A great many of my previous teachers have left a lasting impression on me that will never be forgotten. One name stands out in particular, and that is Mr Jesse Barrett. Mr Barrett taught me English in high school. Honestly, I could not have asked for a better teacher. Initially, I did not enjoy English due to some teachers who constantly lectured on irrelevant topics. But Mr Barrett changed my outlook on life and helped me regain my passion for English. He never accepted late work, which taught me how to be prompt, a skill that will be beneficial when I attend college next fall. Mr Barrett loved teaching, and he would sound so excited when we read The Great Gatsby, creating an atmosphere that causes students to feel comfortable and at ease. Everyone anticipated going to class and was quick to engage in discussions about the current book. Although he was very kind and helpful, when any issue arose, he was a very strict and concerned educator. Discipline(纪律) was strictly enforced in his classroom, which inspired me to be the best student I could possibly be. Mr Barrett has a method where he asks for advice and invites students to participate in class activities. Students are divided into groups in which they can help one another answer questions. It is an exceptional way of learning English. Whether he realizes it or not, Mr Barrett has influenced me tremendously. He simply guided me toward success and I am honored to have been in such a rigorous (严格的) and competitive class. The challenge for me was really the driving force that connected me to him, because I never felt as if the work was too easy or vague. Today, I honestly still believe he has helped me in such a way that it will continue to shape my post-secondary career. 4.What does the author emphasize in the first paragraph? A.Mr Barrett’s lasting impressions on him. B.Mr Barrett’s impact on his view of life. C.Mr Barrett’s unforgettable unique name. D.Mr Barrett’s approach of teaching English. 5.Why did the author feel bored of English at first? A.Because some teachers were too hard on the students in class. D.Because some teachers often wasted time on topics off the book. 6.What does the underlined word “prompt” mean in the passage? A.Quick in action. B.Effective in learning. C.Positive in life. D.Active in communication. 7.What can we infer from the author’s success? A.A kind teacher makes his students feel easy to learn. B.A passionate teacher is inspirational to his students. C.Taking learning seriously results in excellent grades. D.The environment of a class is important to students. C Every school has students who stand out for their abilities and their eagerness (渴望) to learn. In Mexico, a school created a program to work with them. In 2019. both teachers Lotta Andersson and John Rennie got the idea to provide learning opportunities for students with a desire for knowledge. They are English coordinators (协调员) in the school. “We want to have a program to encourage students who really have the abilities and the interests to learn more and continue accepting challenges,” Andersson said during a recent interview. Students in the program, which was called Learning Challenges, met with the teachers about once a month. Andersson and Rennie would help us choose research topics. We then worked with the teachers to find books, interview subjects and Internet sources, While in Learning Challenges, I gave statements on European culture and the fashion industry. When asked what skills students had formed in the program, which ended in June 2020 because of the limits of a common disease. Andersson said, “They had learned to ask questions, be more open-minded and see things from different angles (角度). Also, they mastered the skills-reflecting more, acting actively, and learning not to put limits on themselves.” A student, Yihane Abed, carried out research on the sun, the moon, stars, planets, etc, while in Learning Challenges. “The skills I developed were teamwork and the ways to do research and give a good presentation,” she said. Andersson and Rennie continue to help students pursue their love of learning. “The program doesn’t exist formally, but as an important part of the culture at school, it is still needed,” Andersson said. “There is much more difference, not only for students who need extra help, but also for those who are higher achievers.” 8.What’s the purpose of creating Learning Challenges? D The owner of a business is hoping to help save lives by offering adaptive swim lessons to children and adults with disabilities. The classes are taught by Julie Cordiero and her staff at Jr’s Swim School. Cordiero says she came up with the idea when she saw a specific need while teaching swim lessons at another school in 2017. “The number one cause of accidental death among kids with autism (自闭症) is drowning (溺水), and in Arizona, there are pools everywhere.” said Cordiero. “Autistic children are easily attracted to large bodies of water. so they might not have safety skills when they want to jump into a body of water.” Cordiero added Cordiero’s classes teach survival skills, balance and strength to children with special needs in a personalized way. “We see a lot of different sensory levels and needs at our swim school and our staff really does have the training strategies to work through those appropriately,” said Cordiero. Cordiero also has regular meetings with students’ families, and after each meeting. Cordiero will adapt each swim lesson to help set each student up for success. Ann Snyder says her son James is nonverbal (不会说话的) and has loved the water now more than ever since he started taking classes at Jr’s Swim School. Aimee Craumer, whose 11-year-old daughter Macayla takes classes, says safety boundaries are taught repeatedly and that gives their family peace of mind. Instructors at Jr’s Swim School are devoted to helping those with disabilities become more confident in the water, and they use nontraditional teaching methods to help students overcome the most common barriers they see during swim lessons. “We want to create something that is unique and really suits a population that is just as worthy of learning a lifesaving skill as the rest of the population. A lot of passion and patience goes into what we do but we are making a huge difference and that is a good feeling,” said Cordiero. 