(2024·南京金陵中学高一统考)I was at a new school in a new state and needed something solid to stand on: a place to feel grounded. I also needed to do laundry, so I walked to a nearby selfservice laundry and stuffed a machine with my clothes. As I struggled to close the washer door, the woman working behind the counter told me to give it a good hit with my hand. The washer did its job, yet even after an hour, the dryer seemed to have barely warmed my clothes. I left, having decided to airdry them on my car in the August heat.
A month later, I learned her name was Sandy, which she told me after I'd helped her stop a washing machine from moving across the floor. I was grading poems at a table when one of the washers broke loose and skipped an inch into the air. I jumped to the machine and held on while she unplugged it. The next week, Sandy told me dryer No.8 was the fastest.
It went on like this. I'd do laundry once a week, usually Thursday or Friday. Sandy worked Tuesday through Saturday and we'd talk small while I folded clothes. She told me about her son and his grades, as well as the new dog they'd just adopted. She was fascinated that I was studying poetry. She teased(开玩笑) that it was harder making a living as a poet than as a laundry attendant. Even then I knew she was probably right.
I began to recognize others there: workers taking breaks by the door, a mother and her baby, and even some delivery drivers. But Sandy was the center of my community. For nearly three years and almost every week, I'd do laundry and talk with her. We checked on each other, expecting the other to be there. We asked where the other had gone when we missed a week. There was a note of concern for the other's absence, a note of joy at their return.
I'd found a place to stand on solid ground.

A.It was harder to fulfill.
B.It was badlypaid work.
C.It was really fascinating.
D.It needed a lot of effort.
7.What can be inferred about the author from the passage?
A.He formed a close friendship with Sandy.

Popularly known as the environmentalist and founder of the international treeplant, Felix Finkbeiner is only 25 years old but he has been urgently at work for over a decade.
In 2006, Finkbeiner was asked to give a presentation on climate change in his class. Inspired by Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai, who led an effort to plant 30 million trees, Felix spoke about deforestation and its effect on the planet. At the end of his talk, he followed with his own fearless idea that a million trees should be planted in each country to fight climate change. He challenged his classmates to help him. One year later, the project named “PlantforthePlanet” was born. It wasn't long before his fearless dream was realized.
When he was just 13, he was invited to speak at a United Nations conference and made the call for others to join him.“We cannot trust that adults alone will save our future,”he said in the speech. “We have to take our future in our own hands.”
Finkbeiner is now in his twenties, and PlantforthePlanet is an organization with around 70, 000 members. It works to teach people about climate change and to encourage the planting of more trees. Finkbeiner has taken over the United Nations' Billion Tree Programme, planning to plant another trillion trees instead.
Finkbeiner continues to give talks on climate change to world leaders. “I don't think we can give up on this generation of adults,” he says, “and wait 20 or 30 years for our generations to come to power. We don't have that time. All we can do is to push present world leaders in the right direction.”
8.Which of the following words can best describe Finkbeiner?
A.Active and friendly.
B.Active and outgoing.
C.Successful and funny.
D.Ambitious and strongwilled.
9.What is NOT true about PlantforthePlanet today?
A.It was set up in 2007.
B.It has many thousands of members.
C.Its aim is to plant one million trees.
D.It teaches people about deforestation.
10.What does the underlined word “deforestation” in the second paragraph probably mean?
A.Removal of forests.
B.Planting of forests.
C.Advantages of forests.
D.Disadvantages of forests.
11.Which of the following is the best summary of Finkbeiner's quote(引用)in the last paragraph?
A.If today' young people have more power, they will make changes easily.
B.Young people need to push those in power to make changes.
C.Today's world leaders set up a good example for young people to follow.
D.Young people can stop getting the support from this generation of adults.

What would happen today, if there was an accident at your workplace? Would employees know what to do? Would the injured person get the best possible care?
When an accident happens, a firstaid programme that meets the requirements of the law and is made to the type and size of the workplace can really make a difference between life and death, or between recovery and lasting disablement (伤残).
Employers should make sure that all employees know where emergency information is posted at the workplace. The emergency notice should show the phone numbers of the closest ambulance service, rescue unit, fire police station, and hospital. The amount of time it takes to look up one of these important numbers can make a big difference to a seriously injured person. The place of firstaid equipment and rescue equipment should also be posted.
All workplaces should have a person with firstaid or medical training in case of an emergency.Firstaid equipment and supplies, including a variety of dressings and instruments, as well as an uptodate firstaid book, should be stored where they can be reached quickly and easily in case of an accident. These supplies should be inspected frequently, making sure they are kept in sanitary (卫生的) and usable conditions and restored after use.Larger workplaces may need more than one fullyequipped firstaid bag.
In lonely workplaces, emergency supplies and an action plan are especially important. At least one person trained in first aid should always be onsite (在现场的).If first aid is not given properly, it can sometimes hurt rather than help an injured person, or even be harmful to the person giving first aid.
All workers should know who is trained to give first aid onsite, where firstaid equipment is put, and what medical professionals or medical instruments should be found if a medical emergency happens.
12.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The importance of a proper firstaid programme at the workplace.
B.The possibility to make a firstaid programme.
C.The requirements of the law about a firstaid programme.
D.Difference between the type and size of the workplace.
13.What should you do for a seriously injured person?
A.Report the present conditions to the employers.
B.Give first aid to him right away all by yourself.
C.Look up and call the emergency telephone numbers quickly.
D.Run to the rescue centre to get firstaid equipment.
14.Why are firstaid equipment and supplies stored in workplaces?
A.To be reached quickly and used to rescue in time.
B.To meet the requirements of the government.
C.To deal with the inspection of higher departments.
D.To make a medical training for the employees.
15.According to the text, what are all workers required to do?
A.Be responsible for the result of the injured person.
B.Know the exact place of firstaid equipment.
C.Be trained to give first aid to the injured in an accident.
D.Be far away from the accident place.

