18. Why does the speaker give the talk?
A. To support the idea of banning fireworks.
B. To announce a new regulation on fireworks.
C. To free animals from being hurt by fireworks.
19. What issue does the speaker stress about fireworks?
A They are too loud.
B. They cause pollution.
C. They can be dangerous.
20. What is the speaker’s attitude toward China’s drone display?
A. Uncertain. B. Supportive. C. Curious.
A 19. C 20. B
Many people in the UK enjoy fireworks, but I am part of those who think they should be banned (禁止). While it is nice for families to go and see professional firework shows, too many people are able to buy them privately. Children in towns and cities are regularly seen setting them off dangerously, even aiming them at animals or other people. This year, one woman has had enough. She made a request to ban the private sale of fireworks. She had managed to get one million people to sign her request, and was supported by an animal charity, due to how many animals were scared and frightened by fireworks. I understand letting fireworks off at New Year or other cultural events, but more and more people are using drone (无人驾驶飞机) shows instead. I read in the newspaper that China set the record for using over 10,000 drones rather than fireworks during a show. I think that is the future for these types of celebrations.

根据DROP-IN ADMISSIONS & PASSES部分中“Adult 19-59yrs”的收费标准,“1month $58.25”,“Each extra month $48.25”。
根据第二段“Recreation Surrey offers a wide range of exciting recreation, sports and leadership opportunities, unique spaces and events to the local people.(萨里娱乐中心为当地居民提供了各种各样令人兴奋的娱乐、体育和领导力机会,独特的空间和活动。)”
文章开篇提出“Looking for something new and exciting—a fun activity to try, a place to hang out or a chance to develop valuable skills and meet new friends?(在寻找一些新鲜刺激的东西 —— 一个可以尝试的有趣活动,一个可以闲逛的地方,或者一个发展有价值的技能并结识新朋友的机会?)”,接着介绍了萨里娱乐中心提供的各种娱乐、体育和领导力机会,以及入场券和通行证的收费标准、活动项目等信息,目的是吸引人们参与这些活动。
B
Alfred Hitchcock is easily one of the most influential film directors of all time. He was known throughout his life as a brilliant but bad-tempered man. He pioneered many techniques in the suspense (悬疑) and thriller genres (流派). He developed a style all of his own, which has defined entire genres of film and inspired other hugely successful films.
Hitchcock was born on 13 August 1899 in London, the son of a greengrocer. He often described his childhood as being very lonely and sheltered, a situation worsened by his obesity. He once said that he was sent by his father to the local police station with a note asking the officer to lock him away for 10 minutes as punishment for behaving badly. He also remarked that his mother would force him to stand for several hours as punishment. This idea of being harshly treated or wrongfully accused would later be reflected in Hitchcock’s films.
In 1920, Hitchcock entered the film industry. Hitchcock directed more than fifty feature films in a career within six decades. In Hitchcock’s movies, viewers are made to identify with the camera which moves in a way meant to imitate a person’s gaze and which forces viewers to engage in a form of prying (窥探). He carefully designed shots to influence the feelings of the audience and maximize anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used innovative film editing to demonstrate the point of view of the characters. Many of Hitchcock’s films have twist endings and thrilling plots.
Hitchcock compared himself as the operator of a switchback railway — an early form of rollercoaster — knowing how far to push his audience to thrill them but not going so far as to make it unpleasant. “I am, in some respects, the man who says, in constructing it, ‘how steep can we make the first dip (下落)?’, and ‘this will make them scream’,” he said. “If you make the dip too deep, the screams will continue as the whole car goes over the edge and destroys everyone. Therefore, you mustn’t go too far, because you do want them to get off the switchback railway giggling (咯咯地笑) with pleasure.”
24. How do Hitchcock’s childhood experiences influence his films?
A. His films advocate child punishment.
B. His films criticize some violent events.
C. His films involve frightening moments.
D. His films center around family business.
25. What can we infer from Hitchcock’s movies?
A. They make viewers immersed in vivid scenes.
B. They depend on cameras to imitate audience.
C. They have light-hearted plots for the most part.
D. They maximize the feelings of the characters.
26. Which of the following best describes Alfred Hitchcock?
A. Professional and creative.
B Considerate and cautious.
