Passage1.In the past years the popularity of rock climbing has greatly increased, and so has the number of injuries. It has been estimated that rock climbing is now enjoyed by more than 9 million people in the US each year. Study findings revealed a 65 percent increase in the number of patients that were treated in US emergency departments for rock climbing-related injuries between 2001 and 2021.
The study, published in the online issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, found that about 40,000 patients were treated in US emergency departments for rock climbing-related injuries between 2001 and 2021. The most common types of rock climbing-related injuries were fractures (骨折) and sprains (扭伤). The ankle was the most common body part to be injured (40 percent). Climbers in the study ranged in age from 2 to 74, with an average age of 26. The study also found that women took up a quarter of the injuries.
Falls were the primary reason for injury with over three-quarters of the injuries occurring as the result of a fall. The severity of fall-related injuries had a lot to do with the height of the fall. Patients who were injured after falling from a height over 20 feet were 10 times more likely to be treated than patients who were injured falling from 20 feet or lower.
“We found that the climbers who fell from heights higher than 20 feet took up 70 percent of the patients treated for a rock climbing-related injury,” explained the study author Lara McKenzie, PhD, director at the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Hospital. “This trend, combined with the fact that rock climbers have a higher hospitalization rate than other sports and recreational injuries, demonstrates the need to increase injury prevention efforts for climbers.”

Passage2.The idea of climbing Mt.Qomolangma disgusted me. The mountain came to represent the opposite of everything that I loved and respected about climbing. What had once been the final mountain climbing goal became the focus of a commercial guiding industry. Over the years, the crowds at Base Camp grew, leaving behind tons of trash. Whenever I was asked whether I’d climb Mt.Qomolangma, my answer was always the same: not interested.
That was probably where my personal Mt. Qomolangma story would have ended, were it not for an old friend and his obsession (迷恋) with one of the greatest mysteries. In 1999, Thom Pollard began to explore and found the remains of George Mallory, the celebrated British climber who disappeared while he was attempting to be the first to climb Mt. Qomolangma. But Mallory’s partner, Sandy Irvine, and the camera he had likely carried, were not found. The mountain climbing world has been wondering whether they might have reached the top in 1924.
Pollard’s story moved me. I began to pack for the climb and expected that our advanced equipment would make it manageable, perhaps easy. I was wrong. On the highest point on the planet, I was more tired than I’d ever been in any climbing. Along the way, I continuously tipped_my_hat, not just to Mallory and Irvine but to anyone who has the drive to push himself or herself up this route. My search was in vain, but I began to reconsider Mt. Qomolangma.
I witnessed many climbers, who were much more than just selfcentered tourists. We shared route information, weather forecasts, and family photos—all united around a common goal.
I went to Mt. Qomolangma to seek Irvine. But in the end, I found something more difficult to get: the spirit that Irvine and Mallory shared. It was hiding in plain sight, right where it has always been: inside the brave souls who risk so much to follow in storied adventurers’ footsteps up Mt. Qomolangma.

D.The mountain was too crowded with climbers.
2.Why did the author climb Mt. Qomolangma later?
A.Because he desired to challenge himself.
B.Because he got motivated by Thom Pollard.
C.Because his old friend persuaded him to climb again.
D.Because he wanted to follow the footsteps of Mallory and Irvine.
3.What does the underlined phrase “tipped my hat” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Expressed my gratitude.
B.Proved my determination.

