For hundreds of years, humans have been mixing things like minerals, metals and chemicals together to create different colours of paints. These things can cause environmental pollution.
Nature has another way to create colours. Have you ever wondered why some birds’ feathers can show beautiful colours? The answer is “structural colours”—a kind of wisdom of nature. There are many tiny structures on the surfaces of plants and animals. They work like tiny prisms (棱镜) to bend and reflect light. Then we can see the wonderful colours.
Now scientists have used nanotechnology (纳米技术) to copy nature and make the paint with structural colours. The scientists create a special mirrored surface. There are tiny aluminum atoms (铝原子) and even tinier nanoparticles (纳米粒) on it. When light hits the surface, the nanoparticles reflect the light. The size of the tiny nanoparticles decides which colour gets reflected.
The new paint has many advantages. Firstly, the new paint is environmentally friendly. A little bit of the new paint can cover a large area of surfaces. It takes about 500 kg of traditional paints to cover a plane, while now 1.3 kg will do the same job. Secondly, the new paint lasts longer. Traditional paints break down and fade over time. The new paint can last for centuries. Thirdly, the new paint can keep surfaces cooler than traditional paints. Using the paint on buildings in cities can help make cities cooler.
1.The underlined word “They” in Para. 2 refers to “________”.
A.the colours B.tiny structures C.plants and animals
2.What can we learn from the text?
A.Traditional paint is greener than the new one.
B.It’s cooler to live in a building with the new paint.
C.The colour we get is up to the shape of tiny nanoparticles.
3.Which of the following is the proper match of each paragraph? (①=Para. 1)
a. List some benefits of the new paint.
b. State usual ways of creating colours.
c. Introduce what “structural colours” are.
d. Explain how to create the new paint.
A.①-a; ②-c; ③-b; ④-d B.①-b; ②-d; ③-c; ④-a C.①-b; ②-c; ③-d; ④-a
4.What’s the writer’s attitude towards the future of the new paint?
A.Hopeful. B.Unclear. C.Doubtful.

You already know a lot about shapes. You learn about shapes in your math class. Maybe you have learned about polygons (多边形). Polygons are closed shapes. They have more than one side. They have more than one angle (角). But polygons aren’t just in your math class. They are in many places. Look around you. You can see polygons all over.
What shape is a slice of pizza? Most slices of pizza are triangles. Triangles are polygons. What makes them polygons? They have three sides and three angles.
A pentagon is a polygon. It has five sides and five angles. There is a very big pentagon in Washington, DC. This pentagon is a building called the Pentagon.
Hexagons are also polygons. Hexagons have six sides and six angles. Where can you find a hexagon? Just look for bees! When bees make honey, they store it in honeycombs that they build. Each cell (巢室) of a honeycomb is a hexagon. If you see a honeycomb, you will see hexagons. But be careful of the bees!
How many sides does an octagon have? An octagon has eight sides. It also has eight angles. You can tell because the word starts with “oct-”. That prefix (前缀) means eight. Octagons have more than one side. They have more than one angle. So they are polygons. You see octagons all the time. Can you guess when? Every time you see a stop sign! Stop signs have eight sides and eight angles. That makes them octagons.

In the fast-changing digital world, 6G technology is going to change the communication all over the world a lot. During China’s 2025 Two Sessions, 6G became a big thing. It shows how important it is for the next stage of global communication.
6G is the sixth-generation mobile network. It will bring big changes that are much more than 5G. 6G can be 100 times faster (1Tbps) than 5G and have almost no delay (0.1 milliseconds). These changes will let people, machines, and the environment talk to each other easily. It will make a world where “everything is smartly connected”.
6G is powerful because it can put together new technologies like AI, quantum computing, and satellite networks. For example, doctors can do far-away surgeries very accurately in real time with holographic communication (全息通信). Self-driving cars can quickly share traffic data to avoid accidents. And robots in factories can work together well with very reliable connections. This will make things more efficient and safer.
The Chinese government is working hard to help 6G grow. It is building test networks, making national standards, and getting research groups and industries to work together. By 2030, China wants to make 6G fully available for business. It will also change areas like healthcare, education, and logistics (物流). It will set a new example for the world’s digital development.
But there are still problems. Building 6G infrastructure (基础设施) costs a lot. There is also the problem of energy use and getting countries to agree on standards. However, China has a big market and a good system for new ideas. So, China is likely to make 6G really work.
In short, 6G is not just an improvement. It is a way to a smarter and more connected world. With continuous new ideas, China is playing an important role in the way to this future. It is closing gaps, helping industries, and changing how we live, one step at a time.

