This summer, my parents took my brother and me on the coolest vacation ever! We visited three amazing places. Let me tell you all about our trips.
First, we flew to Egypt. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the pyramids. They’re much bigger in real life than in pictures! Our guide Ahmed told us stories about how they were built thousands of years ago. The best part was when we were on a small sailboat at sunset and ate delicious Egyptian food with a local family. They taught us how to make pita bread, which was really fun and tasty!
After Egypt, we went to Norway. This place was like something from a fairy tale! The train ride through the mountains was so beautiful, with waterfalls everywhere. At the Viking village, we put up dressing up clothes and tried throwing snow balls, which made us all laugh.
Our last stop was Indonesia, which was my favorite. We stayed on a wooden boat and went swimming every day. The fish were so colorful! One day we saw a big group of fish swimming right below us. They looked like underwater birds. At night, an artist taught us how to paint the sunset over the ocean.
▲ I learned that history can be exciting when you see it in person. I also learned how important it is to protect nature. But most of all, I learned that trips are the most fun when you’re with people you love.
If I could, I would go back to all these places tomorrow! Maybe next summer we'll visit Costa Rica to see the rainforest. Would you like to come and join us?
4. What is the writer’s favourite part of the trip in Egypt?
A. Heard the stories about the pyramids. B. Took a train ride though the mountains.
C. Enjoyed delicious food with local people. D. Stayed on a wooden boat and swam every day.
5. Which of the following can show the writer’s journey?
A. B. C. D.
6. What can be put in the ▲ in Paragraph 5?
A. Family is the key to a great travel. B. This trip taught me so many things.
C. Protecting nature is more important. D. I love the history and nature of these places.
7. Who might be interested in this passage?
A. Peter, who loves Indonesian food. B. David, who wants to learn Egyptian language.
C. Jack, who is interested in travelling. D. Tony, who likes staying at home with family.

On May 6, 2025, a 28-year-old Chinese snooker player named Zhao Xintong made sports history. He beat Welsh Star Mark Williams 18-12 in the World Snooker Championship final. This was China’s first world champion in snooker ever! Before this, British players had won for 98 years, but now that long record was broken.
Zhao’s path to success was full of stories. In 2023, he had to stop playing for 20 months because people said he did something wrong in a match. But in September 2024, he came back. He started from the early qualifying games (资格赛) and played nine matches. He won 111 frames (parts of a snooker game)! In one game, he even beat seven-time champion Ronnie O’Sullivan 17-7. Zhao played bravely, and his skills got much better. He could make long shots right 80% of the time and scored 18-century breaks, which is the same as Ding Junhui’s record in 2016!
The final against 50-year-old Williams was very exciting. Williams was the oldest player to reach the final. Zhao was ahead 17-8, but Williams tried hard and won four frames one after another. Then, in the 30th frame, Zhao stayed calm and made an 87-point break to win the game. “It’s like a dream,” Zhao said. When he got the trophy (奖杯), he held the Chinese flag high.
Ding Junhui, China’s snooker leader who once got second place in 2016, said, “He did what Chinese players have hoped for many years.” This win is like when Yao Ming made basketball popular in China.
Zhao’s story is about getting back up after falling. Even O’Sullivan said, “He’s like Federer in snooker—and we haven’t seen all he can do yet!” This win changes snooker history. It shows that if you never give up, you can turn problems into great success.
8. What did Zhao Xintong achieve in the World Snooker Championship?
A. Got the highest score. B. Became the youngest player.
C. Broke a 50-year record. D. Won China’s first world champion.

②Zhao Xintong was banned from playing for 20 months.
③Zhao Xintong started from the qualifying games.
④Zhao Xintong won the game 18-12 against Mark Williams.
A. 2→1→3→4 B. 2→3→1→4 C. 3→2→1→4 D. 4→2→3→1
10. What did Zhao Xintong do after winning the trophy?
A. He held up the Chinese flag. B. He celebrated with Ding Junhui.

One day, a young man was walking in the desert. The sun was shining brightly overhead, making the sand beneath his feet extremely hot. He had been walking for a long time and felt very thirsty. His throat was dry, and his body was begging for water.
Just then, as he was struggling to move forward, he suddenly found a spring of delicious and clear water. The water was welling out from the ground, forming a small pool and looking so inviting. It was so cool and sweet for a man who had expected it for such a long time that he quickly bent down and drank a lot in one go. The refreshing water seemed to bring him back to life. After quenching his thirst (解渴), he thought of his village and his kind teacher who had taught him in middle school. He decided to share this wonderful discovery with his teacher. So he took out his old leather (皮制的) bottle and filled it with the clear water carefully, imagining how happy his teacher would be when receiving this special gift.
After a four-day journey in the hot sun and through the endless sand dunes, he finally arrived at his village. He rushed to his teacher’s house and gave the water to the old man. The old man, with a warm smile, took a deep drink. He then smiled even more warmly and thanked his student sincerely for the sweet water. The young man, seeing his teacher’s happy expression, returned to his home with a light and happy heart.
Later, the teacher let another student taste the water. The student took a drink and spat it out at once, saying it was terrible. In fact, it had gone bad because of the old leather bottle which had influenced the taste of the water. The student was confused and asked his teacher, “Master, the water was bad and it was bitter. Why did you lie to him that you liked it?”
The teacher replied with a kind look in his eyes, “You only tasted the water while I tasted the gift. The water was full of love and kindness from my dear student. In my heart, nothing could be sweeter than this.”
This simple story shows us that sometimes, the value of a gift doesn’t lie in its physical quality but in the love and kindness it contains.
12. How was the young man when he was walking in the desert?
A. He was excited. B. He was feeling cold.
C. He was very thirsty. D. He was full of energy.
13. What did the teacher do when receiving the water?
A. He refused to drink it. B. He spat it out right away.
C. He returned to his home. D. He drank it and thanked the student.
14. What does the underlined word “spat” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. To make a short angry sound. B. To make a noise while burning.
C. To force food or drink out of mouth. D. To say something in an angry way.
15. What can we learn from the story?
A. We should always carry clean water when traveling.
B. Teachers should always be honest with their students.
C. We should pay attention to the quality of gifts.
D We should treasure the love and kindness expressed through gifts.

Dear Jim,
I’m glad to share with you what I do to celebrate Mother’s Day.
On Mother’s Day, I always get up early to cook breakfast for my mom. I usually make her favorite sunny-side-up eggs and a cup of warm milk. After she finishes the delicious meal, I give her a big hug and say “Thank you for everything you’ve done for me.” Then, I hand her beautiful carnations, which stand for love and gratitude. My mom always smiles brightly and tears of happiness well up in her eyes.
Celebrating Mother’s Day makes me feel warm and proud. It’s a perfect chance to show my love, and I believe small acts can bring big joy to those we care about.
Looking forward to hearing about how you celebrate festivals in the US!
Yours,
Zhang Hua
