My name is Alice. Early last year, I was troubled by an anxiety that crippled ( 削弱 ) my ability to do anything. I felt like a storm cloud hung over me. For almost a year I struggled on, constantly staring at this wall that faced me. My perfectionist tendencies were the main root of this: I wanted to be perfect at whatever I did, which obviously in life is not possible, but it consumed me.
One day, I attended a presentation by wildlife conservationist Grant Brown at my high school. His presentation not only awed and inspired me, but also helped emerge an inner desire to make a difference in the world. I joined a pre-presentation dinner with him and that smaller setting allowed me to slowly build up my courage to speak one-on-one with him—an idea that had seemed completely impossible. This first contact was where my story began.
A month later, Brown invited me to attend the World Youth Wildlife Conference. Looking back, I now see that this would be the first in a series of timely opportunities that my old self would have let pass, but that this new and more confident Alice enthusiastically seized. Shortly after I received his invitation, applications to join the Youth for Nature and the Youth for Planet groups were sent around through my high school. I decided to commit to completing the applications, and soon I was a part of a growing global team of young people working to protect nature. Each of these new steps continued to grow my confidence.
I am writing this just six months since my journey began and I’ve realised that my biggest obstacle ( 障碍 ) this whole time was myself. It was that voice in the back of my head telling me that one phrase that has stopped so many people from reaching their potential: I can’t. They say good things come to those who wait; I say: grab every opportunity with everything you have and be impatient. After all, nature does not require our patience, but our action.
4. What was the main cause for Alice’s anxiety?
A. Her inability to act her age. B. Her habit of consumption.
C. Her desire to be perfect. D. Her lack of inspiration.
5. How did Grant Brown’s presentation influence Alice?
A. She decided to do something for nature. B. She tasted the sweetness of friendship.
C. She learned about the harm of desire. D. She built up her courage to speak up.
6. The activities Alice joined in helped her to become more ________.
A. intelligent B. confident C. innovative D. critical
7. What can we learn from this passage?
A. Practice makes perfect. B. Patience is a cure of anxiety.
C. Action is worry’s worst enemy. D. Everything comes to those who wait.
C 5. A 6. B 7. C
由文章第一段“My perfectionist tendencies were the main root of this: I wanted to be perfect at whatever I did, which obviously in life is not possible, but it consumed me.(我的完美主义倾向是这一点的主要根源:无论我做什么,我都想做到完美,这在生活中显然是不可能的,但它消耗了我。)”
由文章第二段“One day, I attended a presentation by wildlife conservationist Grant Brown at my high school. His presentation not only awed and inspired me, but also helped emerge an inner desire to make a difference in the world. (一天,我在高中参加了野生动物保护主义者Grant Brown的演讲。他的演讲不仅让我感到敬畏和鼓舞,还帮助我产生了一种内在的愿望,希望在世界上有所作为。)”和文章第三段“ Shortly after I received his invitation, applications to join the Youth for Nature and the Youth for Planet groups were sent around through my high school. I decided to commit to completing the applications, and soon I was a part of a growing global team of young people working to protect nature. (在我收到他的邀请后不久,我的高中就收到了加入“Youth for Nature”和“Youth for Plane”组织的申请。我决定致力于完成这些申请,很快我就成为了一个日益壮大的全球年轻人保护自然团队的一员。)”可知,是Grant Brown让作者开始为从事保护自然地活动中。故选A项。
由文章第三段“I decided to commit to completing the applications, and soon I was a part of a growing global team of young people working to protect nature. Each of these new steps continued to grow my confidence.(我决定完成申请,很快我就成为了一个不断壮大的全球年轻人保护自然团队的一员。每一步都让我更加自信。)”可知,Alice 加入这些活动让她变得更自信了。故选B项。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。由第一段“ Early last year, I was troubled by an anxiety that crippled ( 削弱 ) my ability to do anything. I felt like a storm cloud hung over me.”(去年年初,我被一种焦虑困扰,它削弱了我做任何事情的能力。)由文章第三段“I decided to commit to completing the applications, and soon I was a part of a growing global team of young people working to protect nature. Each of these new steps continued to grow my confidence.(我决定完成申请,很快我就成为了一个不断壮大的全球年轻人保护自然团队的一员。每一步都让我更加自信。)可知,文章主要讲述作者通过参加保护自然活动治愈好了自己的焦虑。所以从文章中我们能学到行动是忧虑最大的敌人。故选C项。
C
We live in a town with three beaches. There are two parts less than 10 minutes’ walk from home where neighborhood children gather to play. However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen — any screen — and stare at it for hours. They are not alone. Today’s children spend an average of four and a half hours a day looking at screens, split between watching television and using the Internet.