C. Self-disciplined but rude.
D. Brilliant but short-sighted.
27. Why does the author mention the rollercoaster in the last paragraph?
A. To prove Hitchcock’s love for amusement parks.
B. To illustrate Hitchcock’s approach to directing films.
C. To emphasize Hitchcock’s preference for action films.
D. To show the great challenge of operating a rollercoaster.
C 25. A 26. A 27. B
根据文章第二段“He once said that he was sent by his father to the local police station with a note asking the officer to lock him away for 10 minutes as punishment for behaving badly. He also remarked that his mother would force him to stand for several hours as punishment. This idea of being harshly treated or wrongfully accused would later be reflected in Hitchcock’s films.(他曾说,他的父亲曾让他带着一张纸条去当地警察局,纸条上请求警察将他关起来10分钟,以此作为他行为不端的惩罚。他还提到,他的母亲会强迫他罚站几个小时作为惩罚。这种遭受严厉对待或被冤枉的情节理念,后来在希区柯克的电影中得到了体现)”可知,这种童年被严厉对待或被冤枉的经历会在他的电影中有所体现。再根据第三段“In Hitchcock’s movies, viewers are made to identify with the camera which moves in a way meant to imitate a person’s gaze and which forces viewers to engage in a form of prying (窥探). He carefully designed shots to influence the feelings of the audience and maximize anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used innovative film editing to demonstrate the point of view of the characters. Many of Hitchcock’s films have twist endings and thrilling plots.(在希区柯克的电影中,观众会被引导与镜头产生共鸣,镜头的移动方式模仿了人的视线,并且迫使观众进行某种形式的窥探。他精心设计镜头,以影响观众的情绪,将焦虑、恐惧或共鸣感最大化,还运用了创新性的电影剪辑手法来展现角色的视角。希区柯克的许多电影都有着出人意料的结局和扣人心弦的情节)”可知,他的电影精心设计镜头来最大化观众的焦虑、恐惧或共鸣,且有惊悚的情节和意外的结局。由此推知,他童年的经历使得他的电影中会有令人恐惧的时刻。故选C。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“In Hitchcock’s movies, viewers are made to identify with the camera which moves in a way meant to imitate a person’s gaze and which forces viewers to engage in a form of prying (窥探). He carefully designed shots to influence the feelings of the audience and maximize anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used innovative film editing to demonstrate the point of view of the characters. 【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章“Alfred Hitchcock is easily one of the most influential film directors of all time. He was known throughout his life as a brilliant but bad-tempered man. He pioneered many techniques in the suspense (悬疑) and thriller genres (流派). He developed a style all of his own, which has defined entire genres of film and inspired other hugely successful films.(阿尔弗雷德・希区柯克无疑是有史以来最具影响力的电影导演之一。他一生都以才华横溢却脾气暴躁而闻名。他在悬疑和惊悚片类型中开创了许多拍摄技巧。他形成了一种完全属于自己的风格,这种风格定义了整个电影类型,并且启发了其他许多极为成功的电影)”可推知,希区柯克在电影领域,非常专业。再根据第三段“He carefully designed shots to influence the feelings of the audience and maximize anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used innovative film editing to demonstrate the point of view of the characters.(他精心设计镜头,以影响观众的情绪,将焦虑、恐惧或共鸣感最大化,还运用了创新性的电影剪辑手法来展现角色的视角)”可知,他精心设计镜头,运用创新性的电影剪辑手法来展现角色视角。 故选A。
根据文章最后一段“Hitchcock compared himself as the operator of a switchback railway — an early form of rollercoaster — knowing how far to push his audience to thrill them but not going so far as to make it unpleasant. “I am, in some respects, the man who says, in constructing it, ‘how steep can we make the first dip (下落)?’, and ‘this will make them scream’,” he said. “If you make the dip too deep, the screams will continue as the whole car goes over the edge and destroys everyone. Therefore, you mustn’t go too far, because you do want them to get off the switchback railway giggling (咯咯地笑) with pleasure.”(希区柯克把自己比作一种早期过山车形式——之字形铁路的操控者,他知道将观众推向何种程度能让他们感到刺激,但又不会做得太过火而让他们感到不适。

The Internet is a busy place, with billions of interactions, millions of content pieces, and large numbers of social media accounts and data about people. But in recent years, the so-called “dead Internet theory” has gained popularity. The theory suggests that most activity online is generated by bots (网上机器人) and AI agents, not by humans.
