Then one morning, Hank came into the cafe, something in hand. It was the very signboard. “I caught it in my nets this morning,” Hank winked, “I told you — not the end of our story.” My fingers traced those beloved words. Grabbing a cloth, I carefully cleaned each letter, wiping away the storm salt. Then I nailed the sign firmly beside the doorway. The sharp sound of the hammer seemed to wake the sleeping cafe.
With the signboard hanging there again, the rebuilding work began. Hank helped me remove the damaged floor. Local artists covered the water stains on the walls with colorful ocean scenes. And shell collectors carefully arranged their best finds along the windowsills. Many hands not just made light work but created a miracle! The cafe came alive! “The usual, Mike.” Hank joked, making a victory gesture in the air, which truly brought The Lighthouse back. It’s definitely a guiding light for ship — our friendship! Our community stories continued …

Text 10
Hello, everyone. Today, I'd like to share some suggestions on choosing a high school with the 9th graders who are preparing for the high school entrance examination. Last year, I was as confused as you when it came to choosing a high school.
Later, I realized that the learning atmosphere is the most important. My parents reminded me that grades weren't everything. A supportive community and teachers who encourage curiosity matter as much.
My advice is you must visit the schools in person, visit the schools you're interested in, talk to current students, ask about homework pressure, club activities and how teachers help struggling learners. The three years of high school are very important. Choosing the right school can make your study enjoyable and help you grow better.
I hope all of you can find the high school that suits you best.

On a busy afternoon in a hospital in New York,a unique"vending machine"stood in Lincoln Medical Center.Instead of a snack stand, this six-foot-tall display was a tiny science museum with strange shelled creatures inside."Are these aliens?"a child asked. His mother smiled,"No,they're mollusks(软体动物)—from the ocean!"
This was the work of MICRO,a nonprofit organization founded by Charles Philip and Amanda Schochet, who dreamed of bringing science to everyone, everywhere.Disappointed by the lack of museums in small towns and the high costs of running orthodox ones, they decided to think small—literally.Their"micro museums"fit into everyday spaces, like hospitals, airports, libraries, offering free,bite-sized science adventures.

Soon,a second museum joined the family—the Perpetual Motion Museum, exploring physics with playful questions:Why do things move? Why do they stop?More mini-museums were planned, each exploring strange but fun topics to raise curiosity.
The mini museums began popping up across New York."Within five years,we aim to become the country's most visited museum."Schochet shared on the Internet."Our museums are small, but our dreams are huge.In communities,we can achieve what others might see as impossible—transforming ordinary houses into national landmarks.”
And who knows? The next tiny museum might just appear in your neighborhood—waiting to surprise, delight, and remind everyone that science belongs to us all.

Choose Your Own Adventure(CYOA)series is more than books—it's an interactive storytelling experience where readers shape the story.Unlike traditional stories with a single plot,CYOA lets readers make choices, like exploring a haunted castle or trusting a stranger, leading to multiple endings, from great wins to terrible failures.
What makes CYOA truly special is how it wonderfully captures the nature of adventure:risk and the unknown. For example,in The Abominable Snowman,do you take the dangerous mountain path—risking an avalanche or entering the safer cave where treasure might wait?Every choice matters, teaching us a significant lesson:True adventure requires not just courage, but the wisdom to choose wisely.
However,CYOA also stimulates deeper reflection. Is there a single "right"path,or do all choices hold meaning? Some endings reward bravery, while others punish recklessness(鲁莽),mirroring real-life dilemmas. The series challenges the traditional idea of a heroic journey, suggesting that failure can be as instructive as success. In The Cave of Time, for instance,a misstep might lead to a disaster, but it also offers insights into the weakness of decision-making,proving even disastrous outcomes can offer valuable lessons.
Beyond entertainment,CYOA illustrates life's unpredictable journey.By mixing excitement with self-reflection,it develops critical thinking and adaptability. The series teaches young readers that uncertainty is not something to fear, but rather an opportunity to grow.
So,CYOA's true magic lies not in the ending, but in the journey itself—where every risk, lesson and choice reminds us:Life's greatest adventures begin when we dare to take control.
32.What makes CYOA different from regular books?
A.High-quality printing. B.Topic-centered writing.
C.Open-plotted storytelling. D.Vividly-descriptive language.
33.What is the educational value of the CYOA series?
A.It promotes readers' social interaction.
B.It develops readers' plan-making ability.
C.It encourages readers to go on adventures.
D.It motivates readers to build courage and wisdom.
34.What will a reader do if he makes a"misstep"in The Cave of Time?
A.He will reflect on himself.
B.He will give up reading further.
C.He will restart from the very beginning.
D.He will make a different choice immediately.
35.Which can be the best title for the text?
A.Life Lessons:Does Failure Really Matter?
B.CYOA's True Magic:Correct Ways to Write a Book
C.Risk and Reward:Two Lasting Themes of Adventures
D.Lessons Beyond the Ending:The True Value of CYOA

根据第三段“In The Cave of Time, for instance, a misstep might lead to a disaster, but it also offers insights into the weakness of decision - making, proving even disastrous outcomes can offer valuable lessons.” 故选A。
interactive adj.
plot n. 情节
avalanche n.
recklessness n.
instructive adj.
disaster n. 灾难
insight n.