12.What issue does Cordiero aim to address through adaptive swim lessons? A.Anxiety related to water B.Lack of interest in swimming C.Drowning risks for disabled people. D.Inaccessibility of swimming facilities. 13.What does Jr’s Swim School’s way of teaching stress? I loved school: the smell of chalk and colored crayons (蜡笔) and having my own desk that was just my size. However, there was one big problem with school — Mary. Daily when I walked the short distance home after school, Mary would hit me and scare me. I was absolutely frightened of her. She had failed first grade and was a year older than me. Mary didn’t have any friends, so she seemed to concentrate on making enemies (树敌). Because I was one of the smallest children in first grade, she had selected me as her number one enemy. As soon as the bell rang each day, my heart started to pound (剧烈地跳动) and I blinked (眨眼) fast so I wouldn’t cry. Pretty soon my mother figured out something was wrong at school. I didn’t want to tell her about Mary. Mother continued to question me, and I finally sobbed out (哭诉) the whole story. I begged not to go to school and didn’t sleep much that night. The next morning she said, “Linda, I’m going to walk up the hill with you today. I believe we’ll see Mary.” Mary walked from way across down to school. She never bothered me on the way to school, only afterward. “Oh, mama, please don’t do that! Don’t say anything to Mary. It will just make her mad. Let me stay home by myself. Please, mama.” “Hurry and get dressed, Linda.” Her voice was gentle, but quite firm. “Ple-e-ease, mama.” “Trust, Linda. I have a plan.” We bundled up (穿上保暖衣物) against the freezing cold wind and stared out. Maybe we wouldn’t see Mary, I hoped. But my mother had this confident look. I knew the look well, and I had a sinking feeling that we would see Mary and that mother would use her “plan”. Just as we turned around at a corner, we spotted (发现) Mary. We waited a few moments as she approached us. “Hello, Mary,” my mother said softly. Paragraph 1: Mary stopped, frozen as still as a sculpture. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Mary chewed on (咬住) her bottom lip and then nodded. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ Unit 1 Back to school单元测试 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. A We are excited to announce the upcoming Annual School Science Fair, an event aiming at fostering (培养) a love for science and innovation among students for their intellectual (智力的) development. Whether we realize it or not, teachers’ influence can alter a student’s perspective on life. A great many of my previous teachers have left a lasting impression on me that will never be forgotten. One name stands out in particular, and that is Mr Jesse Barrett. Mr Barrett taught me English in high school.(很多时候,我们并没有意识到老师对我们的影响有多大。 根据文章第二段“Initially, I did not enjoy English due to some teachers who constantly lectured on irrelevant topics.(起初,因为一些老师总是讲解与课本无关的内容,所以我并不喜欢英语。)” 故选A。 7. 根据文章最后一段“Whether he realizes it or not, Mr Barrett has influenced me tremendously. He simply guided me toward success and I am honored to have been in such a rigorous (严格的) and competitive class. The challenge for me was really the driving force that connected me to him, because I never felt as if the work was too easy or vague. Today, I honestly still believe he has helped me in such a way that it will continue to shape my post-secondary career.(无论他是否意识到,Barrett先生对我产生了巨大的影响。 B。 C Every school has students who stand out for their abilities and their eagerness (渴望) to learn. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Mary stopped, frozen as still as a statue. Mother bent down to Mary’s level, holding her hands gently as she spoke, “I’m Linda’s mother. I need your help, Mary.” Out of expectation, Mary looked at my mother, confused and shocked. At that moment, I just stood there praying my mother’s plan would be over quickly. Then, my mother continued, “Linda needs a best friend to walk home with her after school. Would you be Linda’s friend, Mary?” Mary chewed on her bottom lip and then nodded. “Oh, thank you!” my mother said gratefully and joyfully. Then she gave both Mary and me a big hug, and called to us, “Bye, girls. Have a good day.” Mary and I walked on to school, both staring straight ahead without speaking. But I noticed Mary was smiling. I’ve never seen her smile before. From that day, we walked each day after school together, and soon we were talking, laughing and sharing secrets. Gradually, Mary had more friends and smiled a lot. It was right then that I knew my mother’s plan had worked. 词汇激活 行为类 ①握住某人的手:hold one’s hand/take one’s hand ②继续:continue/go on ③注意到:notice/be aware 情绪类 ①震惊:shocked/astonished ②感激:gratefully/thankfully 【点睛】[高分句型1] At that moment, I just stood there praying my mother’s plan would be over quickly.(由现在分词作状语) [高分句型2] It was right then that I knew my mother’s plan had worked.
