I love IT, but a trip to the cinema means a fifty five minute boat journey plus a half hour drive to the nearest town. That's why we all get excited about the screen machine. It's a mobile cinema that travels around the Scottish islands. Sometimes we get to see the latest movies. You can't miss the huge bright blue screen machine. When IT comes into the car park, IT takes an hour to change IT into a comfortable, air conditioned AC cinema. It's amazing. I really admire the screen machines driver. Of course, he shows the movies, and there is always another person selling tickets. The salt in the sea air isn't good for the trucks, motors, so they also need a mechanic. Ticket Prices are very reasonable, so as soon as the screen machine arrives, the ticket office phone starts ringing. We can now also book in advance on the screen machine website, which makes IT even more convenient, and that's the way most people choose. No, it's an amazing service. B The Miao Sisters Festival is held every year in Guizhou’s Taijiang County, where 97 percent of the 168,000 people there are from the ethnic (民族) Miao group. It is an ancient tradition, which brings men and women together through food, gifts and music. In the days before the festival, young women gather leaves and wild flowers, which they use to dye (给……染色) sticky rice with bright colours. This brightly coloured rice, known as Sister Rice, gives the festival its name. During the festival, the young women dress in beautiful traditional clothes with large amounts of silver jewelry. The festival includes parades, horse races and musical performances. But the real focus is the interaction between the young women and the young men who visit from surrounding villages and sing songs. In one traditional type of song, a man and woman take turns singing to each other, and the first one to make a mistake loses the game. The loser must give the winner a gift, but the winner is expected to give a gift in return too. After meeting the men, the women send them home with a bamboo basket containing dyed rice and hidden objects with special meanings. For example, a pair of chopsticks means she wants to marry the man, while garlic shows that she is not interested. One of several stories is about the festival’s beginning of a girl and a boy who fell in love. The girl’s parents wanted her to marry her uncle’s son as it was traditional at the time. She refused, and the boy likewise refused to marry anyone else. For a time, they could only meet in a field and pass hidden messages to each other through rice in a bamboo basket. Finally, the pair overcame their parents’ opposition and were allowed to marry. The Miao Sisters Festival is perhaps the oldest festival in Asia that encourages love. 24. What is the purpose of young women collecting leaves and wild flowers? A. To decorate their rooms. B. To sell them and make money. C. To give sticky rice different colours. D. To cover some objects in a basket. 25. Which of the following is NOT the activity taking place in the festival? A. Water skiing. B. Horse races. C. Parades. D. Singing songs. 26. What can we learn from the passage? A. A woman often loses the game. B. A hidden pair of chopsticks suggests good things. C. The winner need not send a gift. D. Often a man needs to sing songs to a young woman. 27. What does the story in Paragraph 5 tell us? A. The boy’s parents didn’t like the girl. B. They were not married in the end. C. The boy refused to marry the girl at first. D. The rice in the bamboo basket carried their love. C Children will become more and more independent and will do what they would like to do. However, as parents, you ought to take care of your own children and have a better understanding of them in the following cases. School work becomes increasingly difficult as children grow up. So this is a time when some kids begin to do better in their school work while others struggle to understand more advanced and more difficult lessons. When they get home, talk with them about their school lessons and find out what they don’t understand. It’s a chance for you to stay close with your children as before and get them to relax. For many families, homework can be a serious struggle. Many school-age kids are reluctant to sit down and study for a spelling test or complete their math homework. It’s natural for them to be bored with their homework, but you have to think of ways to help them form the right habit to finish their homework when they get home. Many kids are busy with sports, music, and after-school activities. Others, however, may prefer to spend too many hours on the screen. It’s important to keep kids active at this age. Friends become a bigger deal for children during this time too. Attending birthday parties or playing with kids on the playground can be good for their development. Bullying (恃强凌弱的行为) can become a problem around this age. It’s important to talk to your child about kindness and respect so he doesn’t become a bully and it’s also quite necessary for you to talk about what he can do if he becomes a target. 