初高英语衔接课程-NCE3L9-课文改编练习 1. 语法填空。用单词的适当形式完成短文。阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。(共10小题,每小题1.5分,记15分) Cats never fail to fascinate human beings. They can be friendly and 1 (affection) towards humans, but they lead mysterious lives of their own as well. They never become submissive like dogs and horses. As a result, humans have learned to respect feline independence. Most cats remain suspicious of humans all their lives. One of the things 2 fascinates us most about cats is the popular belief that they have nine lives. Apparently, there is a good deal of truth in this idea. A cat’s ability to survive 3 is based on fact. Recently the New York Animal Medical Center made a study of 132 cats over a period of five months. All these cats had one experience in common: they had fallen 4 high buildings, yet only eight of them died from shock or injuries. Of course, New York is the ideal place for such an interesting study, 5 there is no shortage of tall buildings. There 6 (be) plenty of high-rise windowsills to fall from! One cat, Sabrina, fell 32 storeys, yet only suffered from 7 broken tooth. “Cats behave like well-trained paratroopers,” a doctor said. It seems that the 8 (far) cats fall, the less they are likely to injure themselves. In a long drop, they reach speeds of 60 miles an hour and more. At high speeds, falling cats have time 9 (relax). They stretch out their legs like 10 (fly) squirrels. This increases their air-resistance and reduces the shock of impact when they hit the ground. 2. 阅读理解。主旨大意。(共1小题,每小题2.5分,记2.5分) Which can be a suitable title for the text? A.Cats and humans B.Flying cats C.Mysterious animals D.How do cats live? 【参考答案】 一、语法填空 affectionate that falls off because a are further to relax flying 二、阅读理解 B 【详细解析】 affectionate(形容词,与 friendly 并列,需用形容词形式) that(定语从句引导词,修饰 things,且有one of the限定,从句缺主语且指物,只能用that,不能用which) falls(ability to do sth固定结构,需动词原形;survive是动词,此处“survive falls”指在坠落中生存) off(fall off=从表面跌落,fall from=从高处/位置跌落。此处指从建筑物表面坠落) because(连词,表原因,“因为纽约不缺高楼”, “as/since”语法正确但非最佳,高考优先用“because”) are(主语 plenty of high-rise windowsills 为复数,需用 be 动词复数形式) a(不定冠词,修饰单数可数名词 tooth,表“一颗断牙”) further(比较级,固定句型 “the + 比较级..., the + 比较级...”, further表程度更深) to relax(固定结构 have time to do sth.) flying(现在分词作定语,修饰 squirrels,表“飞鼠”) 文章主体(约70%)在描述猫从高处坠落时的生理特性和生存能力(实验数据、动作分析、科学解释)。 Songbirds do have a perfect voice. Every species of bird wakes up at a very particular time in the morning and begins to sing. This is because each species has its own specific waking stimulus (刺激), which is linked to the brightness of the sunlight. Like human beings who have to learn to speak, birds also have to learn how to sing. They do this in several stages. First, they practice voices and sounds, which is comparable to the early stage in human language development. During the second stage, the birds practice their song for eight to nine months, until memory and practice match up. The singing is strengthened during the final stage. Although nightingales got their name as a result of their singing at night, not all nightingales sing at night. Generally, both males and females sing during the day. The night song is used mainly for seeking partners. After succeeding in attracting a female, the male nightingale falls silent and doesn’t start his song again until the early morning. Birds are seasonal singers. We only hear numerous kinds of bird concerts between spring and high summer. This is the time when birds are looking for partners, and when the males aim to mark out their territory (地盘). Even after finding a partner, males continue to sing when they are showing their offspring (幼崽) how to sing. Birds don’t all sing as well as others, not even within a species (物种). The song of a bird in   London will be quite different from that of a bird in Paris or Berlin. Although the members of each bird species share a vocabulary of sounds, dialectal (方言的) differences are quite common. The individual dialects are not natural but are learnt while birds are still young, just as children adopt the dialect of their parents. The young birds always sing as well or as badly as their teachers, whose style and talent are different from area to area. 1. Why do different species of birds sing at different times in the morning? A.They have different models of memory. B.They prefer different weather conditions. C.They react to the brightness differently. D.They have different reference objects of waking up. 2. What’s the main reason for the male nightingale’s singing at night? A.To enlarge its territory. B.To teach its offspring. C.To drive enemies away. D.To draw females’ attention. 3. What mainly determines a bird’s sound of singing? A.Its inborn talent. B.Its learning ability. C.Its species’ popularity. D.Its growing environment. 4. What is the best title of the text? A.The Science of Birds’ Singing B.Language Development of Birds C.The Seasonal Change of Birdsongs D.The Difference of Dialects in Bird Communication 【详细解析】 1. Why do different species of birds sing at different times? 