D.Showed my respect.
4.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Admiration for the climbers.
B.Concern about the risk.
C.Confidence in the journey.
D.Hope for Mt. Qomolangma’s future.
Passage3.Rene Compean was no stranger to Angeles National Forest. But after venturing along a new path last April, the 45-year-old mechanic was lost.
As the day faded into dusk, following several hours of aimless roaming, his concern turned to fear. With no flashlight, only a liter of water and a power bar in his backpack, and less than ten percent battery remaining on his cell phone, Compean was unprepared for anything more than the two-hour trek he’d planned. Compean climbed to a spot, some 7,000 feet above sea level, where he found at least one bar of signal. “SOS. My phone is going to die. I’m lost.” He texted a friend, attaching a photo showing where he was. All Compean could do then was wait and hope. But he wouldn’t sleep. After spotting two mountain lions and a bear, he spent the night on high alert.
Sixty miles away in Ventura County, The sheriff’s search-and-rescue teams had spent the previous night unsuccessfully looking for Compean, so they released the photo to the public, hoping someone might know the location.
Ben Kuo, then 47, has an unusual hobby to identify where movie scenes or television shows were filmed. When he saw the blurry image of Compean’s legs surrounded by an endless landscape of rocks and vegetation, he instinctively pulled up a satellite map on his laptop. Then he narrowed his search to the surrounding area. The first thing he noticed in Compean’s photo were patches of greenery. After comparing it to the satellite map, Kuo realized something: “He’s got to be on the south side because there’s not really any green valleys on the north side.”
That finding tightened his search, leading him to an area that resembled the landscape in the image. The final step was cross-referencing the original photo with 3-D images of the area from Google Earth. The locations matched!
Soon, a search-and-rescue team helicopter was in the air, hovering above Compean. After spending 27 hours alone in the wildness, Compean cried, “I’m safe.” Compean’s story probably would have ended very differently had a total stranger with strong satellite skills and a sharp eye for detail not taken action.

Passage4.There is nothing more important than the safety of our children. Did you know that unintentional injury(意外伤害) is the main cause of death in children under 14 years old and with a third of them happening in the home? One of the top reasons a child under the age of three will visit an emergency room is because of household injuries and sadly, 70% of children who die from unintentional injuries are under the age of four. Every room in the home will have its own set of child safety problems. Two of the main danger zones are the kitchen and the bathroom.
Before I became a young mother, I crawled(爬) around the house on my hands and knees to see things from a child’s perspective(视角). You would be amazed at what you can discover by doing something so simple. We didn’t have toilet covers. A child is top heavy because their heads are bigger than their bodies and can easily fall into the toilet.
You might be surprised with the number of children falling out of windows every year, especially during the summer months. Something as simple as a child leaning against a window screen can result in a serious injury. The best way to prevent this type of injury is by setting up a child safety window guard.
As parents, we do the best we can by providing as much protection as possible to make sure of the safety of children. And as there are so many products(产品) out there to help us do this, there is nothing like good old-fashioned supervision(监护). So, use common sense and products that help to keep your child safe, and you will have provided a safe environment for your children.
1.What’s the main reason for death in children under 14 according to Paragraph 1?
A.Age problems. B.No sense of safety.

A.To cover the toilet slowly.
B.To protect her child carefully.
C.To look for something interesting.
D.To discover danger from a child’s point.
3.What should we do to protect children from falling out of windows?
A.Keep away from a window. B.Place a safety window guard.
C.Move away the window screen. D.Lean(倚) against the window firmly.
4.What’s the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Tips on keeping children safe. B.Products for children.
C.Growth speed of children. D.Ways to look after children.
Passage5.Climbers targeting peaks above 5,000 meters in the Xizang autonomous region, including the north side of Qomolangma, now have to apply for a permit, according to a rule issued by Chinese sports authorities.
To make climbing safer, or at least less deadly, the General Administration of Sport and the sports bureau of Xizang released a notification (通知) requiring climbers to send an application to the bureau at least a month in advance of their planned climb. It said climbing without permits will be strictly forbidden.
“In recent years, cases of injuries, missing people and deaths have been witnessed as a result of illegal climbing,” the notification said. “Climbing is a highly professional sport with high risk. Most illegal climbers lack professional skills, facilities and tour guides. Such activities will interfere with orderly climbing and bring risks, not only to the climbers themselves but also rescuers. They will also lead to a loss of personal or national property.”
Applications will need to detail each individual climber’s personal information, proposed climbing routes and related plans. Climbers are also being asked to obey related rules to protect mountain environments. The notification also urged regional government departments to strengthen safety checks and the prohibition of illegal climbing, encourage residents to join regular patrols near major climbing routes and promote public education on climbing safety.
In a previous interview with China Daily, Kul Bahadur Gurung, general secretary of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, said difficult weather conditions, lack of experience and support personnel, and the commercialization (商业化) of expeditions were the main reasons for the high death toll on the world’s highest peak. “Since the number of people reaching the summit of Everest is increasing, everyone thinks it is easier to climb and everyone can climb, which is a totally false idea,” he said.
1.Why is a permit needed for Qomolangma climbers?
A.To stop illegal climbing. B.To provide training ahead.
C.To limit the number of climbers. D.To collect climbers’ information.