In today’s result-focused world, we praise people who achieve their goals faster, but those who take more time to succeed are often missed. Students are also often divided into “winners” and “losers”. High performers are always praised and noticed, while the efforts of slow students are sometimes overlooked. This attitude can hurt their self-confidence and drive. Recently, however, a university graduate created a special scholarship (奖学金) to challenge this way of thinking.
Yu Yifan, from Sichuan University, gave 30,000 yuan to his college to start a scholarship program. Different from traditional scholarships for top students, Yu’s scholarship is for slow students. Yu himself recalled feeling lost and anxious when he was falling behind. Support from his teacher helped him get back his confidence. “I want to help students who are falling behind for now but are working hard to make progress and reach their goals.” Yu said.
A US thinker Mortimer J. Adler once said, “The purpose of learning is growth.” Because of different learning methods and situations, some students rise to the top quickly, while others take longer. No matter their speed, students who work hard prepare themselves for both growth and challenges. Difficulties and failures are a normal part of learning, helping students think clearly, solve problems and develop as successful students.
Yu’s scholarship not only gave slow students a chance to be recognized but also changed the focus from results to the process of learning. Although grades and scores are very important, they don’t tell the whole story of education. The scholarship is more than a financial (经济的) help—it’s a way to show care. It shows that success isn’t just about grades. Every small step forward counts.
25.Which word could replace the underlined “overlooked” in Para 1?
A.missed B.created C.noticed
26.How is Yu’s scholarship different from traditional scholarships?
A.It’s for poor students with low grades.
B.It cares slow students who keep learning.
C.It is given to students who rise to the top quickly.
27.What can we infer from the text?
A.Grades are the whole of education.
B.Yu Yifan got support from the scholarship.
C.Difficulties and failures are important for growth.
28.Which statement might Yu agree with according to the text?
A.Anyone can achieve top grades with effort.
B.Financial help is the key to students’ success.
C.Even small progress should be recognized and supported.
【答案】25.A 26.B 27.C 28.C
【导语】本文讲述了在一个注重结果的世界中,慢学生的努力常被忽视,余一凡设立奖学金来认可这些学生,并强调学习过程和小进步的重要性。

A new study recently has found that snub-nosed monkeys help each other to raise their young babies. But they prefer to choose those with the most parenting experience to babysit their young.
This discovery was made by accident by a team of researchers. They noticed that at their habitats, the monkeys passed around their newborns a lot and would take turns to clean, carry, or even feed the newborns. This behavior reminded the team of how humans babysit for each other, and so they decided to observe the monkeys more closely.
They followed the group every day for six months. There were more than 400 moments where a female monkey communicated with another mother and its newborn, including cleaning the newborn or gently pulling them closer. When the newborns grew up a bit, their mothers were more likely to allow other mothers to take care of them. When choosing a babysitter, the mothers based their decision on how much parenting experience the other female monkeys had. The younger mothers with less experience would still be allowed to look after the babies, but usually after a more experienced monkey had given up their babysitting duties. This was a chance for the younger mothers to learn more about parenting to prepare them for having babies in the future.
Researcher Cui Chunyan told New Scientist magazine that in the future, more research needs to be done to find out whether the monkey mothers will consider other monkey’s social status or whether they are related to each other when choosing babysitters.

