【原文】M: Hello, everyone. I’ve come to talk to you today about a really successful product: coffee! As some stories say, coffee was first consumed in Ethiopia, in Africa, dating back to the fifteenth century. However, a popular tale identifies the ninth century as when coffee was originally consumed as a drink. By the seventeenth century, it was enjoyed worldwide. The tale goes that an Ethiopian farmer, Kaldi, spotted that his goats became energetic and didn’t sleep once they’d consumed the red, coffee beans. Then he took some of the beans with him. In those days, there was no professional chefs, so instead he gave them to a local leader, who initially rejected them and threw them onto a fire. The smell of the roasting beans changed his mind, leading him to create a tasty hot drink. Coffee quickly spread to Yemen in southern Arabia. Not only was it enjoyed in people’s homes, but also in the world’s earliest coffee shops. As the popularity grew in Europe, coffee shops appeared there too and became centers of social activity. Later, the British took coffee to North America.

The Blue Mountains, one of Australia’s most visited national parks, is a World Heritage-listed treasure. Yet, instead of leaving only footprints, visitors are leaving behind a trail of destruction. When I moved here three years ago, I was excited to live among stuch natural beauty, but the reality has been disheartening. Over lunch, a friend mentioned finding human waste on the Leura Cascades trail, ruining my appetite. Days later, a quickly spread Facebook video showed a man shouting angrily about similar issues at a swimming spot in Linden. I knew the Blue Mountains were struggling, but this level of disrespect was shocking.
Determined to make a difference, my friend Jess and I decided to act. Armed with trash bags and a dose of optimism, we started cleaning up popular trails and hidden spots. From famous canyons to a“secret” infinity (无边) pool, we’ ve collected cigarette ends, plastic bottles, food wrappers, and even abandoned socks and gloves. The infinity pool was the worst, with over 100 visitors littering faster than we could say, “Oh, you!”
While our efforts feel like a drop in the ocean, I believe every action counts. The Blue Mountains are home to unique plants, clear rivers, and rare wildlife. It’s heartbreaking to see such beauty disrespected.
Some locals suggest limiting access to protect vulnerable areas, but locking nature away feels wrong. Instead, we need practical solutions. Education is key, but signs and diagrams alone won’t change behavior. Influencers who promote these spots must lead by example, encouraging followers to respect the environment.
Sadly, some people simply don’t care. I’ ve seen it firsthand— like the man who threw a lit cigarette into dry bushland despite being reminded of the fire ban. His behaviour was an absolute reminder of the challenges we face.
Despite the disappointment, I remain hopeful. By taking action and inspiring others to do the same, we can protect the Blue Mountains for generations to come. After all, this isn’t just a park— it’s a global treasure worth fighting for.
24. What problem is Blue Mountains facing currently?
A. It’s being polluted. B. It’s suffering over tourism.
C. It’s full of footprints. D. It’s over developed.
25. Which can best describe the author?
A. Pessimistic. B. Responsible. C. Energetic. D. Adventurous.
26. What is the probable meaning of the underlined word“vulnerable” in paragraph 5?
A. Very beautiful. B. Very available. C. Easily hurt. D. Easily accessible.
27. What will the author do next?
A. Cooperate with locals to limit entry to the park.
B. Stop cleaning up the trails because of disappointment.
C. Rely on the next generation to better the environment.
D. Encourage others to join him to protect the mountains.
【答案】24. A 25. B 26. C 27. D

