Busbice was totally awake then. He decided to go out for a cup of coffee even though his hair and clothes were messy.
While he was heading to the shop, a boy on the street kept looking at Busbice. After a while, he walked up to Busbice slowly with his fist clenched (拳头紧握). Busbice had no idea what was going to happen and prepared for a conflict. At this time, the boy opened his fist to show a $1 bill instead.
Busbice was quite surprised and asked, “What?”
“If you’re homeless, here’s a dollar. I always want to help a homeless person, and today I finally get the chance,” answered 9-year-old Ellis. He had just got the dollar for good grades. And it was the only money he had.
Busbice was touched by the little boy’s kindness. Holding the dollar in his hand, he invited the boy to his own store and let him pick out whatever he wanted. Ellis was happy, but that was certainly not what he expected to get in return.

Can you imagine that a fish talks to you? As we know, fish often swim silently in the water. However, recent research by Aaron Rice, a scientist at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, has shown that fish can talk! Rice and his team found that many fish use acoustic (声学的) communication. It means they use sounds to communicate, just like we use our voices to talk with each other.
Rice’s research has shown that fish have their language and can communicate with each other in many different ways. This communication is important to fish because it helps them share important information and fish use different sounds for different reasons. For example, some fish use sounds to warn of danger—if a fish senses danger, it can warn other fish by making a special sound. And they can use a different sound to find other fish of their kind.
Rice’s team found that one kind of fish can make a loud sound by contracting muscles (收缩肌肉) around their swim bladders (鱼鳔). Another kind of fish that Rice studied can use their swim bladders to make a sound that is comparable to a human voice. Some scientists think that they can make that sound by rubbing (摩擦) their swim bladders together.
Now, thanks to Rice’s research, we understand more about fish and their amazing abilities. And here also comes the question: Is there something else—something more secret about fish communication that we don’t know about?
27. What did Aaron Rice find?
A. Fish can use their bladders to swim.
B. Fish can have simple talks with humans.
C. Fish can use sounds to communicate with each other.
D. Fish can use sounds to communicate with other animals.
28. Which paragraph talks about the importance of communication to fish?
A. Paragraph 1. B. Paragraph 2. C. Paragraph 3. D. Paragraph 4.
29. What does the underlined word “comparable” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Similar. B. Close. C. Important. D. Necessary.
30. What may be discussed in the following paragraphs?
A. Why we need to understand fish.
B. Aaron Rice’s research on other animals.
C. Eating more fish is good for our health.
D. Fish can use body language to express themselves.

Ⅶ. 任务型阅读:

In many countries, people are encouraged to buy electric cars. It is said that driving an electric car is good for the environment. But is that true? The University of Minnesota recently studied emissions (排放物) from different cars. The scientists found that sometimes, electric cars are more harmful than petrol (汽油) cars.
Surprising? Well, please pay attention to the word “sometimes”. Electric cars are supposed to be clean. The problem lies in the power that is used to charge them. If the power comes from wind energy or solar energy, electric cars will cause little pollution. However, if the power is produced from coal (煤), they will be very harmful. According to the study, emissions from these cars kill about 3,000 people a year. However, pollution caused by petrol cars only leads to 880 deaths a year.
In fact, sales people are not lying when they say electric cars are clean. However, they are right only when the power used to charge their cars is also clean.
So how clean electric cars are depends on what their electricity comes from. In France, more than half of the power comes from nuclear (核) stations. Electric cars there should be as clean as they are marketed to be. In many developing countries, however, electricity mainly comes from coal. India, for example, depends on coal for 61 percent of its power. Only two percent of electricity comes from nuclear energy. In countries like India, electric cars are not clean at all.
51. Why are people in many countries encouraged to buy electric cars?
Because they think driving an electric car ________.

Electric cars sometimes are ________ than petrol cars
53. In which country the electric cars are as clean as they are marketed according to the text?

With the development of modern science and technology, robots have entered our life, which brings great convenience to us. Household robots which look modern and fashionable are very popular with people, and they are now widely used in our daily life.
Household robots have many functions. Firstly, they can be used to cook and clean rooms. Secondly, they can help to take care of the elderly. Moreover, they can even make calls to deal with something dangerous.
However, the technology used in household robots is not developed well enough to solve all problems. And they are so expensive, too. Sometimes, they may catch viruses and cause safety problems.
In my opinion, robots should be widely used to improve people’s life. Scientists should make robots help us better by developing the technology.