A.Test. B.Change. C.Replace. D.Disturb.
3.What does Paragraph 4 focus on about the notification?
A.Its content. B.Its purpose. C.Its background. D.Its impact.
4.What does Kul Bahadur Gurung think of the Everest climbing?
A.It’s a totally false idea. B.It should be eco-friendly.
C.It’s highly professional. D.It should be non-profitable.
Passage6.Tears of happiness and shouts of joy rang out last week at the San Jose mine in northern Chile as 33 miners were lifted to freedom, one by one. The men, ranging from 19 to 63 years old, have been buried alive since a cave in the copper and gold mine where they were working fell down on August 5. It is the longest time anyone has ever survived being trapped underground.
After the fall, the men found an emergency shelter off one of the mine’s tunnels. The temperature in the dark shelter was around 90 F. For more than two weeks, the miners’ water came from the radiator tanks on their work vehicles. They shared a supply of food that was meant to last for only 48 hours.
The miners were totally separated until rescue teams made contact with the men on August 22. They sent a note to the surface explaining their situation. Rescuers drilled small holes to reach the cavern and sent down supply tubes containing food, water, clothes, medicine, fresh air and other supplies. They also received letters from their families, a television set and games.
Additional falls slowed down rescue efforts. Finally, a tunnel was built that could fit a 13-foot rescue capsule, called the Phoenix. The escape hole measures 28 inches across, a tight fit for the winding 20-minute, 2,041-foot ride. The first miner reached the surface just after midnight on Wednesday. More than half of the men had been brought to safety by Wednesday afternoon.
The miners were met by family members who were waiting at Camp Hope, a settlement of tents near the mine. Chile’s president, Sebastian Pinera, cheered at the scene and hugged the miners. “We made a promise never to surrender, and we kept it,” he said. After an immediate medical exam, the men were air-lifted to the nearest hospital for 48 hours of observation.

Passage7.There’s not a lot of mountain climbing happening in Minnesota. But it was his growing up in Detroit Lakes — visiting national parks with his family — that set Eddie Taylor up to join the first all-Black team of climbers training to take on Qomolangma next year. “I ran track in high school and I ended up going to Colorado and walking on the track team,” Taylor said during a conversation with MPR News host Cathy Wurzer. “Being out here next to the mountains, there’s lots and lots of climbing, lots of mountain areas and lots of rock climbing.”
Taylor is now a high school science teacher and track coach in Colorado and is training with a new group of nine Black climbers who hope to climb Qomolangma next spring. Led by experienced climber Phil Henderson, there are five other Black men on the team with Taylor. Abby Dione and Rosemary Saal finish off the group of nine as the two Black women climbers on the team.
It was a chance meeting with Henderson, the leader of the adventure, at a dog park in western Colorado that set Taylor up for this next adventure. “There’s not a lot of Black people out there in that part of Colorado,” he said. “I was walking my dog and we just ran into each other. We started to chat. And then we actually went ice climbing later on that day and ran into each other again.”
Of the 10, 000 climbers who have climbed Qomolangma, only 10 were Black, Taylor said. The team hopes to not only increase those numbers next year but increase awareness and access ( 接触的机会) to the outdoors for people of color.
“I visited national parks and I learned to ski ( 滑雪) at a young age, but I think that’s not typical for other climbers of color. Just to help inspire that next generation and to show that things are possible for people in our community makes it worth it.”

