Tune (曲调) : Pride of Fishermen
When autumn comes to the frontier, the scene (风景) looks drear,
South-bound wild geese won’t stay
E’en for a day.
An uproar rises with horns blowing far and near.
Walled in by peaks, smoke rises straight
At sunset over isolate town with fastened gate.
I hold a cup of wine, yet home is far ▲ ,
The Northwest is not won and I’m obliged to stay
At the flutes’ doleful sound
Over frost-covered ground,
None fall asleep,
The general’s hair turns white and soldiers weep.
Fan Zhongyan (989-1052) was famous for his work Notes on the Yueyang Tower. Its line “To be the first in the country to worry about the affairs of the state and the last to enjoy oneself is often used. Fan was not just a ci composer (词人) , but also a famous statesman (政治家) .
In the early Song Dynasty (960-1279), ci composers usually wrote about love and court (宫廷) life. But Fan Zhongyan’s ci included different topics. He focused on the life of soldiers. Pride of Fishermen is a good example.
Based on the writer’s own experience, this ci shows the hard life soldiers had and their homesickness (思乡). At the time, Fan led an army to fight against the Western Xia, which was to the northwest of Song. As he grew up in Suzhou, much farther south, he couldn’t get used to the weather. That’s why the first line of the piece uses the word “drear”. The following lines in the first part describe more about the hardship. For example, the isolated town was in great danger. The second part shows how much Fan and the soldiers missed home.
However, the ci doesn’t only focus on homesickness. Instead, it mixes both patriotic (爱国的) love with homesickness, creating a sad but real poetic atmosphere (氛围) .

C. played an important role in Song’s history
D. was a great ci composer and a famous statesman
7. What’s the main idea of the piece?
A. The hard life and the patriotic love of soldiers. B. The anger to the enemy and the war.
C. Sadness and disappointment to the emperor. D. Deeply missing families and hometown.

A castle was the fortress (堡垒) and home of a king or nobleman.
Most of the castles we think of today were built in Europe. They were built from about 1, 000 AD to about 1, 500 AD, during a period known as the Middle Ages.
Castles played an important role after the fall of the Roman Empire. When a king granted land to nobles, the nobles promised in return to serve the king and provide him with soldiers. Nobles built castles on the lands given to them. But some nobles simply claimed land as their own and built a castle on it. That was asking for trouble. There were many power struggles between nobles and kings, and among the nobles themselves.
A typical stone castle had several main parts. At the centre of the castle was a tall and very strong building called the keep. This is where people in the castle made their last stand if the outer defences (防御) failed. The keep was set in a courtyard, where there were workshops, stables, and a kitchen.
High, thick walls surrounded the keep and the courtyard. Strong, round defensive towers stood at the corners of the walls. Guards walked along the tops of the walls and towers.
Many stone castles were surrounded by a wide ditch called a moat (护城河). Some moats were filled with water, but many were not. The only way into the castle was across a wooden drawbridge over the moat. If enemies attacked, the defenders raised the bridge. Then they lowered a heavy iron-and-wood barrier called a portcullis to block the entrance to the castle.
A well-built castle was a pretty safe place to be. Attackers had a hard time getting in. But they still had some options. They could go over the walls using ladders. They could smash (撞碎) through the walls or doors. Or they could dig under the walls and try to get part of the wall to fall down. If none of those things worked, they could just camp outside until the defenders ran out of food.
Attackers sometimes brought large machines called siege engines with them to break through castle doors or walls. This was a heavy wooden beam with a metal cap. In the early 1500s, cannons entered wide use in warfare. Cannonballs could dig into the base of stone walls and weaken them. The walls then fell under their own weight. As a result, castles were no longer needed.
8. The underlined word “That” refers to the fact that ________.
A. nobles built castles on the lands given to them B. the nobles promised to serve the king in return
C. some nobles simply claimed land as their own D. the nobles provided the king with soldiers
9. How many choices are mentioned to occupy a castle before the sixteenth century?
A. 3 B. 4 C. 5 D. 6
10. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Some castles were built to attract more visitors.
B. Kings in ancient Europe were more generous.
C. Portcullises were used to break through castle doors.
D. Warfare must be common from 1 000 AD to about 1, 500 AD.
11. What is the best subtitle of the last two paragraphs?
A Attacking a castle B. Visiting a castle C. A pretty safe place D. Weakness of a castle
D
Since it was first published in 1843, the novella (短篇故事)A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens has been loved by millions of people, and perhaps has encouraged them to love more and give more. Dickens is known as the best author of the Victorian times writing on social issues influencing his times.
Charles was no strangers to poverty. His father had been thrown in prison for debt in 1824, and he had to drop school and start working as the second oldest child of eight children. ①
All his hopes and dreams of making something of his life were ended. It seemed not an adult in the world cared for his hopes or his abilities, not even his own parents. He wondered “how he could be so easily thrown away at such a young age”. ②
Eventually, he started writing stories for the papers. With money coming in and then children,Charles had taken a mortgage(抵押贷款)on a big house. His next novel was not as well received and his future payments were cut. Charles needed to make money and he needed to make it fast. Criticism (批评)of his new novel hurt his confidence; it is not easy to write when you are down and struggling. He needed new ideas and inspiration(激励), but he was running out of time.③
As he walked the streets after dark, through what he called the “black streets”of London, he again saw the poor ,who had little food or warmth in the cold weather, and the closed-up houses, like the doors of the hearts of many who do not want to love and give.④
He happened to find the idea of a Christmas story that could show this and warm the hearts of the poor and open the hearts of the selfish. He needed to write fast and that is probably why we only have a novella, but a novella was enough to share his story. He filled the story with character and scenes which he had already written about in his other stories, Scrooge, the main character,is a selfish self-centred man who hates Christmas the time of giving . His late business partner, also a greedy man, comes back from the dead as a ghost to warn Scrooge. You will need to read the story yourself to see how Scrooge finally changes his ways.
The plan to save himself financially also saved Dickens emotionally. As he wrote about Christmas and the wonderful time of gift giving, family gathering, carol singing and feast sharing, his own heart was cheered and he remembered those things that really mattered to him. He loved writing the book and produced a special story, which is still loved around the world. New inspiration and fresh confidence set Dickens on a new path to success.
12. What difficulties did Dickens face when writing A Christmas Carol?
A. Lack of (缺乏) time and education. B. Lack of love and confidence.
C. Lack of patience and ideas. D. Lack of inspiration and confidence.
13. Where should the sentence “It was the loneliest time of his life.”be put in the passage?
A. ① B. ② C. ③ D. ④
14. Why is A Christmas Carol such an important work according to the last paragraph?
A. It is very popular among readers. B. It serves as a turning point in Dickens’ writing career.
C. It helped Dickens make a great deal of money. D. Its theme is about a wonderful time full of love and giving.
15. What is the purpose of this article?
A. To show the greatness of Charles Dickens. B. To recommend some great works of Charles Dickens.
C. To present how poor Dickens’ life was. D. To introduce the book A Christmas Carol.

