I had nearsightedness. “Quite common and nothing to worry about,” said the doctor. But as my sight got worse, I couldn’t help but wonder what my life would be like from that moment on, especially at school. For a girl who was bullied (欺辱) by older, more popular girls since Grade 1,I was afraid of any kind of change and the fact that I had to wear glasses was making me shake. Even though the outside place was bad, being at home was a whole different story. I was in my own world where learning and imagination ruled. My glasses reminded me of everything I was curious, peaceful, and thirsty for knowledge a kid who had big plans for the future. But then the morning would come and I would fear to go to school. There were countless times when I would forget my glasses on purpose because I was afraid that I’d be an easy target. Sometimes I’d hide them in my schoolbag, until one day when the doctor ordered me to wear them all the time. But living in fear and hiding from the world wasn’t the answer. I knew I had to face my worries so I decided to make a change. I stopped wearing my hair down, and instead of wearing a hat, I started wearing ponytails (马尾辫). I put on my glasses and no longer cared about what others thought of me. And when I realized that the fear I was unwilling to face was just in my head, I was ready to embrace (欣然接受) the reality and move forward. My love of learning and being in school was much stronger than the fear I felt. Today I’m confident to wear my glasses in front of others. Still, even though people view me differently when I wear glasses today. I don’t mind it. I don’t need to look smarter. I know who I am. This gives me confidence and courage when I don’t feel that I have what it takes to continue. 4. How did the author feel in the doctor’s office? A. Awkward. B. Nervous. C. Calm. D. Curious. 5. What kind of girl was the author in fact? A. She was eager to learn. B. She was an outgoing girl. C. She was patient with her classmates. D. She was confident of her imagination. 6. How did the author deal with her fear finally? A. She turned to a doctor for help. B. She hid herself from the world. C. She accepted the fact and changed herself. D. She wore a hat to make her glasses unnoticeable. 7. What does the underlined word“ it” refer to in the last paragraph? A. Feeling fear. B. Others’ opinion. C. Wearing glasses. D. Her grade. C Airports are becoming more accessible for disabled people with wheelchair service. Now, one airline is going the extra mile to make airplanes more accessible too. Delta recently showed a new seat prototype (雏形) at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany, which will allow passengers that are wheelchair users to stay in their own chairs during the flight. The design, shown by Delta Flight Products (DFP), will allow for in-flight comfort and make it easier for the wheelchair users to get on the plane. “This design offers new possibilities for customers with disabilities to enjoy a travel experience they truly should have,” DFP president Rick Salanitri said. The new design includes a seat that can change between the wheelchair mode and a traditional airplane seat. The built-in seat folds (折叠) up so that a wheelchair can be safely fixed in place. The passengers seated in the chair’s wheelchair mode are able to use the tray table that is designed to rise up to the suitable height when the seat is changed. The seats would be fixed into the present plane seat track systems, so no structural changes would have to be made to airplanes. Having wheelchairs onboard will also solve the issue of wheelchairs getting lost or broken by airlines. According to the 2023 Air Travel Consumer Report, more than 11,000 wheelchairs and scooters (踏板车), 1.5%of the total, were mishandled by US airlines. DFP has already started discussions with the US Federal Aviation Administration and the UK Civil Aviation Authority with the goal of getting this seat on every airplane ; not just the Delta ones. While airplanes are still not going to be completely accessible — the restrooms are too small to use a wheelchair in — solutions may be just around the corner. The new accessible airplane seat could be just the beginning of the age of inclusive (包含一切的) travel. 