In a quiet suburb, there lived a high school student named Liam. He was the son of two scientists. Naturally, everyone thought Liam would follow in his parents’ footsteps and pursue a career(职业) in science to become a scientist. However, Liam put his heart into something entirely different — he was passionate about literature and writing.
Each morning, Liam would wake up to hear his parents discuss the latest scientific discoveries and development over breakfast. One particular morning, Liam was upset, as the task of selecting his high school courses weighed heavily on him. He knew his parents would expect him to fill his schedule with science and math classes and engage in work related to science. At breakfast, Liam’s mother noticed his sadness and asked, "Is everything alright, Liam?" Liam hesitated(犹豫) but then replied, "I’m just thinking about my course selection for next semester."
His father cut in, "You should consider more science courses. They will prepare you for a great career in science, just like us."
Throughout the day, the thought of disappointing his parents troubled Liam. He loved and respected them but hesitated between their expectations and his own ambition. That afternoon, Liam met his best friend, Sam, at their favorite café. "Liam, you seem worried. What’s on your mind?" Sam asked. Liam admitted, "I’m struggling with course selection. My parents want me to focus on science, but I really want to take more literature and writing classes." Sam listened carefully and comforted him, "Liam, it’s important to follow your passion. Maybe you should talk to your parents about what you really want. They might be more understanding than you think."

Robert and Henry were friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day, Robert and Henry were going home from school. On turning a corner, Robert cried out,“A fight! Let’s go and see!”
“No,” said Henry,“let’s go home quietly and not meddle with(干涉) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also, our parents are expecting to have dinner with us and I don’t want them to worry about me.”
“You are a coward(懦夫), and afraid to go,” said Robert, and he ran off. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon he went to school as usual.
But Robert had told other boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn’t want to play with him.
Henry was sad but he wasn’t angry with Robert for his rude behaviour, because he knew that they misunderstood him, and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys’ laughter and continued to go to school and study as usual. However, Robert didn’t invite Henry to go home together anymore.Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn’t go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.
A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled and cried for help, but he failed. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, and did nothing to help him.

During this past year I’ve had three instances of car trouble. Each time, when these things happened, I was disgusted with the way people didn’t bother to help. The people at the gas stations where I asked for a gas can told me they couldn’t lend it out “for safety reasons,” but that I could buy a coverless can for $15.
But you know who came to my rescue all three times? Immigrants. Mexican immigrants. None of them spoke any English.
One of those guys stopped to help me with the blowout even though he had his whole family of four. I was on the side of the road for three hours with my, big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said, “NEED A JACK (千斤顶),” and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was about to give up, a truck pulled over, and the guy jumped off.
He understood the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English. He conveyed through her that he had a jack. Then we were in business.
I started taking the wheel off, and, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron. No worries: he ran to the truck and handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a flash to buy a new one. She was back in 15minutes. We finished the job with a little sweat, and I was a very happy man.
The two of us were filthy and sweaty. His wife produced a water jug for us to wash our hands. I tried to put a $20 in the man’s hand, but he wouldn’t take it, so instead I went up to the truck and gave it to his wife as quietly as I could. I asked the little girl where they lived, thinking maybe I’d send them a gift for being so awesome. She said they lived in Mexico. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could pick cherries for the next few weeks. Then they were going to pick peaches, then go back home. After I said my goodbyes and started walking back to the Jeep, the girl called out and asked if I’d had lunch.

When I told her no, she ran up and handed me a tamale(墨西哥粽).

Veronica sat in the chair, watching her daughter, Jane, tug (拽) at the old sewing machine (缝纫机). The machine had been in their family for years—first her mother’s, then hers. Veronica had always taken care of it, just like her mother had. Though it wasn’t in perfect condition, it still worked if used carefully. Veronica remembered the long hours her mother had spent sewing on it when she was growing up, especially during hard times. She also remembered how her mother had taught her to use the machine, her scolding (训斥) sharp and unforgiving, not allowing any mistakes.
Now Jane was trying to use it, but she was impatiently pulling at the thread (线), causing the needle to get stuck (卡住) with every attempt. The sound of the machine’s protests — sharp, squeaky, and out of tune—made Veronica uneasy.
“Stop pulling so bard,” Veronica said, her voice calm at first, “You’ll break it.” Jane glanced up, a little annoyed. “It’s already broken, Mom.”
Veronica felt a knot tighten in her chest. She knew Jane didn’t understand. To her, it was just an old machine. But to Veronica, it was more than that. It was a link to her past.
“Stop pulling at it like that,” Veronica said, her voice tense. “It’s not a toy, Jane. You can’t just force it.”
Jane looked up, eyes defiant (反抗的). “It’s a piece of junk, Mom. I’m trying to fix it, but it’s useless.”
Veronica stood up and grabbed Jane’s hand, forcing her to stop tugging at the machine. Her grip was tight, almost painful, and she shoved (推开) Jane’s hand away. “It’s not junk! You need to be careful with it!” Jane pulled her hand back, her eyes welling up with tears. She didn’t say anything, but the hurt was clear on her face. Veronica watched her for a few seconds, her heart still pounding in her chest. But at that very moment something changed inside her. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out at firs — only a breathless, frustrated sigh. A sudden, familiar feeling washed over her, an uncomfortable weight in her chest.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为100左右;
Her memories of sitting with her mother at the sewing machine flooded back.