In the past few years, an increasing number of people and organisations have begun coming up with plans to counter this trend. A couple of years ago film-maker David Bond realised that his children, then aged five and three, were attached to screens to the point where he was able to say “chocolate” into his three-year-old son’s ear without getting a response. He realised that something needed to change, and, being a London media type, appointed himself “marketing director from Nature”. He documented his journey as he set about treating nature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the World Network, a group of organisations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.
“Just five more minutes outdoors can make a difference,” David Bond says. “There is a lot of really interesting evidence which seems to be suggesting that if children are inspired up to the age of seven, then being outdoors will be on habit for life.” His own children have got into the habit of playing outside now: “We just send them out into the garden and tell them not to come back in for a while.”
Summer is upon us. There is an amazing world out there, and it needs our children as much as they need it. Let us get them out and let them play.
8. What is the problem with the author’s children?
A. They often annoy their neighbours. B. They are tired of doing their homework.
C. They have no friends to play with D. They stay in front of screens for too long.
9. How did David Bond advocate his idea?
A. By making a documentary film. B. By organizing outdoor activities.
C. By advertising in London media. D. By creating a network of friends.
10. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “charts” in paragraph 2?
A records B. predicts C. delays D. confirms
11. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Let Children Have Fun B. Young Children Need More Free Time
C. Market Nature to Children D. David Bond: A Role Model for Children
D 9. A 10. A 11. C
根据第一段中的“However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen — any screen — and stare at it for hours. (然而,我的孩子们放学后想做的是拿起一个屏幕——任何屏幕——盯着它看几个小时)”可知,作者的孩子一放学后就想拿起屏幕,他们在屏幕前呆的时间太长了,这是一个问题。故选D项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第二段“He documented his journey as he set about treating nature as a brand to be marked to young people. (他记录了他的旅程,他开始把大自然当作一个品牌,让年轻人看到)”可知,David Bond通过拍一个纪录片宣传他的想法。故选A项。
根据本句“a film which charts the birth of the World Network, a group of organisations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.(这部电影charts世界网络的诞生,世界网络这个组织的共同目标是让孩子们走进大自然。),由“a film”可知,本句主语是一部电影,下文“the birth of the World Network (世界网络的诞生)”解释了这部电影的主旨。由此推知,划线词charts意为“记录、描绘”,与“records”意思一致。故选A项。
根据第二段中的“He documented his journey as he set about treating nature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the World Network, a group of organisations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.

If you could time travel, would you visit the past or the future? You could find your ancestors, descendants, or experience life when dinosaurs wandered your back garden. It sounds otherworldly, but scientists have looked into whether time travel is actually possible.
Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity changed understanding of space, time, mass and gravity. The key element of this theory is that time and space are linked together, and time doesn’t flow at a constant rate, meaning it speeds up or slows down, depending on where you are. For example, when you travel at high speeds, time decreases, which means, according to NASA, astronauts in space moving at high speeds age more slowly than those on Earth! So, if you wanted to travel to the future, you would need to move close to the speed of light. Then, while centuries pass on Earth, you’d experience a relatively short amount of time and could hypothetically (假设地) return home, where it would be the future!
Travelling backwards in time seems much more difficult. Theoretically, one way of going back is via a wormhole. That means, if space and time can be folded like paper, we could create a tunnel — a shortcut between points in time. The problem is that there is no evidence that wormholes exist. “It’s been shown mathematically that they can exist, but whether they exist physically is something else,” says Emma Osborne, an astrophysicist at the University of York. Also, theories show that wormholes would be so small that a person definitely couldn’t fit through one, and they would have such an intense gravitational field that they would collapse very quickly.
For now, it seems we’ll have to be content with science fiction and using telescopes to look back in time rather than travelling through it.
12. Why does the writer mention Einstein’s theory of relativity?
A. To explain how time travel might work.
B. To stress the importance of time travel.
C. To describe Einstein’s contributions to science.
D. Ty encourage us to work out the theory.
13. Why do astronauts age more slowly than those on earth?
A. Time flows at the same speed across the universe.
B. Moving faster slows the passage of time.
C. Speed and space are closely connected.
D. The speed of light prevents their aging.
14. Why does travelling backwards in time seem much more difficult?
A. Wormholes move faster than the speed of light.
B. Scientists have not studied time travel to the past.
C. Wormholes lack scientific evidence of existence.
D. The speed of light only allows forward movement in time.
15. What is the author’s attitude regarding the possibility of time travel?
A. Indifferent. B. Doubtful. C. Objective. D. Positive.
A 13. B 14. C 15. C
根据第二段中“Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity changed understanding of space, time, mass and gravity. So, if you wanted to travel to the future, you would need to move close to the speed of light.(爱因斯坦的相对论改变了人们对空间、时间、质量和重力的理解。 故选A。
根据第二段中“For example, when you travel at high speeds, time decreases, which means, according to NASA, astronauts in space moving at high speeds age more slowly than those on Earth!(例如,当你以高速旅行时,时间会减少,这意味着根据NASA的说法,在太空中以高速移动的宇航员比地球上的人衰老得更慢!)”
