Last week, our school had a special class about Guangxiu, a traditional Chinese skill. “Today, we are going to learn how to stitch (缝制) lychee, a fruit pattern that symbolizes good luck.” After the teacher’s example, I thought it would be a(n) 1 and quick job—just stitching the lychee patterns on the cloth.
I began to stitch 2 as soon as the teacher finished the introduction and I couldn’t wait to see my work. However, the lychee that I finally made was different from what I expected. It was so messy and ugly! Looking at others’ beautiful stitches, I felt 3 .

Take it step by step.” Her words made me think. I realized I had treated it as a task, not an art. Maybe I had to do it by heart.
I took a deep breath and 6 . “No hurry. Be patient.” I told myself. This time, I smoothed the cloth gently, worked on the pattern 7 , and followed the teacher’s instructions step by step. It took time, but I 8 to rush.
The final work wasn’t perfect, but much better than my first try. Comparing them, I saw a change: the same needle and thread (针线) showed a 9 me-someone who could stay calm, patient, and careful.
This experience has taught me that Guangxiu, like life, needs more than just skills. Now that lychee hangs in my room, reminding me that every thread shapes not just cloth, but the 10 who holds the needle. I’ll remember this lesson in all my future challenges, adding patience into everything I do.

Have you heard that many of the migrating (迁徙) animals are in danger? A report has found that one fifth of the world’s migrating animals are at risk of dying out. They often move from place to place because they might be looking for food, better weather, or a friend. This includes big animals like whales and elephants, and small animals like turtles, fish, and birds.
The report was by the United Nations (UN), a group of 193 countries that work together on problems facing people. The recent report looked at the health of these protected animals and found that the number of them is getting smaller, and some of them are at risk of disappearing forever.
Migrating animals face many dangers, because they often move from one place to another. For example, more than 1.5 million wildebeest (a wild African animal) travel through Tanzania and Kenya to follow the rain each year, crossing rivers where hungry Nile crocodiles (鳄鱼) live. However, the biggest danger to migrating animals is people, such as hunting, fishing and building things that destroy their homes.
It’s hard to protect migrating animals because of how far they travel. Monarch butterflies travel 3,000 miles every autumn from north-eastern North America to Mexico. But the report suggests that countries create safe areas of land to help animals. It also suggests that governments do more to fix climate (气候) change, as well as noise, light and plastic pollution.
The report showed projects that have helped migrating animals. In the South Atlantic Ocean, rules that stopped the hunting of humpback whales (座头鲸) helped make their numbers go from 450 in the 1950s to more than 25,000 today. Inger Andersen from the UN Environment Programme said, “There is hope. Humans can still do even more to protect migrating animals.”
18.What percent of migrating animals in the world are in danger?
A.10%. B.20%. C.50%. D.75%.
19.What is the biggest danger to migrating animals according to the text?
A.Moving from place to place. B.Natural enemies.
C.Human activities. D.Climate change.
20.How does the writer describe the advantages of the project in the last paragraph?
A.By telling stories. B.By asking questions.
C.By explaining reasons. D.By listing numbers.
21.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To introduce some kinds of migrating animals.
B.To call on people to protect migrating animals.
C.To show the importance of migrating animals.
D.To ask for advice on protecting migrating animals.
【答案】18.B 19.C 20.D 21.B

Reading and writing Chinese characters is often considered the most ambitious challenge that language learners face in order to achieve fluency (流利). Indeed, the process which has shaped this character system over thousands of years is both complex (复杂的) and long.
Although they may appear bewildering at first, Chinese characters are actually made up of different building blocks (块) that form a straight and reasonable structure. Once you catch a basic understanding of the structure of Chinese characters, you will be reading and writing your way across the kingdom of Chinese characters in no time. Read the following and continue along your journey to learn Chinese characters.
Unlike the Roman alphabet (字母), Chinese characters are used to show meaning rather than sound. In fact, most characters were first used as visual (视觉的) descriptions of physical elements like trees, houses or humans. Their earliest forms, simplified versions of these symbols, known as character radicals (偏旁), serve as the foundation for modern written Mandarin (普通话).
Making up about 80% of the Chinese characters, radicals—in addition to Chinese pinyin—are an important starting point for anyone who wants to read or write well in Mandarin. Jump to the list of the 40 most used Chinese radicals and continue learning Chinese characters.
When two or more radicals are connected, they work together to create a single character; the radical on the left most shows the character’s type or meaning, while the radical on the right might show its pronunciation. Most of the written language is made up of character compounds, in which several characters are connected to make one word.
An important rule to note is that characters are written according to a standardized stroke order (笔画顺序), which typically moves from left to right, top to bottom and ▲ . Although Chinese characters may seem difficult at first, patterns will quickly appear once you develop a basic foundation. So, review your radicals, know about the most commonly used Chinese characters, and watch as your Mandarin skills grow quickly!
22.What does the underlined word “bewildering” mean in Chinese?
A.令人快乐的 B.令人害怕的 C.令人困惑的 D.令人感动的
23.What does the fifth paragraph talk about?
A.The role of Chinese characters. B.The popularity of Chinese characters.
C.The method of making a Chinese character. D.The difficulty of using Chinese characters.
24.Which of the following can be put into “ ▲ ” in the last paragraph?
A.outside to inside B.end to beginning C.inside to outside D.beginning to end
25.The right structure of the passage is _______. (P=Paragraph)

A.Moving from place to place. B.Natural enemies.
