(23-24高一上·贵州贵阳·阶段练习)School is, waking up early in the morning, whether it is hot or cold, putting on the school uniform and rushing to the bus stop to catch the school bus and getting used to the words “Hurry up! You will be late!” You reach school and again the same words “Hurry up!” do not let you relax.
Throughout the day, it is a mad rush. One period gets over, the other starts and you are ready for the second subject. When you forget to do your homework, you try to sit at the back and pretend to be looking for something on the floor or in your bag. You are lucky if you are not seen and it is bad luck if you get caught. If you are not lucky, be ready for a good scolding during break or after school. If you are lucky and your teacher is in a good mood, you may be left with a warning.
However, school is not so dull all the time. The games, library periods and breaks are a welcome time, when you can relax, joke and have fun with your friends. There are some teachers, too, who can make school very exciting. For example, Mr. Taneja, has a typical style of talking, making us always hooked on the playground.
School can be fun, real fun, when picnics and field trips are organized. We wait for them eagerly and keep on requesting our class teacher to organize one for us. Debates, quizzes, cultural programs also add luster (光泽) to an otherwise dull school life. Fun increases after really hard work and you tend to enjoy more than those who have been lazy and have wasted their time. I think this period of your life is the most wonderful period — full of dreams and hope.

(24-25高一上·湖南邵阳·阶段练习)Growing up, David Flink struggled (努力) in school though he was smart. He had a hard time focusing in class, and he didn’t understand why he couldn’t learn the way other students did. “I could either be the silent kid or I could be the bad kid. So, I started acting out,” he said. Flink was often asked to leave the classroom because of the trouble he caused.
“At one point, my desk was moved to the hallway,” he said. “But then I had this message sent to me that I didn’t belong (适应) in a classroom.”
It was in a hallway where Flink met his first mentor (导师), the school cleaner. “He got to know me, and finally we started playing chess,” Flink said. “There was no need for him to take an interest in my life, but he did anyhow. And that saved me.”
With the support of his parents and the right school, Flink graduated high school and went to Brown University. When he got to college, he found a community of students who also had learning differences. Together with five of them, Flink started a mentoring program for nearby primary school students who had a learning disability. They called the program Eye to Eye.
Since 1998, Eye to Eye has grown into a nationwide non-profit organization that pairs middle school children who have a learning difference with a college or high school mentor who also has a learning difference. Eye to Eye’s curriculum (课程) uses art as a self-expression tool. Every lesson tries to move students from self-doubt to confidence.
While Flink enjoys hearing about the academic (学业的) success Eye to Eye brings to children, there’s something more he finds satisfying. “It’s satisfying when I hear that because they were in Eye to Eye, they now better understand somebody else’s experience who’s different from them — this is what we need,” Flink said. “We have to love each other across our differences.”
1.What problem did Flink have as a student?
A.He couldn’t write. B.He wasn’t very smart.

A.By showing an interest in his life. B.By encouraging him to be brave.
C.By introducing him to a university. D.By advising him to enter chess competitions.

A.To draw attention to art education.
B.To teach children about making friends.
C.To help students who have learning differences.
D.To get more people to receive higher education.
4.What area of children’s development does Flink care more about?
A.Their personal experiences. B.Their academic achievement.

(24-25高一上·新疆伊犁·阶段练习)EDGEWOOD — Every morning at Dixie Heights High School, customers pour into a special experiment: the district’s first coffee shop run mostly by students with special learning needs.
Well before classes start, students and teachers order Lattes, Cappuccinos and Hot Chocolates. Then, during the first period, teachers call in orders on their room phones, and students make deliveries. By closing time at 9:20 a.m., the shop usually sells 90 drinks. “Whoever made the chi tea, Ms. Schatzman says it was good,” Christy McKinley, a second year student, announced recently, after hanging up with the teacher.
The shop is called the Dixie PIT, which stands for Power in Transition. Although some of the students are not disabled, many are, and the PIT helps them prepare for life after high school. They learn not only how to run a coffee shop but also how to deal with their affairs. They keep a timecard and receive paychecks, which they keep in check registers. Special-education teachers Kim Chevalier and Sue Casey introduced the Dixie PIT from a similar program at Kennesaw Mountain High School in Georgia. Not that it was easy. Chevalier’s first problem to overcome was product-related. Should schools be selling coffee? What about sugar content?
Kenton County Food Service Director Ginger Gray helped. She made sure all the drinks, which use non-fat milk, fell within nutrition (营养) guidelines. The whole school has joined in to help. Teachers agreed to give up their lounge (休息室) in the mornings. Art students painted the name of the shop on the wall. Business students designed the paychecks. The basketball team helped pay for cups.

(24-25高一上·河北邯郸·阶段练习)I`m an immigrant (移民) from China, and I found that in Quebec I had to learn French, which was a totally strange language to me. After waiting for half a month, I received a letter from my school, St-Luc, and began learning French in a welcome class, which is a class for new immigrants. Even though French was rather hard for me to speak and to understand, I began my secondary five studies the next year.
The first few days were terrible, especially the first class of the first day. Although I had been in St-Luc for one year, I still didn’t know much about the school. The first problem that I had was finding my classroom. Luckily, I met a girl who was in my French class and my chemistry class.
After the bell rang, the teacher, Mme. Zarif, began her class. First, she introduced herself to everyone and then gave us the course outline (概述) for the entire year. During her class, everyone laughed many times. Although I could only understand a little bit, I could tell that she was very funny.
At the end of her speech, to make sure that we didn’t forget what we had learned in secondary four, Mme. Zarif gave us a paper with many symbols of elements (元素) on it and asked us to write their names in French. I was shocked when I received the paper. Honestly, the only symbol I knew was O. After having stared at the paper for a few minutes, I gave up and raised my hand. The teacher came, and I told her that I didn’t know anything.
“You have forgotten everything already?” she said surprisedly. “No,” I answered, “I have never learned them in French before. I am from the welcome class.” “Oh,” the teacher said with a look of understanding. “Come here after school. I will teach them to you.”
I agreed. Finally, I handed in the paper with only one answer on it. On the whole, my first day of secondary five was a little embarrassing but, at the same time, interesting.

