1.request n.&v.要求;请求
【拓展】request的具体用法
(1)request 作名词,意为 “要求;请求”。make a request/requests 作出请求。
(2)request 还可作动词,意为 “要求;请求”,是及物动词,其后接动词不定式或that 从句作宾语。后接宾语从句时,从句中的谓语动词须用 “should+动词原形” 形式,should可以省略。

(3)request 后不能直接跟 “人” 作宾语,但可接 “sb.+动词不定式” 构成的复合宾语, request sb. to do sth. 意为 “要求某人做某事”。
【典型例句】①I request that he should leave. 我恳请他离开。
②I request them to stop making such a noise. 我请求他们别这样吵闹。
2.correct adj.正确的;恰当的。其反义词为incorrect 不正确的;不恰当的。
3.polite adj.有礼貌的;客气的。其副词形式为politely 礼貌地;客气地;反义词为impolite 不礼貌的;粗鲁的。

②You should deal with him more politely. 你应该待他更客气些。
4.direct adj.直接的;直率的。其名词形式为direction 方向;方位;副词形式为directly 直接地;反义词为indirect 间接的。

5.for example 例如
【拓展】for example 和such as辨析
for example 强调 “举例” 说明, 而且一般只举同类人或物中的一个。作为插入语,且用逗号隔开, 可置于句首、句中或句末。
such as用来罗列同类人或物中的几个例子, 可置于被列举的事物与前面的名词之间, 但其后不能用逗号。

【拓展】lead的常用短语
lead to 导致;造成;通向。lead sb. to (do) sth. 引导某人(做)……。
【典型例句】①This road leads to the hotel. 这条路通到旅馆。
②This experience leads me to change my idea. 这个经历使我改变主意。
7.情态动词might表达一种可能性及推测的不确定性,意思与may相当,但语气更委婉、含蓄,更不确定。

8.seem v.好像;似乎;看来。其用法如下:
(1)seem+adj. 看起来……,常用来说明主语的特征。
(2)seem+to do sth. 看起来像/似乎(做某事)

Have you met someone who kept talking and talking, and you couldn't get them to stop? You don't want to be impolite by telling them to shut up, but you really want to end the conversation. Here are some ways to help you.

Use body language.
While it may feel impolite, you could turn away and avoid looking at his or her eyes, which will show that you don't want to talk. This may save you from directly telling someone to stop talking later on.
Keep working on whatever you are doing.
Get up and move around, be active and find little things to do instead of listening.

Interrupt them as soon as you can.
Saying things like “I'd like to add something.” or “If I could interrupt you for just a minute?” will often let someone know that they are talking too much.
Lead the conversation.
This is especially helpful when dealing with someone you often talk to. Let them know that you heard what they said and guide the conversation in a different direction.

Mention that you don't have a lot of time to talk.
Expressions like “I would love to talk but I have to go for a movie right now.” will make you easily end the conversation.
