If you love art then, “Picasso” is going to speak a lot. Modern art is a result of Picasso’s work and he stands as a legendary figure in its birth. Pablo Picasso was born in Madrid on October 25, 1881. Picasso wasn’t just a painter of his time, he was an exceptional painter and his expertise didn’t just stop there. He was a sculptor, printmaker and stage designer. Due to his amazing skills and talent, he became an outstanding figure in all of these fields.
Picasso received training from his father who himself was an art teacher and a painter as well. Just at the age of 16, Picasso had already lost a liking to traditional art techniques and he desired to introduce something new. He began to experiment with different styles of art. Most of his life was spent in Paris, which was a city to be in if you were an artist in the early 20th century. During his stay in Paris, he became friends with Guillaume Apollinaire, Georges Braque, and Max Jacob. All of them were influential artists and writers of the time and they quickly became close friends.
With time, Picasso’s style continued to evolve. He explored different grounds like still life, portraits, mythological scenes, and landscapes. His work was bold and he always preferred to use innovative perspective. Picasso also excelled in other forms of art. He also produced sculptures, and collages, and even took an interest in theatrical productions.
His most famous work was “Guernica”, a typical example of cubist (立体主义的) style. He produced this in response to the Spanish Civil War when the town of Guernica suffered a horrifying bombing. To this day, his work is an iconic representation of war horrors.
On April 8, 1973, Picasso passed away in the city of Mougins, France. He left behind a legacy of art that is celebrated still to this day.

A. Madrid, because it was his birthplace.
B. Paris, because it was a center for artists in the early 20th century.

D. Guernica, because it inspired his most famous work.
7. What is a suitable title for the text?
A. The Life of a Spanish Actor: Picasso’s Journey

