(2025·福建省泉州五校高中联考高三期中)In my early teens, I was once given a film camera as a gift. On receiving it, I jumped on my bike, headed to Wimbledon Common and took photos, just for me: photos of trees and wildlife. I was out all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture its beauty. Rushing home, I put the spent film in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store, desperate to see how it would come out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing.
2
As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change.
I took out the camera and dusted it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought new film and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to allow me time to myself. Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me.
3
The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment on display, along with photos I've taken. To me, the room represents how I've found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.

(2025·四川省绵阳市南山中学高三月考)In my early years at school, I was struggling with some subjects. I used to be a mischievous boy in class and get really bad grades. It came as no surprise that I would get an F and that would make me really scared. So what I used to do was cover those grades up—I would turn the F into a B just to please my parents. Well, it didn't work out. After that, I knew I had to accept that failure and learn from it, and something good actually came from it. I started doing better with my grades. That F turned into a B naturally, and that B turned into an A.

Since we were little, we have been constantly taught to believe failure is really a shame and that we must drown ourselves in sorrow and guilt when we fail. Consequently, we endeavor to achieve commonlybelieved success and stay away from failure.
Nevertheless, this is an entirely wrong approach. Life is full of ups and downs. From being a kid to transitioning into an adult, you will fail at many things in life. So it is unlikely to ignore it. It is okay when failure happens. Actually, it only tells you about yourself. You get to learn about your true capabilities, what you are good at, and what you are not.
10
Whenever you face a failure, never think that you are never going to recover from this. You must think of ways to better yourself. Did you know it took Thomas Edison 10,000 attempts to perfect the light bulb? Bill Gates failed many times. Even his first company was a complete wreck. J. K. Rowling encountered a lot of rejections before her Harry Potter took off. All is proof that you must learn from your failures, not run from them!
As Winston Churchill puts it, success is not final, failure is not fatal. And it is the courage to continue that counts.

A.To introduce the topic of the passage.
B.To highlight the significance of failures.
C.To indicate his great efforts in school.

6.What does the common belief assume?
A.Failures have been treated in an unfair way.
B.Failures should be just overlooked in our life.
C.We should feel ashamed and guilty of failures.
D.We should drown our sorrows triggered by failures.
根据第二段中的“Since we were little ... and guilt when we fail.”
7.How does the author mainly present his opinion according to the text?
A.By making comparisons. B.By listing examples.
C.By challenging the traditions. D.By quoting celebrities' mottoes.

(2025·江苏省连云港市高三期中)Restricting your eating window to just 8 hours a day—a popular type of intermittent fasting (间歇性禁食)—has been linked to a higher risk of dying from heart disease, a new study indicates.
Timerestricted eating has previously been associated with improved health conditions, but its longterm effects are unclear. To learn more, Wenze Zhong at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China and his teammates studied about 20,000 adults, roughly half men and half women, who took part in the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
17
Every year from 2003 to 2018, the survey's participants selfreported dietary (饮食的) information. The researchers matched this against death records between 2003 to 2019. Participants were only included if they were aged 20 or older and had completed two diet questionnaires (问卷) in their first year of the survey.
Over an average followup period of eight years, the researchers found that those who ate during an 8hour daily window didn't live longer than those with a more traditional eating schedule of 12 to 16 hours, despite intermittent fasting often being praised for its benefits to longevity (长寿). The researchers also found that people who followed an 8hour eating schedule were 91% more likely to die from heart disease than those who ate over 12 to 16 hours.
18
For people with heart conditions, eating during an 8 to 10hour window was linked to a 66% higher risk of death from heart disease than it was for those eating over 12 to 16 hours. Among people with cancer, eating over a window of more than 16 hours was associated with a lower risk of death from cancer than a more restricted eating schedule.
However, the study doesn't prove that timerestricted eating caused any of these deaths. “Actually, unhealthy lifestyles may lead to heart disease. We also don't know how healthy the foods people ate were,” says Zhong.
19
9.What is the purpose of Wenze Zhong's research?
A.To explore the secrets of people's longevity.
B.To study the benefits of timerestricted eating.
C.To investigate the dietary habits among people.
D.To find longterm effects of intermittent fasting.
根据第二段中的“Timerestricted eating has previously been associated with improved health conditions, but its longterm effects are unclear.(此前,限时进食与健康状况的改善有关,但其长期影响尚不清楚。)”
10.How did Wenze Zhong and his team conduct the study?
A.By interviewing participants of all ages.
B.By linking dietary data to death records.
C.By collecting data from different regions.
D.By reporting participants' health conditions.
根据第三段中的“Every year from 2003 to 2018 ... matched this against death records between 2003 to 2019.(从2003年到2018年,调查参与者每年自行报告饮食信息。研究人员将这些信息与2003年至2019年的死亡记录进行了匹配。)”可知,钟文泽和他的团队通过将饮食数据与死亡记录相联系来进行研究。故选B。
11.What did Wenze Zhong and his team find?
A.Intermittent fasting can help people live longer.
B.An 8hour eating window is best for heart health.
C.Heart patients should avoid a 16hour eating window.
D.Longer eating windows can be good for some patients.
12.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The limitations of the study.
B.The prospect of the study.
C.The applications of the study.
D.The significance of the study.
故选A。