28. What would happen with school lessons getting more difficult? A. Children are divided in their school lessons. B. Children have more homework to do at home. C. Parents have more chances to show themselves. D. Parents find it more difficult to teach their children. 29. What does the underlined word “reluctant” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Excited. B. Worried. C. Unwilling. D. Interested. 30. What does the author advise school children to do? A. Spend more hours on the screen. B. Be active both mentally and physically. C. Organize parties at home and school. D. Bully other students at school. 31. Who are the intended readers of this text? A. Students. B. Teachers. C. Parents. D. Office workers. D A new study finds that less than seven percent of the adult population in the US have what health experts consider good cardiometabolic (心脏代谢) health. Using information on roughly 55,000 people over the age of 20, the results show just 6.8 percent of American adults reached optimal (最佳的) levels of health in 2018. Moreover, the study found American health has been in sharp decline over the last 20 years. In 1999, one in three adults had a healthy weight. By 2018, that number fell to just one in four Americans. At the same time, three in five people were free of diabetes in 1999. By 2018, however, more than six in ten adults had the condition! “These numbers are striking. It’s deeply problematic that in the United States, fewer than 1 in 15 adults have optimal cardiometabolic health,” says Meghan O’Hearn, one of the researchers from Tufts University. “We need a complete overhaul (革新) of our healthcare system, food system, and living conditions, because this is a crisis for everyone.” Instead of just looking for signs of disease, the team focused their study on the signs of good, moderate, and poor cardiometabolic health. “Disease is not the only problem,” O’Hearn explains. “We don’t just want to be free of disease. We want to achieve optimal health and well-being.” Researchers also found large health gaps between US adults of different genders, ages, and education levels. Specifically, the study found Americans with less education were half as likely to be in peak cardiometabolic health. O’Hearn adds “Identifying these individuals and addressing their health conditions and lifestyle early is critical to reducing growing healthcare burdens. Its impacts on national healthcare spending and the financial health of the entire economy are enormous. And these conditions are largely preventable. We have the public health and clinical interventions and policies to be able to address these problems.” 32. What percentage of American adults had optimal cardiometabolic health in 2018? A. Over 7 percent. B. Just 6.8 percent. C. Around 33 percent. D. About 60 percent. 33. What does O’Hearn think of the results of the study? A. They’re unreal. B. They’re acceptable. C They’re expected. D. They’re shocking. 34. What is the purpose of the team’s research? A. To find the big age gap. B. To help people keep fit. C. To develop new drugs. D. To earn lots of profits. 35. What can we infer from O’Hearn’s words in the last paragraph? A. Joint effort is needed to improve public health. B. Economic growth affects personal health condition. C. America saw a slow decrease in healthcare costs. D. Rich people tend to suffer from health problems. We all know how emotionally taxing being a college student can be with difficult assignments, hundreds of pages of reading and challenging tests. ____36____ Here are some strategies helpful for you. ●Recognize sad feeling moments as a must. He was watching for kids darting out (窜出) from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick hit violently into the Jags side door! He stepped on the brakes and backed his Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, “What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That’s a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?” The young boy was apologetic. “Please, mister... please, I’m sorry but I didn’t know what else to do,” he explained. “I threw the brick because no one else would stop…” With tears rolling down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. “It’s my brother,” he said. “He rolled off the sidewalk and fell out of his wheelchair and I can’t lift him up.” Now sobbing, the boy asked the astonished manager, “Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He’s hurt and he’s too heavy for me.” Moved beyond words, the driver cooled his anger. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The driver watched the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 白银市二中2023-2024学年度(一)期中考试 高三年级英语 第Ⅰ卷(选择题 共110分) 第一部分听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。 How many students are there in the woman’s class? I love it but a trip to the cinema means a 55-minute boat journey plus a half-hour drive to the nearest town. That’s why we all get excited about the Screen Machine. It’s a mobile cinema that travels round the Scottish islands. Sometimes we get to see the latest movies. You can’t miss the huge, bright blue Screen Machine when it comes into the car park. It takes an hour to change it into a comfortable, air-conditioned 80-seat cinema. It’s amazing. I really admire the Screen Machine’s driver. Of course, he shows the movies. And there is always another person selling tickets. The salt in the sea air isn’t good for the truck’s motors so they also need a mechanic. Ticket prices are very reasonable, so as soon as the Screen Machine arrives, the ticket office phone starts ringing. We can now also book in advance on the Screen Machine website, which makes it even more convenient. And that’s the way most people choose now. It’s an amazing service. A No summer is complete without a good book in your hand. A 29. C 30. B 31. 根据文章第二段“School work becomes increasingly difficult as children grow up. So this is a time when some kids begin to do better in their school work while others struggle to understand more advanced and more difficult lessons. (随着孩子们的成长,学校作业变得越来越难。所以这个时候,一些孩子开始在学业上做得更好,而另一些孩子则在努力理解更高级、更难的课程。)”可知,随着学校的作业变得越来越难,学生在学业上也开始分裂了,有的学生会做得更好;而有的孩子则有点吃力。故选A。 根据划线单词下一句“It’s natural for them to be bored with their homework, but you have to think of ways to help them form the right habit to finish their homework when they get home. (他们对家庭作业感到厌倦是很自然的,但是你必须想办法帮助他们形成正确的习惯,当他们回家后完成家庭作业。)”可知,儿童对家庭感到厌倦很正常。由此推断,儿童并不愿意做作业。所以,划线单词和“不愿意”意思相近。选项A“Excited (兴奋的)”;选项B“Worried (担忧的)”;选项C“Unwilling (不乐意)”;选项D“Interested (感兴趣的)”。故选C。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“Many kids are busy with sports, music, and after-school activities. Others, however, may prefer to spend too many hours on the screen. It’s important to keep kids active at this age. (许多孩子忙于运动、音乐和课外活动。然而,其他人可能更喜欢花太多时间在屏幕上。让孩子在这个年龄保持活跃是很重要的。)”可知,作者建议学生要在身体上保持活跃;而根据文章第五段“Friends become a bigger deal for children during this time too. Attending birthday parties or playing with kids on the playground can be good for their development. (在这段时间里,朋友对孩子来说也变得更重要了。参加生日聚会或和孩子们在操场上玩对他们的发展有好处。)”以及最后一段“It’s important to talk to your child about kindness and respect so he doesn’t become a bully and it’s also quite necessary for you to talk about what he can do if he becomes a target. (跟你的孩子谈论善良和尊重是很重要的,这样他就不会变成欺负人的人,你也很有必要告诉他,如果他成为欺负人的目标,他能做什么。)”可知,孩子应该在心理上也保持健康。故选B。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第一段“Children will become more and more independent and will do what they would like to do. However, as parents, you ought to take care of your own children and have a better understanding of them in the following cases. (孩子们会变得越来越独立,会做他们想做的事情。然而,作为父母,你应该照顾好自己的孩子,并在以下情况下对他们有更好的了解。)”可知,文章是写给父母看的,以帮助父母更好地照顾自己的孩子,帮助孩子。故选C。 D A new study finds that less than seven percent of the adult population in the US have what health experts consider good cardiometabolic (心脏代谢) health. C. They’re expected. C. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: Moved beyond words, the driver cooled his anger. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair. On seeing the bleeding cuts, the man took out his white handkerchief and wiped the wound gently with great care. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. When the driver was about to leave, the young brother stepped forward. “Thank you and may God bless you,” said the grateful child, tears filling his eyes. Paragraph 2: The driver watched the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the damaged side door. He kept it there to remind him of this message: “Don’t go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!” God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don’t have time to listen, he has to throw a brick at us. It’s our choice to listen or not. 如:with great care,go through, get one’s attention等高级词汇;when引导的时间状语从句When the driver was about to leave, the young brother stepped forward等高级句式。