Yuanmingyuan was once a beautiful royal (皇家的) garden, which is full of valuable artifacts (文物). Among its artifacts were the Twelve Zodiac Animal Heads—part of a water clock system. These amazing treasures were symbols of great skill. However, due to historical events, they were lost abroad. As China grew stronger, these priceless artifacts were gradually brought home.
In April, 2000, people in Hong Kong were angry when the auction house Christie’s (佳士得拍卖行) planned to sell two of the Zodiac heads. They strongly called for the return of the national treasures. The Chinese government tried to stop the auction, but Christie’s still went ahead with it.
Although the first try to stop the auction failed, Poly Group, a major Chinese State-owned company, stepped in. On April 30, 2000, Poly bought the Monkey and Ox heads for 8.185 million and 7.745 million Hong Kong dollars respectively (分别). One of Poly’s workers said, “These treasures belong to all Chinese people. They will return to Beijing!”
The efforts continued. On May 2, 2000, Poly bought the Tiger Head in another auction for 15.44 million Hong Kong dollars.
Over time, more Zodiac heads have been brought back to China. In 2003, businessman Stanley Ho donated the Pig Head to the Poly Art Museum. In 2007, Ho also bought the Horse Head for 69.1 million Hong Kong dollars and donated it to the Chinese government. Paul Shuttleworth received a special New Year gift—expensive glasses. Though they don’t improve his eyesight, they help him “hear” better. The glasses show real-time subtitles (字幕) on their lenses (镜片), allowing Paul to join conversations easily, which was difficult for him before. The glasses work by listening to people’s words and turning them into text he can read.
Real-time captioning (实时字幕生成) isn’t new. Many people with hearing difficulties use phone apps to see conversations as text. However, these apps aren’t perfect. Users must keep looking between their phone screens and the person speaking, which is tiring.
Dan Scarfe, a tech company CEO, says better software now makes tools like captioning glasses possible. He believes a perfect device for real-time captioning will be ready soon. But the biggest challenge, he says, is getting people to use it often.
Still, captioning glasses aren’t perfect. In noisy places like busy restaurants, people with hearing loss find it hard to follow conversations. The glasses meet the same difficulty too. Background noise remains a major problem the technology hasn’t solved.
Many deaf people are excited about this tool, but some have worries. They think these glasses might replace sign language interpreters (手语翻译). While captions show words, interpreters can express feelings, tone of voice, and even show who is speaking. This makes communication deeper and clearer.
53.Why are Paul’s glasses special?
A.They can help Paul listen better.
B.They can improve Paul’s eyesight.
C.They can make Paul communicate easily.
54.What is the main challenge about captioning glasses?
A.Improving phone apps.
B.Making the glasses look good.
C.Getting people to use them often.
55.What is the disadvantage of captioning glasses?
A.They require users to hold a phone.
B.They cannot show subtitles in real time.
C.They fail to work in noisy environments.
56.How is the last paragraph organised?
A.By making comparisons.
B.By listing numbers.
C.By telling stories.

China’s Ministry of Education (教育部) has warned against schools serving precooked meals to students after parents said they might be unhealthy and unsafe for children to eat. Many schools, especially in Ganzhou, Jiangxi province, have promised to stop offering such food. They now focus on providing fresh and safe meals for students, showing the importance of healthy eating in schools.
Wang Liang, a headmaster of a primary school in Changsha, said the canteen there provides lunch for students, and all the ingredients are bought and cooked in the morning. “All food at the canteen is fresh, and there is not even one frozen (冷冻的) ingredient,” he told local media outlet Xiaoxiang Morning News.
Deng Li, a mother of a third-grade student in Changsha, told China Daily that her daughter eats lunch at her school canteen on weekdays and her school has also promised not to serve precooked food. It is often said that old people don’t understand the young, while many believe that children are too young to fully understand the wisdom of their elders. But in truth, both groups have a lot to learn from each other.
Geraldine Tan runs the St. Joseph’s Home for the aged in Singapore. It’s mainly a place for serving the elders. But not all of its visitors are old people.
The home also includes a child-care center for about 50 kids between the ages of 2 months and 6 years old. At the center of the home’s courtyard (中庭), there is a playground where the old people can play with the kids. By doing so, they can learn more about each other and get more mutual (相互的) respect and understanding.
I think it is quite an interesting idea. We live in a world where aging societies are becoming more common. It will be important for young people to be able to understand and care for old people in the coming years.
Sadly, my own grandparents weren’t around when I was little, as they had already passed away. I never got to learn what the world was like through their eyes, or what kinds of challenges they might have faced when they were my age. Their lives will always be a mystery (谜) to me.
But I suppose I can still learn from other people of older generations. I might find some of their ideas old-fashioned, and they might believe that my generation’s way of thinking is strange or incorrect. But we can still learn from each other anyway.