How to keep positive under pressure
With the college entrance exam approaching, some third-year seniors students are loaded with extra pressure. How to keep positive is crucial in managing pressure and improving learning efficiency. Here are some tips for that.
First of all, be confident in yourself. No matter what arises, believe you have the ability to deal with it. Second, focus your attention on performing the task at hand instead of worries, fears and doubts. What's more, set short term goals and reward yourself when you have achieved each one, which will make you feel motivated to keep up with the good work. Keeping a healthy lifestyle such as balanced diets or regular exercise also matters in reducing pressure.
No pressure, no diamonds. So please choose to be positive even if you are facing pressure.

(2025·陕西省西安高新第一中学高三第三次模考)I was nominated (提名) for our school's debate team. I jumped at the chance. When I got home that day, I began to fill out the application form, trying hard to prove how I met all the team's criteria: strong communication skills, teamwork, and a good understanding of current events.
The next day, I handed in my application and waited eagerly. I was on tenterhooks (如坐针毡), anticipation building up with each tick of the clock.
27
Two weeks went by, and I received a letter from the school about the debate team, which began with “I'm sorry to ...”. As soon as the school bus let me off that afternoon, I raced into the house. My mother was typing at the computer.
“Mom,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper, “I didn't make the debate team.”
She looked up, a smile playing on her lips, thinking I was joking, and playfully reached out to highfive me. But the tears in my eyes told a different story.
“No, really, I wasn't picked,” I told her, handing her the letter.
28
Her smile faded, replaced by a look of genuine concern. “Oh, sweetheart, I'm sorry,” she said, surprised. “There must be some mistake.” She called the debate team advisor, but he confirmed there were no mistakes and the decision was final. Hearing that, I broke down and burst out crying.
The rejection stung (刺痛) me, especially when I saw friends celebrating their acceptance. I felt cheated, questioning the fairness of the process. In my view, some selected didn't deserve it as much as I did. Bitterness crept (潜入) into my words as I complained.
29
“I'm the best fit for the team,” I protested.
“See, Jenny, complaining won't get you on the team.” Mom gave me a serious look.

I stared at Mom and listened eagerly. She shared her own stories of failure and disappointment and how she turned them into opportunities for growth. “Every rejection is a lesson,” she said. With her guidance, I spent the next three months improving my skills. I practiced debates, read extensively to stay updated on current events, and sought feedback from teachers and peers. I even started a debate club after school to gain more experience.
33
I did make it when a second chance came 3 months later. When the team needed an extra member for an upcoming tournament, they considered my dedication and improvement. This time, I was ready. My performance in the tryouts was confident and wellprepared. Joining the team was a sweet victory, but the real win was in the resilience I had built and the lessons I had learned along the way. My mother's wisdom had steered me through a tough time, and I was grateful for the journey that had made me a better debater and a stronger person.