In a remote part of Ecuador’s Amazon rainforest, river transport is far more common than road travel. Here, boats move along the Wichimi River, a wide channel that snakes through the thick plants, and powering the silent boats is the Ecuadorian sunshine.
The boats have been provided by Kara Solar, a non-profit organization based in the region. The Achuar here are responsible for fixing, running and maintaining the boats — the solar boats are shaping daily life for the community by offering transport for education, health services and eco-tourism.
For years, many Achuar have used gasoline-powered boats on the river, but the oil must be flown in by plane from Ecuador’ s capital, Quito, making it more expensive and adding to the carbon emissions (碳排放) connected with its use. “Gasoline motors use a lot of oil and pollute the river,” said Angel Wasump, Kara Solar’s director of operations and a member of the Achuar community. “Since the solar boats arrived, families have been giving up these motors completely,” he added.
Formally launched in 2018, Kara Solar is staffed by members of the Achua r community. According to the organization, the boats operating in Ecuador have completed over 300 trips in total, carrying over 1,000 passengers and traveling over 450 kilometers per month. The most common uses are transporting local children to and from school and providing wildlife tours for eco-tourists.
As well as reducing carbon emissions and pollution, the silent boats mean eco-tourists can get a closer view of wildlife without scaring it away. “The boat serves as a symbol of what eco-friendliness could look like,” said Wasump. “It’s like a return to what’s most important in Achuar culture. These boats have represented a way for us to reconnect with this vision of what development could look like.”
8. What can we learn about the Achuar from the first two paragraphs?
A. They mostly earn their living by fishing.
B. They depend much on boats in their lives.
C. They are enthusiastic about voluntary work.
D. They have little contact with the outside world.
9. What is a reason for the introduction of the solar boats?
A. They travel faster. B. They are easy to operate.
C. They are cost-effective. D. They carry more passengers.
10. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The features of the solar boats.
B. The applications of the solar boats.
C. The effects of the solar boats on people’s lives.
D. The advantages of the solar boats over traditional ones.
11. What does Wasump intend to stress in the last paragraph?
A. Cultural difference. B. Community spirit.
C. Environmental awareness. D. Technological development.
About 1 million people use American Sign Language (ASL) as their main way to communicate. ASL is important for children’s development of language. But learning ASL is often not that easy.
Statistics show that 98 percent of hearing-impaired (听力受损) people do not receive their education in sign language and 72 percent of families do not communicate by signing. Since nine-out-of-ten children who are born without hearing are born to hearing parents, learning sign language skills are significant for these children and families.
Now, a new app makes it easier to learn. Fingerspelling. xyz, an app from Hello Monday — a creative studio — teaches the correct hand positions in real time on web browsers. The app uses people’s webcams to track their hand movements while checking their accuracy (准确性).
The app begins by giving the user a series of words and the hand positions for them. Then the app user tries the word and they are given feedback (反馈) until they can properly complete the word. While the app will not make someone fluent in ASL, the creators hope that it will encourage people to take a course on ASL and fingerspelling.
The new app is different from other language apps because of the gaming-like technology it uses. This technology offers a more attractive learning experience than the traditionally used methods of learning sign language which include books and videos. It’s important to note that in ASL, fingerspelling is used for names, when there is no sign for a word, or when a person doesn’t know the sign.
The game was created together with The American Society for Deaf Children, an organization devoted to bringing families together through sign language, is available for free. The organization also offers online courses and a directory of children’s stories that were translated into ASL. Language is a gift that is too important not to share.
12. What does the author imply in paragraph 2?
A. Many people don’t take ASL seriously.
B. ASL should be accessible to more people.
C. It is too difficult for people to learn ASL.
D. ASL enjoys great popularity in the country.
13. How does the app work?
A. By recognizing and translating texts.
B. By giving and correcting the hand positions.
C. By collecting and studying the user’s feedback.
D. By tracking and improving the user’s experience.
14. What is special about Fingerspelling. xyz?
A. It is convenient for the user to search.
B. It includes various books and videos.
C. It makes the learning more interesting.
D. It is based on face recognition technology.
15. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To introduce a product. B. To record an event.
C. To recommend a course. D. To comment on an invention.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was walking on the shore when I suddenly heard someone crying. It just drew my attention and I began to look around. Suddenly I saw a little child sitting on a rock who was crying. It was around twelve at night. “Why is he here? Why is he crying?” I wondered. And above all I couldn’ t see anyone around him, for he was too small to be alone. I approached him, initially he was frightened but I calmed him down and gave him a chocolate to eat. From the way he ate the chocolate I could make this out that he was very hungry.
I felt pity on him, who was a little boy around seven years old. His clothes were all torn. Now he was quite comfortable with me and I asked why he was crying. He told me to look at those waves in the sea and asked how I felt about them. I said they were beautiful. But he made an angry face and said he hated them, because these waves took his parents away. He was just five and since then he started wandering in this unknown city. No one loved him. These words “No one loved him” just took me into a flashback.
I suddenly recollected the dark memories of my life. I recalled that I was an orphan (孤儿) and how a couple adopted me when I was four years old. They did a lot for me, because of them today I am the engineer of the biggest shipping company. They were in a sense my true parents but I was so unfortunate that I lost them in an accident nearly three years ago. I remembered how I always wanted to thank them for what all they did for me but I couldn’t. I felt like this lttle boy was at the same situation like mine when I was a four-year old little kid.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Now it was my turn I told the little boy about my little old sad story and what I am today.

【答案】Dear Tom,
I’m glad to hear from you. Recently, I’ve been sticking to a study schedule, focusing on preparing for the midterm exams. I’ve made progress in chemistry by doing more experiments, but I’m really stuck in history—remembering all the dates and events feels overwhelming.
To solve this, I plan to make a timeline chart to organize historical events. I’ll also join a study group to discuss and quiz each other. Hoping these methods will work!

【答案】One possible version:
Now it was my turn I told the little boy about my little old sad story and what I am today. Tears rolled down both of our cheeks. I saw his eyes full of tears and my heart was full of love for him. So I asked if he would like to be with me. I was a thirty-seven-year-old man and he was seven. For the first time I saw that if I would have been married then my son would have been innocent like him. He was full of tears, hugged me and kissed me. He told no one has ever loved him like that after his parents’ death.
Now there was a different kind of peace that we both could feel on this shore. The only sound that we could hear was waves. The little boy thought for a while and then he took hold of my hand. He said that he accepted me as his friend. Today thirty years have passed, and I am sixty-seven years old, who retired a few years ago and the little boy is thirty-seven. Now he calls me dad and he is a famous doctor in a big hospital.