Passage8.When we drove through a twenty-foot-tall fence and entered the Okonjima Camp in central Namibia, the first question on our minds was whether the fence was being used to keep animals in or out. Our guide was quick to say, “Out.” The Okonjima Camp works with the AfriCat Foundation that accepts injured big cats. So there was no shortage of cats, and our first indication of how close we were was that first night when we heard growls ( 咆哮) from our houses. How high was that fence? I hope nobody left the gate open ...
The next day of our Africa trip started with a journey outside the fences and protected zone to track a mother leopard ( 花豹) and her baby the guide had seen the previous day, and we were happy to find them very quickly. The mother leopard was aware of our presence but was at ease since our car was a healthy distance away, and we sat for 45 minutes watching the sweet interactions between mother and baby.
Later in the day, the guide said we would go on a hike. Everything we were told before about staying in the vehicle and not leaving the fenced area of the camp was put aside. We were going to find cheetahs ( 猎豹). It is safer to approach cheetahs, keeping a safe distance, and our guide got out earphones to listen on the leopards’ radio collar ( 颈圈) frequency to see if any were in the area. No leopards, no problems. Let’s go look for cheetahs. Our attention was turned from cheetahs to ... giraffes! A mother and its baby! The baby was still 15 feet tall.
We finally got back to our mission to find cheetahs, and we found them. Well, I didn’t. Our guide’s tracking skills were phenomenal. He quickly found them somehow lying in the shade of some tall grass. After some time, they stood up on their long legs with their long tails swinging behind them. No cheetah-fast speed, but a silent walk into the bushes (灌木丛).

Passage9.What would happen today, if there was an accident at your workplace? Would employees know what to do? Would the injured person get the best possible care?
When an accident happens, a first-aid programme that meets the requirements of the law and is made to the type and size of the workplace can really make a difference between life and death, or between recovery and lasting disablement (伤残).
Employers should make sure that all employees know where emergency information is posted at the workplace. The emergency notice should show the phone numbers of the closest ambulance service, rescue unit, fire police station, and hospital. The amount of time it takes to look up one of these important numbers can make a big difference to a seriously injured person. The place of first-aid equipment and rescue equipment should also be posted.
All workplaces should have a person with first-aid or medical training in case of an emergency. First-aid equipment and supplies, including a variety of dressings and instruments, as well as an up-to-date first-aid book, should be stored where they can be reached quickly and easily in case of an accident. These supplies should be inspected frequently, making sure they are kept in sanitary (卫生的) and usable conditions and re-stored after use. Larger workplaces may need more than one fully-equipped first-aid bag.
In lonely workplaces, emergency supplies and an action plan are especially important. At least one person trained in first aid should always be on-site (在现场的). If first aid is not given properly, it can sometimes hurt rather than help an injured person, or even be harmful to the person giving first aid.
All workers should know who is trained to give first aid on-site, where first-aid equipment is put, and what medical professionals or medical instruments should be found if a medical emergency happens.

C.Be trained to give first aid to the injured in an accident.
D.Be far away from the accident place.
Passage10.In the fall of 1915, polar explorer Ernest Shackleton’s ship Endurance (耐力号) sank off the coast of Antarctica. While all of the expedition’s 28 crew eventually were rescued, the ship’s final resting place has remained a much-discussed maritime mystery. That is, until today. A team of researchers has announced they’ve located the wreck at the bottom of the Weddell Sea, almost the northernmost part of Antarctica.
Endurance was backed by the British government and private donors and supported by Winston Churchill to deliver a group of explorers to the coast of Antarctica and then travel overland across the continent via the South Pole.
It set out from South Georgia on December 5, 1914, shortly after the outbreak of the First World War. But the enemy that Shackleton and his men faced was of a different sort. The Weddell Sea, covering an area of more than a million square miles, is one of the most remote and unforgiving environments in the world, littered with icebergs and roiled by strong surface winds. Shackleton called it “the worst sea in the world.”
The expedition made good progress at first, but as the Antarctic winter of 1915 closed in, the men found themselves trapped in the sea ice on Tuesday, October 26. The next day, the men removed tools, instruments, and provisions and set up camp on the ice floe. Endurance finally sank on November 27. Shackleton famously said, “What the ice gets, the ice keeps.” . But Endurance’s story did not end with the ship’s sinking.
In 2019, the Falklands Heritage Maritime Trust began its first expedition to find the ship but had been unable to locate the wreck. This winter, they tried again, organizing and funding Endurance22.
One of the toughest problems, besides the sea ice, was establishing the ship’s location. After Endurance was initially trapped in the ice, it continued to drift as the floes moved with the current. Due to poor visibility on the day the men abandoned the ship, however, the captain had been unable to take proper measurements that would help calculate the direction and speed of the floes.
1.Which can show the positions of Weddell Sea and Antarctica?
A. B.
C. D.
2.Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.Endurance hasn’t been found since the fall of 1915.
B.Endurance was only supported by Winston Churchill.
C.Ernest Shackleton died and sank off the coast of Antarctica in the fall of 1915.
D.Ernest Shackleton’s goal was to travel across the Antarctica via the South Pole.