根据第三段中“Travelling backwards in time seems much more difficult. Theoretically, one way of going back is via a wormhole. That means, if space and time can be folded like paper, we could create a tunnel — a shortcut between points in time. The problem is that there is no evidence that wormholes exist.(时光倒流似乎要困难得多。理论上,回去的一种方式是通过虫洞。这意味着,如果空间和时间可以像纸一样折叠,我们就可以创造一条隧道——时间点之间的捷径。问题是,没有证据表明虫洞存在)”可知,时间倒流看起来更加困难的主要原因是缺乏关于虫洞存在的科学证据。尽管理论上可以通过虫洞回到过去,但目前还没有证据表明虫洞真的存在。故选C。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文,尤其根据第二段“Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity changed understanding of space, time, mass and gravity.(爱因斯坦的相对论改变了人们对空间、时间、质量和引力的认识)”;第三段“Travelling backwards in time seems much more difficult.(时光倒流似乎要困难得多)”以及最后一段“For now, it seems we’ll have to be content with science fiction and using telescopes to look back in time rather than travelling through it.(目前,我们似乎只能满足于科幻小说和使用望远镜回顾过去的时间,而不是穿越时空)”可知,作者在介绍时间旅行的可能性时,是基于现有的科学研究和理论进行了客观的描述,也就是说作者对于时间旅行的可能性保持一种客观立场。

The Spring Festival celebrations were in full swing at the crowded temple fair. Colorful lanterns hung above the streets, and the air was filled with the aroma of fried dumplings and sweet candied fruits. Among the joyful crowd was a little boy named Leo, a 7-year-old American visiting China with his parents. Clutching a rabbit-shaped lantern, he stared in awe at the dragon dancers twisting through the crowd.
Suddenly, a firecracker exploded nearby. Terrified, Leo dropped his lantern and rushed backward. When he looked up, his parents were nowhere to be seen. The sea of strangers in red coats and furry hats swallowed his tiny figure. Panic surged through him as he pushed through the crowd, tears streaming down his face.
Meanwhile, Leo’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carter, realized their son was missing. Madly, they searched the stalls selling paper cuttings and calligraphy brushes, shouting his name. But their voices were drowned out by the drums and laughter.
Just as despair began to set in, a young volunteer in a bright yellow vest noticed Leo crying by a sugar painting stand. The volunteer, a girl named Wenwen, knelt down in front of Leo. She noticed his tear-streaked face and the fear in his eyes. “Hey, little boy, are you lost?” she asked gently in English, trying to hide her own concern. Leo took a few steps back, his heart pounding. He had been warned by his parents about strangers, and although Wenwen seemed kind, he was still cautious. “My mommy and daddy...” he hesitated, looking around desperately.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Wenwen understood the situation immediately. She showed him her volunteer badge. And she said, “I work here to help people like you. Do you remember where you last saw them?” Leo hesitated for a moment but then slowly nodded. He pointed towards the direction of the dragon dance area. Wenwen took his small hand, and Leo tensed up at first. But Wenwen’s warm and reassuring grip made him feel a little more secure. Leo gradually relaxed and even managed to give her a small smile. They passed by stalls of traditional handicrafts and folk art, and Wenwen used her knowledge to explain the meanings behind each item, making Leo feel more connected to the place.
Wenwen kept talking to him to distract him from his fear. Finally, they arrived at the spot where Leo had lost sight of his parents. And there, Mr. and Mrs. Carter were waiting anxiously. When they saw Leo, they rushed towards him, their eyes filled with relief and gratitude. “Thank you so much, Wenwen,” Mrs. Carter said, hugging Leo tightly. Leo looked up at Wenwen, and this time, his eyes were full of trust and thankfulness. The experience had turned a scary situation into a memorable lesson about kindness and the power of human connection.

A They often annoy their neighbours.
A. records B. predicts C. delays D. confirms
11. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Let Children Have Fun B. Young Children Need More Free Time
C. Market Nature to Children D. David Bond: A Role Model for Children
D
Theoretically one way of going back is via a wormhole.