根据文章第二段“A month later, I learned her name was Sandy, which she told me after I'd helped her stop a washing machine from moving across the floor. I was grading poems at a table when one of the washers broke loose and skipped an inch into the air. I jumped to the machine and held on while she unplugged it. The next week, Sandy told me dryer No.8 was the fastest.(一个月后,我才知道她的名字叫Sandy,是在我帮她阻止一台洗衣机在地板上移动后,她告诉我的。当时我正在桌子旁批改诗歌,突然一个洗衣机松开了,飞到空中一英寸。我跳到洗衣机前,抓住不放,她拔下插头。第二个星期,Sandy告诉我8号烘干机是最快的。)”可推知,Sandy告诉作者8号烘干机最快是因为她想对作者表达感谢。故选C。

8.D 推理判断题。根据文章第二段“At the end of his talk, he followed with his own fearless idea that a million trees should be planted in each country to fight climate change. He challenged his classmates to help him. One year later, the project named ‘PlantforthePlanet’ was born. It wasn't long before his fearless dream was realized. (在演讲结束时,他提出了自己大胆的想法,即每个国家都应该种植100万棵树,以应对气候变化。他要求同学们帮助他。一年后,名为‘PlantforthePlanet’的项目诞生了。没过多久,他那无畏的梦想就实现了。)”可知,他拥有远大的志向;而根据第三段“When he was just 13, he was invited to speak at a United Nations conference and made the call for others to join him. ‘We cannot trust that adults alone will save our future,’he said in the speech.‘We have to take our future in our own hands.’ (当他只有13岁的时候,他被邀请在联合国会议上发言,并呼吁其他人加入他。他在演讲中说:‘我们不能相信只有成年人才能拯救我们的未来。’‘我们必须把我们的未来掌握在自己手中。’)”以及最后一段“Finkbeiner continues to give talks on climate change to world leaders. ‘I don't think we can give up on this generation of adults,’ he says, ‘and wait 20 or 30 years for our generations to come to power. We don't have that time. All we can do is to push present world leaders in the right direction.’ (Finkbeiner继续就气候变化问题向世界各国领导人发表演讲。‘我认为我们不能放弃这一代成年人,’他说,‘再等二三十年,等我们这代人掌权。我们没有那么多时间。我们所能做的就是把现在的世界领导人推向正确的方向。’)”可知,Finkbeiner意志无比坚定。故选D。

(砍伐森林。)”符合词意。故选A。
根据文章最后一段“Finkbeiner continues to give talks on climate change to world leaders. ‘I don't think we can give up on this generation of adults,’ he says, ‘and wait 20 or 30 years for our generations to come to power. We don't have that time. All we can do is to push present world leaders in the right direction.’ (Finkbeiner继续就气候变化问题向世界各国领导人发表演讲。‘我认为我们不能放弃这一代成年人,’他说,‘再等二三十年,等我们这代人掌权。我们没有那么多时间。我们所能做的就是把现在的世界领导人推向正确的方向。’)”可知,Finkbeiner指的是如今的年轻人所能做的就是把现在的世界领导人推向正确的方向。故选B。

第二节
One possible version:
But no one was willing to leave. We immediately took quick action to begin the rescue. We first encouraged her to keep calm and build up confidence. We gently removed the blocks one by one. Then we gently lifted her out.She was bleeding from several injuries in her body.During our rescue, there were several small earthquakes occurring and the building shook violently.Without delay, we wheeled her to the treatment room and treated her wounds as quickly as possible. Then we took her downstairs to safety.
My next task was to settle and care for the sick on the ground.I was relieved that the patients and the doctors and nurses had safely escaped from the building. However, because the patients were too weak to stand for long periods of time, I went back to the sickroom to get some quilts and spread them on the grass for the patients to rest on them.I then helped rescue workers set up tents and create a rescue center, and thus the patients recovered their normal treatment.