一、阅读理解
1.Which body part is most likely to get injured for a climber?
A.The arm. B.The ankle. C.The knee. D.The hand.
2.How many women climbers in America got injured while climbing a rock between 2001 and 2021?
A.About 40, 000. B.About 30, 000.
C.About 20, 000. D.About 10, 000.
3.The severity of climbers’ fall-related injures is mainly related to ________.
A.the height of the fall B.the climber’s age
C.the climber’s health conditions D.the climber’s climbing experience
4.The underlined word “demonstrates” in the last paragraph can be replaced by “________”.
A.demands B.prevents C.proves D.describes
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.A 4.C
根据第二段中“The most common types of rock climbing-related injuries were fractures (骨折) and sprains (扭伤). The ankle was the most common body part to be injured (40 percent).(最常见的攀岩相关损伤类型是骨折和扭伤。脚踝是最常受伤的身体部位(40%))”可知,脚踝是攀登者最常受伤的身体部位,故选B。
2.细节理解题。根据第二段中“The study, published in the online issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, found that about 40,000 patients were treated in US emergency departments for rock climbing-related injuries between 2001 and 2021.(这项发表在《美国预防医学杂志》网络版上的研究发现,2001年至2021年期间,约有4万名患者在美国急诊科接受了攀岩相关伤害的治疗)”和“The study also found that women took up a quarter of the injuries.(研究还发现,女性占所有受伤人数的四分之一)”可知,2001年至2021年期间,约有4万名患者在美国急诊科接受了攀登相关伤害的治疗,其中四分之一是女性,即约10000名。故选D。
3.细节理解题。根据第三段中“The severity of fall-related injuries had a lot to do with the height of the fall. Patients who were injured after falling from a height over 20 feet were 10 times more likely to be treated than patients who were injured falling from 20 feet or lower.(与坠落有关的伤害的严重程度与坠落的高度有很大关系。从20英尺以上的高度坠落受伤的患者接受治疗的可能性是从20英尺或更低高度坠落受伤患者的10倍)”可知,登山者受伤的严重程度主要是与他们坠落的高度有关,故选A。
4.词句猜测题。根据画线词上文“This trend, combined with the fact that rock climbers have a higher hospitalization rate than other sports and recreational injuries(这一趋势,再加上攀岩者比其他运动和娱乐伤害有更高的住院率)”以及后文“the need to increase injury prevention efforts for climbers(有必要加强对攀登者的伤害预防工作)”可知,攀岩者比其他体育运动的人有较高的住院率,这表明需要展开对攀登者的伤害预防工作。demonstrates意为“表明,证明”,故选C。
Qomolangma.
1.What is the main reason why the author hated climbing Mt. Qomolangma?
A.He changed his climbing goal.
B.Mt. Qomolangma was seriously polluted by trash.
C.Mt. Qomolangma became an industry to make money.
C.Relieved the tiredness.
D.Showed my respect.
4.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Admiration for the climbers.
B.Concern about the risk.
C.Confidence in the journey.
D.Hope for Mt. Qomolangma’s future.
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.D 4.A
根据第一段中的“What had once been the final mountain climbing goal became the focus of a commercial guiding industry.(这里曾经是登山的终极目标,如今却成了商业导向行业的焦点。)”
根据第三段中的“I began to pack for the climb and expected that our advanced equipment would make it manageable, perhaps easy. I was wrong. On the highest point on the planet, I was more tired than I’d ever been in any climbing.(我开始为登山准备行装,希望我们先进的装备能使登山变得容易,甚至容易。我错了。在这个星球上的最高点,我比任何一次攀登都要累。)”可知,作者本来以为先进的登山设备可以使攀登珠穆朗玛峰变得容易,但是事实证明,作者错了。在地球的最高点,作者感觉攀登珠穆朗玛峰比以往任何一次攀登都要累。再根据画线词后的“not just to Mallory and Irvine but to anyone who has the drive to push himself or herself up this route(不仅仅是对Mallory和Irvine,而是对任何有动力推动自己走上这条道路的人)”可知,此处表示在攀登的过程中,作者一直在向Mallory、Irvine和所有有动力推动自己走上这条路的人致敬,划线短语tipped my hat的意思是“表示尊敬”,和showed my respect意思相近。故选D。
4.主旨大意题。根据最后一段中的“It was hiding in plain sight, right where it has always been: inside the brave souls who risk so much to follow in storied adventurers’ footsteps up Mt. 故选A。

