Plastic waste is an increasingly important problem. Up to now, only 9% of the plastics ever produced have been recycled. The rest remain on earth for hundreds of years. They wash out to the ocean to become rubbish, harm wildlife and break down into small plastics that can enter the human brain and other parts of our bodies.
Recently, scientists have developed a new method to break down plastic waste with the help of water in the air. The researchers mixed a special metal and activated carbon (活性碳) with PET, the most common type of polyester (聚酯) plastic. Then they heated the mixture. After a short time, this broke the chemical connections in the polyester. Next, when the team left the material in the air, the mixture turned into TPA, a polyester material, and acetaldehyde, an industrial chemical. Finally, these valuable chemical materials were recycled.
After the first success, researchers tested the method on different plastics and found it worked on polyester plastic only. That meant they didn’t need to separate different kinds of plastics. Also, when they added water, it stopped working because the amount (数量) of water in the air was just right.
The team’s next plan will be to use the method widely in industry.
“It’s hopeful that our technology can hugely reduce plastic pollution, lower the environmental footprint of plastics and help materials be reused instead of being thrown away,” researchers said. “It’s a leap towards a cleaner, greener future, and it shows how creative chemistry can solve world challenges in a way that joins hands with nature.”

36.plays 37.But 38.for 39.first 40.methods 41.treating 42.who/that 43.quickly 44.has been 45.an
根据“Zhang Linghe, the 27-year-old actor who...him, explained...”
根据“...outside of work, he also has many hobbies...” 故填But。
根据“To prepare...this role, Zhang learned skills...”可知,“prepare for...” 故填for。
根据“This is my...time playing a doctor.”可知,这里是在说第一次做某事,“one”的序数词形式是first,表示“第一”,“this is one’s first time doing sth.” 故填first。
“Besides understanding the treatment...”
根据“The drama shows the medical applications of TCM, especially in...serious conditions.”
根据“he uses ‘wet cupping (拔罐)’ to help a patient... has trouble breathing.” 故填who/that。
根据“if this method doesn’t work, we must...turn to modern medical interventions”可知,这里需要一个副词来修饰动词“turn”,“quick”的副词形式是 quickly,表示“迅速地”。故填quickly。
根据“Since it started showing on international platforms, the drama... well - received by viewers overseas.” 结合故填has been。
根据“TCM is...important part of Chinese culture.” 故填an。

In the world of artificial intelligence (AI), an unexpected success story is in the news. DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company that started just last year, has done something amazing. Although it had fewer tools and equipment than big companies, it has created an AI system that works as well as those made by the world’s largest tech companies, and sometimes even better.
Its latest AI model, shown to the public in December 2024, shows a new way of thinking about technology. ▲ While big tech companies depend on powerful computers, DeepSeek found a special path forward. It’s like solving a picture puzzle (拼图): Instead of trying every piece one by one, it discovered clever methods to match the right pieces quickly.
What it has achieved is amazing. DeepSeek used only 2,048 computer chips (芯片) to build its system, while other companies usually need more than 16,000. Its AI can deal with information very fast. It is able to manage 60 pieces of information in just one second. This triumph comes from smart design, not just good programming.
What makes its achievement special is that it faced many challenges. While large companies can easily buy the newest technology, DeepSeek only had a small number of computer parts. However, it turned this problem into a chance to create better methods and better ways of working.
The success of DeepSeek teaches us something important: Having the biggest and most expensive tools isn’t always necessary to achieve great things. Its story proves that creative thinking and smart solutions (方法) can help overcome difficult challenges in technology.
21.Which of the following can be put in “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 2?
A.Its success is a result of years of research and development.
B.Many experts believe that Al will replace humans in the future.
C.The success has made DeepSeek a leader in the Al industry.

B.It did not have enough money for the project.
C.It did not have enough experienced researchers.
D.It had too much competition from big companies.
24.Which of the following can best describe the difference between DeepSeek and large companies?
A.B.C. D.
25.What is the main idea of this article?
A.Chinese companies are better than others at making AI.
B.Smart thinking and solutions can help achieve success.
C.AI technology has developed very quickly in recent years.
D.Big companies always have advantages over small ones.

When you go to the park, you might notice many old people listening to audiobooks (有声书) instead of reading paper books. 26 Why are more and more people choosing audiobooks over traditional books? Is listening to an audiobook just as useful as reading a book?
Reading needs us to pay attention to the words in the book, and we also need to find time and a place to sit down and read. 27 At the same time, it gives your eyes a break.
But the big question is, do we get knowledge from audiobooks as effectively (有效地) as we do from paper books? 28 Volunteers in Group One were asked to listen to an audiobook while volunteers in Group Two read a book of the same article. It turned out that they remembered the same amount (数量) of information, whether they listened to it or read it.
29 In the study, researchers studied people’s brains when they listened to and read books. The result showed that listening to audiobooks makes almost the same parts of the brain active as reading does.
However, some people still believe that we learn better from reading paper books. 30 If we’re trying to learn while doing two things, we’re not going to learn very well.
A.Another study further supported the result above.
B.Researchers did a scientific test to find the answer.
C.Audiobooks have become quite popular these days.
D.Young people are more likely to choose audiobooks than the old.
E.However, you can listen to audiobooks anytime and anywhere you like.
F.One reason is that when we listen to audiobooks, we need to do several tasks.