8. What might be DFP’s purpose of developing the new seat? A. To attract more passengers to the airline. B. To make airplane seats more comfortable. C. To give passengers safer travel experience. D. To improve wheelchair users’ flight experience. 9. What does the fourth paragraph mainly focus on? A. The expectations for the new seat. B. How the new seat works. C. The functions of the new seat. D. Which airlines offer the new seat. 10. What does the underlined word “mishandled” mean in paragraph 5? A. Managed badly. B. Examined carelessly. C. Used too much. D. Paid no attention to. 11. What does the author think of the new seat? A. It is well received. B. It will drive more changes. C. It needs to be tested further. D. It contributes much to airlines. D At your next meeting, wait for a pause (暂停)in conversation and try to measure how long it lasts. Among English speakers, chances are that it will be a second or two at most. But while this pattern may be universal, our awareness of silence differs dramatically across cultures. What one culture considers a confusing or awkward pause may be seen by others as a valuable moment of reflection and sign of respect for what the last speaker has said. Research in Dutch and also in English found that when a silence in conversation stretches to four seconds, people start to feel uneasy. In contrast, a separate study of business meetings found that Japanese people are happy with silences of 8.2 seconds — nearly twice as long as in Americans’ meetings. In Japan, it is recognized that the best communication is when you don’t speak at all. It’s already a failure to understand each other by speaking because you’re repairing that failure by using words. In the US, it may originate from the history of colonial (殖民地) America as a crossroads of many different races. When you have a complex of difference, it’s hard to establish common understanding unless you talk and there’s understandably a kind of anxiety unless people are verbally(口头上) engaged to establish a common life. This applies also to some extent to London. In contrast, when there’s more homogeneity, perhaps it’s easier for some kinds of silence to appear. For example, among your closest friends and family it’s easier to sit in silence than with people you’re less well familiar with. 12. Which of the following people might have the longest silence in conversation? A. The Dutch. B. Americans. C. The English. D. The Japanese. 13. What might the Japanese agree with in a conversation? A. Speaking more gives the upper hand. B. Speak out what you have in your mind. C. Great minds think alike without words. D. The shorter talking silence, the better. 14. What can we learn from the text? A. A four second silence in conversation is universal. B. It’s hard for Japanese to reach a common agreement. C. English speakers are more talkative than Japanese speakers. D. The closer we and our family are, the easier the silence appears. 15. What does the underlined word “homogeneity” in the last paragraph mean? A. Similarity. B. Competition. C. Balance. D. Misunderstanding. Is it bad to work out in cold weather? ____16____. They were on a field trip to the forest as part of a science lesson. Over there, they met the forester (护林人), Victor. When William learned Victor lived in a simple wooden house there for years, he laughed at him with his friends. Then, they passed by an entrance to a cave. William wanted to explore inside the cave, but his teacher didn’t allow it. “I’ll come back here,” he thought. On the way back to school, he remembered the exact location of the cave. The next day, William asked his four friends to the cave together. They told their parents they would go to the library and return home in the evening. None of the teenagers told their parents about their plan to visit the cave. When the teenagers reached the cave, they left their school bags outside to reduce the burden. One by one, they entered the cave. Just when they took a few steps inside, some rocks from the cave wall fell and blocked the entrance. “How are we