Dear Jim,
I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your life and study due to excessive use of the Internet. Here are some suggestions.
Firstly, try to limit your time spent on the Internet. You can set a specific time each day for using the Internet. This will help you regain control of your time and focus on more important things. Secondly, you can try to find other activities to do, such as reading, exercising or spending time with friends, which will help you relax and reduce your reliance on the Internet. Finally, try to use the Internet more productively. You can use it to learn new skills or do research. This will make your time on the Internet more meaningful.
Remember, it takes time and effort to change a habit, but it’s worth it. I wish you all the best in your efforts to overcome this problem.
Yours,

Time
one day, a few days later
Place
at a corner, in a river
Character
Robert, Henry, the boys
Reason
Robert misunderstood Henry, thinkingthat Henry was a coward.
Conflict
Robert was drowning in the river. He cried for help but the boys got out of the water and did nothing to help him.
Paragraph 1:
It seemed as if Robert would be dying.
①根据已给出的续写首句“It seemed as if Robert would be dying.”
谁救的Robert?(根据续写第二段首句“Thus, Robert’s life was saved.”
Paragraph 2:
Thus, Robert’s
life was saved.
根据续写第二段首句“Thus, Robert’s life was saved.”
One possible version:
It seemed as if Robert would be dying. Just at that moment, Henry happened to be passing by. Hearing the screams, Henry ran to the riverside, threw off his clothes and jumped into the water without hesitation. He grabbed Robert just before he was sinking. In spite of much danger and with great effort, he brought Robert to the riverbank.
Thus, Robert’s life was saved. Robert and his new friends were ashamed of having called Henry a coward. They realized that Henry had true courage. They said sorry to Henry for their rude behaviour and asked for his forgiveness. Henry forgave them happily. He and Robert were friends again and they went home together as usual. From this, Robert learned what true courage was—never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do evil.

When I told her no, she ran up and handed me a tamale. She explained to me that it was typical Mexico food and eagerly asked me to have a try. Meanwhile, she invited me to where they were going to have lunch together, for their truck happened to have some food and some things for a picnic. Therefore we ate together in a vacant lot by the side of the road. We shared interesting stories while enjoying the tasty food. After lunch, I was about to say goodbye when I again pulled out $20 intended for the favor.
He saw the $20 in my hand and just started shaking his head. He insisted on not accepting my money because he didn’t want to convert good intentions into numbers. Also, they stuffed a paper bag full of fresh fruits into my hand and then left. I swung back to my jeep, deeply touched and lost in thought. There was indifference as well as warmth and kindness among strangers. It was the experience that gave me new faith in people’s good virtue. And I decided to pay forward the kindness.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为100左右;
Her memories of sitting with her mother at the sewing machine flooded back.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Possible Version
Her memories of sitting with her mother at the sewing machine flooded back. She remembered the warm glow of the lamp, the soft click of the pedals, and the gentle hum of the machine as they worked together, creating beautiful things. Veronica took a deep breath, her frustration melting away. She gently took Jane’s hand and placed it on her own lap. “Let’s do this together,” she said softly. Jane looked up at her, her eyes wide with surprise and a hint of relief. Together, they fixed the sewing machine, and in that moment, Veronica knew that the bond between them was unbreakable, just like the old sewing machine they cherished.
Her memories of sitting with her mother at the sewing machine flooded back. She remembered how her mother’s hands moved skillfully on the machine, creating beautiful clothes. Her mother had always been patient, teaching her every little detail. Veronica’s eyes filled with tears as she realized she had been too hard on Jane. She took a deep breath and said softly, “Jane, this sewing machine is not just a thing. It has my mother’s love and our family’s stories in it.” Jane looked at her mother, seeing the deep emotion in her eyes. She nodded slowly, beginning to understand. “I’m sorry, Mom,” she said. Veronica smiled and hugged her daughter. The old sewing machine, once a source of conflict, now became a bridge for their understanding.
