, our students cultivate not only crops but also their minds and a deep connection to the world around them. Brightside Academy’s commitment to a well-rounded education now includes nurturing future environmental workers through this exciting farming initiative. A AIRLIE BEACH HELICOPTERS Tour One WHITSUNDAY WHIRL 20 MINUTE HELICOPTER TOUR Come aboard! I knew from the beginning that the technical aspects of the virtual workplace would be challenging for me. I had a lot to learn about teleconferencing and using virtual folders instead of file cabinets. However, what I didn’t anticipate was the loneliness I felt. Despite its disadvantage, the Internet remains a service, not a team of people. It can never be a replacement for face-to-face contact. Several months ago, as I suggested, the team decided to look for ways to make the virtual working environment more personal. While our work place is virtual, the people we work with aren’t. We started our staff meetings with a brief sharing of “news and celebrations”, varying from celebrating personal and professional accomplishments to announcements about getting a new puppy. We recently instituted a “Weekly Team Brief” — an online newsletter to help us share and stay informed of any novel developments in our respective initiatives. I’ve also developed a few reminders to help me stay real and personal in a virtual word. I call these the “three R’s” — reach out, respond, request. Firstly, I make a point of reaching out to team members frequently. It’s sometimes just a “checking in” with a short email, but I also call fairly often, which I find strengthens a relationship more than email threads. Then, I respond to emails with respect and warmth. I try to engage a listening ea r before responding, which I think is a form of respect. I also try to include a touch of warmth in my response. After all, it’s a person — not a machine — that I’m responding to. Plus, I request the opinions and support from my teammates. Consequently, I’ve found the entire team are energized by supporting each other. I now feel connected with my team members in both a professional and personal way. While our workplace remains virtual, the relationships are real. 24. What was beyond the writer’s expectation? A. The lack of interpersonal connection. B. The challenge of using technical tools. C. The benefit of the virtual environment. D. The fact of working with virtual people. 25. What is “Weekly Team Brief” aimed to do? A. Show respect for their team. B. Obtain great academic achievements. C. Develop the skills in writing. D. Learn about teammates’ new progress. 26. How does the writer explain his reminder of “respond”? A. By following directions. B. By offering suggestions. C. By presenting the practice. D. By analyzing the outcome. 27. What does the writer feel about his present situation? A. Tolerant. B. Content. C. Ambiguous. D. Concerned. A 25. D 26. C 27. 根据第一段“However, what I didn’t anticipate was the loneliness I felt. Despite its disadvantage, the Internet remains a service, not a team of people. It can never be a replacement for face-to-face contact. (然而,我没有预料到的是我感到的孤独。尽管有缺点,互联网仍然是一种服务,而不是一个团队。它永远无法取代面对面的交流)”可知,超出作者预期的是缺乏面对面的交流,即缺乏人与人之间的联系。故选A项。 根据第二段“We recently instituted a ‘Weekly Team Brief’ — an online newsletter to help us share and stay informed of any novel developments in our respective initiatives. (我们最近设立了一个‘每周团队简报’——一份在线通讯,帮助我们分享并了解各自项目中任何新的进展)”可知,“每周团队简报”旨在了解团队成员的新进展。故选D项。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Then, I respond to emails with respect and warmth. I try to engage a listening ear before responding, which I think is a form of respect. I also try to include a touch of warmth in my response. After all, it’s a person — not a machine — that I’m responding to. (然后,我用尊重和温暖回复电子邮件。在回复之前,我试着倾听,我认为这是一种尊重。我也试着在回复中加入一丝温暖。毕竟,我回复的是一个人,而不是一台机器)”可知,作者通过呈现自己的做法来解释“回应”这一提醒。故选C项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Consequently, I’ve found the entire team are energized by supporting each other.(因此,我发现整个团队都通过相互支持而充满活力)”以及最后一段“I now feel connected with my team members in both a professional and personal way. While our workplace remains virtual, the relationships are real. (我现在觉得和团队成员在职业和个人方面都有联系。虽然我们的工作场所仍然是虚拟的,但关系是真实的)”可推知,作者对目前的状况感到满意。故选B项。 