(24-25高一上·河南郑州·阶段练习)No wonder every one wants compatible (意趣相投) roommates. It is they who will keep you in company throughout the following years in life and study at school. The more suitable the roommates are, the more lovely the life will be on campus. With the coming of the new term, more and more universities in China are experimenting some innovative strategies to help students find roommates of similar interest for themselves based on shared lifestyle habits.
The Communication University of China in Beijing, for example, has developed a mini-program, allowing new students the opportunity to preview dormitory layouts and bed arrangements. The platform also enables students to explain and list their own daily routines, including preferences for decorations, sleep schedules and more to look for and attract roommates of the same taste. Those who are not interested in this process will be allocated (分配) roommates at random.
The introduction of this program was to encourage freshmen to share their lifestyle habits in chat groups. And allowing students to take part in the selection of both dormitories and roommates before official registration is a policy where the diverse nature of student personalities are fully considered and has resulted in wonderful outcomes.
Now this kind of program has been produced in many universities and has got a large amount of support from many educators for delivering a good start for students’ university journey. It should be noted that although handpicking roommates might not solve all the interpersonal problems, it can still be a learning experience. In the process students who make these choices will learn to take responsibility for the outcomes of their decisions.

(24-25高一上·云南昭通·期末)Languages are windows to different cultures, allowing us to connect with others from around the world. But learning a new language not just has a simple conversation or has access to different words, concepts.
A study by Dr. Thomas Bak who is a lecturer at Edinburgh’s School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences showed that bilingual (双语的) young learners performed better on attention tests and had better concentration than those who spoke only one language. Dr. Bak tested 853 participants in 1947, when they were all 11 years old, and retested them when they were in their early 70s. He found that bilingual learners performed better than expected. The strongest effects were seen in general intelligence and reading. The results showed that learning a new language in adulthood still has positive results.
There is another study visualize the benefits of learning a new language on the brain. The researchers conducted the study on two groups of scholars; One that studied languages and another that studied non-linguistic subjects. The MRI scans showed that the brains of the participants studying languages increased in size, while the brain sizes of the other group remained the same. The studies suggest the bilingualism improves the brain’s executive (可执行的) function. Learning another language is one of the most effective and practical ways to increase intelligence, keep your mind sharp, and buffer (减缓) your brain against aging.
“As a language learner, you’ll not only become a more conscious thinker and listener who can communicate clearly and think creatively, but you’ll also gain the most significant benefit of multilingualism: A broader, more global perspective,” writes Dan Roitman of Pimsleur in the Huffington Post.

(24-25高一上·黑龙江·期末)On Mondays, two of my sons get ready for school in an unusual way. Each packs plenty of food and water, a pair of rubber boots and sometimes a cup of hot chocolate. Then, I drop them off at nearby park where they spend the entire day outside at a certified forest school.
When I first signed them up for the forest school program, I loved the idea, but as a mum, I was concerned about a few things: Would they be comfortable outside for that long? Would they stay engaged for that many hours? Then I asked them if time ever seemed to move slowly, and they stared at me in confusion. They didn’t understand my question, which fittingly removed my concern.
In this program, kids direct their own play, climbing tall trees or testing ice on the frozen lake. They are never told their play is too high or too sharp, but are rather trusted to self-adjust. Something else my sons appreciate about the forest school is not being told to move on to the next activity, but being left to stay in a particular spot for as long as their curiosity allows.
“What about all the things they’re missing in real school?” concerned parents have asked me. None of their classroom teachers thinks it’s a problem, but most significantly, my kids are learning new and different skills that a classroom cannot teach. They are learning to sit silently and observe nature up close — a skill that’s virtually impossible to develop in a noisy and overcrowded classroom setting. They are making social connections across a broader range of age groups. They cooperate together, using their different sizes and strength to fulfill various roles within their games.
I appreciate it that the forest school is shaping my boys’ relationship with the outdoors. They’re learning how to spend extended periods of time in nature, what to do to pass the time, and gaining knowledge that will get them much closer to nature in the coming decades.
1.What can be learned about the forest school program?
A.It offers unique food and drinks.
B.Teachers engage in kids’ play.
C.It focuses on environmental protection.
D.Kids play and learn outdoors.
2.How did the author feel about her sons’ reaction to her question?
A.Embarrassed. B.Worried. C.Proud. D.Relieved.
3.What concerns some parents?
A.Children’s safety. B.Children’s book learning.
C.Children’s health. D.Children’s diet.
4.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Nature: a wonderland for getting connected B.Parks are replacing traditional schools
C.The forest school: a fine place for my kids D.The forest school program proves popular

After waiting for half a month, I received a letter from my school, St-Luc, and began learning French in a welcome class, which is a class for new immigrants.
“You have forgotten everything already?” she said surprisedly. “No,” I answered, “I have never learned them in French before. I am from the welcome class.” “Oh,” the teacher said with a look of understanding. “Come here after school. I will teach them to you.”

【答案】1.D 2.D 3.B 4.C