三、阅读表达(共5小题,满分15分;其中41-42小题2分,43题每题3分,44-45题4分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Are you an “I person” or an “E person”? These two personality labels (个性标签) are widely discussed online. They are part of a popular personality test called the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI. All of the results have four letters, and there are 16 results in total. “I” stands for “introverted (内向的)” and “E” refers to “extroverted”.
Even if someone is typically quiet, many online discussions suggest that an “I” person can still act outgoing at times. For example, when an introverted person is with a group of introverted friends, they might become more social like an “E” person. According to experts, this is called “masking”. That is hiding your true personality in some situations. Because human beings want to get the sense of belonging by pleasing others.
Using the MBTI result to identify (识别) and describe someone’s personality seems fun. However, I went too far at one time. My sister was excitedly making a day-to-day travel plan when I remembered from an article that “P people” don’t like to make or stick to plans, so I said to her, “You don’t seem like a ‘P person’.” “Why?” she asked back. “Since when do I need to follow what my personality test tells me to do?” It was then I realized I’d taken the result too seriously.
The MBTI personality test may show something you don’t know about yourself and can even be a fun ice-breaker question when meeting new friends. And that’s all it is—for fun. Knowing someone’s MBTI result doesn’t mean you really know this person. And those four letters of yours don’t define (定义) who you are.
41. What is MBTI?

42. What is “E person” like?

43. What does the underlined word “masking” in Paragraph 2 mean in English?

推理判断题。根据“They were built from about 1, 000 AD to about 1, 500 AD, during a period known as the Middle Ages.”和“Castles played an important role after the fall of the Roman Empire.”可知,此处是说城堡大多建于公元1000年至公元1500年以及说城堡在罗马帝国灭亡后发挥了重要作用。由此可推断在这一时期有很多战争。故选D。
【11题详解】
标题归纳题。根据倒数第二段开头“A well-built castle was a pretty safe place to be. Attackers had a hard time getting in. But they still had some options.”和最后一段“Attackers sometimes brought large machines called siege engines with them to break through castle doors or walls.”可知,最后两段主要是讲述攻击者怎么攻击城堡的。因此A项“攻击一座城堡”符合题意。故选A。

________________________
42. What is “E person” like?
________________________
43. What does the underlined word “masking” in Paragraph 2 mean in English?

44. Why does the writer mention the conversation with his sister?

45. I think MBTI is fun. Because it can show something I don’t know about myself./I think it is fun. Because it is a fun ice-breaker question when meeting new friends.或I don’t think MBTI is fun. Because the four letters of MBTI result don’t define who we are./ Because the MBTI can’t define a person./ Because the MBTI result doesn’t mean I really know this person.(开放性试题,言之成理即可)
