According to Wang’s daughter, after he got the cats, he became much kinder. Wang treats the cats like his own kids, feeding them premium (优质的) cat food while he eats cheap waterfried buns. His truck was so full of cat things that there was almost no room for his own things.
In January, Wang announced that because of high blood pressure, he would no longer be able to drive trucks. After the Spring Festival, he decided to sell his truck and buy a secondhand van to travel the country with his elderly father and the cats.
A film about Wang and his cats came out on the Internet in January. During filming, Wang’s first cat, Fubao, fell ill and passed away. It was a moment shown in the film. When Wang saw it, he felt very upset. But later, he thanked the director for preserving Fubao’s final moments.

Many dog owners notice that their puppies act differently when they are between 6 and 12 months old. A recent study shows that dogs can be less obedient (顺从的) during this time. This stage is called puberty (发育期).
Both humans and dogs go through puberty. Humans change from children to adults, while dogs change from puppies to adults. During puberty, the brain changes a lot because of hormones (荷尔蒙). ▲ For example, teenagers might have trouble controlling their feelings, get angry easily, or take more risks. In humans, puberty starts around age eight or nine and ends in the midtwenties. This can be a hard time for parents and kids.
The relationship between a dog and its owner is similar to that of a parent and their child. Scientists wondered if (是否) dog puberty (which usually starts between six to nine months) might be a hard time for dogs and their owners.
To test this, scientists studied a group of guide dog puppies during their first year of life. They asked the people who took care of the dogs to answer some questions and also did some tests to see how the dogs acted.
The study found the following main ways that dogowner relationships during puberty are similar to parentchild relationships.
Dogs become less obedient to their owners during puberty (around eight months old). And female dogs that feel less safe with their owners start puberty earlier.
The good news is that these behavior changes aren’t permanent (永久的). By the time dogs are 12 months old, their behavior usually returns to normal or even improves.
( ) 21. What happens to dogs during puberty according to the text?
A. They stop growing.
B. They need less food.
C. They follow the rules better.
D. They are harder to control.
( ) 22. Which sentence can be put in “▲”?
A. They start to act more like adults.
B. The hormones make them look different.
C. They become more interested in the world.
D. These changes can make a difference in how they act.
( ) 23. Why did scientists study how the guide dog puppies acted?
A. To train them to be better guide dogs.
B. To find out if they can be used for other jobs.
C. To understand if puberty affects dogs’ behavior.
D. To see if they can be more obedient than other dogs.
( ) 24. What can we infer about the writer’s attitude towards the behavior changes in dogs during puberty?
A. He is very worried about the behavior changes in dogs.
B. He believes that the behavior changes are longlasting and serious.
C. He feels hopeful because the behavior changes don’t last forever.
D. He thinks that dog owners should be very strict during this period.
( ) 25. Why did the writer write the text?
A. To explain why dogs need training.
B. To show dogs are smarter than humans.
C. To tell us how puberty changes what dogs do.
D. To teach people to take care of their dogs during puberty.

Dear Eric,
I am writing to tell you something about my pet. My pet is a lovely cat named Mimi. She has short white fur and big blue eyes, which make her look like a little snowball. Mimi is very playful and friendly — she always runs to me when I come home and rubs her head against my legs.
Every day, she enjoys sleeping in the sun and chasing her tail. Her favorite food is fish, and she meows loudly when it’s time for meals. Mimi also loves to play with a small ball I bought for her.
Having Mimi as a pet makes my life full of joy. She’s not just a pet but a family member who brings warmth and happiness. I feel lucky to have her by my side every day.
Yours,
Li Ming
