例文
Dear Mr. Smith,
I’m writing to recommend myself to be the reporter of your magazine. I think I have many strong qualities for this position.
I am very active. I often take part in all kinds of school activities, so I am good at communicating with others. I like reading and enjoy writing down my thoughts and feelings. That makes me so creative that I always come up with new ideas. Last year, I won the first prize in the writing competition. What’s more, I am hard-working and never mind doing extra work after class. I have won high praise from teachers and classmates.
I know a lot about colours. My favourite colour is blue. It brings peace to our mind and body. Blue can be of some help to me when I need to make decisions calmly and wisely.
I think I am the most suitable person to be the reporter. I hope that you can agree with me.
Yours sincerely.
Millie

With the winter vacation coming, I realized I needed to find a part-time job, because I didn’t want to ask my parents for money. I had imagined having a job at a winter camp where I could play games with children. In fact, the only job I could find was cleaning up tables at a convenience store (便利店).
At first, I wanted to give up the job because getting up too early in the morning made me unhappy. I won’t forget how tired I felt on my first day, but I’ll never forget sitting together and talking about our days with my workmates for the first time either. Suddenly, I felt good to be a member of them.
After working at the convenience store for almost one year, I was used to getting up so early, because I knew there would be a few good moments every day there.
Working at the convenience store, I’ve learned to grow into a boy that can depend on myself and get along well with others. And I’m not the shy person that I used to be. Meeting an impolite customer might make me feel bad, but very soon I could deal with it without any difficulty. The job has given me so much, and I can’t wait to go back to the convenience store and continue to grow from my experience.

After-school activities can be a wonderful thing and continue our children’s education through the school holidays. However any old activity does not do the right job, every activity should be useful and helpful and of course, enjoyable. So what matters when we make the decision as to what our youngster is going to take part in?
Above all, you should know what you expect your child to learn from the activity, for example, learning how to play a musical instrument, how to draw or whatever. Any activity should be a challenge to a child. Taking on the challenge and achievement can help a quiet or shy child become more confident.
Safety must be the most important thing that you should consider of any activity. But remember nothing can be made to be 100% safe and still be interesting. You should talk to an instructor and ask questions before deciding, this is the course you want your child to be part of. Be careful of the activity itself with too much competition because that can cause problems and kill off enjoyment. Do not forget that this is costing you money so try to be sure that you are getting value for it. Of course there’s no doubt that discussing things with your child first is also a good idea.
Parents have different opinions about it though. On the one hand there are those who decide all the things for the child and adults make the running. On the other hand there are those who much prefer to leave the child to choose on his or her own and decide what they want to do during their holiday. Some say that the second method encourages children to better think for themselves and that the first makes them depend more on adults. Only you can decide which one you are and which is the best for you and your child. Remember that you are only young once and childhood will be gone soon forever. All work and no play is not the idea.
Successful after-school activities
56
After-school activities can be wonderful and educational. After-school activities should be of some use, help and 57 .
Purpose
You should know what your child is 58 to learn if he or she takes part in an activity. Challenging activities and achievement can 59 a quiet or shy child’s confidence.
Safety
It’s always 60 that there is some danger in different activities.
Ask an instructor for advice before making decisions.
61 activities with too much competition.
Discuss things with your child first.
Two types of parents
Some parents believe 62 should be decided for the child, and that makes their child more dependent on.
Others let the child make his or her own 63 and decisions, making them an independent child.
Conclusion
Precious childhood, once gone, 64 come back.
All work 65 play is not the good idea.
B)根据短文内容及首字母提示,填写所缺单词,并将答案填写在答题卡标号为66—75的相应位置上。
It’s necessary to discover what you are good at or not and what you like or dislike.
Many students would be unhappy if they f 66 in a very difficult physics course, but in fact they have known a lot about t 67 . They realize that they should not become engineers or physical s 68 in the future. So failing can help a student to live a happier life if he or she draws something out of it. They may then decide on their aims and c 69 the kind of work that they would be fit for and they would like to do.
You can’t be sure whether you like something u 70 you have tried it. If you decide that you would like to play the violin, you need to take more music classes b 71 you know if you are really interested in it.
It is not e 72 to hope to be a violinist. You also have to stand(忍受) the hard practice before you become one. If you would enjoy being a great violinist, but hate the hard and b 73 work, just give it up.

He started his journey in early 2015. At that time he was a 15-year-old boy living in Satellite Beach, Florida, near the Kennedy Space Centre. He had used his birthday cash to buy a camera and began practising by shooting* rocket launches. Living on Florida’s Space Coast gave him many chances to practise.
However, he wasn’t sure his hobby was going to be his life’s work. “When I first started in early 2015, photographing rockets was just like Oh, look, there’s a launch tomorrow night. I guess I’ll take photos!” Kraus wrote.
But online attention and increasing photo sales led him to take a deeper look at his hobby. Could he really turn his hobby into his career*? After graduating high school, he decided to work as a full-time photographer. Kraus spoke about some of the challenges of deciding what kind of job he wanted to do.