Thanks to generative AI, plenty of AI-generated models and influencers now often show up online. AI-generated content has changed the dynamics of the Internet, making it cheaper than ever to become a content creator. It makes sense, especially from a creator’s perspective. If you spend a few hours on a video for your social pages, you expect to get likes, follows, and subscriptions. However, if you can produce three videos within the same time with AI assistance, you’re increasing your chances of creating those things within the same period.
However, AI could lead to an Internet that feels dead due to a lack of obviously original content and articles that lack a human-touch — regardless of viewpoint, experience or humour. Fortunately, one glimmer of hope here is that some online giants have been taking action to reduce bot use, or so they say. Such measures are partly due to advertisers becoming more understanding regarding what makes up real human views versus bot-generated ones. So, no, the Internet is not dead. At least not yet.
Dead Internet theory may be hyperbole (夸张), but it raises two important points. First, the Internet is undoubtedly moving in this direction. Second, and more significantly, the theory causes a broader unease about the emotional and social dynamics online. Social media is now the primary news source for many users around the world. Therefore, there’s potential for AI agents to promote false information and interact with each other to boost engagement, which does leave room for concern.
So we do have to accept that humans share online spaces with bots and AI agents. As information spreads faster than ever across digital platforms, caution is advised: Never assume it’s actually a human you’re interacting with on the other side of your screen.
28. What can be learned about “dead Internet theory”?
A. AI agents and bots dominate online activities.
B. Content found online is frequently repeated.
C. Humans are losing interest in online interactions.
D. Social media collapse due to information overload.
29. Why do today’s creators turn to Al for content production?
A. To guarantee the originality of their content.
B. To make content creation completely effortless.
C. To enhance efficiency of achieving their goals.
D. To adapt to the changing dynamics of the Internet.
30. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. The role of social media in news distribution.
B. Digital platforms as the main source of news.
C. The analysis of the reasons for Internet death.
D. Social media’s influence and its potential issues.
31. What is the author’s advice on interacting online?
A. Decrease the application of artificial intelligence.
B. Protect personal privacy by limiting shared details.
C. Try to identify the reliability of real human beings.
D. Keep a watchful eye on the Internet interactions.
A 29. C 30. D 31. D
根据第一段的句子“But in recent years, the so-called “dead Internet theory” has gained popularity. The theory suggests that most activity online is generated by bots(网上机器人) and AI agents, not by humans.(但近年来,所谓的“互联网死亡理论”开始流行起来。该理论认为,大多数在线活动是由机器人和人工智能代理产生的,而不是人类。)”可知,“互联网死亡理论”认为AI代理和机器人主导了在线活动。故选A项。
根据第二段的句子“If you spend a few hours on a video for your social pages, you expect to get likes, follows, and subscriptions. However, if you can produce three videos within the same time with AI assistance, you’re increasing your chances of creating those things within the same period.(如果你在你的社交页面上花了几个小时制作视频,你希望得到喜欢、关注和订阅。然而,如果你能在人工智能的帮助下在同一时间内制作三个视频,你就增加了在同一时间内创造这些东西的机会。)”可知,创作者使用AI是为了提升效率以实现目标。故选C项。
【30题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第四段的内容“Dead Internet theory may be hyperbole, but it raises two important points. First, the Internet is undoubtedly moving in this direction. Second, and more significantly, the theory causes a broader unease about the emotional and social dynamics online. Social media is now the primary news source for many users around the world. Therefore, there’s potential for AI agents to promote false information and interact with each other to boost engagement, which does leave room for concern.(互联网死亡理论可能有些夸张,但它提出了两个重要的观点。
根据最后一段的句子“As information spreads faster than ever across digital platforms, caution is advised: Never assume it’s actually a human you’re interacting with on the other side of your screen.(随着信息在数字平台上的传播速度比以往任何时候都要快,我们要提醒大家:永远不要以为在屏幕另一边与你互动的实际上是一个人。)”

In a world where the news frequently warns of approaching fresh water scarcity, a group of forward-thinking researchers are looking to the skies to find a solution. Dr. Michael Tam, a distinguished professor at the University of Waterloo, along with his brilliant students, Yi Wang and Weinan Zhao, is diving deep into nature’s playbook.