C Research shows students learn better when they’re well nourished. Healthy eating has been linked to higher grades, better memory, faster information processing and improved health leading to better school attendance, according to registered dietitian Elisa Zied, author of Feed Your Family Right. On the contrary, unhealthy eating habits can negatively affect learning. Researchers have studied many areas related to eating and learning. Skipping breakfast can have a negative impact on learning. A higher percentage of breakfast eaters passed a biology exam in one study of college students. It’s also important to eat a high-quality breakfast. In a study of students between the ages of twelve and thirteen, the average mark increased as breakfast quality improved. Even with breakfast, the brain can run out of fuel before lunch. In one study of students between the ages of seven and nine, having a mid-morning snack improved memory. The children who ate a smaller breakfast and lunch but consumed a mid-morning snack experienced a smaller decline in immediate and delayed memory. Attention wasn’t affected, however. Zied recommends yogurt with blueberries; this fruit has been proven to be linked to better memory in studies. A hard-boiled egg is also a good snack choice. Kids who eat healthily are more likely to attend school. Without proper nutrition and adequate calories, students often don’t have enough energy to power the brain, resulting in tiredness and learning problems. In fact, alertness(机敏) improved significantly in students eating breakfast in one study of high school students published in the journal Pediatrics. A study of public school students published in the Journal of School Health linked high intake of sweetened drinks, such as sugary sodas, to lower scores in math tests. A diet high in junk food and sugary sodas is also linked to childhood obesity, which could result in lower cognitive(认知的) functioning, according to the Yale University research. On the other hand, students with healthy eating habits are less likely to be overweight and more likely to learn well. 28. What is an effective way for students to improve their memory? A. Eating a big breakfast on a regular basis. B. Staying away from junk food in daily life. C. Eating something healthy at about 10:00 am D. Adding yogurt with strawberries to their daily diet. 29. What can we learn from the fourth paragraph? A. Students will have better attendance at school after eating healthily. B. Students will have a good performance as long as they are well fed. C. A high-quality breakfast will make a difference to students, learning. D. Every student has a strong awareness of eating breakfast. 30. What would happen to students who eat much junk food? A. They would become less confident at school. B. They would grow too overweight to work out. C. They would become unwilling to attend school. D. They would fall behind other students at school. 31. What can be the best title for the text? A. The impacts of eating habits on students’ learning B. The advantages of healthy eating habits C. Some suggestions on how to learn better D. The link between diets and learning 【答案】28. C 29. A 30. D 31. 根据第三段中“Even with breakfast, the brain can run out of fuel before lunch. In one study of students between the ages of seven and nine, having a mid-morning snack improved memory. (即使吃早餐,大脑也会在午餐前耗尽能量。在一项针对7到9岁学生的研究中,上午吃点零食可以提高记忆力。)”可知,学生提高记忆力的有效方法是在上午10点左右吃点健康的东西。故选C项。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Kids who eat healthily are more likely to attend school. (饮食健康的孩子更有可能上学。)”可推知,吃得健康后,学生在学校的出勤率会更高。故选A项。 根据最后一段中“A diet high in junk food and sugary sodas is also linked to childhood obesity, which could result in lower cognitive(认知的) functioning, according to the Yale University research.(耶鲁大学的研究表明,垃圾食品和含糖苏打水含量高的饮食也与儿童肥胖有关,这可能会导致认知功能低下。)”和“On the other hand, students with healthy eating habits are less likely to be overweight and more likely to learn well.”(另一方面,有健康饮食习惯的学生更不可能超重,更可能学好。) 根据第一段中“Research shows students learn better when they’re well nourished. (研究表明,营养良好的学生学习效果更好。)”和“On the contrary, unhealthy eating habits can negatively affect learning. Researchers have studied many areas related to eating and learning.(相反,不健康的饮食习惯会对学习产生负面影响。研究人员研究了许多与饮食和学习相关的领域。)”可知,全文主要讲述了饮食习惯对学生学习的影响。故A项“饮食习惯对学生学习的影响”可作为本文的最佳标题。故选A项。 D Earlier this year, analysis of a 100-foot-deep sediment (沉积物) core from the Antarctic ocean floor revealed signs of a rainforest that thrived there 90 million years ago. Now, scientists have uncovered an even more recent sign of the cold continent’s warm past: a fossilized frog dating to roughly 40 million years ago. This fossil frog is the first ever discovered in Antarctica. Prior digs have unearthed the remains of less familiar-looking ancient amphibians (两栖动物), but none with such a direct evolutionary through-line to creatures that walk or hop. The ancient frog’s anatomy (结构) is very similar to a living family of frogs which live in damp, mild forests in Chile. “It looked like today’s frogs. It was rather small but this is in the range of the living ones,” Thomas Mörs, study co-author, told CNN. “During the life of this frog, Antarctica was full of plants and animals, some of which have also been discovered on Seymour