A.It is in Singapore. B.It is run by St. Joseph. C.It only serves old people.

Zibo, which is in the center of Shandong Province, has a population of about 4.7 million. It is an old industrial city, not known as a tourist place. But that has all changed now and everybody is talking about Zibo. How has Zibo become such a popular place, especially for young people?
Its interesting barbecue culture is the first and main reason. The city has been known for its barbecue restaurants for years, and created an open-air BBQ entertainment environment. The Zibo BBQ experience includes “do it yourself”. When the food is served, the diners have to cook themselves on a stove on the table and then eat it in a special way. Zibo has set up special tourist trains and BBQ buses to attract groups of tourists. Now the whole country wants a taste of Zibo barbecue.
Another reason is that Zibo played a special role during COVID-19. Some students from Ji’nan were well taken care of during their stay in Zibo. And they celebrated their last night in Zibo with a BBQ. The next spring, they came back to Zibo and spent time there to thank the city. Their posts online became a hot topic and made the city popular.
Douyin is also at the heart of Zibo’s recent success. As more and more people have come to Zibo and shared the videos on it and other social media, Zibo gets even more popular.
All in all, it’s clear that Zibo has done something right. As many cities are doing all they can to promote their town as a tourist place, Zibo has shown us the key to success: to stay kind, to be reliable (可靠的), but most of all, to keep the barbecue hot.
73.What do we know about Zibo barbecue culture?
A.The diners need to cook themselves.
B.People enjoy it in the in-door rooms.
C.Zibo will set up BBQ trains and buses.
74.Some students from Ji’nan came back to Zibo to _________.
A.help to serve Zibo’s tourists
B.experience its tourist trains

From bikes to motorbikes, buses to private cars, the traveling services for Chinese people have changed greatly. Looking back, we can find how far we’ve come.
In the 1950s and 1960s in China, most people got around on foot. Although there were public bus services, they were too expensive. In the 1970s, the bicycle became popular in China. Still, it was considered as an expensive thing. Bikes were even used as a wedding present. In the 1980s, motorbikes took the place of bikes. From the 1990s on, Chinese people’s “two-wheel dream” developed into a “four-wheel dream”. Private cars have become popular since then.
As for trains, “green-skinned trains”, known for their slow speed, became popular after coming out in 1984. But with China’s continuing development of high-speed trains, the country is now saying goodbye to its old green trains. Years ago, the world’s fastest bullet train Fuxing came into use between Beijing and Shanghai, which cuts the journey time to just four and a half hours.
Air travel has also developed rapidly, offering people both speed and comfort. Beijing Daxing International Airport opened in September 2019 and became the largest modern airport in the world.
Today, China has the world’s longest high-speed railway network and largest airport. The country is moving forward, providing people with more traveling services.

A.Hopeful. B.Unclear. C.Doubtful.

You’ve probably followed a few cute dogs and cats on social media (媒体). However, do you know that AI pets are also popular these days? They are just as cute as real dogs and cats. But they are a little bit more human-like.
AI pet Zhuangzhuang is a cute Shiba Inu (柴犬) who likes to eat and is playful. He is popular online. “Zhuangzhuang is actually a reflection of me,” his maker said. “His life kind of shows my own.”
To make the character more human-like, the young maker lets Zhuangzhuang do different everyday things. For example, during “hui nan tian” — the very wet weather in southern China in spring — Zhuangzhuang’s maker posted pictures of Zhuangzhuang sweeping a wet floor.
9.Who is the passage written for?
A.Artists. B.Parents. C.Students.
10.Why can a slice of pizza be considered as a polygon?
A.Because it has three sides.
B.Because it has four angles.
C.Because it has three sides and three angles.
11.What do we know about a honeycomb according to the passage?
a. It is built by bees. b. It has six-sided cells. c. It is made up of triangles. d. It is used to store honey.
A.a, b, c B.b, c, d C.a, b, d
12.What would be the best structure of the passage?
A. B. C.