C.Danger areas. D.Unexpected injuries.
2.Why did the writer crawl around the house on hands and knees?
A.To cover the toilet slowly.
B.To protect her child carefully.
C.To look for something interesting.
D.To discover danger from a child’s point.
3.What should we do to protect children from falling out of windows?
A.Keep away from a window. B.Place a safety window guard.
C.Move away the window screen. D.Lean(倚) against the window firmly.
4.What’s the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Tips on keeping children safe. B.Products for children.
C.Growth speed of children. D.Ways to look after children.
【答案】1.D 2.D 3.B 4.A
【导语】本文为一篇说明文,文章讲述了父母应注意儿童安全的一些方面,且告诉父母应如何保护儿童安全。

4.主旨大意题。根据文章最后一段“As parents, we do the best we can by providing as much protection as possible to make sure of the safety of children. And as there are so many products out there to help us do this, there is nothing like good old-fashioned supervision. So, use common sense and products that help to keep your child safe, and you will have provided a safe environment for your children.(作为父母,我们尽我们所能提供尽可能多的保护,以确保孩子的安全。有这么多的产品可以帮助我们做到这一点,没有什么比好的老式监督更好的了。所以,使用常识和产品来保护你的孩子的安全,你就为你的孩子提供了一个安全的环境)”可知,最后一段给出了父母保护儿童安全的小贴士。故选A项。
2.Which word can best replace the underlined “interfere with” in Paragraph 3?
A.Test. B.Change. C.Replace. D.Disturb.
3.What does Paragraph 4 focus on about the notification?
A.Its content. B.Its purpose. C.Its background. D.Its impact.
4.What does Kul Bahadur Gurung think of the Everest climbing?
A.It’s a totally false idea. B.It should be eco-friendly.
C.It’s highly professional. D.It should be non-profitable.
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.A 4.C

