There are several kinds of pre-made foods: ready-to-eat food, ready-to-heat food and ready-to-cook food. These foods usually require heating or cooking first before being served. People want to know if pre-made meals are healthy enough for teenagers.
Many people think that pre-made foods are less healthy because they usually need to be kept in fridges. In fact, keeping food in fridges does not cause nutrition (营养) loss,” Liu Junya, a 33-year-old teacher in diet in Beijing said. “But nutrition loss does happen when we heat or fry the food,” Liu said.
“Besides, many pre-made food companies put the taste of food ahead of nutrition,” said Liu. This leads to higher level of salt and sugar in the food and may cause serious health problems in the long term.
Additives (添加剂) are another problem of pre-made foods. They are not only used to improve the taste of the food, but also used to increase its life and color. In China, food companies have already had modern technology to keep pre-made foods fresh without any additives. But it’s still necessary that customers should buy pre-made foods from big and trusted food companies or supermarkets.
People hope that there will be strict rules to improve the hygiene of pre-made meals. After all, food safety comes first. “We believe that if pre-made foods are both delicious and safe, they can become a popular choice for busy students, workers, and families. But now, no one can tell what will happen. We just need to wait and see,”Liu said.

Electronic waste, or e-waste, is the name given to old electronic devices (设备) that get thrown away. These can include old computers, phones, TVs, as well as all kinds of other electronic devices. While electronics can make life easier, the devices aren’t good for the environment.
As new electronic products come out, huge amounts of the old ones are thrown away instead of being recycled. The chemicals (化学品) inside them may be a danger to the environment. If they get into the ground or water, the pollution can cause serious problems.
A group known as WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Forum is trying to make people pay more attention to the problems of e-waste. Recently, WEEE Forum asked researchers from the United Nations (UN) to study a kind of e-waste that’s often not noticed because people don’t consider the things to be electronics. WEEE Forum calls these things unseen waste.
The UN study showed that about 1/6 of all e-waste is unseen, and that the value of this unseen waste is actually about $ 9.5 billion a year. Such e-waste weighs about 9 billion kilograms. WEEE Forum says if we put this e-waste into 40-ton trucks and line them up, the truck line would be about 5,630 kilometers long.
The most unexpected type of the unseen e-waste is toys. Worldwide, about 7.3 billion electronic toys are thrown away each year. These include things like electric trains and musical toys. They also include toys with electronic parts, like dolls that speak or games with electronic timers. In all, toys make up about 35% of unseen e-waste.
WEEE Forum is hoping that more people will make a much greater effort to make sure electronic products get recycled.
51. What’s the second paragraph mainly about?
A. The danger of electronic waste.
B. The amount of electronic waste.
C. The development of electronic products.
52. How does the writer develop Paragraph 4?
A. By telling stories. B. By listing numbers. C. By giving examples.
53. Which of the following is the unseen e-waste?
A. B. C.
54. WEEE Forum will agree that people should ________________.
A. keep away from electronic products
B. avoid producing waste in their life
C. play a role in recycling electronic products
55. What is the main purpose of this passage?
A. To introduce different types of electronic products.
B. To tell people the harm of e-waste and encourage recycling.
C. To explain how the WEEE Forum works on e-waste research.

Ⅸ.任务型读写 (共8小题,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,按要求完成下列各题。
Wang Chengbang is a true hero of our times. After retiring (退役) from the army in 1988, this brave man chose to fight against deserts (沙漠) instead of enjoying a relaxing life. He went to Xinjiang, northwest China to plant trees, but it is not an easy job.
The desert sun burns like fire in summer, with temperatures often reaching over 40℃. The high temperature makes it difficult for anyone to work day after day in the sunshine. Wang still remembers the days when his clothes completely got wet. Besides, water shortage (短缺) is a big challenge (挑战). Xinjiang only gets very little rain each year, and this makes it hard for the small trees to grow up. In fact, more than half of the trees they planted died at first because there wasn’t enough water.
But Wang never gave up. “After trying many different ways, I have learned how to grow young trees in a better way in hot weather,” said Wang Chengbang. He also worked out new ways to save water. With his hard work, more and more trees have been planted. So far, he has planted more than 1.5 million trees. These green soldiers help to hold the sand, clean the air and protect people from the hot sun.
In 2005, Wang suffered from a serious illness. However, he continued taking care of his trees rather than lying on the hospital bed. “Working is the best medicine. Planting trees helps me fight cancer,” he often jokes. Surprisingly, his health improved.
Today, at the age of 88, Wang still works in the desert every day. He shows that even a small action can make a big difference. “As long as I can move, I’ll keep planting trees,” he says. For Wang Chengbang, protecting the environment is a lifelong job.

My Favorite Saying
Sayings are full of wisdom and carry rich experience from the past. The saying I like most is “Many hands make light work”, which means teamwork makes tasks easier.
Last term, our class needed to clean the schoolyard. At first, working alone made the job seem endless. Then our monitor advised us to work in groups. Some students swept the floor and others picked up the rubbish. With everyone’s help, we finished quickly and felt proud.
This experience taught me the value of teamwork. Now, whenever I face a difficult task, I remember this saying. It encourages me to work with others. I believe that with teamwork, we can finish the task better.

My Favorite Saying
Sayings are full of wisdom and carry rich experience from the past. The saying I like most is “No pains, no gains.” It tells us that if we want to achieve something, we must work hard.
I really love this saying, for it always brings back memories of my hard - working days. Last year, I was quite weak in math and often got low scores in exams. Although I felt sad, I didn’t give up. Instead, I made up my mind to work hard to improve my math. Every day, I spent some time reviewing the math knowledge first. Then, I did a lot of exercises. When I had problems, I asked my teacher for help as well. Day by day, my math skills improved gradually. Finally, in the final exam, I achieved a good grade, which made me quite happy.
Whenever I face difficulties, this saying gives me the courage to keep going. I firmly believe that as long as I keep working hard, I will achieve my dream one day.
