Wanting to protect them, I started building houses for ants, using little pieces of wood and leaves. I then moved on to making little cups and saucers from silver foil (箔纸) for the magical creatures. When seeing my work, my mother told me that the smaller I made things, the bigger my name would become. As the years went by, my designs became more complicated. Making sculptures isn't actually enjoyable. I sometimes work for 16 hours a day without breaks, and it takes me up to three months to finish a sculpture. I have to hold my breath during the sculpting process. 46 One time, a fly landed on a Cinderella carriage sculpture I was working on. The fly's wings blew it away, and it was lost. I was heartbroken. Another time, I accidentally breathed in a microscopic Alice from Alice in Wonderland. Alice is now in the Wonderland forever. But it did give me the chance to make an even better one the second time around. My sculptures have taken me to incredible places. In 2012, I met the queen, giving her a crown on the head of a pin. In 2013, I received my first Guinness World Record for creating the smallest sculpture by hand, a 24carat gold motorbike that fitted inside a hair. In 2017, I beat my record with a sculpture of a human fetus (胎儿) that measured 0.078 mm by 0.053 mm. 47 I was diagnosed with autism (自闭症) as an adult. In school, my teachers had pointed me out as an example of failure; now, I see my autism as a gift. It's pushed me to be the best I can be. I hold workshops in schools for neurodiverse children, sharing my story and helping them create their own miniature figures. The microscopic world has always been my happy place. I've tried to make bigger sculptures, but small is best for me. We need to appreciate the little things in life. Small things can also be mighty, too. 48 4.What drove the author to make tiny sculpture at the beginning? A.His interest in insects. B.His desire to make a name. C.His dream of setting a record. D.His awareness of wildlife protection. 根据第一段中的“Growing up as a kid in the UK ... using little pieces of wood and leaves.(我小时候在英国长大,对昆虫很着迷。为了保护它们,我开始用小块木头和树叶为蚂蚁建造房屋。)”可知,对昆虫的兴趣驱使作者开始制作雕塑。故选A。 5.Which of the following can best describe the author's sculpting process? A.Eventful and enjoyable. B.Complex and frustrating. C.Moneywasting but entertaining. D.Timeconsuming but fulfilling. 根据第二段中的“I sometimes work for 16 hours ... to finish a sculpture.(有时,我一天连续工作16个小时,而完成一件雕塑需要3个月的时间。)”以及第四段中的“In 2017, I beat my record ... by 0.053 mm.(2017年,我用一个0.078毫米乘0.053毫米的人类胎儿雕塑打破了我的纪录。)” D。 6.How does the author deal with his autism now? A.He receives medical treatment. B.He takes full advantage of it. C.He regards it as the source of failure. D.He shares it and asks help from others. 根据倒数第二段中的“In school ... pushed me to be the best I can be.(在学校里,我的老师把我当作失败的例子;现在,我把我的自闭症看作是一份礼物。它促使我成为最好的自己。)”可知,作者充分利用了自闭症。故选B。 7.What message does the author mainly convey through the text? A.Great art comes at a cost of loss. B.Minor things in life can carry weight. C.Childhood experiences sculpt a career. D.Hard work contributes to great achievements. 根据最后一段中的“We need to appreciate the little things in life. Small things can also be mighty, too.(我们需要欣赏生活中的小事。小事也可以是伟大的。)”可推知,作者通过文章想表达的是生活中的小事也很有分量。故选B。 Ⅳ 七选五 (2025·安徽省合肥市第一中学高三教学质量检测)I am often struck by the thought that there is this huge life enhancing potential available to everyone on the planet that maybe we don't always take great advantage of. __1__ Through it, we help ourselves and others by sharing the things we have learned. __2__ I have been teaching and preaching from the time when it occurred to me that I had some really great stuff to share. But, strangely, it took me a long time to really identify what it was that I was doing, at least enough to put it into words. 53 So, I'd like to share with you my thoughts on why teaching and sharing your knowledge can be so important to you as well as to the people around you. __3__ See whether it profoundly enhanced so many parts of your life, even in the areas you're already super successful in. Here is what makes teaching so great for the person doing the teaching. Any goal, habit, human quality, or desire that you start preaching, teaching, or pontificating about will automatically, and almost without effort, push you to do more of it yourself. __4__ It pushes you to do what you are encouraging and teaching others to do. I am totally convinced this will, and does, work that way for everyone. 54 What knowledge do you have, or have you learned that you want to be reminded and pushed to improve in your life? If you want to do better at it, there will be plenty of others that will want to do better at it too. __5__ A.It's our ability to teach other people. B.We just need to talk and teach others about it. C.Doing this has been changing and helping my life for years now. D.Please, think deeply about this and then put it into practice in any way you can. 55 E.Be sure to write down your goals and objectives as well so you can stay on track. F.The knowledge you share, whether spoken or written, is like a truth drug for the mind. G.So, why not teach and share what you know and help yourself do better and better at these things? 和后文“Through it ... we have learned. (通过它,我们通过分享我们所学到的东西来帮助自己和他人。)”可知,此处提到了一种巨大的潜力,下文提到巨大潜力的作用,由此可推知,设空处解释这种潜力是什么。A项(它是我们教导他人的能力。)符合语境。故选A。 1.答案:A 解析:根据后文“I have been teaching and preaching from the time ... at least enough to put it into words.” 2.答案:C 解析:根据前文“So, I'd like to share with you my thoughts ... the people around you.(所以,我想和你分享我的想法,为什么教学和分享你的知识对你和你周围的人都是如此重要。)”以及后文“See whether it profoundly enhanced ... you're already super successful in.(看看它是否深刻地改善了你生活的许多方面,即使是在你已经非常成功的领域。)” 3.答案:D 解析:根据前文“Any goal ... push you to do more of it yourself.” 4.答案:F 解析:根据前文“What knowledge do you have ... that will want to do better at it too.” 5.答案:G R $$