3.主旨大意题。根据第四段“Applications will need to detail each individual climber’s personal information, proposed climbing routes and related plans. Climbers are also being asked to obey related rules to protect mountain environments. The notification also urged regional government departments to strengthen safety checks and the prohibition of illegal climbing, encourage residents to join regular patrols near major climbing routes and promote public education on climbing safety. (申请表需要详细说明每位登山者的个人信息、提出的登山路线和相关计划。登山者也被要求遵守相关规定,以保护山区环境。该通知还敦促地方政府部门加强安全检查和禁止非法攀登,鼓励居民在主要攀登路线附近定期巡逻,并促进攀登安全的公众教育。)”可知,本段介绍了该通知的具体内容,包括申请表填写的要求、对登山者的要求、对地方政府部门的要求等。故选A项。
4.推理判断题。根据最后一段中Kul Bahadur Gurung所说的话“Since the number of people reaching the summit of Everest is increasing, everyone thinks it is easier to climb and everyone can climb, which is a totally false idea (由于登上珠峰顶峰的人越来越多,大家都认为爬起来更容易,大家都能爬,这是一个完全错误的想法)”可知,他认为攀登珠峰顶峰很容易的想法是错误的。由此推知,他觉得珠峰攀登是一项极其专业的活动。故选C项。
1.The first paragraph tells us that trapped miners ________.
A.shouted in joy after getting rescued
B.were buried while having a rest
C.came to the ground together
D.were all different in ages
2.What do we know about the emergency shelter?
A.It was very hot inside.
B.It had food supply for 48 workers.
C.It had water stored for two days.
D.It had a hole to get fresh air.
3.What made the rescue more difficult?
A.Miners got weak without food.
B.Additional collapse happened later.
C.The escape hole was too narrow to use.
D.The rock was too hard to dig a tunnel.
4.The underlined word “surrender” in the last paragraph may mean “________”.
A.dig out
B.cheer up
C.give in
D.take a chance

1.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The importance of a proper first-aid programme at the workplace.
B.The possibility to make a first-aid programme.
C.The requirements of the law about a first-aid programme.
D.Difference between the type and size of the workplace.
2.What should you do for a seriously injured person?
A.Report the present conditions to the employers.
B.Give first aid to him right away all by yourself.

3.What is the fundamental cause of the disaster according to the passage?
A.The sea ice.
B.The Antarctic winter.
C.The things they carried.
D.The captain’s unreasonable command.
4.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A.The way how to establish the ship’s location.
B.The reason why locating the ship is difficult.
C.The measurements that the captain took to locate the ship.
D.The time when Endurance22 was organized and funded.

The next day, the men removed tools, instruments, and provisions and set up camp on the ice floe. Endurance finally sank on November 27. (探险队一开始进展不错,但随着1915年南极冬季的临近,他们发现自己在10月26日(周二)被困在了海冰中。第二天,他们搬走了工具、仪器和给养,在浮冰上扎营。“耐力号”最终于11月27日沉没。)可知A选项和C选项错误;根据第二段“Endurance was backed by the British government and private donors and supported by Winston Churchill to deliver a group of explorers to the coast of Antarctica and then travel overland across the continent via the South Pole.(耐力号得到了英国政府和私人捐助者的支持,并得到了温斯顿·丘吉尔(Winston Churchill)的支持,他们将一队探险者送到了南极洲海岸,然后通过南极点穿越大陆)”所以B选项错误;D选项正确,故选D。
3.推理判断题。根据三段“The Weddell Sea, covering an area of more than a million square miles, is one of the most remote and unforgiving environments in the world, littered with icebergs and roiled by strong surface winds. (威德尔海覆盖了超过一百万平方英里的区域,是世界上最偏远和严酷的环境之一,到处都是冰山,并且受到强烈的表面风的侵袭)”及第四段“The expedition made good progress at first, but as the Antarctic winter of 1915 closed in, the men found themselves trapped in the sea ice on Tuesday, October 26. The next day, the men removed tools, instruments, and provisions and set up camp on the ice floe. Endurance finally sank on November 27. 4.主旨大意题。根据最后一段“One of the toughest problems, besides the sea ice, was establishing the ship’s location. After Endurance was initially trapped in the ice, it continued to drift as the floes moved with the current. Due to poor visibility on the day the men abandoned the ship, however, the captain had been unable to take proper measurements that would help calculate the direction and speed of the floes. (除了海冰之外,最棘手的问题之一就是确定船只的位置。“耐力号”最初被困在冰中,随着浮冰随水流移动,它继续漂流。然而,由于船员弃船的那天能见度很低,船长一直无法进行适当的测量,以帮助计算浮冰的方向和速度。)”可知本段主要介绍确定船的位置困难的原因,故选B。