going to get out now?” one of the teenagers Sarah shouted. William had an idea and said, “Maybe we can try digging through the fallen rocks with our hands to reach the entrance.” But realizing getting out of the cave only by their hands was impossible, they had great fear. The sun was about to go down. The teenagers started calling for help, but nobody could hear them. The teenagers were losing hope. Victor happened to pass by the entrance to the cave, and five school bags caught his attention. He also heard some sounds coming from inside the cave. “Who’s in there?” Victor shouted. “I’m William! We came here yesterday with our teacher!” William replied instantly. “Help us, please! We are stuck! A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇应用文。本文主要介绍了世界上四个值得一去的地方。 【1题详解】 细节理解题。根据“Maldives”部分关键句“What to know: The Maldives is the lowest-lying country on the planet and may disappear in the future because of the rising sea level, so forward-thinking green actions are a matter of survival. (需要了解的是:马尔代夫是地球上地势最低的国家,未来可能会因海平面上升而消失,因此具有前瞻性的绿色行动关乎生存。)”可知,马尔代夫是地球上地势最低的国家;根据“Tasmania, Australia”部分关键句“The key to the attraction of Australia’s southernmost state is its natural beauty, which depends largely on the lasting green spirit of about half a million people there. (澳大利亚最南端的州之所以具有吸引力,关键在于其自然美景,这在很大程度上取决于那里约50万人持久的绿色精神。)”可知,塔斯马尼亚州是澳大利亚最南端的州,综上所述,在马尔代夫和塔斯马尼亚的自然美景中,独特的地理位置可能发挥了作用。故选C项。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据“Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia”部分关键句“What to know: Kamchatka is part of the Ring of Fire, the chain (一连串) of volcanoes. And six separate areas of Kamchatka Peninsula are included within the Volcanoes of Kamchatka UNESCO World Heritage Sites. My heart was beating fast as I was waiting to get the result. D. Her grade. 【答案】4. B 5. A 6. C 7. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者从十四岁开始近视,由于害怕被欺负而不敢戴眼镜,后来作者逐渐接受现实,并最终变得自信。 【4题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第一段中“I was fourteen, sitting in the doctor’s office with my eyes closed. My heart was beating fast as I was waiting to get the result.(我十四岁,闭着眼睛坐在医生的办公室里。当我在等待结果的时候,我的心跳得很快。)”可知,作者在医生办公室里感到紧张。故选B项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段中的“My glasses reminded me of everything I was curious, peaceful, and thirsty for knowledge a kid who had big plans for the future.(我的眼镜让我想起了所有我好奇、平静和渴望知识的事情——一个对未来有宏伟计划的孩子。)”可知,作者实际上是一个渴望学习的女孩。故选A项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第五段中的“I knew I had to face my worries so I decided to make a change. I stopped wearing my hair down, and instead of wearing a hat, I started wearing ponytails (马尾辫). I put on my glasses and no longer cared about what others thought of me.(我知道我必须面对我的担忧,所以我决定做出改变。我不再披着头发,而是开始扎马尾辫,不再戴帽子。我戴上了眼镜,不再在乎别人对我的看法。)”可知,作者最终接受了事实并改变了自己。故选C项。 【7题详解】 词句猜测题。根据文章最后一段“Still, even though people view me differently when I wear glasses today. I don’t mind it.(尽管如此,即使今天我戴眼镜时人们对我的看法不同。我不介意。)”可知,作者不介意别人对她戴眼镜的看法。因此,it指的是“别人的看法”。故选B项。 C Airports are becoming more accessible for disabled people with wheelchair service. 【答案】8. D 9. B 10. A 11. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了达美航空(Delta)在飞机内饰设计上的一项创新,旨在提高飞机对使用轮椅的残疾乘客的可达性。 【8题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“The design, shown by Delta Flight Products (DFP), will allow for in-flight comfort and make it easier for the wheelchair users to get on the plane.(达美航空产品公司(DFP)展示的这一设计,既能让乘客在飞行中享受舒适体验,又能方便轮椅使用者登机。)”可知,DFP开发新席位的目的是改善轮椅使用者的飞行体验。故选D。 【9题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第四段“The new design includes a seat that can change between the wheelchair mode and a traditional airplane seat. The built-in seat folds (折叠) up so that a wheelchair can be safely fixed in place. The passengers seated in the chair’s wheelchair mode are able to use the tray table that is designed to rise up to the suitable height when the seat is changed. The seats would be fixed into the present plane seat track systems, so no structural changes would have to be made to airplanes.(新设计包括一个可以在轮椅模式和传统飞机座椅之间切换的座位。内置的座椅可以折叠,这样轮椅就可以安全地固定在合适的位置。坐在轮椅模式的乘客可以使用托盘桌,托盘桌的设计可以在更换座位时上升到合适的高度。这些座椅将被固定在现有的飞机座椅轨道系统中,因此无需对飞机进行结构改变。)”