“Water is efficiently captured by the web. The spider doesn’t need to go to the river to drink, as it traps moisture (水分) from the air,” Dr. Tam said. This revelation led to the exploration of how such natural phenomena could be replicated (复制) to address the global challenge of fresh water scarcity.
Furthermore, the Namib Desert beetle showcases another masterclass in nature’s engineering. Despite living in one of the dry environments on the Earth, these beetles manage to obtain water from thin air. A textured body surface that captures water droplets from fog when they face into the wind. The collected moisture then accumulates and drips right into their mouths.
Tapping into the lessons offered by these natural wonders, Dr. Tam and his team are working one particularly promising technology termed “atmospheric water harvesting.” To replicate the beetle’s water-gathering method, Tam’s team is developing a special surface that attracts small water droplets and quickly releases bigger ones.
But that’s not all. Dr Tam’s commitment to sustainability shines through in his choice of materials. Using zero-carbon materials, like plant-based substances, his team has developed an energy-efficient surface that captures atmospheric moisture.
The team’s innovations don’t stop there. Drawing inspiration from unique mushroom structures, they’ve designed smart structural systems for solar evaporation(蒸发). These systems effectively use solar energy, absorbing water and transforming it into fresh, collectible steam.
The potential impact of these fresh water generation systems is enormous. Not only are they cost-effective and energy-efficient, but they also represent the essence of environmental friendliness.
In a world increasingly bothered by water scarcity, the work of Dr. Tam and his team offers a ray of hope. By looking to nature’s wonderful solutions, we’re reminded that sometimes, the answers to our most pressing challenges have been right in front of us all along.

故选A。
根据第二段中蜘蛛从空气中捕获水分,第三段中纳米比亚沙漠甲虫从空气中获取水分,以及第四段“Tapping into the lessons offered by these natural wonders, Dr. Tam and his team are working one particularly promising technology termed ‘atmospheric water harvesting.’ To replicate the beetle’s water-gathering method, Tam’s team is developing a special surface that attracts small water droplets and quickly releases bigger ones. (借鉴这些自然奇观所提供的经验教训,谭博士和他的团队正在研究一种特别有前景的技术,称为‘大气集水’。为了复制甲虫的集水方法,谭博士的团队正在开发一种特殊的表面,它能吸引小水滴并迅速释放大水滴。)”可知,团队的创新工作是基于自然界是如何捕获水的。故选D。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“In a world increasingly bothered by water scarcity, the work of Dr. Tam and his team offers a ray of hope. By looking to nature’s wonderful solutions, we’re reminded that sometimes, the answers to our most pressing challenges have been right in front of us all along. (在一个日益受到水资源短缺困扰的世界里,谭博士和他的团队的工作带来了一线希望。通过借鉴自然界奇妙的解决方案,我们被提醒,有时,我们最紧迫挑战的答案一直就在我们眼前。)”可知,作者认为谭博士团队的工作给解决水资源短缺问题带来了希望,并且认可从自然界寻找解决方案的方式,所以作者对解决水资源短缺的方案是有信心的。故选D。

We tend to think that our success is limited because of lack of money, time, and energy, but this is not necessarily true. Lack of self-worth is often the biggest roadblock on our path to living a fulfilling life. Not all of us recognize our individual worth and the contributions we make to the world. ____36____
It might seem natural to measure your value by your income, physical appearance, job title, or social media popularity. ____37____ Because these aspects of your life can change at any moment, it’s more useful to consider inner values such as compassion, generosity, leadership, respect, and kindness. ____38____ We all have a self-talk that points out our shortcomings and failures. Whenever you begin criticizing yourself, stop and pause for a minute. Consider the virtue of what this voice is telling you. Is what you hear an objective fact? Is it useful and kind? If the answer is no, then this criticism is not worth paying attention to.