The series challenges the traditional idea of a heroic journey, suggesting that failure can be as instructive as success.

39题需紧扣“尝试找到适合自己艺术形式”的主题,排除选项D(与尝试找适合艺术形式无关)和B(“艺术允许自我表达”,未体现尝试和选择的过程)。

56. as(考查固定搭配)“use...as...”
57. promoting(考查动名词)“from...to...”
59. Based(考查过去分词)“be based on”是固定短语,意为“以……
64. A(考查冠词)“a number of...”
65. to ensure(考查不定式。)

For twenty years,I had been running a cafe on the cost of Sanibel Island, Florida. Every morning before sunrise I would arrive at my cafe, carefully hanging the wood signboard “Welcome to he Lighthouse---Serving Daily Joy’s beside the entrance. It was a handmade gift from the community, and the letters cared on it wee worn smooth by years of salt air and loving touches of the customers.
Soon the smell of cafe and bacon filled the air. Then came greetings from every familiar face--silver-haired shell collectors, local artists , and Fisherman Hank with a cheerful order “The usual , Mike’. These regulars had become more than customers to me and this cafe was not just a business Just as Hank put it, “ The lighthouse is for ship, but this Lighthouse is for us!”
Joyful and hopeful days passed one after another until an autumn morning when Hurricane Ian came. The storm covered the entire island with water, turning it unrecognizable. When the storm finally passed,I went back to the cafe, staring helplessly at the floating(漂浮的)items in the water, each of which was a bitter reminder of what I had lost.Just then Hank stepped up beside me,his hand warm on my shoulder,"Not the end of the story,Mike."Behind him were neighbors from the community, who were still in work gloves from their own repairs. With their help, the heavy cleanup finally finished. And the signboard?Gone.Washed away,I assumed, like so much else.
Day after day,I would sit in the shell of the cafe all day, doing nothing.I felt like twenty years of stories and greetings were gone forever.

The Smallest Mollusk Museum was their first project and became a big hit."No one expects to see mollusks in a hospital hallway,"Schochet said. The mini museum had 15 eye-opening displays featuring strange creatures.Designed to fit perfectly into the space,it matched the wall colors and furniture shapes, looking more like an artwork than a traditional exhibit.

A.They need high running costs. B.They focus on animal protection.
C.They are located in the local hospitals. D.They aim to make science accessible to all.

C.They will replace large ones soon. D.They are sponsored by communities.
27.What is the author's writing purpose of the text?
A.To report two MICRO founders. B.To introduce a new museum type
C.To stress the importance of science. D.To illustrate the origin of creativity

In 2018,computer scientist Sasha Luccioni took a new job—AI researcher for Morgan Stanley. She was excited to learn something new in the field of AI.But she couldn't shake her worry."I was getting more and more anxious because I felt a disconnect between my job and my environmental awareness.”So Luccioni quitted her job and joined the growing movement to make AI more sustainable.
Her concerns are reasonable. With the growing construction of data centers,AI was causing an increase in energy and water use.By 2028,data centers could consume 580 terawatt hours一equal to 12%of the U.S.electricity supply.US data centers alone could someday use a Canada-sized amount of energy.
Faced with these problems, major AI companies, like Chat GPT and Google Gemini, are now racing to green their operations. They recognize the development trend in AI is—bigger is better.Meanwhile, they want to meet zero-carbon goals by using solar and wind energy combined with batteries. It's quicker to build and more inexpensive than gas power projects, even though it takes some time.
However, Luccioni,as she put it in her 2023 TED Talk,is not a fan of greening large-sized operations. She said,“.….we don't need a big purpose model...We can use a model that is a lot smaller and a lot cheaper."Currently, she is on a quest to find AI models that are greener at Hugging Face,an online community. Moreover, her team focuses on making sustainability a key factor in how consumers select and make comments on AI tools.Luccioni believes by shifting toward smaller models and renewable energy,AI can continue advancing without wasting energy—a change that depends not just on researchers’ work, but also on consumers’ choice. After all, consumers hold the power to drive sustainable AI through their choices.
28.What is Luccioni's concern according to the text?
A.Green issues brought by AI. B.Imbalance between work and life.
C.Unemployment caused by AI. D.Poor learning ability in the new field.
29.Which can best describe current data centers according to Luccioni?
A.Profit-driven. B.Energy-wasting. C.Tech-advanced D.Eco-friendly.
30.What does the author want to talk about in paragraph 3?
A.The competition between AI companies. B.AI's remarkable progress in recent years.
C.Major AI companies' sustainable practices.
D.Ways to reduce the cost of AI development.
31.What does Luccioni suggest?
A.Using cheaper energy to build a larger model.
B.Introducing a stricter regulation of data centers.
C.Upgrading the equipment of existing Al data centers.
D.Making a two-way effort between researchers and consumers.