可知,第四段主要讲的是新席位的工作原理。故选B。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第五段“Having wheelchairs onboard will also solve the issue of wheelchairs getting lost or broken by airlines.(在飞机上安装轮椅还可以解决轮椅被航空公司弄丢或损坏的问题。)”可知,原来有被航空公司处理不当的轮椅,划线词所在句子表示“根据2023年航空旅行消费者报告,美国航空公司处理不当的轮椅和踏板车超过1.1万辆,占总数的1.5%。”,划线词mishandled意为“处理不当”,和managed badly意思相近,故选A。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“The new accessible airplane seat could be just the beginning of the age of inclusive (包含一切的) travel.(新的无障碍飞机座椅可能只是包容性旅行时代的开始。)”可知,作者认为新座椅将推动更多的变化。故选B。 D At your next meeting, wait for a pause (暂停)in conversation and try to measure how long it lasts. 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. D 15. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了谈话中的沉默文化。尽管交谈中出现停顿是普遍存在的,但我们对沉默的认识在不同的文化中有着巨大的差异。不同的文化中沉默时间不同,对于沉默的看法也不同。相比而言,亲密的朋友和家人之间更容易出现沉默。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Among English speakers, chances are that it will be a second or two at most.(对于说英语的人来说,可能最多一两秒钟)”及第三段“Research in Dutch and also in English found that when a silence in conversation stretches to four seconds, people start to feel uneasy. In contrast, a separate study of business meetings found that Japanese people are happy with silences of 8.2 seconds — nearly twice as long as in Americans’ meetings.(荷兰语和英语的研究发现,当对话中的沉默持续4秒时,人们就会开始感到不安。相反,另一项针对商务会议的研究发现,日本人对8.2秒的沉默感到满意,这几乎是美国人会议沉默时间的两倍)”可知,日本人可能在谈话中有最长沉默。故选D。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“In Japan, it is recognized that the best communication is when you don’t speak at all.(在日本,人们认为最好的交流方式是什么都不说)”可推知,日本人在对话中可能会同意“心有灵犀一点通”。故选C。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“For example, among your closest friends and family it’s easier to sit in silence than with people you’re less well acquainted with.(例如,在你最亲密的朋友和家人面前,保持沉默比和你不太熟悉的人在一起更容易)”可推知,亲密的人之间更容易出现沉默,因此我们和家人越亲密,沉默越容易出现。故选D。 【15题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词下文的举例“For example, among your closest friends and family it’s easier to sit in silence than with people you’re less well acquainted with.(例如,在你最亲密的朋友和家人面前,保持沉默比和你不太熟悉的人在一起更容易)”可推知,越亲近的人,越容易出现沉默,因此推断划线所在句意为“相比而言,当有更多相似时,也许沉默更容易出现”。由此可知,划线词意思与similarlity意义相近。故选A。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Is it bad to work out in cold weather? Sarah can’t breathe here because of fear.” “Okay, calm down, children!” Victor said. “I’ll help you get out!” 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: Victor immediately called the first-aid center and rushed home. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Soon, the teenagers walked outside the cave and took a deep breath in the fresh air. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Victor immediately called the first-aid center and rushed home. After a little while, Victor got back to the entrance with a shovel and a flashlight. “Hey! I’m back!” he shouted, assuring the kids that he would rescue them. Then, he began digging through the rocks at the entrance. It wasn’t easy for one man to dig through the rocks, but he was trying his best. Meanwhile, William and his friends tried to stay calm and told Sarah not to worry. A few minutes later, William and his friends could see the flashlight shine through the cave’s entrance, which made them excited. Soon, the teenagers walked outside the cave and took a deep breath in the fresh air. Fortunately, Sarah felt better. Just then, medical workers arrived and examined the children carefully to make sure they were OK. William looked at Victor who was worn out and regretted making fun of him when they first met. He apologized to the great forester and thanked him for rescuing him and his friends. Later, the teenagers’ parents arrived and were grateful to Victor for his timely rescue. Also, the teenagers promised their parents they wouldn’t lie and take such a dangerous adventure again. 返回:go back to/return to ②.确保:make sure/ensure ③.营救:rescue/save 情绪类 ①.感谢:show their appreciation/show their gratitude/be grateful ②.兴奋的:excited/thrilled 【点睛】[高分句型1] A few minutes later, William and his friends could see the flashlight shine through the cave’s entrance, which made them excited.
