You'd think she’s been a teacher all her professional life. Students love going to her classes. She never has any trouble from any of them because her lessons are so interesting that everyone just listens to everything she says. She shows a lot of excitement about her subject and she really knows how to make her lessons interesting.
The other day we found out her secret, the reason why she's so good. Before she was a teacher, she spent more than 20 years as a war reporter for a newspaper. She spent most of her life reporting from countries all over the world, and she learned so much about these places and the people who live there. She loved her job, but when she was 43 years old, she had a child and decided that her job was too dangerous for a mother. She also wanted to be near her own mother, who wasn't very well. That's when she made the decision to be a teacher. I’m so happy she did it. She's such a warm and positive(积极乐观的) person that when you’re in her lessons you don't even feel you’re at school.

①"Money doesn’t grow on trees,"as the saying goes, and learning how to spend money properly is a useful lesson we should all learn. Some young people in China have started to learn that lesson and found that frugality(节俭) is not only a good act, but also can be fun.
②These young people are sharing ways to save money and to become smart buyers. They call themselves "koukouzu". For these people, spending money on big name brands(品牌)or buying milk tea every day after school is wasteful. Some are also deleting shopping apps in order not to buy unnecessary things. Some of these "super savers" have also set up online groups to share information and tips.
③Another way people are saving money is to buy used things. I haven't seen a lot of secondhand shops in Shanghai, but they're very popular in North America. Goodwill and the Salvation Army are two organizations which accept old things that people no longer want-from clothes to books. You can always find some good cheap things there and the best part is that the money you spend is used to help poor people.
④ Another good point of buying secondhand things is that it's good for the environment.
Secondhand things can have a longer life and be used and enjoyed by new owners. Books are a good example of this. I love buying used books because they are passed from hand to hand, perhaps for many years, and it makes me communicate with all the earlier readers.
⑤ Frugality has been taught since the time of Confucius(孔子). But what Confucius probably didn’t know is that frugality can also be fun!
38. What can we learn from the saying in Paragraph 1?
A. Money can help trees grow better.
B. It's necessary to learn to spend money properly.
C. Money is very important to our life.
D. Young people need to try hard to make money.
39. Which of the following is the way of "koukouzu"to save money?
A. Drink milk tea every day.
B. Set up a shopping app on the phone.
C. Buy clothes with big name brands.
D. Share information among online groups.
40. Why does the writer mention that he loves buying used books in Paragraph 4?
A. To encourage us not to throw used books away.
B. To express how much he loves reading books.
C. To introduce a creative way to save much money.
D. To show it is good for environment to buy used things.
41. What is the structure of this passage?
A.① /② ③ /④ /⑤ B.① ② ③ /④ /⑤ C.① ② /③ ④ /⑤ D.① /② ③ /④ ⑤

A woman named Dani Glaeze caught everyone’s eyes after sharing a video of her house she bought in 2024. Dani's isn’t the house you may find in your neighborhood. It was built by a 3D printing machine. It only took the couple a month before they bought the four-bedroom, three washroom house with a guest room and two offices for both Dani and her husband. They also have a big living room, a kitchen and a garden.
Dani is still decorating(装饰) the house. "It's been kind of hard to decorate. Since this home is so special, not everything goes with it,"Dani said.
One of the special parts is that the walls of the house aren’t flat(平坦的) but have lines. "I know that some people were worried about dust(灰尘) collecting in the lines of the walls, which makes it difficult to clean up. But as of right now, we haven' 't had a problem with that,"Dani said. "I can also make walls flat if I wish. But I believe that the lines of the walls can make the home more special. "
The top of her house is made of metal(金属). Could a really strong wind or a storm destroy the house? Dani doesn’t think so. The material that they use is a very special mix. It doesn’t break apart
easily and can continue to be used for a long time.
Yet, there are a few things to consider before moving into a 3D-printed home. "I do know that we have an echo(回声) problem," Dani says. "However, as we continue to live in this home, I believe that will make the sound less strong."
42. Why did Dani's house catch people's eyes?
A. Because it was so big with many rooms.
B. Because Dani spent a whole month buying it.
C. Because it was built by a 3D printing machine.
D. Because Dani shared some pictures of the house.
43. What can we learn from Paragraphs 2 and 3?

D. Dani thought it easy to decorate the house.

Dear Sir,
Last week, our school did a survey of "How to improve myself in my free time?"Now I'm glad to share what I usually do with you. Doing chores is a good way to improve myself, because I think it's important for me to develop the relationship with my parents while doing that. Also, it can help to develop my independence and learn how to look after myself. Another activity I often do is to read classics, such as Alice in Wonderland. Every morning, I read or listen to some interesting stories. As an old saying goes, "Reading makes a full man."I believe I’ve improved a lot from what I read.
All in all, whether doing chores or reading classics, the most important is to keep doing every day.
Yours,
Li Hua