答案:C(They react to the brightness differently) 解析: 原文依据:首段"waking stimulus linked to the brightness of sunlight"(唤醒刺激与阳光亮度相关) 选项对比: A(记忆模式不同)→ 未提及 B(偏好不同天气)→ 无依据 C(对光线反应不同)→ 直接对应原文 D(不同参考物)→ 偷换概念(原文强调光线,非参考物) 2. This behavior has led to a popular comparison for attraction, “like a moth to a flame.” However, according to a new study, it turns out that insects aren’t “attracted” to artificial lights, but rather confused by it. The new finding is based on a theory about insect orientation (定位). Due to their small and lightweight bodies, insects experience less air resistance, allowing them to achieve higher accelerations (加速度), which in turn makes it challenging for them to sense up and down during flight. So, they typically rely on stable light sources like the moon and stars to orient themselves at night, keeping the sky at their backs to stay upright. However, the introduction of artificial lights confuses their natural sense of direction. The insects you see circling street lights, in other words, are probably lost. To reach these conclusions, scientists used high-resolution cameras to film insects flying around artificial lights in Costa Rica. They also attached tiny sensors to insects and filmed motion-capture videos of them in flight. In this way, researchers can slow down the insects’ pace and study their movements in greater detail. The videos showed insects turning their backs toward sources of artificial light—even at the price of flipping over or crashing. This can be dangerous for insects, as circling around artificial lights can put them at risk from enemies, exhaustion, and starvation, causing many to die before morning. Night artificial light is a major cause of insect population loss, which could severely impact crop pollination and food supplies for larger animals, including humans. “Insects have been flying around for 370 million years, and it’s just in the last 150 years that it’s really gone wrong for them,” says entomologist Samuel Fabian. “If we don’t want to influence large amounts of insect populations, we should not have lights shining up into the sky.” 1. Why do insects circle street lights according to scientists? A.They are attracted by street lights. B.They can sense up and down more easily. C.They experience less air resistance around street lights. D.They can’t find their way due to the disturbance of street lights. 2. How did the scientists conduct the experiment? A.By detecting the living environment of insects. B.By making videos to study insects’ movements. C.By monitoring the insects’ brain activity during flight. D.By building models to analyze insects’ motion patterns. 3. Why does the author mention Fabian’s words in the last paragraph? A.To stress the long history of insect flight. B.To appeal to people to reduce light pollution. C.To show the importance of insects to food supplies. D.To remind people of the influence human activities have on insects. 4. Which is the most suitable title for the text? A.How Artificial Lights Impact the Ecosystem B.What Leads to the Loss of Insect Populations C.How Insects Locate Themselves in the Flight D.What’s the Truth Behind Moths Flying to Flames 【详细解析】 1. Why do insects circle street lights according to scientists? 答案:D(They can’t find their way due to the disturbance of street lights) "artificial lights confuse their natural sense of direction"(人造光干扰方向感) "The insects you see circling street lights... are probably lost"(昆虫因迷失方向而盘旋) 选项对比: A(被灯光吸引)→ 被研究明确否定("not attracted, but confused") B(更容易感知上下)→ 与原文矛盾(灯光使其失去方向感) C(空气阻力小)→ 是昆虫飞行特性,非环绕灯光的原因 D(灯光干扰导致迷路)→ 直接对应"confused"和"lost" 2. How did the scientists conduct the experiment? 答案:B(By making videos to study insects’ movements) "used high-resolution cameras to film insects"(高清摄影记录) "filmed motion-capture videos... to slow down and study movements"(慢动作分析) 选项对比: A(检测生存环境)→ 未提及环境分析 B(视频研究运动)→ 核心方法 C(监测大脑活动)→ 未涉及脑科学 D(建模分析)→ 未提到模型构建 3. (79 words) 作文: Human beings like to keep dogs and cats. Dogs are submissive and faithful to their masters, but cats like to be independent. Cats are especially lovable when they are still kittens. As kittens they like to play by chasing anything that moves. That's how they learn to hunt mice, birds, insects and other small creatures. A lot of people keep cats so they can have a pet. As kittens grow into cats, they like to stay indoors. They like regular meals and enjoy sleeping in front of a nice fire. However, they also like going out. During the day time and at night they like to go hunting. Sometimes during the night they have fights with other cats. Cats are very clean animals. You often see them washing themselves. Human beings are fascinated by their behaviour because cats are domestic animals, while at the same time they enjoy their independence. (150 words) Page 1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