Plants and their parts
What do roots, stems (茎), and leaves do?
Plant parts look different in different environments.
•Desert plants: They have few or no leaves. These plants store water in thick stems. Their roots are very long. They grow down to find water deep underground.
•Rainforest plants: They have large leaves. These help the plants take in as much light as they can.
•Plants in ▲ places: They grow long roots and short stems so they do not blow over.
What do flowers, fruits, and seeds do?
Many plants have flowers and most flowers make seeds. Plants that have flowers also make fruits. Most of the time, a seed grows inside a fruit. The fruit keeps the seeds safe and helps them grow. We eat the fruits of many plants, such as peppers and apples. A seed can grow into a new plant.

17.What does the underline word “global” in paragraph 1 mean?

In 2013, the French Pinault family returned the Rat and Rabbit heads, which were placed in the National Museum.

A.By making comparisons.
B.By listing numbers.
C.By telling stories.

Nanlao Spring(难老泉) is a famous 2,400-year-old spring in Shanxi province, China. The poet Li Bai described its water as “clean like jade”. But in the 1990s, the spring dried up because people used too much groundwater and dug too many coal mines(煤矿) nearby. To save the spring, the government closed nearby coal mines and factories that wasted water. After 30 years of hard work, the water returned in May 2023. Nanlao Spring has come back to life!
Zhai Tianhu, an 82-year-old man who grew up near the spring, is excited. “The water is strong now. It makes me happy to see it again,” he said. The spring’s return helped Jinci Temple, a historic site built over 2,000 years ago during the Western Zhou Dynasty, become a top tourist spot in China. Experts check the water every day to keep it clean and safe.
Shanxi is called the “water tower of North China” because it supplies water to big cities like Beijing. Local leaders said protecting Nanlao Spring shows their success in saving nature. “This spring holds special memories for our people,” said Liu Yuwei, a cultural official. Visitors love the spring’s beauty and the temple’s ancient trees. One tourist, Zheng Weihua, said, “The fresh air and history here are impressive!”

①How did your final exams go? Well, your test performance is largely decided by how effectively you have taken your class notes. Here, I’m going to share some tips for taking good notes with you.
②It’s great if your teacher writes notes on the board: You can copy them down. If not, however, write down the most important points from class.
③It can take time to learn how to listen for the main ideas, so keep trying and don’t give up. Some teachers may directly tell you that a certain fact is important.
④Don’t go crazy taking notes, though. If you focus too much on getting your notes right, you might miss what the teacher is saying. But if you think you have missed something important, don’t be afraid to ask the teacher to repeat it. If you don’t want to ask in class, see your teacher after class. It’s much easier than wondering if you have got the notes right as you study.
⑤Finally, it’s a great idea to go over your notes with a friend and compare what you two have written down. It can alert you and your friend to any mistakes you may have made in your notes.

The school sometimes sends photos of the food to parent WeChat groups, and Deng makes sure to ask her daughter every day whether she has eaten a good meal at school, she said.
Without doubt, precooked food can be quick, convenient and has a long shelf life (保存期). However, parents’ worries are not without reason. After all, few people eat precooked food every day, and naturally they don’t want their children to do that either. Schools should have more power in deciding which ingredients the companies buy for students and ensure that the companies offer many different kinds of food choices to students. For now, the precooked food industry still has a long way to go.

A. B. C.
76.What does the underlined word “promote” most probably mean?
A.Help something to happen or develop.
B.Advise someone to make decisions.
C.Attract someone to taste local food.
