For more than a month, the world has been very excited about a new AI model called DeepSeek-R1. The company behind it, also called DeepSeek, is a business based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The new AI first appeared on Jan 20. In just one week, it beat Open AI’s ChatGPT and became number one free app in the AppStore. What is so special about it?
According to DeepSeek, the new AI model is as good at difficult activities like math as other big-time models. But it needs much less computing power to do that. It is also the cheapest of its kind and took only about 5.57 million US dollars (40.58 million yuan) to make. That is way less than the hundreds of millions or even billions that US businesses have to spend on making similar AI models, said Marc Andreessen, a technology expert in the US.
The success happened mainly because the scientists got a good idea while working on it. Instead of using the traditional ways, DeepSeek mainly uses Reinforcement Learning (RL, 强化学习). It helps AI learn by working out the right way to do things on its own to get points. This makes R1 better at reasoning and solving hard problems.
Microsoft engineer Vinayak Hegde said that DeepSeek-R1 is cool because it is a reasoning model. That is a new kind of AI. Other AI models, like GPT-4.0, usually just give direct (直接的) answers. But reasoning models are more like Sherlock Holmes. When they solve a problem, they can also show all the steps they took! AI engineers often train reasoning models in three ways. Let’s see how they are different from each other.
21. What does Paragraph 2 mainly say about DeepSeek-R1?
A. It’s new.
B. It’s popular.
C. It’s special.
D. It’s free.
22 What is one of the strong points of DeepSeek-R1 compared to other AI models?
A. It’s cheaper to develop.
B. It’s smarter than others.
C. It’s better at difficult activities.
D. It’s quicker in solving problems.
23. How does DeepSeek-R1 learn?
A. In a traditional way.
B. Through solving hard problems.
C. By finding the right way to do things independently.
D. By following all kinds of orders from its creators.
24. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The importance of open-source code.
B. The challenges faced by DeepSeek-R1.
C. The differences between AI models.
D. The introduction to DeepSeek-R1.
25. What might the writer continue to write next?
A. Ways to train reasoning models.
B. Different kinds of AI models.
C. The new kind of AI.

D. It’s free.
22. What is one of the strong points of DeepSeek-R1 compared to other AI models?
D. The effects of reasoning model.
C 22. A 23. C 24. D 25. B

(5)They” refers to people who chose to accept less money at once.
根据“Smart people are better able to admit (承认) when they don’t know something.” 根据“Scientists have found a relation between self-control and intelligence (智力).” 故填C;A。
根据“Smart people are better able to admit (承认) when they don’t know something. A study found that the less smart you are, the more you overestimate (高估) yourself.” Tom is probably smarter. Because smart people are better able to admit when they don’t know something, while Steve may overestimate himself.
根据“The results showed that people who chose to accept more at a later date did better on tests. These people had more self-control.” People with more self-control may have higher intelligence according to the 2009 study.
According to the results, people who chose more money after a few days they get higher grades on tests. 与原文中的“The results showed that people who chose to accept more at a later date did better on tests.” The results showed that people who chose to accept more at a later date did better on tests.
根据“In a 2009 study, people who took part in must choose between two rewards (回报): less money that they could get at once or more money that they could get later.” 故填“They” refers to people who chose to accept less money at once.
