I have been a reporter for the school newspaper, the Dagligtale, since my first day here at the University of Alberta. I probably won’t work as a journalist after my graduation, but this doesn’t mean my experience in student journalism has been useless. In fact, I have picked up many important skills through this job.
I still remember my first news story. It was about the victory of the school baseball team. I attended the celebration and was told to do some interviews. I was frightened. As a student journalist, I always know that I have a lot to learn. I’m never afraid of asking people for advice. I have learned how not to take negative advice personally and how to use it to make improvements to myself.
Journalism is a stressful field to work in, but I’m thankful that I have had the opportunity to try my hand at it. It has taught me to be a better storyteller, student and citizen. If you are ever given a chance to write for a campus newspaper or magazine, take it and learn everything you can!

How to manage time wisely?
Dr. Green

Many students have problems with time management. They always feel hard to complete all the tasks well in limited time. The key to solving this problem is not to do more, but to do what truly matters. Start by listing your priorities (优先级) and cutting out unnecessary tasks. They can help you save a lot of time you can use to relax.

Emma
a top student from Beijing
I use the “Pomodoro Technique”: study 25 minutes, rest 5 minutes. This keeps me focused. After a long period of working or studying, our brains need to have a rest for a while. Therefore, we need to schedule rest time. Also, I often say “no” to those activities that are not useful for helping me achieve my goals.

Effective (有效的) time management requires clear plans. Try breaking tasks into smaller steps and set deadlines for each. For example, if you plan to finish a novel with 300 pages in one month. You can make yourself finish 10 pages every day in 30 minutes before you go to bed. It’s easier to succeed in finishing the task by doing this. Besides, use apps like calendar or to-do lists. 【答案】例文
How to Manage Your Weight Wisely
2025 is the Weight Management Year, and everyone should take action to improve their health. Weight management matters because it helps us avoid illnesses like diabetes and feel more confident. Here are my suggestions:
First, keep a balanced diet. Eat more vegetables, fruits, and high-fiber foods instead of snacks full of sugar and fat. Drinking enough water also helps control calories. Second, exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. Activities like jogging or playing basketball can burn energy and build muscles. Third, follow a regular schedule. Going to bed before 11 p.m. and waking up early keeps your metabolism working well. Avoid staying up late, as it may lead to overeating. Lastly, stay positive. If you feel stressed, talk to friends or write a diary to relax. A cheerful mind is the key to both physical and emotional health.
Let’s act together! Share workout videos on social media to inspire peers. Small steps lead to big changes!