You alone are responsible for your self-worth. Regardless of other people’s words, thoughts, and opinions about you, you can still choose how you view yourself. ____39____ Don’t wait for people to confirm your value. Instead, do it with your internal dialogue and your actions.
We all mess up sometimes — it’s part of being human. ____40____ It’s easy to extend kindness and forgiveness to others, but you have to do yourself the same favor. There’s no point in worrying about your mistakes or upsetting over the not-so-good decisions from the past.
It was a presentation for my literature class, where every student had to present their analysis of a classic novel. My knees were shaking, and my throat felt drier with every passing second. As I looked around, 30 pairs of eyes were fixed on me, waiting for me to speak.
Though I was comfortable sharing my ideas in small group discussions, I felt nervous about speaking in front of the whole class. Fear flooded me, and my mind went blank. I could hear my heart beating in my ears, blocking out the words I wanted to say. I ended up messing up the presentation.
With another presentation coming soon, I refused to let fear hold me back again. I decided to sign up to perform at a campus comedy club event. I admired how confident stand-up comedians were, and I hoped I could act like them. When I spoke there later, though my jokes didn’t get much of a reaction, I surprisingly enjoyed being on stage and felt I could do better next time.
Inspired by this, I knew I needed advice from someone more experienced. That was when I noticed Sania, a talented performer whose humor and confidence made her the highlight of the evening. I gathered the courage to talk to her and introduced myself as a beginner speaker looking to improve. She listened closely and gave me great advice, “Attend more open microphone (麦克风) events and watch more comedy performances.”
Over the next few weeks, I attended more open microphone events and observed how Sania and other skilled comedians made their performances engaging with clever stories. Surprisingly, this helped me understand literature in a new way. I started to think of literature as something to be told. The characters I analyzed became lively figures in a story that I could explain in a more interesting way. Having prepared for some time, I took a chance and asked Sania if she would like to watch my novel presentation and offer advice. She gladly agreed and we met at a study hall one afternoon after school.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
I introduced the novel’s main characters to Sania, still a bit nervous.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When the time came for my next class presentation, I was quite different.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I introduced the novel’s main characters to Sania, still a bit nervous. Sania listened carefully, nodding now and then. When I finished, she smiled warmly. “You did well, but try to slow down and make your points clearer,” Sania suggested. “And if you feel nervous, take a deep breath. Focus on connecting with your audience, not just presenting to them. Think of them as friends who are curious to hear your story.” Her specific advice removed my anxiety and increased my confidence. It greatly improved my approach and made me feel well prepared.
When the time came for my next class presentation, I was quite different. As I spoke, I remembered Sania’s advice about engaging the audience with proper eye contact. I slowed down, focusing on connecting with my classmates as if they were my friends. Then I continued to express myself smoothly and confidently. This time, I received a round of loud applause, unlike the previous silence. I realized effective communication is just as important as the content itself. And thanks to Sania’s patience and support, I have experienced significant growth in the process.

B. Considerate and cautious.

32 Which has the closest meaning to the underlined word “revelation” in paragraph 2?
A. Challenge. B. Discovery. C. Curiosity. D. Definition.
33. Why can the Namib Desert beetles harvest water in deserts?
A. Because of their unique body structure.
B. Because of their skills of weaving webs.
C. Because of complex weather conditions.
D. Because of their organ for storing water.
34. On what basis do the team conduct their innovative work?
A. How materials are chosen. B. How nature repairs itself.
C. How solar energy is used. D. How nature captures water.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards the solutions to water scarcity?
A. Doubtful. B. Cautious. C. Dismissive. D. Confident.

Self-compassion is about believing that you are worthy of love regardless of what you do or fail to do.
A. Don’t let your inner critic rule your thoughts.
B. What matters is what you think about yourself.
C. All these do not determine your value and self-worth.
D. But when you do, you must forgive yourself and let it go.
E. Treat yourself with the love and care that others give you.
F. Pay attention to the perceptions about where you should be.
G. Nevertheless, you can build self-worth by practicing self-care.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
I introduced the novel’s main characters to Sania, still a bit nervous.