Island, the area that produced the frog fossil,” Mörs said to CNN. “My guess is that Antarctica was a rich and diverse place. We have only found a percentage of what lived there.” Scientists were able to make such a precise connection to living frogs because the fossil frog’s skeleton (骨骼) included a skull and a particularly useful hip (髋) bone, which is the most typical part of a frog skeleton. The warm climatic time helps scientists pin down how quickly Antarctica developed frozen sheets of ice. Mörs said, “This frog is one more indication that in that time it was still a suitable habitat for cold-blooded animals like reptiles and amphibians.” The new research estimates Antarctica’s highest monthly average temperatures 40 million years ago would have been roughly 56 degrees Fahrenheit. Not quite beach weather, but warm enough for these ancient frogs. Frogs in Antarctica may seem mysterious, but humanity’s crazy use of fossil fuels is bringing the planet closer to that ancient climate. That’s the last time atmospheric CO2 was as high as it is today, averaging around 407 ppm. Jane Francis, director of the British Antarctic Survey, said, “I call them the last forests in Antarctic. They were growing at about 400 ppm CO2, so this may be where we are going back to, with ice sheets melting at times, which may allow plants to colonize again.” 32. The discovery of the fossilized frog helped scientists to believe ________. A. Antarctica is not always a cold continent B. a rainforest existed in Antarctica 90 million years ago C. Antarctica’s rainforest ended much later than they thought D. the ancient amphibians’ fossils also exist in sediment core of Antarctica 33. What do we know about the ancient amphibians dug previously? A. They are of great archaeological value. B. They resemble today’s frogs in Chile in anatomy. C. They are completely strange to scientists. D. They have no connection with the new discovery. 34. What does the underlined phrase “pin down” in Paragraph 4 refer to? A. Find out. B. Become interested in. C. Cast doubt on. D. Look through. 35. What can we infer from what Jane Francis said? A. The use of fossil fuels should be limited. B. The Antarctica is getting polluted badly. C. The carbon dioxide in atmosphere is increasing. D. The ice sheets in Antarctica are melting constantly. C 33. D 34. A 35. 根据第一段“Earlier this year, analysis of a 100-foot-deep sediment (沉积物) core from the Antarctic ocean floor revealed signs of a rainforest that thrived there 90 million years ago. Now, scientists have uncovered an even more recent sign of the cold continent’s warm past: a fossilized frog dating to roughly 40 million years ago.(今年早些时候,对南极海底100英尺深的沉积物核心的分析揭示了9000万年前在那里繁衍生息的雨林的迹象。现在,科学家们发现了这片寒冷大陆温暖过去的一个更近的迹象:一种大约4000万年前的青蛙化石)”可知,之前的分析表明南极9000万年前存在雨林,青蛙化石的发现让科学家们相信南极洲的雨林比他们想象的要晚得多才结束。故选C项。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Prior digs have unearthed the remains of less familiar-looking ancient amphibians (两栖动物), but none with such a direct evolutionary through-line to creatures that walk or hop. (之前的挖掘发现了不太熟悉的古代两栖动物的遗骸,但没有一种与行走或跳跃的生物有如此直接的进化联系)”可知,之前挖掘的古代两栖动物与新发现没有联系。故选D项。 【34题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段“The warm climatic time helps scientists pin down how quickly Antarctica developed frozen sheets of ice. Not quite beach weather, but warm enough for these ancient frogs.(温暖的气候时间有助于科学家pin down南极洲形成冰冻冰盖的速度。 故选A项。 根据最后一段“ Jane Francis, director of the British Antarctic Survey, said, “I call them the last forests in Antarctic. Melia wanted to decorate the walls, and instead of buying things, she decided to make her own art. Melia enjoyed making collages using a combination of photos she had taken and pieces of fabric. For her tree house, she thought she would use pictures from magazines instead. She could collect used magazines from neighbors, so the pictures would be free. And to create a collage of all her favorite things, she could add pretty leaves, and fruits of pine tree from the yard. For several days, Melia collected bits of nature to use for the collage. She also collected magazines from the neighbors. She piled both at the front door, as her plan was to make the collage over the weekend. Oddly, though she added to the piles each day, many of the leaves were gone, and the pile of magazines was a mess. “Dad? Mom?” Melia asked. “Have either of you been taking the supplies for my collage off the door?” “Now, why on earth would we do that?” her dad answered with a question. “I don’t know, but what I do know is that someone is spoiling my art project! It’s my mission to find out who and why!” Melia declared. Who would want to steal this stuff? She had a plan. She cleaned up the rest of the leaves and threw the ruined magazines in the recycling bin. She started collecting old magazines again, hoping to set a trap. Even if she had to stay up all night, Melia was determined to solve the case. Once she had collected a large pile of magazines, Melia formed several piles at the front door. She placed them close to the window so that she could catch the thief. She asked her parents if she could sleep on the sofa. “I know they’re used magazines, but I need them for my art project. I have to solve this case!” Melia was determined to catch the thief, but she had a difficult time staying awake. Within a few hours, she nodded off. Just as the sun was rising, a slight sound awoke her. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Melia looked through the window, and her eyes opened wide! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Melia ran back into the house, shouting, “It’s a squirrel! Wake up! Come to the tree house and look!” ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Melia looked through the window, and her eyes opened wide! A squirrel was toppling the piles of magazines and using its paws to tear pages. It stuffed the paper in its mouth and ran away. Then, a few minutes later, it was back again to collect more paper! Melia tiptoed outside and watched as the squirrel made its third run. She followed the furry squirrel up the tree and into the tree house. Torn magazine paper and dry leaves littered the floor. Melia ran back into the house, shouting, “It’s a squirrel ! Wake up! Come to the tree house and look!” Getting up quickly, her parents went to the tree house with Melia. They found a box that Melia had planned to store snacks in was slowly being transformed into a squirrel house! Although Melia’s parents thought the squirrel was cute, having a wild animal in the tree house was not a good idea. They relocated the box nearby so that Melia could watch the squirrel build its nest from a safe place in her tree house. “Case closed!” Melia said, feeling brilliant for having a squirrel neighbor. 词汇激活 行为类 收集:collect /gather 回来:be back/return 认为:think/consider 情绪类 可爱:cute /adorable 高兴:brilliant / gorgeous 【点睛】[高分句型1] Getting up quickly, her parents went to the tree house with Melia. B I retired from teaching two years ago and now work with a non-profit organization where everything is done in a virtual environment, which brings great convenience and efficiency to work. C The benefit of the virtual environment. A. Tolerant. B. Content. C. Ambiguous. D. Concerned. C Research shows students learn better when they’re well nourished. 30 What would happen to students who eat much junk food? The link between diets and learning D Earlier this year, analysis of a 100-foot-deep sediment (沉积物) core from the Antarctic ocean floor revealed signs of a rainforest that thrived there 90 million years ago. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 A Hike on a Bike No one knows who had the original thought of riding bikes in the mountains. The idea just seemed fun. The first mountain bikers were from Colorado and Northern California. They had always done their riding on paved roads. ____36____ Why not bike on the trails there, too? The problem was that racing bikes weren’t tough enough. ____37____ It has to have wide tires to hold onto dirt roads, and high clearance (空隙) between the frame and the bike itself has to be higher off the ground. Stores didn’t sell that kind of bike then, so the cyclists designed their own. Searching through garages and junkyards, the cyclists found old bikes that had once been popular. They cleaned the rusted frames, added strong handle bars and put on heavy-duty tires. ____38____ Soon the mountain bikers were teaching themselves tricky moves, such as jumping their bikes over rocks and logs. In a short time, mountain bikers raced each other down steep trails and mountain passes. ____39____ To prevent injuries, mountain bikers began wearing helmets and other safety equipment. One winter, with no snow for skiing, mountain bikers in Crested Butte, Colorado, held a “Fat Tire Festival”! ____40____ Almost as soon as the companies began mass-producing them, mountain bikes became America’s best-selling type of bike. A. They’re comfortable and fun to ride. B. For off-road riding, you need a stronger bike. C. Bicycle-makers spotted the growing trend of the sport. D. Mountain bike racing has been added to the Olympics. E. Then some of the cyclists thought about the mountains nearby. F. Cyclists in different areas heard about mountain biking, and the movement spread. G. Sometimes they took it easy and just enjoyed the view as if they were doing a hike on a bike. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Every act of kindness starts with something small, something we all can and should do every single day.
