阅读下面四篇语言材料,然后按文后要求做题。
A
Solar eclipse (日食)
The moon moves around the earth, making a full trip all the way around our planet once every month. A solar eclipse happens when the moon gets right between the sun and the earth.
A total solar eclipse is when the moon completely covers the sun in the sky. When the moon does this, it blocks some of the sun’s light and casts (投射) a big shadow on the earth only lasting a few minutes.
A partial solar eclipse is when the moon passes over just a little bit. When this happens, the sun looks like a chunk (大块) is missing.
Lunar eclipse (月食)
As the moon moves in an orbit (轨道) around the earth, the earth orbits the sun. When the earth moves between the sun and the moon, it blocks the sunlight that normally is reflected by the moon. The earth’s shadow falls on the moon. A lunar eclipse usually lasts for a few hours.
A total lunar eclipse happens when the moon and the sun are on exact opposite sides of the earth. Although the moon is in the earth’s shadow, some sunlight reaches the moon, The sunlight passes through the earth’s atmosphere (大气层), which filters (过滤) out
most of the blue light. This makes the moon appear red to people on the earth.
A partial lunar eclipse happens when part of the moon enters the earth’s shadow. In a partial eclipse, the earth’s shadow appears very dark on the side of the moon facing the earth. What people see from the earth during a partial lunar eclipse depends on how the sun, the earth and the moon align (排列).

There isn’t much doubt that one of the most influential people in my life was my grandmother Lizzie Kerns.
My brother Mark started the family custom of moving in with Granny Kerns during our high school years. I lived with her all through my senior year. She lives very close to the school, so I’d come over and eat lunch with her. On game days, I’d come over and take a nap for two hours, Granny would always wake me up on time. When I just wanted to sleep in, Granny always said, “Larry, those other boys are down there. You should be down there with them.” I got up and went to the practice.
Mark and I would be at Granny’s for supper and later on, just before it was time to go to bed, Mark would say, “Mmm, some popcorn would taste good right now. Larry, what would you think about some popcorn?” Granny wouldn’t say a thing. But the next thing you knew, she’d have that pan out and you’d hear that popping sound in the kitchen.
Granny was proud of all her grandkids. Oh, she read everything about me she could get her hands on and she knew I’d signed contracts (合同) for big money, but she never discussed it. None of us got special treatment. Granny loved all of us and that’s the way it should be.
I’d have given her anything, but what she really wanted was security. Granny just wanted to know she had enough to get by. She always told me one thing, “I’m not afraid to die. When I get old and can’t do it anymore, I’m not going to be afraid to die.” That showed me a lot. Unfortunately, Granny passed away while I was writing this, so she was never able to see that I dedicated (献给) my book to her.

Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, while causing fewer injuries (伤害), research shows. It does, however, have its own problem.
Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport’s rules require that a race walker’s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact (接触) with the ground at all times. It’s this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass.
________. According to most calculations (计算), race walkers moving at a speed of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories (卡路里) per hour. Although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1,000 or more calories per hour, it is about twice as many as they would burn while walking.
“However, race walking does not hit the body as much as running does,” Dr. Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with about four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step.
As a result, she says, “some of the injuries connected with running, such as a runner’s knee, are uncommon among race walkers.” But the sport’s strange form does place lots of stress on the ankles (脚踝) and hips (臀部), so people with a history of such injuries might want to be careful when trying the sport. “In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult (咨询) a coach or experienced racer to learn proper skills,” she says. It takes some practice.

【答案】例文
My ideas on AI
Hello, everyone! I’m glad to be invited to join this program. With the rapid development of science and technology, Artificial Intelligence becomes more and more popular in our daily life.
Artificial Intelligence can chat with people and help solve people’s problems. For example, it can help the students do homework correctly and solve the subject problems. With AI’s help, people can free themselves from over-work and spend more time on what they are interested in.
However, it also has many disadvantages. If we always depend on it, it will make us lazy in mind. Its appearance will reduce people’s job opportunities.
In my opinion, AI is a double-edged sword. Instead of worrying about its negative effects, you should learn more about how to use it properly.

根据材料内容选择最佳答案。
11. Which of following is walking race?
A. B. C. D.

13. What advantage does race walking have over running?
A. It’s more attractive. B. It burns lots of calories.
C. It doesn’t do any harm to the body. D. It causes fewer knee injuries.
14. What can we learn about race walking from the passage?
A. It is much safer than running and walking.
B. It will take the place of running in the future.
C. It is a sport that requires certain special skills.
D. It is a perfect form of exercise for everyone to try.
15. What’s the purpose of writing this passage?
A. To introduce a form of exercise.
B. To encourage people to try race walking.