Dreaming appears to have little connection to work. However, new research shows that when dreams are first recalled (回忆), people often draw connections between their dreams and waking lives, and the connections they draw affect how they think, feel and act at work.
The team performed the studies that collectively captured approximately 5,000 morning reports of dream recall among full-time employees. The researchers issued morning field study, a single-day morning-to-afternoon study, and a two-week experience sampling study.
“An awe-inspiring dream is highly impactful and memorable, often involving extraordinary experiences or interactions. For example, we arrive at work shortly after interacting with our loved ones who have passed away, narrowly escaping or performing arts of amazing ability.” Belinda, the chief of the study, said. “These experiences bleed into and affect our waking lives, including how productive we are at work.”
Assume you recall an awe-inspiring dream in the morning, and then later in the afternoon, your boss tells you to conduct 10 more interviews than you were expecting to do. You might now think that it’s not that big a deal because your awe-inspiring dream just puts everything into perspective. You have a greater realization that there’s a bigger world out there and you’re just part of it.
“So, get a good night’s sleep for waking wonder!” Belinda added. Studies show that dreams appear. in all stages of sleep and are impactful. However, the most vivid dreams—those most likely to have meaning and create waking wander—appear during REM sleep. Because REM sleep takes place late in a given sleep cycle (循环), getting enough and high-quality sleep will help you get the most out of your dreams. Sleep tracking devices can show when and how much time you spend in REM sleep, which help improve sleep schedules to increase the chance of having awe-inspiring dreams. For both managers and employees, how much or how well people sleep really means a lot, which can increase productivity at work.
32. What is paragraph 2 intended to explain?
A. Why a dream is recorded. B. How the study is conducted.
C. What the study revealed. D. Who joined in the research.
33. Which is an awe-inspiring dream according to paragraphs 3 and 4?
A. Failing a tough test. B. Meeting with strangers.
C. Saving people like a superman. D. Being stuck in a traffic accident.
34. What does the last paragraph recommend?
A. Sleep-tracking study. B. Quality sleep.
C. Waking wonder. D. Healthy living habits.
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Dreams can be channeled for productivity. B. Dreams impact all sleep stages.
C. Dreams contribute to one’s mental health. D. Dreams are attracting greater attention worldwide.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As the next school’s concert band took their places onstage, the stage lights in the music hall dimmed. a young man, the First Chair violinist (首席小提琴) , called upon each section to play, tuning them with precision and grace. The moment the musical director appeared, a wave of applause filled the air.
The annual High School Music Festival was the highlight of my year. As a music teacher, I never missed a session, always amazed by the extraordinary talents the musical directors inspired in their students. But this year might be my last visit. With age catching up, my desire for retirement was growing stronger.
Honestly, there was always a touch of dissatisfaction and envy in my heart as I watched these school bands, because I had never been able to develop a band to this level. I taught in a small primary school. My students played beginner music, and they were happy when we managed to play from the start all the way to the end of a piece, with all the instruments finishing together. The complexities of full tone, dynamic control, and balance were beyond their abilities.
As the band opened with their first piece, the striking sound of violins, accompanied by the lively notes of pianos, set my heart pounding. Wouldn’t it be great to be the musical director for one of these massive high school bands? I thought as the music transported me. When the last notes rang out, there was a brief silence before thunderous applause erupted. My aging eyes scanned the stage, seeking familiar faces among the performers. But my vision was no longer sharp enough to recognize anyone.
During the tea break, I headed toward the entrance hall. “Miss Jones! ” a young man’s voice cut through the crowd. I recognized the concert uniform he was wearing. It was the very violinist I had been admiring. Puzzled, I searched his face for familiar features. It turned out to be Bradley, a former student of mine who was difficult to forget. Schoolwork had been hard for him, and he had struggled through all his subjects. It was a pleasant surprise to meet him here. We sat down and had a chat.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I remembered the day when he asked to join the school band.

I was still smiling as I made my way back to the music hall.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】范文
I remembered the day when he asked to join the school band. I was initially hesitant, aware of his academic struggles and the complexity of the music we were rehearsing. Yet, the determined gleam in little Bradley’s eyes moved me. I agreed, tailoring parts of the music piece to let him shine without being overwhelmed. “It was you who set me on the music path,” Bradley spoke with gratitude. He then recounted his musical journey with the violin, from junior to senior high school, ultimately landing the lead role of First Chair in his school’s concert band. I listened attentively, amazed at the transformative power of music. As he returned to his band, a proud smile spread across my face.
I was still smiling as I made my way back to the music hall. As I took my seat, my heart swelled with quiet pride in knowing the role I had played in a young man’s music journey. The lights dimmed again, and the stage came alive with the energy of young musicians. They began to play, each note resonating with the memory of the first tentative sounds my students had made under my guidance. As the final piece began, I closed my eyes, letting the music wash over me. The music hall, once a place of my longing and unfulfilled dreams, now echoed with a life well-spent in the service of art and education.

The Blue Mountains one of Australia’s most visited national parks, is a World Heritage-listed treasure.

I remembered the day when he asked to join the school band.
